"How come he don't want me?" No kid should ever have to ask that.
R.I.P X yet the same kids who ask this, grow up to have their own kids who ask the same question

R.I.P X I know it's not the same for everyone but I've watched past friends do the same to their own kids. Keep being there bro

Oh man I cry my eyes out everytime. It could be a sunny day and i'll cry if I see it
The fresh Prince of Bel Air scene was more than acting
Will's monologue in that scene was improv
What was it then?
Unfortunately, I have LIVED that scene, in reality. Sixty years of age, and, now that he's gone, I will NEVER know.............WHY?
Will actually improved that scene, half of his ending monologue wasn’t scripted, including the last line and uncle Phil wasn’t supposed to hug him, tears real and everything
@@royjackson872 you know why...because he was an idiot who helped make something he didnt understand
I mean i didn’t cry until I heard

Also here *hands you a extra box of tissues*

Thank God for Uncle Phil.
What time was it at
Chandler Bing always cracking jokes even when he's laying in a hospital bed.
@Frank 💀💀
@Frank oh my god yes 🤣🤣
LMAO
Could there BE anymore internal bleeding?
Not good I loved his show😎😍
Uncle Phil absolutely loved Will & was an excellent role model. He was Will's father better than (not all) biological fathers.
Leilani Ku'uipo I agree, there's a difference between dads and biological fathers. One is family and one is just a relative.
Certainly better than Will's biological father
I agree with all of you. I have been blessed to have two men better then my biological father. My first foster dad and my step dad.
First things first rest in peace Uncle Phil for real, you the only father that I ever knew
@@avilik13 Sometimes there's nobody better.
I really liked the Fresh Prince episode, but I loved the Roseanne scene where Dan doesn't say anything he just quietly walks out the door and you know exactly where he's going.
@ Nicholas Smith- I loved that scene too! Men who beat on women are bullies and cowards! They can't hold their own against a REAL man. Every woman should be so lucky to have a man like Dan in their life.
Me and my mom did a little happy dance when we realized Dan beat the s*it out of jackie's boyfriend. We love watching that show together.
exactly
But then they came and arrested him because the woman beater pressed charges!
lurch321 I believe so.
When Dan just quietly grabs his coat and walks out the door, that makes me so happy every time I see it.
Love that
I remember being a teenager and cheering in my house when he walked out.
Yes! I wish someone would have kicked my abusive ex-husband's ass!
Dan is a Papa Wolf, no question there, when he is loud you're usually okay, when he is quiet, start praying God finds you before he does!
I remember and thought that was pretty cool too.
The saddest part is that these are actual things that people go through
I think that is why they get portrayed with more seriousness. After all, sitcoms are kinda neat to reflect life in a comedic way.
yeah
@@MrGabeanator Agreed .My favorite and the one's I remembered more clearly was Mash/ chicken and Prince of Bel-Air. I remember from back in the day Will Smith really did have both Parents present and he really grew up in North Philadelphia. His parents owned a house there.

Yes, J.Cole!!!
No child, man or woman, should ever have to ask the question, “why didn’t my parents want me?” That scene with will smith got to me on a spiritual level
August Serena I know. I cried ❤️
I couldn't agree more! Planned or unplanned, it is STILL your flesh and blood! How can anyone simply discard one's own blood?? Very few human crimes are as unfathomable as this one!
I wonder that now and iam 33 that pain never leaves..
I am 41 and still feel that same pain. My dad only wanted me when it was convenient for him. I buried him in 2001 and even gave the eulogy at his funeral. Very hard to talk good about someone who was hardly ever in my life. I was however lucky enough to have a stepfather that I called my dad.
Yeah Will Smith actually cried behind scenes on that episode
Dan walking out of the house to beat up Fisher is still badass.
Fisher deserve every bit of that
Thank God I'm not the only guy watching this.
"Did you kill him and go buy chicken?"
I love how the cops handle it to. So funny.
Dan going after him was one of the most real reactions that I've ever seen on a sit-com.
It's no wonder Will Smith is so good at playing vulnerable. To this day I can't watch 'Pursuit of Happiness'. It makes me happy and breaks my heart at the same time. He's that good and believable.
