- Laura keeps the Scotland seat warm while Ed is away tending to the latest crisis to fall on Holyrood.
Humza Yousaf today announced his plan to resign as Scotland's First Minister following a disastrous week for the SNP leader. We take a look at the inner workings of the SNP and what's next for Scotland's largest party.
Then, a new Brexit tariff coming in on Tuesday which could see EU exporters paying £145 to send goods to the UK. We break down what it'll mean for people who eat.

Laura's 'baked in' pun being missed was a crime
If someone pours three tins of beans on your car, the message is "you're toast."
or "you've bean warned"
Solidly on focus whilst Laura was supervising, moment she's gone 20 minutes of gardener's question time.
Great commitment to brand identity.
Day 8 of asking for a production team microphone
Excellent shout
It worked for the Always Sunny podcast, it's basically the same content
Or subtitles.
What's that?
Meh
So, for everyone's information, Yousaf lasted 36.1 Scaramuccis, or 8.1 Trusses
Just want to take a moment to say that PIP payments have Nothing to do with work regardless of what Sunak says, they are in fact the ONLY benefit that isn’t means tested. It is designed for the extra daily living costs of being disabled, and funds the Motability scheme that leases cars or electric wheelchairs to people who need them for mobility reasons
So when Labour (depressingly) talk about getting people off benefits and into work, or even specifically disabled people off benefits and into work, it does not mean a change to PIP unless they also don’t understand what it does
Laura always has the best on point, points to be made. Love it when you have her on the show. She keeps you both on track. Bringing the best out in you both.
I first discovered these phytosanitary requirements a year ago after sending one of my regular shipments of sunflower seeds to the EU only to have them destroyed by customs without warning. Because of brexshit my business can no longer export and its affected my larger suppliers too. The cost and hassle of phytosanitary certificates mean its no longer viable. Glad someones talking about this, kind of. I don't usually get annoyed when you guys go off on tangents but this is frustrating to listen to - every time I think youre talking about the subject you veer off again. As an allotment holder, it's good to know about the alpaca poo though!
Same. I'll be on the lookout for that shit.
More Laura, please! She is awesome 🤩
Great showing by Laura.
The piss Era is over!
Any chance of some local election stuff?
Also no awful jaclets
Dawn is breaking for the great aeon of alpaca shit
I feel like it’s just a matter of time until the return of “Mark Mingey”.
Okay I need to say it, I really enjoyed the gardening chat, found it really interesting.
He's a good bloke.
Me too. Would totally listen to a growing pod.
Oli not knowing Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner is like Ed not knowing Auld Lang Syne
Plus one for more Laura!
Plus another for lots more Laura
Laura was brill. Well done !! 👏🏾👏🏾
Great coverage of the Scottish government issues by Laura. Please continue to give her a bigger role (no disrespect meant to Ed, but she's very articulate and keeps you two on point 😂😅)
some context you missed on the humza situation was that green members were going to hold a vote on wither or not to end the bute house agreement because of dissatisfaction on how the SNP haven't listened to their green partners. This would not have passed, there was not enough anti SNP sentiment within the members to pass it but humza didn't want to appear as weak in having the greens leave him so he jumped the gun not realising that the gun was then pointed at him
More Laura please! Also I can’t believe you missed her “baked in” joke about the Bean attack! 🥲
Laura is finally back on the pod!
The thing about seeing a wall of chicken wings rather than being conscious of the living beings that were sacrificed to create it is called the “absent referent” as described by carol j Adams in “the sexual politics of meat”. Its worth a read
“Tories are centrists” - Reform spokesperson
I love it when Laura is on, you could be discussing the moon imminently crashing into the earth and she would still look pleased as punch to be there. More Laura! Or a spin off!
😂
Would be nice if people actually referenced some poling or facts when pontificating about the chances of Scottish independence.
Can’t wait for the episode on Vaughan Gething’s donations!
Ava since Ed isn't here to read all the comments, can we please have Laura back feel free to replace Oli.
I heard Ollie is so plugged in with plants, he lodged a small obergine in his beaver hole.
🔥🔥🔥 pod
Glad Eva said it, I was think "My Fair Eddie" !!
Let's go Laura ! ❤ but damn I miss Ed's ethereal tones :(
Go off Ava! I enjoyed that discussion around what Labour vs Tories are offering
I love Laura and Ava , i think they are fantastic even though i don't always agree with their politics , they are pretty much on point with a lot of issues and will speak thair minds no matter whom they upset specially Ava .
