It was kind of hard to rank these because I believe all these episodes and specials are important. And please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying one issue is more important than another. I just want to compile a list of episodes that bravely and unapologetically tackled serious issues that I'm sure some of us may have went through or have experienced. I really hope some of them have helped you, or if there's a different show/episode that did, let me know in the comments down below. Thank you for 500K !! :) Much love, and more content to come. blameitonjorge dude why is the smart guy episode with the pedophile not on this list? that was an amazing well done episode on how to deal with those people
I remember being showed “why Charlie brown Why?“ when I was first diagnosed with leukemia. It helped me understand what it was and that I would get better. I owe a lot of my hope to Charlie brown and Linus.
Hi. I also had leukemia. I know how hard it is and I know how hopeless it feels. But I just wanted to say that I'm so glad that you made it. And thank you for sharing.
Remember that episode where Helga’s dad had to spend time with her and he knew nothing about her and what she liked? Yeah they definitely didn’t care about my Helga at all and I actually felt bed
The only people to be mad at are her parents Olaga likes her. Her parents know almost know almost nothing about her at least Helga's mom knows her name. Her dad neglects her and chooses TV over his own DAUGTER!!
Ok, literally, Charlie Brown always looks and acts like he has depression. It’s really sad to watch the show and think about how Charlie might have depression.
I really want to like this comment but its at 665 likes and i dont want to make this beautiful comment have the devils number (I know its just a number but it still uneases me for some reason) Please reply to this reply when i can like it :)
You didn't mention how in "Why, Charlie Brown, why?" Linus' security blanket is conspicuous by its absence throughout the entire show. It was a constant comedy element in the Charlie Brown stories, and its absence was just one deliberate indicator of how seriously the show took the subject of cancer.
Christopher Sanchez He’s saying that the people who made the show took the subject so seriously that they decided not to have one of the Peanut’s main jokes in the show.
It shows that Linus cares more about his friend getting better than him having his blanket, which it's difficult for him to live without it. It's really cute 😊
When I was younger, about 3, my mother was diagnosed with skin cancer and got it removed. I didn't know why she needed surgery until about a few years ago
It's good that TV shows deal with serious subjects that should be dealt with, and not avoided like the plague. Kids need to know these problems and how to deal with them before they also encounter such issues, so they are prepared for their future and feel secure.
HiddenTV agreed I was never fully taught the concept of death as a child or ever really so when my brother died I repressed everything into myself and eventually snapped... I wish I knew better
The thing is, a lot of children in the world DO deal with serious problems. Death, abuse, depression, bullying, drugs, etc are things children often experience too. So it's good when a cartoon touches on these subjects and gives positive advice, and should be something seen more often imo.
And they also need them explained differently depending on their age and stage of brain development. A ten year old is capable of understanding things better than a four year old and will react differently than one too. Episodes like this should be made in shows for all ages. Of course, not to extreme measures. You don't want to cause anxiety. Usually though all that's needed is a happy ending and some reassurance that everything will be alright.
Woah. I never expected this much attention. x3 But it feels good to see that people have similar opinions to mine, and that I'm not the only person thinking this.
I actually remember watching that Charlie Brown episode in elementary school. One of the kids in my class was diagnosed with Leukemia, and as a way to help us understand it and what he was going through, the teachers in our grade showed us this. Now, graduated from college, he has managed to beat Leukemia twice! 💜
When they describe Mr. Hoopers death, it was like the future episode when Elmo wanted to play baseball but he couldn’t because (I don’t remember there name) died, Elmo didn’t understand. I’d say Sesame Street actually is teaching a lot of kids different things, like divorce, death, austim, foster kids, incarcerated, and etc. I think it’s really nice what they’re doing :)
@@greenleaf37 I know but like...Squidward is always saying stuff like "too bad that didn't kill me" or "I wonder if a jump this high would be enough to kill me". I was just wondering if it's a message.
@@user-bu7ds6wn7d Maybe it is, I have always felt weird whenever he says that, but unfortunately, it's never treated the way it should be as Spongebob is mostly a comedy show and Squidward's suicidal personality is a recurrent joke...
I was shown “Why Charlie Brown why “ in like 1st or 2nd grade because one of my best friends was diagnosed with leukemia. After they finished showing us the film, they brought my best friend in and said that she had the sickness talked about in the show. I started crying my eyes out. Rest In Peace, Lia ❤️
Helga's parents doesn't want her to "blab to some shrink". That's basically a parent forcing their child to hide the abuse their dealing with from a social worker, isn't it?