Lolita Bridges that is one movie on my list of “one and done”
Yes he is, whenever he does a scene like this it always makes me cry.
Frank no it is one of the best films ever made tho
I had to watch that in junior high. Man, everyone was crying for that movie. The scene in the Subway bathroom always gets me
Lolita Bridges "Seven Pounds" is a *phenomenal* movie. One of the most powerful/emotional movies ever made, and Will Smith is absolutely amazing in it.
The hug with uncle Phil was actually ad-libbed. James Avery actually broke character and embraced Will Smith thanks to the pure emotion
Knowing that it wasn't in the script, the hug between Will and Phil is all the more heartwarming!😥💖
I didn't know that. And because I know that now, this scene is even better
Wills reaction was all monologue and freak out was improved.
Ashleigh Tompkins That’s actually a myth, sorry to say.
Oh ok
The scene where Will gets shot and Carlton buys a gun out of fear is also a really dark Fresh Prince moment
That should have gotten an honorable mention. Mojo countdowns often suck and are way off base especially the ones on sports. However this list is maybe one of the better ones in last couple of years MOJO has made.
Or the one where Carlton OD's on Will's pills. Or when Phil had a heart attack and Carlton refused to go see him. Those were both pretty dark and very powerful as well.
Not only that when Will opens the chamber and the bullets came out made you realise Carlton was serious and Will breaks down
Eh, they can't add every single dark moment from every single sitcom. More than likely they felt they should add only one dark moment from each sitcom that was shown. Also, viewers on their website vote on what's in the countdowns and what their places are.
Either way it was a good countdown. Each one of those were very dark.
Yet somehow the Hack writers treat being a gun owner as a bad thing even more regretful conclusion.
The death of John Ritter and Will smith breaking down still brings a tear to my eye. I really miss John Ritter
montel4eva he was such a good actor. He made 8 simple rules. So missed
I don't miss Ritter....I miss Jack!!
What JR brought to our lives truly was magical. LITERALLY was watching season 6 of Three's Company day before yesterday lol.
Three's company was one of the greatest sitcoms ever
Problem Child 1 n 2
You can't miss someone you didn't know though. Sure, you can be really sad about their death - but miss??? That's only for your close ones. Trust me.
STEPHANIE: What What happened to Charles if we report it?
Uncle Jesse: What will happen to Charles if we don’t?

Fresh Prince had a bunch of deeply emotional storylines.
Like when Carlton mistook drugs for vitamins in Wills locker... Will had an incredible speech in that one too... I'm surprised it wasn't in there
Uncle Phil having a heart attack, them being robbed, the kitchen catching fire( that sounds more possible on Home Improvement) Will getting shot
I know that's right
@@megaddams2374 or that time will got shot for Carlton
Like the last 2 episodes of the show
Fresh prince was very real and heartfelt
Holly ludlow legend has it that the voice of a weep that you hear in that scene at the very end was the actress who played hilary crying
I surprised that they didn't do the gun shooting episode.
mevan883 totally could have. Or the one Phil goes to the hospital
Holly ludlow he had the BIGGEST heart. So did uncle Phil. Aunt viv, followed by the youngest son and daughter. Then the oldest daughter, then Carlton. Even the butler had a heart
I cried everytime that episode came on. And I cried even more when he said, "Why he don't want me, man??" Not joking. I'd literally be curled up on the couch crying my eyes out..
The 80s & 90s "very special episodes" struck a nerve because of its rarity. Nowadays there's so much gritty realism in today's shows that we're not nearly as moved. Perhaps it's because we've been desensitized to it because it's the norm now.
Koldeman sadly true
Gritty realism in a way, but I dare you to find anything more real or gritty than "Edith's 50th birthday".

That scene made will Smith in to a seriously good actor
Jhardwork Pays off
Adlibed the entire scene on the spot even though in real life will grew up with a father gets me everytime
TBH, it made me tear up.
I still don't know what made me cry more; Will's angry sad rant, Uncle Phil consoling him or the camera moving to the sculpture of Father and Child Will had bought for his so called father.
the moment when Uncle Phil hugs him, I always think he is silently saying to Will: I WILL be your father from now on!