Would be useful to have timestamps on the video
I would STRONGLY suggest inviting someone like Earthling Ed to debate veganism with you
Lol n1
Yessss
Please please do this!
Do you have any suggestions for a good place to start with his content?
@@cynicalpenguin He helped make a documentary called 'Land of Hope and Glory' about animal agriculture in the UK. It's about 45 minutes long and is great at letting you know exactly what you're paying for when you buy animal products. I also find his debates (more like conversations) with people at American universities quite entertaining. You might see how Ed would respond to some of the points that you'd be likely to make. Also, he has a series of a bunch of short videos refuting anti-vegan arguments if you're curious about any.
Growing up, the SNP were a fringe party full of Presbyterian conservatives. They are likely to return to that and young liberally minded Indy voters will vote Green.
Anyone voting Green is mindless 😂
addendum: love all the food chat! very nuanced and interesting and very relevant to a lot of people
You guys should speak to someone about your veganism/vegetarian arguments. It could be quite an interesting conversation.
Ditto this, get Earthling Ed on
The ways the two major parties are similar just suggest that current Labour is right of centre. I think it undoubtedly is economically, and socially I certainly don't think they appear to be left of centre anywhwere.
Only lessons to be learnt from the Cass report is that it was mental to allow people on the panel of reviewing trans youth healthcare who clearly have a transphobic agenda yet have a ban on any trans people on it.
It's a completely ridiculous and disgusting report that is extremely biased and totally hypocritical, expecting unattainable levels of evidence (which, by the way, aren't even expected in other areas of healthcare for some practices for similar reasons) which would often be entirely unethical.
If she feels unsafe on busses, maybe she should've considered that before releasing something so consequential for kids at a delicate time yet so full of holes.
Love this Joe x Xmen crossover. Always appreciated Rogues complex character arcs.
great to hear soil health / mulch / manure chat! more of that I say!
I think some of the ‘border force’ decisions are fine but need to be replaced or phased out with uk industries/ farming. There is no sense in causing food prices to soar if there is no other option. If the only place I can get my mushrooms from are Poland and they are going up in price, then I need the option to get cheaper British products. Isn’t that what tariffs are for?
Also polls are consistently 50/50 on independence, this was 25/75 pre 2014. Independence still only a generation or 2 away. (And a united Ireland)
If Eva thinks British tomatoes are bad, she needs to buy better tomatoes (80% of UK supermarket tomatoes are imported and force ripened)
I love that Oli is part of the no dig team. Also maybe use old food or fish bone under growing zones and that gives you amazing nutrients.
I'd like to hear Ollie's thoughts on LBC and Sangita.
We've eaten meat for ages so it's justified... Can you think of anything humans have done for ages which we have decided is unethical?
Here’s an interesting approach to consider.
An EU referendum in tandem with a Scottish independence referendum.
EU ref: two options (rejoin / stay out)
Scottish referendum: three options (leave if the uk stays out of the EU / leave regardless / stay)
Feels like an easy way to force a rejoin of the EU and throw a bone scotlands way so they can say for the next 50 years “no no, you had a referendum, quiet down”
There are probably tons of holes in this, but it’s an interesting thing to imagine happening.
Sounds like the perpetrator of that crime has gone into heinzing
hi ed.
AVA! Where in the natural food cycle does an animal getting minced by a harvester fall. Its still massive scale agronomy and the biosphere suffers for it.
Not really surprised that commentry is not up to speed and based on an English view sourced from media speculation. However, it is interesting how this is always the case
The idea of being able to plant directly after fresh manure is called ‘cool manure’ the ‘hot manures’ need composting first
Do it for the hot beds!
Two girls one boy, the CLASSIC line-up. (for podcasts, leave your mind in the gutter).
I thought it was a cup, not a boy. Hrm.
The sound is pretty ropey on this. Part of it seems to be over-aggressive noise reduction swallowing bits of various syllables; The other problem is having the mics too close. Every slight movement of your head changes the sound quality; If the mic is slightly further away, those changes are reduced.
I've yet to see or hear of an open casket at a Catholic funeral in UK. Maybe the preference is national/ regional / cultural rather than religious
Golden Boy has been sent to the gulag again
Surely some slided bread is the only way to mop up beans off a car? 😂
Is Ed off being Susan Hall's arm candy?
Go on ava spot on regarding not eating animals!
💚
Naples is my favorite city in the world ❤❤
Shocked at Ava's comments re the railway stock. Ultimately the private companies leach in either scenario whether through regular payments or one off compensation
I always think the intro says “love podcasts, hate nonces”
It doesn’t?
