    Been hyped waiting for a new video this year! Very helpful particularly the balanced emphasis setting. I've noticed during wedding firing off quick shots has been quite slow. I'm very happy with my a73 for wedding but your setup with the a7r3 and crop mode on the 24GM has got me wanting an upgrade 😂.

    This and the sony focus modes Video just saved my butt with my new a7iii. I was just so disappointed with the adapted lenses because even though they are obviously adapted I didn't understand why eye af wouldn't work probably. Thanks to you it does now and I also set my custom buttons to an order that makes super duper sense for me and the way I shoot. Turns out I am more like you than julia trotti (who is my favourite photographer) and Jason vong (who's videos on the sony a7iii settings I've binge watched and didn't help me personally that much 😅)

    Essential in my books is in the DISP settings under Monitor tick the box next to For Viewfinder. This means the back screen has an extended menu pressing the Fn button. Less need to dive so much into the main menu. Similarly the My Menu if setup up to your most used items you'll likely need to only go into the main menu once every few weeks.

    Lmfao Chris “we had to have 10 just to make it even” 🤣 On a serious note though, I had never spotted the white balance priority so thanks so much for this! Really looking forward to seeing how that affects WB under indoor lighting as always found it a tad too warm. Even though I only use raw anyway, it’s always nice to see a more accurate picture in camera. Plus I’m hoping it’ll sort out my video WB issues too. On my R3 I have one of my preset banks for video mode with all my go to settings dialled, but one thing that annoys me is that you can’t keep setting a custom WB when using the memory banks, so hopefully this will sort those issues of too warm WB when shooting video indoors. Your content is always the best - love your work and your vids. Always coming out with interesting stuff.

      This AWB priority seems to be similar to Olympus. The Warm mode will keep tungsten lighting warm and close to how film would represent it. The White corrects any lighting situation as best it can.

    Hi Chris, I have in botton of the backscren (center) read "MM -2.0" the number is flashing. The dial compensation in the Top is set to "0". I don't what is and how remove this "MM-2.0" from the screen. Do you know what is? (A7III)
    Thanks!!

    I’m back,,,, already learned some relevant tips. My biggest problem with my A 7/3 is my own lack of understanding the setting up of the various short cuts in the menu. 22 configurations has me totally lost. I was ok with the A 6000. And the A7/2 but I’m bloody lost on the A7/3. Dear Mum. Send help. Thanks Chris for your help. Neville J.

      Ibis and awb is the same as far as I can tell. I have both cameras.
      Either way is fine but the A7R3 would be better overall

    Great tips thanks. I set the same in Aperture Priority (250th 12000 iso) in my Nikon D750's and balance it with exposure comp holding the button and using the rear dial. With Sony could the the rear dial be set exposure comp when in Aperture
    Priority as I am so used to it?

    • @ChrisTurnerPhotographer
      @ChrisTurnerPhotographer  4 роки тому +2

      I don’t think it can you prob wouldn’t want to either it would slip way to easy. I have mine set to nothing for that reason

    • @edshotsdotcodotuk
      @edshotsdotcodotuk 4 роки тому

      The Sony A7 bodies have a dedicated exposure comp dial that is easy enough to reach and rarely moves even on the non lockable models.

  • @JoseSanchezbze

    There is only one button you didn't discuss but it only matters if you use a manual lens. The release shutter without lens button. That is the mode you need to use to utilize a manual lens. For example you can focus peak to your heart's delight but the picture won't take unless it is in that mode when using vintage/manual lens that have no electronic parts. What I do want more of is the use of the white balance, are there times you must deep dive into the white balance or the options given such as cloudy and sunny enough? BUt i want more on your Aperture priority mode though. I set mine at 1/250th of a second, that really explained why i missed shots because the camera went below to slow speeds. How do you set how high the ISO goes in that mode?