Jhardwork Pays off this scene will forever make me cry 😭
Will’s voice cracking when he yelled “To hell with him” and Uncle Phil quickly embracing him always makes me get the tissues.
I know, right? Because no child deserves that pain.
The one where the woman killed her own baby just hit different, never seen the series but I honestly felt like crying when I saw that scene now
I love that Dan, who can’t stand Jackie, immediately leaves to go beat the fuck out of Fisher. That was awesome. When he grabbed his jacket and walked out you knew it was on.
One thing that confused me about that episode is that if Fisher has already told Jackie whenever he gets angry then she just has to walk away. Why did she continue? I'm not saying that she deserved it for not listening, because what your gender is, nobody deserves being in a domestic abusive relationship. Yes, I've tried looking it up, but all I've gotten was mostly websites about "Why do women get mad for no reason", "Why men walks away from relationships," etc...
@@christinalittleton2242 ive never been in that situation but i feel like people are probably just too attached. when they get told to just walk away they might feel bad for leaving or feel like they have to be there for someone who they would be so much better without. sucks that men and women are both so vulnerable to it but when you feel you kove someone i imagine it must be hard to distance yourself, especially if you depend on them for some other reason (like if the abuser is also the parent of the victim's child or if they depend on them financially due to having previously been in a bad situation) btw i hope that makes sense, its difficult to phrase.
yeah when i first saw that episode i actually yelled 'YES!!!" when Dan just doesn't say a damn word and leaves.
@@christinalittleton2242 I'm assuming you mean why did she not walk away when he got angry to avoid being beaten? Several answers I think. One, just in general, abusers get angry over everything and nothing so basically what might start as a harmless situation can quickly pivot into one where they are angry and the person might not have had time to realize the danger.
Two, Jackie's personality was such that she was the type to push back, argue etc... now over time he probably would have abused and traumatized that out of her but even though she logically knew she shouldn't push, she couldn't help it. It's the way some people are mouthy and sarcastic even when they know it's going to get them in trouble. People get killed over situations where they should have just walked away instead of arguing or fighting but for a lot people, their natural reaction is to push back.
Three, and perhaps most importantly. The cake is a lie. In other words, he would have abused her no matter what she did, so it doesn't matter really why she didn't try not to make him angry. Cook the wrong thing for dinner, sure, talk to a neighbor, sure, someone else made him angry that day? sure. For abusers, any reason is a reason and the idea that if you were just better, quieter, neater, et... then you wouldn't get hit is just another way that they fuck with the mind of their victims. It puts the onus on them to not be abused, instead of the abuser not to abuse them.
One thing that will probably be in my mind until I die is the diary of Gizzell Ford, a little girl whose father and grandmother murdered her after years of torture and abuse. She would write about how she was going to be so, so good so she wouldn't get punished, and then when she was still abused, feel like she failed.
@@christinalittleton2242 Because guys like that look for reasons to get angry and lash out. I saw my Dad do it to my Mom, my brother or myself. He could go from calm to abusive in under 60 seconds, and blame the other person because they didn't realize he was angry.
man I miss the days when sitcoms can be both funny and dark
Mom is a current sitcom that does both pretty well. The basic premise is about a group of recovering alcoholics and drug-addicts, so there's some dark story-lines related to what their lives were like before they were sober, and issues related to relapse. But they also cover things like parental abandonment, teen pregnancy, and unexpected deaths. And, it's genuinely funny, too. And when it does get dark, it doesn't treat it as a "very special episode' like most of these do. It's more akin to MASH, where it weaves the 2 together seamlessly.
Dude the tv show Scrubs was on this list. You’re not watching the right shows.
Brooklyn 99
Yeah when kids were allowed to think for themselves and be introduced to this. Now parents want the shows to be censored and dumb down.
@@filmfangirls9163 parents always been this way but now its the worst bcuz its like they censor critical thinking and say okay to all the dumbed down mainstream shit.
Oh poor Edith. She always reminded me of my grandma and that episode was so hard to watch.
The episode afterward was very emotional as well when Gloria was trying to get Edith to identify the man who attempted to rape her.
That episode made my dad cry due to his mom was raped by knifepoint . He was ours old and walked in from school . Found his dog with throat slit. And his mom crying in bedroom. He ran and got a neighbor and neighbor shot the asshole dead .
