I just read the Travelling Cat Chronicles because of this video and I haven’t cried that hard in months. You’re literally SICK and twisted for bringing this into my life… 5⭐️ 😔
Favorite books with cats: - Tomb Sweeping (while only 1 of the short stories heavily features cats, I think the entire collection is great) - Starter Villain (cats play a major role, and have the ability to 'talk') - A Love Catastrophe (the heroine owns a cat rescue/pet sitting instagram business, the hero 'hates' cats)
As a younger member of generation x I can say with certainty that people who are a good 5 to 7 years older than me know how to use computers we are the Nintendo generation back in the mid-90s plenty of us gen xers had many sleepless nights messing around on their computers
I had the same opinion of The Goodbye Cat. If you do another edition of this, I recommend Starter Villain (it has a very dashing cat on the cover). And I haven’t read it but I’m looking forward to We’ll Prescribe You a Cat (coming out this year).
oh wow i just read the description for The Travelling Cat Chronicles and just reading that small bit - i teared up at the end - now i want to read it but am terrified that i will be sooo sad bc stories about animals just hit different 🤍
Two manga recommendations: Cat + Gamer and Yakuza & Stray Kitten (not a five star series, but fun) Also check out the Gobbelino London series by Kim M. Watt. Has a talking cat who is partners with a private detective who investigates supernatural crimes. Very amusing! 🐈
So like back in the day you could tell a lot about the vibes of romance novels by what random things were on the cover like a golden retriever meant it would be more wholesome. I wonder if the cat is meant to be a cozy vibe signal and not a representation of content
I also really loved The Travelling Cat Chronicles! And I picked that one up because I read and loved Love Saves the Day by Gwen Cooper, also told from the cats point of view and features an older female main character! I hope you pick this one up someday in another attempt at reading books about cats and with cats on the cover ❤
The Thirteen Black Cats of Edith Penn by Sean McDonough is a good time for those who love campy, b-movie type horror books. It's about a witch who dies, and her 13 black cats begin offing people in this community that wronged her. It's a bit gory, a bit flippant, and peak cat content. The dedication is made out to all the good cats.
I liked the cat in "the other side of the sky" and "a castle in the clouds" (Kerstin Gier). The book Charley's Web by Joy Fielding is called “Die Katze” in German, but there's no cat there either.
If you are open to the manga format: A Man and His Cat The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again These two are my favorite, relatable cat reads. A man and his cat has more of a through-plot but both cover slice of life cat shenanigans
whenever my dad cooks a roast chicken (not super often but like 4/5 times a year) he feeds the cats tiny bits of chicken because otherwise they yell (they are siamese) also my cat recommendation is the Cat who Walked a Thousand Miles by Kij Johnson; it’s a short story available online, or in their collection “at the mouth of the river of bees” and it is superbly quaint
Sounds like you should just give in and read some Warrior Cats books! I’m currently reading Mrs Perivale & The Blue Fire Crystal which has a bevy of cat characters. It’s kinda like a grown up Alice In Wonderland vibe, though far from a literary masterpiece, just a simple romp. You might also enjoy Cat Massage Therapy. No thoughts. Just precious.
I have several cat books on my TBR: I Am a Cat by Natsume Söseki, Homer's Odyssey by Gwen Cooper, A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass (might be just a cat on the cover situation), The Cat Who Saved Books by Sösuke Natsukawa, The Cats of Roxville Station by Jean Craighead George, The Familiars by Adam Epstein, Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams, The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips by Michael Morpurgo, The Dalai Lama's Cat by David Michie, The Book Cat by Polly Faber, If Cats Disappeared from the World by Genki Kawamura, All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot, How Do You Live? (might just be cat on the cover) by Genzaburo Yoshino, A Castle in the Clouds by Kerstin Gier, What You Are Looking For Is in the Library by Michiko Aoyama, Finders-Seekers (Ghatti's Tale, #1) by Gayle Greeno, Kittentits by Holly Wilson, aaaand The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (Novel) #1) by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou. Gah, I need to get my TBR whittle down. lol
I'm reading On Earth As It Is On Television, and while it has a cat on the cover, the cat is not terribly involved in the story, but I think it will be later. I'm having a good time with it and I think I would definitely recommend others giving it a try. It is Sci Fi, but it's not complicated science, just focused on regular people.
Oof I don't love the chocolate part, but I know everyone has their own opinion on things like that. And I actually hated Starter Villain, unfortunately. 😅 It seems though that a lot of people in the comments have liked it and it has overall good ratings!
I recently bought "The Traveling Cat Chronicles" for my sister and niece based on your review of it, but seeing you sob here was heart-wrenching...that speaks well of the quality of the book but it was also very painful to see you so distraught by it. Back to the video...
My favourite books with cats are the children's books Magic Kitten and the manga A Man and his Cat, however I think the official English translation for the manga is pretty cringe, loses the way cats "speak", which the fan translation is incredible at, and makes it lose a lot of the emotions, so (I know it's unethical but) I'd recommend reading a fan translation (I found it on manganato as Ojisama To Neko).
I find some of the Japanese translations don't work for me, travelling cat chronicles - amazing, the guest cat - meh if cat's disappeared from the world - meh she and her cat - good I've yet to read the cat who saved books.
I was in a bookshop and accidentally ended up chatting to the author of A Spoonful of Murder and felt bad for him being all by himself so bought his book... He signed it to me and everything... But I think the worst mystery I've read Edit: Oh and there is the modt stupid description of a zumba class in it, which really mafe my blood boil, as a lafy who goes to zumba with Ann in her 80s... Oof this made me relive my fury
Omg the narrator who you said you didn't like is also my least favorite narrator lol I listened to The Lying Game by Ruth Ware and could barely get through it bc I hated her narration so much
it sounds like all these books CATfished you
“why do you laugh” “it’s because im funny” olivia wilde nod exactly 😌👏🏽
Having read three of these books, as soon as you listed the video TBR I wanted to scream 'NO! Don't do it to yourself!' 🤣