  • @woseIl
    @woseIl 4 роки тому

    Thanks man! One think I wanted to ask - are you sure you can set the viewfinder frame rate on a7iii? I really couldn't find it but for a long time I was trying to find some solution because as long as I half press the shutter button the quality of image in the viewfinder drops drastically and it's kinda not pleasant to look through especially in case of little bit more zoomed in shots.

  • @JacquesLloyd

    Hi Chris great tips(My fav the "release"), any tips on the AF Track Sens, options 1 - 5 there?

  • @adeypoos
    @adeypoos 4 роки тому +1

    Useful hints I wasn't aware of - thanks. I prefer to have a custom button for eye detect rather than have it on by default, otherwise your image is flooded with white boxes all the time. Horses for courses I guess. Switching from balanced to release is a good tip though because I was finding the response a bit laggy and this has definitely sped things up. Is there a setting which turns grey skies into blue? Weather is so shit in the UK right now I'd like Sony to come up with something for that ;)

    Hi, so would you turn off DRO in your camera ? I take my photos in compressed RAW. I don't have lightroom. Some of my rainy day photos went a bit better when I turned on DRO in Imaging Edge.

      If you are editing in RAW DRO makes no difference other than causing you to underexpose by accident

    Quick extra tip - Electronic front curtain shutter can also cause banding in natural light as well. As per Jared Polin.

    • @ChrisTurnerPhotographer
      @ChrisTurnerPhotographer  4 роки тому

      I’ve heard that but Ive never been able to make it happen haha do you know what scenarios in particular? Thanks!

    • @TheJayCubitt
      @TheJayCubitt 4 роки тому

      @@ChrisTurnerPhotographer I believe its when there's some ambient artificial light that leaks into the frame, but more importantly it's mostly at high shutter speeds above 1/1000. But I really don't know that for sure. I just remember Jared mentioning that in one of his videos with a couple of example photos.

    • @edshotsdotcodotuk
      @edshotsdotcodotuk 4 роки тому

      The banding is usually most seen in silent mode and I think that was where Jared found it during his A9 review. As the A9 uses the electronic/silent shutter by default.

    • @TheJayCubitt
      @TheJayCubitt 4 роки тому +1

      @@edshotsdotcodotuk ya you're right. I know the A9 video you're talking about. There was another one where he switched to mechanical and was still getting some banding, until he realized he was in front curtain. I don't think its a huge problem, but something to keep an eye on.

    • @edshotsdotcodotuk
      @edshotsdotcodotuk 4 роки тому

      @@TheJayCubitt I shoot live comedy and it can be a nightmare to get a sharp shot if having to go under the LED lighting and it's flicker. My thinking is rather that than disturb punters with camera sound. Used to time the 5D with audience laughter.

  • @SelmanJulian
    @SelmanJulian 4 роки тому

    Are you saying that you should turn off DRO completely to avoid getting an enhanced image in the viewfinder? Just to clarify please. I often shoot RAW plus JPEG but I guess I don't really need DRO.

    • @ChrisTurnerPhotographer
      @ChrisTurnerPhotographer  4 роки тому

      Yes if your shooting raw dro is giving you a false exposure.

    • @johnpujol6437
      @johnpujol6437 4 роки тому

      Chris Turner Photographer not sure if this is correct but the following comment was made when someone posted about your DRO tip in a FB photo group so may want to check it out ..... ‘DRO optimizer info is not entirely correct. It does affect the raw images. it's just that Lightroom cannot use DRO info in the raw files. It also affects the histogram, can, therefore, change the raw file if you decide on exposure based on histogram info.’

    • @ChrisTurnerPhotographer
      @ChrisTurnerPhotographer  4 роки тому

      John Pujol no that’s wrong it affects JPGs only. And even if it did affect RAW files it wouldn’t make a difference. Plus I’ve tried it in capture pro also and it does the same thing

    • @ChrisTurnerPhotographer
      @ChrisTurnerPhotographer  4 роки тому

      It also doesn’t change the histogram at all, in camera in may do but that’s because it’s showing the JPG preview histogram
