I would always trade extra bags of my Mom's chocolate chip cookies to my friends to get another slice of cafeteria pizza at lunch time. In elementary school we had the rectangular sausage pizzas, by high school they had switched to "triangle" slices which were lopsided halves of a rectangle. To this day I still prefer cubed pepperoni to sliced! (ha). I do miss the cafeteria pizza and I REALLY miss the giant top yeast rolls baked by the older lunch ladies who really knew how to cook.
You bet them older ladies knew their business. I have the recipe for those Yeast rolls too, will attempt to make em soon. It really mind boggling how they turned 100's of those rolls daily, each batch tasted exactly the same too
I'm glad that you called the pizza that was served in schools' cafeterias 'rectangular pizzas'! I hate when people call it 'square pizza', since the pizza is shaped like rectangles, not squares! :D
I am 52 and went to school in Louisiana. I remember pizza days. You could smell it cooking while in class and it became difficult to concentrate! I also remember an odd spinach salad with some kind of creamy dressing; everyone else hated it but I loved it so I asked for it from those sitting near me. THOSE FLUFFY YUMMY YEAST ROLLS WITH THE SHINY TOPS!!! The soft gingerbread cake with the clear lemony glaze! Nobody ever ate the carrot/raisin salad. I liked it but not enough to ask others for theirs. I remember the garbage cans being full of it on the days they wasted their time serving it. Please forgive me for my stumbling journey back into my childhood, but I waited 5 minutes for your recipe, so I guess that makes us even.
School pizzas were made by Tony's. Tony's commodity pizza. They come frozen. My mom had her deep freeze full of sheets of school pizza when I come to visit her in Iowa, years ago. She worked at a daycare / pre-school. I sure miss that pizza.
i was 10 in 1965 and we had that pizza once a week for all of "grade school" (K thru 6) then went to "junior high" 7 thru 9. i dont think we had it at junior high. i have been looking for this for a long time i knew youtube would come through. that looks pretty spot on. thanks for figuring this out. i will try it and let you know how it was. by the way that school pizza is the best pizza i have ever had for my taste, still to this day.