I can confirm that a parent saying to not blab about their family basically means that. I had an abusive parent, both emotionally and psychologically. I wasn't able to tell anyone because I genuinely thought every parent was supposed to be like that.
i'm sorry to hear that Naseeb, i've been through the same experience. i suggest you seek out r/raisedbynarcissists because that community has some great information and is very supportive.
Sounds about right. I got sent to counseling a few times for my "agressive tendencies". Nobody got to the reason why I was being "aggressive" since I was being beaten with a belt 5-6 times a week and warned not to tell anyone about it.
"AIDS is a terrible epidemic plaguing our world, but two things makes it even worse: ignorance and fear" - Captain Planet So why didn't people follow the same advice when we're currently dealing with the COVID-19 Pandemic?
The Peanuts special “Why, Charlie Brown, Why?” was in a way foreshadowing the very illness that would claim the life of their creator, Charles M. Schulz in February of 2000.
I'd hire the poor dear out of pity, alone, and ask her, "Is there a name you want to be called, for short? Like Andi Or Mel? Then, when she earned enough money, she could change her name to something she wanted.
Melanie Draws my elementary recess monitor got breast cancer (her husband had cancer too) a few years ago but beat cancer. I personally know how hard it was to lose a relative to cancer. I lost my paternal grandmother to pancreatic cancer in 2007 when I was four and my maternal grandfather died after a nine month battle of lung cancer in 2012 when I was ten . My paternal grandfather died before I was born and my maternal grandmother is still alive to this day. Anyway, I think Arthur and Charlie Brown were great at showing us how cancer affects relationships. I love how they do it.
does anyone remember that episode of full house when stephanie was partners with a guy that was abused at his house and when he would always say that he fell down the stairs and he told stephanie not to tell anyone and then uncle jesse called child services on him. oh my god that episode was SO SAD.
There was also one where Dj. Fuller wanted to go with her friends to a pull party and she had to wear a bikini, but she felt as if she wasn't fit enough (Just like a model) so she stopped eating and when she went to a gym she fainted because of starvation.
TikTok: hippity hoppity this sad moment is now my property! It's really annoying to see TikTok use that episode when it was supposed to be very serious.
I feel like we need more shows that talk about these types of things; such as racial issues, mental health, family related issues, and so on. Kids need to know these things so they can’t go into the world blind, but instead have some kind of knowledge about it. Especially mental health, because of how people avoid talking about it like you’ll instantly die if you so much as think about it.
I would like that, especially about mental health, I feel like kids should know about those types of things, along with people who judge people of who they are (like racism, homophobia and so on) so they know that you don't need to be ashamed of who you are, and that it's okay to be you
That is true. Kids need to learn about the truth. However, what they also need is to learn how to be happy and to understand how important it is to feel that way. Not just to talk about bad vibes.
There was another remarkable show like that in the late 1950s: The Rifleman. Lucas McCain is raising his son after his wife died in the Old West and he tackles life's issues with him. It even spoke out against racism and ethnic hatred. Some of the episodes are truly beautiful.
When ever I think about Mr. Rodgers I always think about that time some gangster stole his car, found out who’s car it was, and gave it back I always loved that story
The funny thing is, people thought that I changed my name to Roger because of him. I actually changed it to that because of the “Rent” character Roger Davis.
I had cancer when I was only 6 years old. The doctors showed me the Charlie Brown episode and it was my first time watching Charlie Brown. It felt so relatable and the ending made me hopeful that I would out of treatment one day. I’m serious, everything in this episode is real and not over exaggerated. Kids made fun of me for being bald and I was isolated by other kids when they heard I had cancer. It’s all real. I’ve been in remission for nearly 13 years. This episode always brings me back to those memories in treatment and the joy of finally being free from treatment. It’s still a fantastic episode and it’s written so well. It truly captured every emotion a person going through this treatment would feel, including the overwhelming joy after it’s all over. Edit: wow...I’m amazed at all the likes! I didn’t expect all this love, I just wanted to share my experience but THANK YOU!
I remember watching that Charlie Brown special in class in third grade. At that time my grandmother was being treated for cancer and I was able to go home that day and talk to my mom about what I had learned and what was happening to my Nana. Unfortunately she died right around that time but I was still able to understand the loss and its causes. Since then I've had two very close family friends diagnosed with leukemia and breast cancer, and while one still lives a full life while going through monthly treatment, the first died a few months ago. I think it's so so important for children's programming to tackle these difficult issues in ways for children to understand, and not only with terrible tragedies and illnesses like these, but also with relationships and emotional expression. Shows like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood or Steven Universe are very good at that.
"waist - away" waste away kit, that's pretty clever. i appreciate these shows for giving these lessons, especially for those that didn't have a guardian to be there for them.
