    One of my favourite, all time ironies is,
    England saying "better together" to Scotland [on the grounds of remaining in the EU]
    Then immediately pulling Scotland and N. Ireland out of the EU.

    • @frze5645
      @frze5645 9 місяців тому +8

      No irony at all. Better together as a nation state with common objectives and a shared financial structure makes a great deal of sense... this does not apply to the EU which is a group of competing economies (competing with Britain) with a single currency controlled by unelected bureaucrats. Not rocket science but some people do have difficulty understanding the bloody obvious. Scotland and Northern Ireland do not have their own currency, nor could they create one, and it is therefore in their interest to remain in the UK.

    As someone who had visited Britain years before Brexit (pre-2010), I was always impressed by the BBC's journalistic dissection of politicians and policies. It might have been a wrong impression, but as an outside observer I thought that it was a very robust media which holds people to task. Well, I was really surprised then in 2016 that the normally aggressive BBC treated Brexiteers with kid gloves and didn't ask them detailed questions about their plans. The media is supposed to be an immune system, letting people know about crazy ideas and their consequences, but they totally failed during the Brexit coverage and you're still living with the consequences of that today.

    I bet O'Brien hasn't got a chapter on his own contribution to the 2016 referendum which includes working for the anti-EU tabloids, sharing a studio with Hopkins, Farage, Ferrari, et al, and hosting an eponymously titled, and thankfully short-lived hybrid Kyle/Kilroy effort for ITV in which he 'just asked questions' (aka pushed tabloid talking points) about race, immigration & benefits "culture". If Remain had won in 2016, rather than losing 3 times in 3 years (thanks to the likes of O'Brien) he'd still be attacking the working class rather than hoping they're disillusioned enough to stop his latest book flopping.
