One thing people mostly forget about this watch is that It can show 3 time zones at the same time, thanks to the 24 hours markers inside the dial. Not many watches in the market can do that. Not even Rolex GMT. Some people who travels a lot and works in different time zones need this watch. For my self, I need to track local time, home time and New York's market time ... Perfect 3 !
This Seiko 5 GMT looks so good. I love Seiko 5, so this steps it up a few notches and looks more expensive than it is. That jubilee bracelet sealed the deal. This is a middle finger to the Swiss

Great info! I think the answer here is to drop the 4R34 movement in a SKX case. Get the water resistance of the SKX and better bezel scenario with the GMT. Personally, I've got an empty SKX case sitting around which I'll be outfitting just this way once I find a 4R34 and an appropriately awesome date only Seiko dial.

Yeah that sounds like a good set up! for me having the bigger selection of bezels would be the main reaosn I would want to put it in the SKX, I think I'll want to make one with a MM300 looking dial like the ones Namoki sells. Just thinking about an MM300 style GMT with the comfort of an SKX makes me so unbelievably excited!
Guys, you should consider that 4R36 dial`s hole is bigger and the movement is just a slite thicker. You also need a little bit more space under the crystal for all 4 hands.
Oh wow it looks incredible on that oyster style bracelet! I'm not a huge fan of jubilees so the OEM bracelet was distracting me from the SSK's goodness but I'm ready to get one now that I can make your combo happen. Great stuff TWI and thanks for trying to swap the bezel. Sad to see the bezels aren't compatible but I'm sure 3rd party SSK bezels are on the way👍
I enjoyed the oem bracelet for a while but i swapped in the strapcode bracelet asap bc it just looks so good! on the wrist with the SSK spring bars, it feels solid which is making keep it on this bracelet. Yeah I cant wait to see what sort of bezels the big mod companies are going to put out! Fingers crossed that a steel one comes out real soon bc that would be near perfect!
@@thewatchidiot yeah a steel bezel would make it pair well with your BB Pro but for me I'm excited to see a lumed ceramic coke bezel. Once that happens I'm good to go
Nice one TWI, that SSK looks great! Some really good information on the bezel differences between the SSK and SKX. Your point to put a timing bezel on the GMT is a great one as you have the 24 hour markers on the chapter ring. I would be happy to consider a watch with this spec, GMT and timer, that could be awesome. If I didn't already have GMT covered I would certainly have a look at the SSK. As you mention the friction bezel removes factory alignment issues as well.

Actually I think a 20mm lug width would have made the watch look larger. It would probably wear better, more comfortable, but it would definitely make the watch look bigger

Would have been interesting to see if you could move the chapter ring and whole movement into the SKX case. wouldn't that solve the bezel issue (for you) as it would have the dive bezel and as a bonus a screw down crown. After market cases are easy to find.

literally was the 1st guy to arrive in the store when they have the stocks.. all colors. had ample amount of time to try on all of them. and the solar panda was on stock too. anyway i bought the "Batman" since i have plenty of blacks already and orange doesnt cut to my skin color. bought extra batman and the orange for my workmates. and reserved all solar pandas. 🤣 i have 7.5 inch wrist just like yours. used to wearing 44mm and up but i guess this doesnt look small on my wrist.
Someone told me that a push-pull crown will wear down less than a screw down, with merit to water resistance being 100m. So, in reality, I think that's a positive in my book 😅
I have a background in machining. Threads to eventually wear out over time. The more you unscrew and screw the crown, the faster the threads will wear. I don’t know how efficient the waterproofing of the crown is after it’s reached a lifetime of wear and tear.
I actually got the measurements of the inserts at the end of the video! The SKX insert is unfortunately just a touch smaller than the SSK insert might be enough for it to look off tho
The reason why everyone else makes the colors separate so you can see them at a glance is for us pilots to see day or night fast. We are flying planes and do not need to tilt the watch to see that change in color. not really functional.
I wonder if you could buy an skx case from namoki and just swap out the dial, chapter ring, movement, and caseback so that then you can use skx bezels and have a screw down crown
I’m very new to watches and was looking to buy my first watch that I can wear everyday anytime any place, I went with this exact watch and I love it, only problem I have is the actual gmt feature as I don’t really use it and don’t see the point in it lol
Heimdallr makes a great skx007. Seiko NH36 movement, Sapphire crystal with blue AR , C3 lume, 120 click bezel, Jubilee bracelet, and 200m water resistance. All that for around $150. I had mine for over 2 years with no issues.
Went to the store and compared 3 seiko 5 gmt - result: bezel movement totally varies, one very hard, one very loose, one in the middle. How much wrist time until click-free bezel turns totally loose and is affected by accidental contact? Very nice watch, but i don't understand why click-free bezel and now screwdown crown.
Yeah I'm so glad Seiko entered the gmt game, things were definitely too expensive in the world of gmts. I cant wait to see what the microbrand world will do with this movement. We're entering a golden age of affordable gmts!

More importantly, does the gmt movement fit well on a SKX007 case with screw-down crown? Because i do scuba diving and if i wanna mod this using the SKX 007 case then it will be perfect for travel and at the same time for outdoor/water sports activity without having that fear of water getting in.
Is it possible to swap the gmt‘s movement into an SKX ?? And maybe for height issues using a double domed sapphire ?? So you could have a divers gmt watch. Also remove the cklickspring or mod ist for bidirectional rotation sweet if that would be possible
Strapcode makes awesome bracelets for the Seiko SRPD aka the "5KX" and they are compatible with this watch. Their super o boyer bracelet is a 3 link oyster style bracelet and its heavier and love it on my SKX but you can check out their other styles they have a bunch!
I removed my pre order. The whole of the Netherlands only got 175 examples so far and I would have to wait nearly 4 months on mine.. no thanks. I'll pick it up used or on discount in a couple of months.

The thing is you literally can just take the click springs out of seikos and get a perfect bi directional bezel So no the mod community does NOT need to make new parts for these 11:03 they won't and I hope they don't lmao, and no seiko hates tbe mod community that's why they killed the skx and made the cheap alternative 5s, and no as well that's just a tooling mark on your watch, typical bad QC
I have a hard time believing that ppl that buy this watch are divers. This is more of an office GMT. So they all need to stop with the “100M” water resistance comments. Most of these watches will never touch the ocean or pool. I guarantee it.
I dont know the specifics about the 5KX case but i'm 95% sure that its going to have the same difference as the SKX vs SSK GMT cases i showed (ie no cutout for the bezel click spring). The bracelets will be interchangeable between the 5KX and the SSK GMT since they both use the thinner non fatboy springbars used on the SKX. I'll be able to confirm on friday when a 5KX bracelet comes in

Check Seiko divers and divers-like range from entry to mid level, all the other manufacturers combined don’t come even close to what they offer. Seiko is on another level. Check the Dark Manta Ray Turtle, this new GMT’s, the limited editions of 5KX’s, the reissues of Captain Willard, the Land Tortoise, the competition offerings look like amateur watches designed in the coffee break by people who are only good at checking boxes in Microsoft Excel.
You won’t be diving with a GMT. I bet money on it that you won’t be diving with your SKX either. And if you are, you’ll be using a dive computer anyway. So the water resistance this mode offers is more than enough for washing the car, or your hands, and going for a swim at the beach or the local pool.

It's a really beautiful watch. I'm sure it won't satisfy everyone, but it's a great introduction GMT for most people.

Next thing to do is soak your gmt bezel in acetone, remove the bezel insert and see if the inserts are the same sizes.