When I was a kid, my friend had a brain tumour, but the teacher never told us. I was in kindergarten and like my classmates, didn't know. For some reason, she liked hanging out with me more than the two other girls. At first, I found it annoying. I was a tomboy, I wanted to hang out with the guys, though I still liked dolls and was a troublemaker, and I was mean to her. I got scolded by my teacher, but I never knew why. It wasn't until my mom finally told me that she has "an owie in her head," and I understood and played with her a lot from then on. It wasn't until grade 1 rolled around, and near the end of that year, she died. I remember sitting in the church as the priest spoke, turning my head left and right, to the only finding people crying. I started to cry, but I didn't know why. All I did know, is that I'd never see my friend again. I don't regret my time with her and I'm glad my mother told me before it was too late. She also helped me get through my first bullying. I'm glad shows talk about this type of thing because it does happen.
NounisS I have more sob stories about death and how It shaped me to respect life and treasure those I care about. But I’m still a dumb teenager that acts out in emotions, but at least I’m not coward and I’m willing to learn 👍
Jennifer Papillo When I was around 6 or 7 and went to a Catholic convent school ( yes, taught by nuns, I carry the baggage to this day and I’m 42) we had a girl in the class below me who suddenly just didn’t come to school any more. She would occasionally come in to see everyone, probably around once a month or so for around a year I think. We were told absolutely nothing about why she wasn’t in school any more, or why she had lots of bald patches which turned to complete baldness and some of the nuns were such hard-faced bitches that I knew not to ask for fear of being walloped again with the handle of the classroom broom. As a school we all went to church together one morning, which wasn’t at all unusual for us but this time there was, what I as a young child was beginning to recognise, a white coffin at the altar. I knew these boxes were for the deceased, and that a small white one signified a small child. I wasn’t alone in feeling totally confused. I’m sure it can’t have been too long in to the mass that I realised what was actually going on here. The funeral finished, we went back to school and I don’t recall it ever being discussed again. I don’t think school could’ve handled it any more confusingly for us. That single experience as a 6/7 year old (I might’ve even been 5 actually) influenced the way I would approach the subject of death with my old children years later. There are ways of exploring the subject with young children rather than just ignoring it and thinking they won’t even notice! Your comment had me welling up bringing it all back and seeing that little girl’s funeral for what it was and through a Mum’s eyes xx
You know what's funny, all these shows are all pretty old shows. They're from the "old Disney" and none of them are from the "New Disney." Because now a days, kids are not shown real life problems on shows, and that's sad. 😥
At the same time though, as much as it is important to know about these topics, notice how none of the episodes in this video were... "entertaining?" They're important and have great symbolism behind them and all, but not something you'd watch on a daily basis. You're saying that, "In order for a show to be good, it must have a moral", which I highly disagree with.
1Laika maybe so, but these older shows were willing to do this, because they felt it mattered. It emphasized that this was a world that was real, that sometimes things don't end up happy for everyone. The big issue here that I have with a lot of more modern shows is that, they don't want anything to really matter. If things are important, characters have to change, meaning that the story moves forward and the show can't go on forever. Tv has slid into a merchandising slump recently, and it feels like they don't want to make it about characters anymore. There are still good shows, and to be fair, part of the reason this doesn't happen much these days is because no one wants to make an anvilicious episode, be that one nosy guy. But sometimes, the anvil needs to be dropped, they need to learn about this.
I agree with what everyone is saying on this comment. The reason I feel shows now don't tackle serious issues is because it's controversial and polarizing. We live in a society where so much is being debated. Like the show "13 reasons why" recieved a lot of hate of their depiction of suicided and there was much argument on whether or not the show gave a positive message on the situation. If their going to do a episode involving serious issues, then they have to do it right or it could backfire on them. TV people don't want that kind or controversy, especially when it comes to children TV. Which is why they think it's a good idea to exclude these serious issues from their shows. But I do think it would be interesting to see more children shows tackling these issues.
such a touching loving show I'm 25 but even now I get sad at that moment that and when Chuckys form rugrats bug died yeah it's a bug but thank about it he lost he's mom and he dose not want other things or people to die so yeah both are said
That's the reason why I love "Infinity Train". That show point blank shows each main character going through real life issues and how they over come them, no "hidden meaning" that could or could not be interpreted as something else.
