Me when I see the title of Meg's new video: she is an icon, she's a legend, and she is the moment.

The thing about translators is that we're usually trained to know a little bit of everything. In fact, literary translation doesn't pay that well, and most of us work in a couple of different fields. So the same person who translated a highly acclaimed literary book may also be translating journalistic or scientific writing. We adapt to the text and context we're working with, and keep (to the best of our abilities) the style of the original

A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking was my favorite read of last year! 💖
I have realized that out of different genres T. Kingfisher writes, her middle grade/YA fantasy works the best for me 😊

part of what makes pride and prejudice so brilliant is that it does have a third act conflict (lydia running off with wickham) but it's external and it tests both the mcs to see if they really have grown and really are compatible and really do want each other and those icons PASS and more romance authors (even ali my queen) need to study at jane's knee a bit

I am a translator and it was so fun to hear you talk so nicely about translation. It is usually an invisible art, as you do not want the reader to be pulled out of the story because of translating choices you made. Thank you for the acknowledgments!

I was NOT a Ali Hazelwood fan at all for a long time (sorry Megan) but I decided to read Love Theoretically as my final try and when I tell you that book single-handedly turned the tides for me. Love on the Brain is on my re read list for the year, like I don’t know what happened but Ali Hazelwood does in fact get it

Love this video, as usual! An interesting stat for your monthly wrap ups might be which video resulted in the best average rating - it could help you see which methods are getting you closer to the 3.8!

I’ve read sword heart and love that. That’ my fave t. Kingfisher so far but I’ve only read from the fantasy side.
I read the clocktaur war books and paladins grace books too since they all lead into each other and I enjoyed them

"25 is not terrible!" I just played Contexto for the first time today and it took me about 125 guesses. 😆 I did it with my kids, though, so a lot of the guesses were just them throwing out silly words completely out of context. Still, I couldn't IMAGINE doing this in only 25?! Well done you! And thanks for introducing me to these new games!

I think this is the first time EVER that I can say this for ANY BookTube video, I have read all these! I think they were all great picks and your ratings are pretty spot on with what I gave.

Idk if your fanfic history is the reason Ali Hazelwood hits for you, because I used to read (and write!) a ton of Hanson fanfic back around the time you were born (GOD I’M OLD) and she doesn’t hit for me.
So sad the Pride and Prejudice video flopped! I for one am stoked for that series, because I love a good retelling and I’m fascinated to see some analysis of how they match up to the originals!

A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking was also a four for me but I loved that it felt like it was actually written for fourteen year olds, and talked about how the adults failed them and that's the only reason they were having to save the world themself. My favorites from her are The Saint of Steel series, they are fantasy romance but have a very interesting horror element.

I’d recommend that your next T Kingfisher should be Hollow Places. It’s very creepy and full of vibes. But for me, my favourites have been Minor Mage (similar to the one you read for this video) and the quartet of fantasy romances.