@@jennieinmichigan4233 Oh my god, that's horrible...
I can literally relate to the Fresh Prince scene where he asks why his father doesn’t want him. I grew up with a dad who didn’t want me. He always had time and would do things with my two older brothers but he pretended I didn’t exist.
He would tell everyone that I wasn’t his kid. He has never lived more than 5 minutes away from me in my whole life, but I can count on my two hands the times I’ve seen him in the 36 years I’ve been alive.
I’m not sad about it anymore. I’m done wishing he cared. I’m stronger and better off without him.
the same thing with my mom but sometimes she visits
Damn man I'm sorry, hold your chin up man, just a stranger here wishing you the best
I grew up with a mom that didn't really want me. So this hurts.
Maybe he wasn’t your biological dad?
My half sister went through something very similar with her own father he has never had time for her and to tell you the truth I think she is better off without him.
Will's dad leaving is memorable for the culture.
Simone Umba I still can't watch it without crying. 😥😢
Some people dont know it but that scene wasn't scriped. That was really will Smith asking why is real dad didn't want him. So it was so heartbreaking because it was real.
Actually that's a rumour. Will's real dad didn't leave him and was supportive of him and his career. Will said he was emotional in that scene because he recalled how his friends felt when their dad's left.
Infinity Stones not really. my father was white and he left when i was a child. it’s not black culture.
Infinity Stones Any dad can walk out on their family as shown by Sebastian Casillas thankfully My Father hasn't left in fact he is a hard worker very exhausted man he works so much (I'm black)

@@HUMC4L Damn, I'm sorry to hear that your mom had to experience that
HUMC4L This might sound a bit insensitive, but I honestly think your mom is better off. She doesn’t need anything that toxic in her life. And since the deadbeat dad left, she didn’t end up getting abused by him, right? Again, sorry if I seem insensitive.
They forgot the one where Janet Jackson's character gets burned with the iron.
Good Times. She played penny
Omg and she’s pleading with her mom not to do it 😢
You're right. They could easily add a Part 2 and Part 3 to this "Top 10 Darkest Sitcom Moments" series.
What show?
@Mia Fine: Good Times.
“How come he don’t want me?” I watched that part a million of times and I cried watching it this time💔
The Golden Girls had some dark moments. Rose getting tested for HIV, Rose being addicted to pain meds, Blanch taking care of her teacher who sexually assaulted her, the list goes on.
Oh, yes. The season five episode "Not Another Monday" was really upsetting because it dealt with the issues of death and assisted suicide.
The episode where Phil dies and Sophia starts crying and saying "My baby is gone." always breaks me down.
And when Blanche dated a verbally abusive man
I know right, I love how they always tackled that stuff with humor and Grace. I also liked the episode where Blanche was in an abusive relationship and she got out before it got too bad. I'm a domestic violence Survivor myself so I could see that that was just the beginning of it. But I'm glad they handled that so well and I like how Dorothy said most people have to hit rock bottom before they get out. Good episode. I think it was called the bloom is off the rose.
@@braithvii I know right. That one gets me everytime too. I'm glad how she was such a good mother and loved her kids regardless. I felt that same pain when my dad left my mom and brother and sister for another woman. I even asked that question at night sometimes when I had to cry myself to sleep thinking about him. God he's such a great actor! 😭
The scene from Fresh Prince was just so sad. Knowing Will Smith let out his real life emotions out throughout the scene made it even more raw.
It's not tho
@Amiyah Johnson
No u
This is a misconception that Will took it from his experience. He didn't have such family problems as his character.
Dans reaction to Jackies abuse is amazing! That episode made me cry. Abuse victims always find a way to blame themselves. ALWAYS
It's because we're taught to blame ourselves by perpetrators of abuse, and a system that lays the blame at our feet. It takes years to unlearn that kind of negative condition. Years of self love, belief, awareness. It's hard work.