Here are some other shows that dealt with serious issues. •”Jessie” focuses on military parents and adoption •”Hannah Montana” focuses on diabetes •”Full House” focuses on abuse •”That’s So Raven” focuses on body image and photoshop •”Shake It Up” focuses on amnesia (Idk if that counts) These are what’s I could think of
You know, I miss when kids shows used to tell lessons rather than only fun. We used to have Sesame Street, Charlie Brown, basically any show before the 2010s. They’d talk about disease, death, violence, drugs and alcohol, divorce, basically any controversial topic. My parents were divorced and even though I never watched these specific episodes about divorce, I’m glad I found them since I knew what I was going through wasn’t that bad as I thought it was. I hope more kids and even adults watch these old shows, as the newer kid shows don’t even tell lessons or education. I hope they do return to this style of kid shows again.
I think the lesson of that _Rocko's Modern Life_ special on Netflix has taught me that the past will not always be there forever and we have to accept change to move on for the future. It's a nice message.
"The amazing world of gumball" tackles some pretty controversial topics. Except, they do it in a sort of comedic way. Like one episode where richard didn't want his mom to date because "Dad could come back with the milk any minute now!".
My Poppy(other Grandfather) Died and my sister asked Where is Heaven to the doctors and it sounded Like she was saying will he come back? I was a baby and didnt remeber
I remember Arnold having some pretty deep episodes. There was one about a kid who is fucking abandoned by his parents so he's all messed up and screams at anyone who gets too close to his 'stoop' and I remember the one about the pigeon man making me sad for reasons I didn't really understand as a kid.
Bruh one episode talked about mistakes and at one point in the episode the Tiger (Forgot his name) sings a song asking if he was a mistake and I was on the verge of tears.
Fred Rogers was an incredible man, and I almost feel more comforted by his words of guidance as an adult than I did when I was young. Even when he talked about something less serious, the way he spoke always made me feel so safe and...loved. He was everyone's neighbor.
I do remember being shown the Cancer episode of "Why Charlie Brown, Why?" It was shown to us at our school for Cancer Awareness. But the first time I saw it, I legit got pissed off that the one bully made fun of a Cancer Patient. I Jumped out from my seat and I yelled. But then one of our classmates had Cancer, and We ended up singing Bruno Mars' Count on Me for her. She's much better now and I've learned to control my Temper but that School year was a frightening one... Oh I'm rambling aren't I, sorry... Edit: Why the flip is this getting so much attention? This was a year ago
Let's not forget that Sesame Street has talked about the subject of autism and ADHD, some kids might not understand what it means but I'm glad that Sesame Street introduced Julia and other kids with autism ❤️❤️
I wish full house was on the list, it talked about dj and Stephanie dealing with their mothers loss, dj starving herself, boys at dj's school drinking beer, Stephanie's friends smoking, dj stopping Kimmy from driving drunk and a boy in Stephanie's class who has an abusive father
Anybody else remember the episode of Sesame Street where Elmo wants to give his Uncle (I think) a picture he drew for him but then Elmo's dad had to explain to him again that he died and he's just dead I was so sad when I saw that 😭😭
I remember when I was in the First grade, they showed us “Why, Charlie Brown, Why?” Because one of our classmates had been diagnosed with leukemia. I got the message right away. I got the message as a SIX year old. Which means they honestly did a very good job explaining that situation to a young audience.
@Carl Hodges Well the twin towers were also attacked in the 90s before the huge attack in 2001. A lot of 9/11 episodes on TV before the traumatic attack, are most likely hinting at the attack in the 90s. A lot of people don't know that the towers were attacked/attempted multiple times. Honestly, the 2001 attack could of been avoided, IMO.
No kidding, Sesame Street had touch several issues about life in the real world itself besides 9/11 and death. They had touched issues about parents being deployed overseas, hurricanes, autism, grief, any problems everyone has to deal with. Any kind of issue that children will face in the future; drugs, racism, this kid show stood the test of time besides Arthur.
I mean most of these episodes happened before the year 2007. after 2007, kid shows became more polished. I don't really blame the creators or the executive producers of networks, I actually blame the parents who think content expressing these situations are too sensitive for children. I mean in good luck Charlie, one episode just hinted that there was a lesbian couple and what happened? homophobic adults sent a child (who was younger than 5y/o) death threats.
When my friend had been diagnosed with leukemia in elementary school, our teachers decided to show this to us so we'd understand what it was she was going through.
when my sister was diagnosed with cancer, we received “why charlie brown why” on VHS from the hospital. i was only about 5 or 6, but i easily identified with the sisters. at the time when you’re young, you get jealous of your sick sibling. you wonder why no one remembers you or why everyone is always so happy to see them. you obviously don’t realize that you never want that disease, but it hurt me deeply to see my sister get all the attention while i was put on the back burner. it did an amazing job of helping us all relate to our new reality.
My grandma suffers from breast cancer... She had it in her 20s and she made a full recovery.... But know she's in her 70s and the doctor told her to get comfortable... I haven't seen her cause she lives with my mom and my dad isn't letting me see my mom...