Thank you for the share my friend! I enjoyed every second of it! I prepared this recipe to the letter, (minus the bell peppers), and absolutely loved it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video JB. I appreciate you bringing back some fond memories and thanks for doing the research on school lunches. We sure did have some fine lunches at our schools down in da bayou!!!
My fat ass is from Georgia, I graduated in high school in 2004. Our school food was awesome, I will alway respect lunch room workers. They feed your kids, but never get any respect.
I'm pretty my school's pizza was frozen and it did have sausage on it. It was served maybe once a week. When we got older in middle school and high school...there were two lunch lines....one served only pizza (pepperoni pizza...cubed) and hamburgers....the other line served that day's menu. It was the most delicious pizza I have ever had.
I used to Love our school pizza. And they never served pizza enough. I'm definitely gonna try this. And those elementary school peanut butter cookies were another fav of mine. New subscriber here.
great video. i loved the school pizza back in the day. my grandkids don't care much for the food served these days in their school cafeteria. we new the cooks so we did get extra beans and sometimes pizza if there was any extra. those 'ol cafeteria gals were the best. Aunt Gladys, Dorothy,Grandma Ruby...oh yeah...👍🏼🍕🌭🍝
I think the ingredients for the tomato sauce were supposed to be mixed separately. Like traditional pizza where you put the sauce down, then the meat/veggies, then top with cheese. I could be wrong though. I’ve watched a handful of these videos of people following the same exact recipe, but end up doing a few things differently. It’s all about interpretation. Interesting to watch. Sort of like the experiment in a classroom where the teacher would whisper a sentence to one student, and one by one each student would whisper it to the next and at the final student we would see how much the sentence changed.
I hated school lunches. A friend and I use to leave the school at lunch. We would go to a nearby deli and buy a sandwich and coke. We did this all though high school. And never got caught until the week before we were due to graduate our senior year. The vice principal gave us a choice of a paldin or sunpenchin from school. We took the paddle. So we could take our final exams and graduate high school. I never held hard feelings against the vice principal. But my buddy did. Until this day he hates him. Lol. Cool video thanks for sharing.
what aboutot those burritos with beef cheese and potatoes for breakfast. I would die to have one. Omg. That crunchy crust and yummy filling. I dream about it
your so funny, we had a good breakfast pizza too at my school in Jefferson Parish, Orleans catholic schools. thanks for the video. my kids hate their school lunch but we are in Texas now I wish they could have had experienced Louisiana school lunch food. They cant believe we used to get red beans, gumbo, and beignets at school.
just subscribed, I am going to go peek at all your vids after this video, hope you got one for cafeteria cinnamon rolls or even the peanut butter bars :D great memories :D thank you
I know some folks that ate too much pizza out of those silicone sprayed pans. That explains a lot😂😂Knife just hit the bone, no big deal. You crack me up. I love making homemade pizza, I'll definitely have to give it a try. Never had any pourable dough. Thanks for researching and sharing.😃
JB. Good video and awesome memory you have shared regarding school cafeteria food. I'm from Louisville, Kentucky (currently reside in Colorado) and the food was awesome...good old southern cooking Your video of the rolls took me back and I can remember how the smell of rolls would be just like going to your grandma's while in school. School cafeteria fried chicken and pig's in the blanket (hotdogs made with those same rolls) were my favorite along with chocolate chip cookies! Been watching your videos for years. I've enjoy your field trip videos when you're visiting those old plantations along with you and your friend having a good time in his cabin , your old holiday videos cooking those roast, and your annual get together with Troy, the Vulgar chef, and others. Good material!! Here's to good health to you and your family so you are able to continue to share these funny and enjoyable videos . Good old down to earth folks I truly miss. Take care!
In the 1970's the elementary school I went to had great pizza :-) Looks great JB :-) A "BIG" thumbs up :-) Enjoy the rest of your Labor Day :-) ROCK ON!!!!!!!
Ah, it was the onion/bell pepper one! That was the low roll on the dice, as it were, alongside the Mexican* compared to the elusive chop cubed Pepperoni sorts. Somehow, they'd always way overcook these to the point where the cheese would wind up far darker than the dough/crust~
To be honest our school pizza was terriable. It was very thin and had cubed meat topping it was very much like Totinos nasty little frozen pizza. They where not at all like hat wonderfulness you made
Chicken nugget days were our favorite. Does anyone remember what those octagon shaped pizzas were that were darker and had sausage? I distinctly remember them being called Freshetta or Frishetta. They always seemed burned and had a darker taste to them.

My younger son started 9th grade high school 2 weeks ago. He said thats all they have every day and its nasty soggy and dont give enough. He comes home starving every day.
I was talking about the sauce not the dough. I made it last night and my wife said it was just like what she grew up with. I did not have the powdered milk so I replaced a cup of water with milk and, added more salt. When I was growing up we have that rectangular frozen pizza I think Tony's made it. Not once in all my school years did we ever get a pizza with a half inch of meat and veg under the cheese. We got 3, maybe 4 slices of pep and the pizza was dry enough we should have been served coffee to dip it in. Still, it was good eats, though I'll be sure to give your sheet recipe a shot, it looks really good. Thanks for taking the time for the research and the video, have a great day. I served at Ft Polk for 2 years, I sure miss me some boudin, let me tell ya what. That's not something we can find up here in Buffalo, NY. The wife and in-laws did a week in New Orleans and Baton Rouge and she was nice enough to bring me a few pounds home. That didn't take all that long to eat up though. If you've got a recipe for that, I'd be all over it. Let me check your channel. Anyhow, have a great night/day.
I've never made Boudin cause its sold everywhere down here for cheap. On the page below open the sausages section for its recipe www.gumbopages.com/food/

Down here they home made fresh by the cafeteria cooks they were never frozen
Louisiana Cajun Recipes back in the 60s and 70s everything was made fresh on sight.
I came to for the old school cafeteria pizza recipe. I stayed because you favor my poppaw, who passed in 2006.
Early 2000’s school pizza was amazing. I wouldn’t mind owning a few boxes for my deep freezer.
You can order it from Schwan's. It's actually a tony's pizza