*"How come he don't want me, man?"*

I like how the audience reacted when Dan walked out they knew he was going to whoop some Ass
The Full House episode is actually the first time I ever heard of domestic abuse:( I was 8 and confused. I spoke to my parents about and they told me it did happen. I'm sorry... Fresh Prince should be #1
Omg... every black child growing up in Philly, hell in the hood, felt his pain! Why he didn't want me? Damn
I think All in the Family and the MASH scenes were darker because they were completely unexpected....and gave me nightmares.
I would agree that Fresh Prince definitely had more of an emotional impact, but it was not darker subject matter than the ones ahead of it. The absent father and wondering why a father does not want to be apart of a childs life is nothing compared to sexual assault of minors, pedophilia, and violent assault and potential rape. So I think the list was pretty accurate.
It's a hard sceen for me even to this day. I remember growing up with my grandparents and Todd would come over at random and start telling me all of these things. Telling me he was going to take me places and all.. then three hours later be off again with me at the door wondering what I did wrong. I wrote him and Tara both off because an absent parent doesn't get to be called Mom or Dad, cause they ain't one.
Philly Scorpio I’m not from philly but my dad never been in my life I know his name and that’s it he hasn’t shown up out of 11 years because when I was one he wasn’t there sadly
I was a white kid growing in Virginia Beach and felt this too.. I always wished my Dad wanted me growing up. Took 21 years for us to re-connect
"How come he dont want me, man?"
This hits me right in the heart. My first borns biological father isnt involved in his life; a choice he made from the moment I told him I was pregnant with him.
I dread the day I have to tell him the truth about him (hes 3 years old and it's not something he will understand) and I just hope he doesnt feel the same that Will did here. My fiance has been in his life since he was 11 months old and as far as he is concerned he is his father. But I know I need to tell him the truth.
Not-so-fun fact: Will Smith’s breakdown scene was not acting. While something like that was scripted, the tears and pain were real. Will, the real life actor, had gone through a similar situation with his own father, so when he breaks down he is reflecting on this. When Uncle Phil hugs Will it is a real hug meant to comfort him. *Now, go watch it again*
Actually, that statement is false. Will Smith’s parents may have been divorced but his father was very caring and still made a impact in his life. The tears and emotion actually came from Will trying so hard getting James Avery’s approval for his performance. But in that moment him ranting that he’ll get along without his father just fine, he actually brought him to the point of tears. Then ad libing “How come he don’t want me, man?” James Avery brought him in with that hug, making him cry for the first time on camera in his career and whispering in his ear: “That’s f**king acting right there”.
Yea that was a myth but he definitely acted his behind off

It's not just the line of dialogue, for me, but it's the very real and raw emotion portrayed by Smith.
@@DT-hp8de tear up? I bawl my eyes out.
It breaks my heart knowing that the scene with Will’s monologue about his dad was adlibbed and came from a real dark place 😔😢💔
That's actually a myth. In an interview earlier this year Will Smith actually explained that all that emotion was frustration from James Avery pushing him (in a good way) to be a better actor.
Still a fantastic scene.
I sadly can say I watched “The Secret Life of The American Teenager” which was a terrible show, but the episode where Adrian’s baby was born stillborn broke me. I didn’t know what that meant. And then I learned it happens a lot of the time and often the cause for it is unknown. A friend of mine lost her baby like that at 33 weeks and it was heartbreaking.
Fresh Prince. Well performed. Really deep.
Neh-Bih Sangbong Yeah
And relatable
Neh-Bih Sangbong true I cried buckets when I saw that episode
Some of the best acting in history.
that scene wasn’t scripted
THE moment in Boy Meets World when Shawn breaks down after Chet is hospitalized? That and when Shawn cries his heart out after Turner's accident! I know not every moment could be put in this video but Boy Meets World had some genuine heartfelt moments which will forever remain embedded in my memory!
Also, the episode where Josh was born prematurely kicked me right in the gut.
And when the weird dude tried to make him join the cult
Yep!
Also Shawn becoming an Alcoholic after a night of Drinking with Corey
Ok but where is “Profiler, Profiled” from Criminal Minds? Derek reveals he was molested and confronts the man.
Anne The Elf not a sitcom.
@@laurennelson8636 actually along with being a crime show it is a sitcom
@@themaskedunicorn905 it's not a sitcom
These are sitcoms.