It does
It does
C’mon, I wanted to stay in but I’m not kicking off . That’s what a democracy is about.
"Yes, I am fulfilled, in the same- we're gonna talk about assisted dying in a moment - in the same way..." - Oli on top form today
Alpac Poo Rocks. Those that know know. Stop spilling the beans, Oli. 😆💚
My boyfriend has zero interest in the politics but really perked up at the gardening chat
I feel schooled in alpaca shit. Love a bit of mulch chat.
Bit confused on why you'd want to get to the point where you're killing animals of your own instead of simply removing them from your diet completely
Can oli do a homestead commune episode 🙏got a great one in Wales he'd love!
They love it when laura cones on. And when she leaves. Esoecially then. Nice belt Laura.
Some of the rail contracts ARE long, but most will fall within the next 5 years I believe.
Producer Laura. Wowser
Ive recently started working at a supermarket and literally this week I have had an existential crisis over meat due to having to sort and display it in the shop.
I recently researched how we slaughter animals in the UK as I literally didn't know. It's horrendous but especially for chickens. It's either mass gassing or clipped upside down and heads dunked into an electrified bath of water. Either way, it's giving 1940s dictator vibes.
I also can't help feel annoyed with parents and schools for not teaching this to me when I was younger and also in my own ignorance for never finding out until now.
I still eat meat but now struggle morally.
47:28
'You wouldn't waste a bullet on a pig'...
What’s the tomato joint called !!??
Ava "the hammer" Santina
You definitely watch Charles Dowding
30:41 And in that moment every Albanian raised forth their arms in protest.
At the point in my life where I want Oli to @ the Alpaca farm so I can pick up manure for my allotment..
How big are all these farms we all need to grow our own veg and kill our own meat?
What even is that conversation?
I don't disagree with Laura's point about Labour, but I'm a bit baffled by the bit about the cass report in the context of proving their progressive credentials.
Id download tiktok just to watch Oli gardening tbf
Oli's points about the industrial nature of our agriculture and how we should strive to feed ourselves is perfect. Learn about Permaculture and self sufficiency it's the only sustainable way forward for us and would cure many of the worlds woes.
I feel like I’ve learned a lot about alpaca shit.
Who told these children they had a clue?
Im just here for the Permaculture Content. 👍
Oli’s take on meat-free diet and cats eating birds - not the same. A cat is not a moral agent able to reason and subject to ethical accountability, but a person is.
I find myself unable to justify causing unnecessary harm by choosing to consume animal products when alternatives are available, despite my cultural and ancestral background. A cat lacks the capacity to assess this.
also, cats are obligate carnivores, whereas humans are omnivorous, and ethical veganism is about minimising harm where possible (I say this as a meat-eater who sees many strawmans of ethical veganism. my own morality comes from a humanist approach with a bit of emotivism and behavioural inertia ...hmmm...)
I listened to the Economist before the pay wall .... But I'm glad i found these twits 😂 you don't get Alpaca shit on 'Money Talks'
I've been hooked on this podcast for a while now. Today's show was like watching Kathy Irland, Elle McPherson, and Justin Timberlake having an intellectual discussion about the news. 🤯
sunak was in october not humza he was in march don't get your browns mixed
The greens were holding a vote on bringing down the Bute house agreement and Hamza did this to try get ahead of it. Bad politics but not complete hubris
Animals hunt others out of necessity to survive. We don't mass kill animals to survive, we have other options. Ava has got me thinking 🤷
Typical Oli, loves going on about phytosanitary certificates but doesn't know "Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner"
Laura is a cute alternative to Ed
Or is Ed the cute alternative to Laura?
It would be really interesting to see the pod with Laura, Ava, and Ed. I can’t remember if you’ve had that before but I think would be a different kind of banter. Might be totally shit but who knows.
Oh Oli that's a ridiculous argument, wolves kill animals so I'm justified to do it too...OMG
love podcast hate nonsense it's the politics Joe podcast ladies and gentlemen
(Demur it may be, but it makes for boring auto-subtitles!)
theres no hormone called hydrocortisol its just cortisol or hydrocortisone which is a synthetic hormone, Otherwise very enjoyable
This is the problem of Brexit, all our good farmers turn into youtuber now
I feel like the wrong people are cheering Humza Yousaf’s resignation.
Like who?
Should the new introduction be "Hate nonsense; indifferent to Podcasts....the Politics Joe Podcast, Ladies & Gentlemen"...one wonders, in light of new evidence?!! 🤣
Where are the llamas?