This is such a fun idea! There are so many cat Japanese translated books specifically😆
The Cat Lady by Dawn O’Porter is BRILLIANT
As a younger member of generation x I can say with certainty that people who are a good 5 to 7 years older than me know how to use computers we are the Nintendo generation back in the mid-90s plenty of us gen xers had many sleepless nights messing around on their computers
My mother is 60 and SHE KNOWS EMOJIS OKAY

It’s so good, it’s extremely worth it
@@emmawheeler4624 okayyy i am very tempted - let's go cry i guess🥲😅

Regardless of the star ratings, I enjoyed this a lot and your comments 🤣 better luck next time 🙏
The Broken Spine by Dorothy St James is a fun murder mystery that does actually have a cat in it as of rn there’s three books in the series
My mom really likes the mystery series "The Cat Who..." by Lilian Jackson Braun.
Have you read The Last House on Needless Street? Much darker than your usual reading but I think you’d enjoy the cat’s perspective in that book
I believe she had started it once possibly? But said she doesn't like that plot twist after learning it happens in that book.
Starter Villain is my favourite book that has a cat on the cover. But, I’m also a Wil Wheaton fan so that gives it extra stars for me. 🐈
I also really loved The Travelling Cat Chronicles! I'm a dog person but She & Her Cat is a really sweet book, also there's a talking cat in Coraline who is one of the main characters!

The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again

Well, a ton of cat books I know not to read now! Thank you for your sacrifice 😂
whenever my dad cooks a roast chicken (not super often but like 4/5 times a year) he feeds the cats tiny bits of chicken because otherwise they yell (they are siamese) also my cat recommendation is the Cat who Walked a Thousand Miles by Kij Johnson; it’s a short story available online, or in their collection “at the mouth of the river of bees” and it is superbly quaint
Space Opera by Catherynne M Valente features a cat 😂 IMO one of the best parts of the book.
you should read starter villian cover has a cat in a suit. it has cat spys
You should do a revanche episode with the recommendations from the comments😊
🐈 a street cat named Bob
🐈 I just read Kamogawa Food Detectives and felt the same. Lackluster 🤷🏼♀️
I have a lot of cozy books with cats on the cover and I would be frustrated to know and if they didn't actually involve cats
very impressed that you managed to successfully get a thumbnail with all of your cats 🐈 ❤
The lack of cats in Days at the Morisaki Bookshop was so disappointing to me! I loved the first half but the second half lost me.
Sounds like you should just give in and read some Warrior Cats books! I’m currently reading Mrs Perivale & The Blue Fire Crystal which has a bevy of cat characters. The cats wanted you to read them on their terms. 😂😅🐈
🐱 having a cat on the cover and no cats in the book is a crime!
At your cottage, I think I know which side of the bed is yours -- all the books and the tissue. LOL.
what a cute thumbnail!!!
My favorite cat books have all been manga...I think the visual medium is much better at capturing their body language and facial expressions!
🐈
Now I am wondering if “What You Are Looking For Is in the Library“ has a cat 🤣.
Great video idea! It would have been great if you owned pet sematary by Stephen king
Oof I don't love the chocolate part, but I know everyone has their own opinion on things like that. And I actually hated Starter Villain, unfortunately. 😅 It seems though that a lot of people in the comments have liked it and it has overall good ratings!
As someone who IS 60, I can promise that all my freinds and I know what an emoji is. LOL. As a matter of fact, my kids say I use them too much 😂
I recently bought "The Traveling Cat Chronicles" for my sister and niece based on your review of it, but seeing you sob here was heart-wrenching...that speaks well of the quality of the book but it was also very painful to see you so distraught by it. Back to the video...
i have never seen a death stare as strong as rora’s in the thumbnail 🤣🤣

I find some of the Japanese translations don't work for me,
travelling cat chronicles - amazing,
the guest cat - meh
if cat's disappeared from the world - meh
she and her cat - good
