The Hardlex bezel insert is a game changer. I'm wearing the black version right now and it feels like a $5,000 watch. No need to save up for a GMT Master II
It’s pretty crazy how ppl criticise the specs of this watch…. When Seiko has once again changed the game.. an affordable gmt movement that Everyone is going to use
Exactly! Seiko releases this - internet geeks who still live in their mom's basement (probably) - "if only this was 39mm, had a sapphire crystal, even more lume, sapphire bezel, better bracelet, was a real GMT, more accurate movement, different incides and hands, bigger crown, at least 200m water resistance, was ISO certified and was priced UNDER $150.- I would totally buy it, really I would, no seriously, I really really would buy it."
@@runningawayvagabond5876 that’s a Pagani, Karl. ;-) I love my FauxMariner, and it keeps excellent time. But that orange Seiko is awesome … and yes, it’s a Seiko not a … Pagani.
@@runningawayvagabond5876Microbrands will be doing just that at under $300 once these movements become widely available, so yea it kinda is a bad value. But modern sekio isnt really about value. They invent the movement and sell it, with their own watches being more or less reference designs for microbrands to base their own designs on. The seiko watches are never gonna be spec competitive nor are they expected to be
I want a GMT in my collection and this blueberry one is tempting but I'm betting Long Island Watch will soon have some very cool watches based on this movement but with better bracelets and saphire crystal so I am inclined to wait. Great video as usual Marc!
Love these, (the blue dial especially). I have a Seiko 5 Sports SRPD77K1 (the one on the mesh bracelet) and it now keeps time to about +3 seconds per day! An excellent figure for a relatively inexpensive mechanical. Nicely finished too. Seiko make great watches!
I just received the orange dial variant from LIW yesterday. I was nervous going outside my comfort zone with the orange but LOVE IT! One interesting thing is that the 6-18 portion of the bezel is mirror-like to the point that you can't read the numbers in a few light situations and often mirror-like but can still read the numbers. That portion of the bezel can rarely be described as gray. That might bother some but I think it is a cool look with the 18-6 portion of bezel black and 6-18 mirror-like.
They admittedly look great, but I'm going to bide my time until Marc and the other micros get a hold of the movement (or the miyota one). Hopefully we'll get this in a smaller case size and with a sapphire crystal. IMO, that's worth waiting for. I'm really excited to see with Marc and Zelos do with this movement!!!!!
Mark, we all know that you will get your hands on this movement, and then it will be AWESOME!!! 200 meters, screw down crown, Sapphire, and a killer bracelet. It's crazy when you get excited about a Seiko release because you know LIW is gonna make better one!!
Oh man.. It is so exciting to think about the watches microbrands will come out with this gmt movement. Exciting times indeed. By the way love the new set up Mark!
Well…took me long enough, but I finally popped for the 003, and it arrived much faster than anticipated (just like the Alpinist I ordered when you still had 'em). Thanks again, Marc!
The Seiko 5 GMT is one of my favorite Seiko watches. What's not to like about it .. I can't wait to see an Islander with that new movement in it too. Keep up the great videos Marc.
Accolades to Seiko for bringing an affordable automatic GMT to the market. Like Marc I'm more excited about the movement than the watch. Like many have stated, I can't wait for the NH34 to be available and see what the Islander GMT options look like. Marc, I hope you already working on the design. Based on the many comments here it may be difficult to get an Islander GMT in the first drop.
They definitely look very nice. I was under the impression that the jubilee style bracelet on these was a slight upgrade over the old OEM SKX jubilee style. I thought this one had solid center links? I love my old SKX one with the hollow end links and jangly, loose fit, so it wouldn't matter much either way to me tbh.
I've got the orange for 375. love it. bracelet is beautiful, extremely comfortable and, boy, that power reserve outperforms almost everything in my box. except for the Hamilton and Seiko SARB
I really love your Spring Drive GMT. I'm not excited over any Seiko 5. I'm excited over the movement and can't wait until you can get them. Keeping my fingers crossed for a larger Islander GMT (44mm? 😉)
I was very excited for this release and still may may pick up an orange one. As a pilot, I've been looking for a beater GMT to wear to work so as not to scratch my BLNR or my new BBGMT S&G. That being said, the one thing that bothers me is not having a 24 click bezel. I can settle for a office GMT at this pricepoint, but every GMT with a 24 hour bezel should allow you to click forward/back the UTC +- difference between time zones. May seem trivial to most, but just a "thang" for me. I think I will just save a few more bucks and look into a Longines Zulu Time or maybe even a B&R V2-93 (typically discounted). That being said, this Seiko is a steal at this price, and it will be a great way to add a fun colorway I don't wear often without having to spend more on something like a Doxa.
My thoughts exactly. I fly w/ my Breitling Aerospace, which is great, but kind of a pain to change the time on it. And I just can’t see wearing $15k on my wrist at work.
i had the same exact seiko snr 049 that mark owns and since i have other high end seikos i sold it and i got the seiko 5 batman and man i feel like i did not miss anything, for one the titanium part i did not like much so if you on the fence those are well worth it watches
I just picked up the SSK003 blueberry version. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to purchase it from LIW but I'll be sure to get the orange one from you when it's back in stock!
i had it for a few days now, and to compare the bracelet to the old SKX, is a bit much. So far it's one of the best bracelets on any Seiko in that price range i've seen. Even without a milled clasp.
Okay, that's *it* ...need to get on the list for the Blueberry-not-Batman version of this. Last thing I expected Seiko to do, but here we are. (Good luck keeping these puppies in stock, Marc.)
Glad someone from Long Island is doing great content about something I like a lot. I grew up in Plainview, and went to Plainview Old Bethpage High School (now defunct) class of 1984. Were you from there, or any of the surrounding areas?
Nice video, nice seing seiko giving us neo vintage vibes without breaking the bank , looks good design wise even 10 years from now . Modern neo vintage
I have to admit, I want one. I have more Seiko 5 models then I need and ultimately I need another "diver" style watch like I need a hole in the head. But the price is incredibly fair for this as far as I'm concerned and the blueberry model looks really nice. I'll probably pick one up when the hype dies down a bit.
Would be nice if you had some kind of reservation system in place. By the time I get the notification that it’s in stock, it goes out of stock when I actually try to grab it.
Its made in Japan so to me its is reliable. Hard to find affordable gmt at this price point, can’t afford the lx Sky line batman version, so Seiko 5 gmt batman its my go to
Great looking watches, lets give credit to Seiko for this release. Yes I understand these watches don't have a screw down crown and no Sapphire Crystal but its still a good watch. I see many comments on this new movement and how they can't wait for Long Island watches and others to do something with it. I respect those that are into micro brands, personally as much as I try I can't get myself to spend $300 on a micro brand no matter the specs. I am not a watch snob but I do think that brand name, history, etc matters.
Imma hold off for a little while but damn the gray is absolutely awesome! Will definitely be a added to my collection at some point. Imo my favorite srpd model so far!
Micro brands with this movement will blow seiko watches out of the water. But all credits goes to seiko for such incredible and affordable gmt movement.....
Yeeees! I’m mostly excited for the fact that it has a jiggly jubilee! We all know the SKX bracelet is the most comfortable bracelet on the market. Even better than the 90s roles datejust. ( in terms of comfortability )