5:00 Growing Pains scene -- that was amazingly well done, and for once they didn't treat it as a one-off episode. Several episodes later, Carole started dating a much older man, and by the end of the show her parents realized that she was still traumatized by Sandy's death.
I think the episode where everyone mourns the death of the real actor should have been higher up because they were all actually grieving
Laura McCarthy I was expecting this to be higher as well. I would also have included the death of Howards mother in the big bang theory, since the voice actress portraying her died as well.
shut up
Michelle D. F. S. Lol what
yeah laura, ritters should of been number 1
I didn’t like how this video narrator states, “ he was written off of the show”. He was dead.
Another dark fresh prince of bell air episode is when uncle Phil has a heart attack due to his eating problems and Carlton does compulsive cleaning because he's scared to see his dad die.
Or when Will and Carlton get arrested for driving while black. and he asked uncle Phil if he would stop them for going to slow. its so hardcore/
Or when Will and Carlton are robbed at gunpoint and then Carlton goes and buys a gun. The scene at the end in the hospital of that episode gets me every time.
I didn't even realize that Matthew Perry was on Growing Pains. That was one of my favorite shows.
Will's father leaving and Edith breaking down in Archie's arms always makes me shed a tear. Both of their performances are so good, it seems real.
I think M*A*S*H ptsd scene should have been higher up. The way he blocks out the memory by forcing himself to remember the baby as a crowing chicken. Its not until much later on once he has been beaten and broken by the war to the point that he can no longer fight the PTSD on his own that he has to face the fact that the mother was holding a child and not a chicken, and killed her own baby after his angry outburst. He held onto that for so long without confronting the real truth he went insane. In my opinion thats the most tragic moment in this list. I think it should have been higher. It pulled no punches and was raw and from the heart. No jokes, no distractions. Just pain and suffering.
Drop the snap
They could do a list of 10 Darkest M*A*S*H moments and have a ton of material.
All In The Family was the first show to show it wasn't all sweetess and light in the sitcom family world. You would have never seen Harriet Nelson with bruises after Ozzie came home after a few too many at the bar, or June Cleaver with her pearls ripped off her neck after a rapists' attack, much less the aftermath...yet those things happened in the 1950s but no one talked about them, They were the "family secret".
Roberta K sadly you're absolutely right about that
That sort of thing did happen back in the 50's and was never discussed in public and more often than not was considered "The Family Secret"
Even some well known celebrities who were born back then and were in families that went through this back in those days, if they'd wrote a book on their Life, and this were revealed to be present in that celebrity's childhood, it was shocking to people who are fans of this person
Wait so your saying in the episode, the mother kills her baby BECAUSE the man screams at her??? Sorry I haven't seen the show so I'm just wondering.
Leslie Knope keep in mind: The show MASH is set during the Korean war
In the scene they're describing, Dr Benjamin "Hawkeye" Pierce, is on a bus transporting injured Korean war refugees right through an area where there's heavy combat going on and when he made his angry outburst, be it's because he didn't want that noise to draw any enemy gunfire
I would have added the episode of That's So Raven where Raven didn't get a job because she's Black. Sure it had funny moments. but still serious.
steven alvarez yeah that was the darkest any Disney Channel show has gone !
agreed. that moment still makes me so sad
So true. I guess they didn't add it because it didn't have a character die or molested.
Ace ok
African Queen I liked his comment
That MASH scene killed me as a kid. Sobbed for days.
One moment I would have included is from the Boy Meets World Season Four Episode “Dangerous Secret” where Shawn is hiding a friend at his trailer while his parents are away because her father is abusing her. It’s powerful because while at first Shawn’s way of dealing with the situation is not the right way in the end he makes the right choice and given that he was at most sixteen during all of this that’s a lot of heavy stuff to have to deal with that young. Something the episode doesn’t really acknowledge though is that Shawn’s parents have left their teenage son by himself while they’re off traveling so not only does the episode deal with child abuse it also indirectly touches on child abandonment.
*Saved By The Bell*
"I'm _SO_ Excited!
I'm _SO_ Excited!
I'm SO... _SCARED!"_
😭😭😭😢
Oh yeah that was a good one
SOOOOOO cheesy. It gave me a good laugh.
bad actress though =(
Its im so confused
Fresh Prince yes! It truly was depressing, Will and Phillip had such a good relationship.
