      Wow thanks so much Yes it very much turned into a kind of tribute to BB while I was making it, I'm glad it came across that way. Hopefully it didn't come off too cringey hahah.
      I looove Oedon chapel too. The hub room is quite small compared to how tall the building itself is. So cool

    Wow. This whole view about the hunter's nightmare and how the exploration of the fishing hamlet and of Kos are fundamentally related to the hunter's curse really blew my mind.
    Even though it might not be canonically true, it's interesting to think that people would no longer become beasts once you return Kos' children to the ocean.
    I also never though about how in the real world, the research hall could actually be hidden behind the grand catedral, along with other horrors that the church chose to hide and that led to the scourge of beasts.

      Yeah it really is wild going back to Bloodborne after playing Elden Ring. I have to say Bloodborne combat does feel better. Thank you for mentioning at 24:40 that the Cathedral kinda looks like a ship. It always made me think me of a huge ship when viewed from its side.
    I gotta say however that the facade (basically the astral clocktower exterior) and its unusual shape also always reminded me of the medieval port crane in Gdańsk. Considering how the lore of Bloodborne is deeply connected to the sea, Kos etc, the fact that the Cathedral is designed like a seaport building mixed with a ship is quite fitting.
    Absolutely great video and stunning 3D model.
    I know it's been months but I hope you come back to this series.

      @@stefano763 oh my god YES!!! I absolutely see a similarity to the crane. I didn’t know what Gdańsk was until you mentioned it haha. Howd ya know about the crane, are you from Poland?
      And yes it’s very fitting that it’s by the water as well. It appears that the astral clocktower in the fishing hamlet was sunk to such a level that it looks pretty much identical to how the crane looks. Amazing.
      I seriously can’t get over that, you’ve given me so much closure because I knew SURELY the clocktower is based off something in real life, I just had no clue where to look.
      And thank you :) I’m still working on a vid, it’s just life gets in the way bahaha you know how it is

      @@talon1084 I'm glad you too can see the similarity. And no, I'm not from Poland. Italy, actually.
      The reason I'm familiar with the crane is because I re-played The Witcher 3 after Bloodborne and in the main city of The Witcher, which is called Novigrad, there's a building that is based on that crane in Poland. In my first run I didn't even notice it, but after playing Bloodborne I was like "what is the Cathedral doing here?". I guess I gained insight lol.
      About life getting in the way... I can totally relate.

    Great video. A few comments though. You mention Laurence might have ruled over Yharnam and also might have commanded them to build higher. Tihs is not possible, because Laurence died before the Healing Church was founded. Therefore he wasn't around when Old Yharnam burned and the church started building in Yharnam.
    24:55 Is there any evidence early church members raided the fishing hamlet? I don't think this is true. The only church member we know was there was Maria, who later became a member of the church. This was obviously LONG before the church existed in any capacity.

    • @talon1084
      @talon1084  6 місяців тому

      Thank you! Your comments are most welcome.
      I think that old and new Yharnam co-existed for some time, it wasn't a situation where they destroyed the old and built the new. I see it as eventually they became more ambitious and decided to build an actual city just next to the town they had already created. Then on a previous night of the hunt the church sectioned it off.
      Admittedly, Laurence is probably the character I know the least about, I always forget he exists lol. Although he's described as "the First Vicar" and "the first Cleric Beast" which are both church titles. But if you know more I trust your opinion haha. All Laurence is to me is a headache to fight each playthrough.
      As for church members in the hamlet, we find the Harrowed set there, which is an attire belonging to the church. A fish-person is attacking the body we find it on, so I've always interpreted this as it being angry at the church and hunters. Despite Maria and Gerhman most definitely being the main perpetrators.
      These are my personal reasonings for why I said what I did in my video :) I wouldn't be surprised if some things I say don't hold up. I got very wrapped up in the storytelling when writing my script so maybe I created a few plot holes to make it all sound cohesive lul

    • @SirSaladAss
      @SirSaladAss 3 місяці тому

      Laurence himself founded the Healing Church after he broke off with Master Willem due to their disagreement on the use of blood. He was the "First Vicar" (初代教区長 in Japanese, i.e. "the first to hold the bishopric", not therefore implying vicariousness) of what else but the Healing Church? He was the main proponent of blood experimentation. We find him in the Healing Church Cathedrals (all 3 of them): we find his skull oozing with blood (purportedly the holy medium Alfred speaks to us about), his flaming corpse, his nightmare skull beneath the altar to the Research Hall, an altar which depicts him as the main figure (the one wearing a mitre, a bishop's headgear).
      He beckoned the moon: "The nameless moon presence beckoned by Laurence and his associates (i.e. Gehrman, since we find the Umbilical Cord that talks about the Moon Presence in his workshop), Paleblood." That's what precipitated the disaster of Old Yharnam: "The red moon hangs low, and beasts rule the streets. Are we left no other choice, than to burn it all to cinders?"
      The Accursed Brew description, the Fishing Hamlet priest, the Harrowed set, the dead upside down corpse tied to resemble the Hunter's Mark, the baneful chants. All points to a bloody intercourse with the Fishing Hamlet. The Church's raid is THE main component of the narrative, what brought on every calamity in the game (barring, Master Willem's discovery of the Pthumerian catacombs). Laurence and Gehrmam (we see him in the story trailer walking around the hamlet), among others perhaps ("Laurence and his associates", but Japanese is finicky with plurals), stole Kos's umbilical cord to call on a Great One for help freeing them of the beast plague and the curse of Kos (the curse of the Hunter's Nightmare), and the Moon Presence responded, granting them the Hunter's Dream and the endless hunt in exchange for a child. Laurence sought it in the catacombs (his promise to Gehrman, the one mentioned in his skull's description and in Gehrman's sleeptalk, was to unshackle the latter from the dream since the Moon Presence is keeping him hostage) but remained stuck there since he turned into the Bloodletting Beast (both it and Laurence's skull have the same gash over their forehead; also, we find a headless Bloodletting Beast just before pregnant Queen Yharnam's floor, implying that Church hunters beheaded him and brought his skull back home to be used as a fount of holy blood).
      Please, please, don't say things are "obvious" when you clearly lack fundamental elements of the topic you're talking about. I'm not trying to be abrasive, but I just hate that word, especially when it's so readily gainsaid.

Linear games middle era of the series like Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and Sekito were the peak of the series.
