big tip on making a roof look really good on a higher house. Offset your roof tiles by half a block, (so you need an ridge for an even number of tiles) so that half a roof sticks over the edge of the building. Instantly makes it look better
Excellent video man. I love this game but the roofing was frustrating me. Cheers for putting time and effort into recording, editing, all that. Thank you!
So Another roofing pattern i tend to use is to use Two Inveted corner pieces, Placed so that their outer sides are touching a straight away piece, or a standard corner piece together to make a roofed opening to which smoke is capable of getting out.
I just got done building a 16x16 storage shed and really could have used this video beforehand. Probably for the best though. I fought gravity until I figured out how to support the roof without a complete rework, and as a result I now have the best shed in the land.
I tried making a round house, where i turn the angle once every 3 blocks. The roof was a pain to make properly, especially the higher i went, trying not to have little gaps while also not making the clipping look bad. Was a challenge for sure but it worked out! Also the size the house gets matches perfectly with the heat range of a bonfire in the middle :)
@@quicksandriggs Definitely was a pain, but was quite proud when i finished it! I think making it 3 blocks at every angle was both a blessing and a curse, blessing because i felt like i had more to work with and it was easier to make it look pretty clipping-wise, but i also had to make two sets of pillars to support the roof because it got so massive lol
As an architect, i had to try to develop a "flat" roof design, like you see on more modern buildings. I found that if you hybridize a flat roof and what resembles a waffle slab(real thing!), you can make the appearance of a flat roof by only using interior corner roof pieces in a square pattern. Tip for second row of circular roofs... Instead of going around one at a time, build the cardinal points to form a cross and then fill in the gaps off them. Makes it both faster & easier.
@@quicksandriggs I've got one that a sort of combination, gambrel / mansard with 3 tiles of clerestory in the center for smoke. The way smoke works in this game drives a lot of creativity, which I think is great.

Anytime a game dedicates areas, times or servers to pvp, you can guarantee its just going to pull out all the griefers.
I keep trying to make one large, open floor plan model WITHOUT support poles. I can't seem to make it work for anything of a good amount of size...tips?
1. Make sure the bottom levels of the walls are touching ground all the way around the building. 2. Lace the walls with wood iron poles so the roof has as much foundation as possible. (If the roof style is gable, placing wood iron poles on the front and back wall from the ground to the peak could give some decent stability) 3. You could try making rafters with the wood iron beams, which should provide some support, but wouldn’t have support poles throughout the building.
Putting a roof on my giant circular portal hub is taking days and I'm noticing the clipping and snapping is getting tough the higher I go, might just scrap it. I flew too close to the sun... Either way, thanks for the tips!
You could do a full 16-angle circle at the base, and then at some point nearer the center, transition it into a octogonal by skipping every other roof & angle. Worth pointing out, circular roofs in valheim work better I think with a Clerestory Roof step up, which is a perfect time to reduce the number of angles you're using by half. If you window the clerestory step, it gives you ventilation for your fires/braziers. Also a "spiraling roof" shape can disguise the clipping issues of a circular build as intentional design elements.