Labyyy I love their relationship.
I don't think they had the best relationship. Mainly, in part, due to the fact that Phillip would assume things about Will instead of seeing him fully as a person. He's just a kidd.
Sandy’s death on “Growing Pains” should be WAAY higher because he actually died. I still remember the day that I saw that episode. It was in the wee hours of April 21, 2016. Later that morning Prince died. The title of that episode is “Second Chance.” Unfortunately, we don’t always get one.
John Ritter on “8 Simple Rules” that episode killed me. I loved watching him growing up
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air episode showed the dramatic talents of both Will Smith and James Avery. My other two favorite dramatic episodes of the Fresh Prince was, the episode when Will was held up at gun point and shot, and the other was when Carlton nearly overdosed on drugs (speed) he mistakenly thought were aspirin, he got from Will's locker, that Will got from kids at their school. There were very dramatic scenes in both episodes. I remember watching the Episode when Edith was sexually assaulted, I was about 11 or 12 when I saw that episode, and it was shocking, it seemed so real. The darkest moments in sitcoms, but they were all real-life issues that needed to be addressed.
They weren't from kids it was from his friend
Rest in peace John Ritter, Carroll Oconner, Jean Stapleton, Dixie Carter, thank you for all the joy and laughter you brought into our homes, you are missed, also thank you to Michael J Fox for making Alex P Keaton so lovable, I'm praying for a cure to Parkinson's, hopefully in time to help you and so many more afflicted by this horrible disease..
“how come he don’t want me, man” most powerful quote in any sitcom
It's powerful for sure, but ''the most''??? Don't think so.
personally the scene in The Fresh Prince when Will tells the family that the pills were his that almost killed Carlton gets me more than his father leaving, cause yeah his father leaving is fucked up but that was in a way expected after him being gone most of his life the episode where Will has pills to stay awake and Carlton accidently overdose and almost dies only shows that it can happen to anyone even if you don't expected and shows the real danger of drugs and someone getting in the middle of it.
POPINCONEJO88 Oh I forgot about that episode! Also the one where Will gets shot and Carlton buys a gun to protect himself.
Ms.gshunw to me number 1 is the pull episode, 2 is wills leaving, 3 the gun episode and 4 when uncle Phil gets a heart attack
POPINCONEJO88 nawww the dad part is always number one because of the performance by Will Smith and the subject matter that affects a lot of American youths.
Agreed! and I say the episode where will gets Shot and Carlton buys a gun was too real too, and the Saved by the Bell SAT episode was similar to the episode you commented about
That is true those two episodes will always remain in my mind the two times the Fresh Prince got real.
That look on Uncle Phil’s face when Will says “you aren’t my father” is heartbreaking. Even knowing Will realizes his mistake in the end.
This was a good list. I had forgotten about these episodes. Thanks for sharing. They were good shows.
Dr cox losing it deserves more than a honourable mention. That was an amazing scene! Got me big time
The Fresh Prince episode gets me every time 😢😭😭
Scrubs only an honourable mention? A bunch of patients dying from Rabies due to a contaminated donor? That's pretty dark. Should be high on the list.
A donor who had been in the series before too. It was fucking heartbreaking
What episode was that?
@@cathrinetiemann4557 My Lunch, Season 5.20 and My Fallen Idol, Season 5.21
Yes!! Also Scrubs had some REALLY heartbreaking scenes and almost all include Dr. Cox.
It's on another list
The way Uncle Phil immediately pulls Will into a hug after he asks why he doesn't want him just makes me bawl. It reads so clearly as "I want you. We want you."
Fresh Prince and Full House will always make me tear up. I think that Shawn from Boy Meets World should be in here too though. The Thanksgiving episode when Cory's family wasn't welcome because of their differences and Shawn's father dying, Eric during many moments in the episode where he was Santa, Shawn taking care of the girl that was being abused by her dad. The show had some real dark moments
Gotta Disagree with the Fresh Prince one.
The one where Will gets shot, and Carlton buys a gun is far darker.
MrBandorr say what?! What episode is that?!
Season 5 episode 15 "Bullets over Bel-Air". Will smith acting is some of the best he has ever done.
When I saw that Fresh Prince was on here, I thought it would be either his father leaving or the gun episode. Also the one where Carlton takes Speed could've been on here too
No it’s not.
MrBandorr Jah when you do those type of scenes you really have to dig deep into yourself
Boy Meets World had a load of Dark episodes and themes as well. Plus Smart Guy had a couple too.
BroScouts nope smart guy was not dark enough
Attie Pollard how about the episode where TJ and his friend go to a photo shoot that happens to be a pedos basement?
BroScouts hold on never seen that episode
BroScouts but how was the execution of that subject?
Attie Pollard I thought it was quite shocking to be honest. But it is just my opinion
Will's scene was outstanding. Even before I watched Fresh Prince beginning to end, before I knew the characters, that scene made me cry.
All In The Family was one of the best shows ever created. They dealt with so many dark topics but didn’t make it ruin any of the characters
I gained a new level of respect for Laurie Metcalf as an actress in this same episode as I loved John Goodman's Dan Connor when we saw Dan quietly leave , we all knew he was coming for Fisher . This episode also gave me my favorite Roseann line " Dan , don't tell me you punched Fisher and then got Chicken did you ? " , funniest line ever .
No I got the chicken first.
"What did he say?" "It was something like ow, ow, my head. . ."
Sammy Lane the Dan Connor reminds me so much of my dad. Specially that episode. Dad would have done the same thing. Dan did to Jackie's ex boyfriend or worse. Hell my dad punched a nun ( who was my principal in the face)( the nun beat me up and broke both my hands and wrists because she hated me cause I im jewish. I went to the school due to it was a block from home and small and not a public Detroit school)
OMG. You just made me realise Sheldons mother is in Roseanne
I thought Metcalf should have won Best Supporting Actress for "Lady Bird".
You've gotta respect the shows when they do this, it takes a lot of bravery to focus on serious issues like these
How quickly we forget about James Evans Sr from good times dying
Damn, damn, damn!
Or their neighbor eating dog food
Or the old man who died new year's Eve
@@clemmiebell8319 yes I remember those episodes too, so sad, I recall elderly people eating dog food because that’s all they could afford
In that same episode of All in the Family, when Gloria is arguing with Edith over Edith’s reluctance to go to the police station to identify her attacker, while Archie and Meathead helplessly watch the exchange, is a bit of an acting clinic that, for me, is even more dramatic than the assault itself.
All around, the entire story was an uncomfortable but incredible display of acting and writing talent.
BTW, if an episode of Family Ties was to be included, it should have been “My Name is Alex”, the one where Alex is dealing with the death of a close friend in a car accident.
Alex turned down a chance to help his friend, and thus was not in the accident. Naturally, Alex is dealing with Survivor’s Guilt and questioning everything.
The show went darkest near the end of the first half when he melted down in the kitchen. I still tear up when recalling his parents coming into the kitchen and his Dad wrapping him in a hug when he breaks down. Again, an uncomfortable yet incredible display of talent and writing.
Man: *touches butt*

Staplers Break yeah nowadays people wouldn’t laugh.
At least I don’t think.

M*A*S*H* with those scenes about the chicken being smothered on the bus and then it turning out to be something else finally, in Hawkeyes mind, made a big impact on me. He was always the solid character who held it together ultimately and here he did not. Those scenes, about that situation, were fantastic drama.
I always thought that scene was from the first episode of the short lived After MASH. I still don't recall ever seeing the final episode of MASH, so perhaps AM used it as well, as a flashback.
It was her baby she smothered her own baby which is just heartbreaking.
@@abramsullivan7764 yes. I didn't want to do a spoiler. Yes, the odds that online would read my comment, who hadn't already seen it, and then would see it - are incredibly unlikely. ☺

No "DAMN DAMN DAMN" from Good Times. Such a sad and powerful moment
After Roseanne tells Dan about how Fisher beat the crap out of Jackie, the way Dan just grabbed his coat and walked out the door was one of my favorite scenes in the series. Followed by the infamous "oh my God...you didn't kill him and then go buy chicken did you?". Love John Goodman❤
That episode was one of my favorites!