I'm a Cancer survivor myself. So "Why Charlie Brown Why" hits close to home. As in 1999, I was diagnosed with Leukemia at 16 years of age. Its Surreal when it happens to you and you realize its not a Bad Dream, that its REALLY happening. Also, this Special was Close to Sparky himself, as Sparky's mother died of Cancer in 1943.
Does anybody remember that episode of the suite life of zack and Cody where London and Maddie were tricked in to thinking they were either too skinny or too fat and began to binge and starve themselves.
So is nobody going to talk about how they made a *half-hour special* about 9/11 in *less than 10 days?!* That is impressive, and really shows how serious they took the topic. It's a shame not many take this holiday of rememberation and respect seriously.
Arthur was THE show that dealt with serious issues for children. I watched that show a lot as a little kid, and looking back, a lot of episodes tackle hard-to-understand subjects in an easy undertandable way, but NEVER talks down to children like they were dumb. Arthur treated their child based audience maturely, like they can handle it (and clearly they COULD handle it, seeing how the show still lives on).
I mean my favorite has got to be the one about the media, featuring the backstreet boys. (I think, anyway. The one where one gets a crush and finds out her crush is a hologram.)
10:39 This one got me. My father died when I was 6. The doctor walked into the room and told us my father had died, me not understanding started to hand out tissues to my mom and older sister's. When I realized I'll never see him alive again that broke my heart and I started bawling.
The thing where it says “truth is, I don’t hire black people” It literally made me laugh with her face and way she said it, they handled the episode so well.
@@shesoverit It can be funny to people. You’re allowed to laugh at someone saying something racist as long as you’re laughing AT them, not WITH them. It all depends on if you’re punching up or punching down.
It kinda sucks Thats so Raven was trying to give a message about discrimination when she herself was discriminatory years later. She became the thing she wanted to stop.
Wow, a black show whining about racism, I'm shocked. Where was their outrage when I lost out on a good job to a black guy that didn't even submit a resume? From what I heard all he did was check the box marked "black" on the application, had no relevant work history, etc. Affirmative action just rewards people for being morons. Last thing I heard before moving out of state was that he got fired and/or arrested for stealing something, not sure what, but imagine my surprise upon hearing it...
WARNING: the video you're about to watch contains material not suitable for a younger audience. ^Never thought I'd see that on a video about children's TV shows.^
+Wolf and Raven Are you kidding me!? They should've cut that out. They should reupload this video, and cut that "warning" out. There's no need for a warning. Kids should be able to see this. I don't even recall anyone cursing in this video.
the Mr. Hooper episode reminds me of when I had to explain to my little sister that our older cousin wasn't going to be visiting us anymore. (he died in a motorcycle crash when she was younger) and she said "did he move too far away?" and I started crying. I guess he did move too far away, but someday I'll be able to visit him again.
@@Kittibat its an early one from the first original anime season. Its episode 4 of the original japanese but i think episode 3 of the DiC adaptation. It's called "Slim City"
im surprised full house wasn’t on here. Full House covered an eating disorder; DJ (the eldest daughter) has to wear a bathing suit in front of her friends, and she thinks she’s too fat; so she starts to skip all her meals. Her younger sister, Stephanie finds out, and DJ forces her to keep quiet by making a pinkie swear. They all went to the gym, and DJ works herself too hard and almost fainted. They bring her home, and they find out DJ’s been skipping meals by Stephanie telling them.
Gabriela Mallo I think the child abuse one tackled the situation amazingly. However, Full House wasn't really targeted at children. It was a "family night" type of show.
idk why most kid shows don't go in darker themes today. Most shows today want their show to be child-friendly or to hide the dark cruel world of us. I mean i'm not saying all shows don't go to dark themes but most think that kids are able to take this information when most kids can.
Rae Wright steven universe takes two main issues: sexuality and love, which teens can understand more so than kids. Older cartoons cover a wider variety of things which kids can understand more easily than Steven Universe's symbolism.
Dubious Seed It has plenty more themes, even in the Sapphire/Ruby relationship it's also a possible allegory for class or race mixing if you have a look at the actual attitude towards the event in the show.
Aya Drevis Kids won't get those correlations without extra clarification or experiences with those issues where as teens will understand that from the get-go bc they already have exposure to the issues presented. Older cartoon just throw the issue of that episode in your face at the beginning. SU has a main storyline which adds modern issues to the mix. Older cartoons are built around issues with a minimal storyline to go with it (since they rest back to normal most of the time)
Helga on the Couch is one of the most heartbreaking episodes of Hey Arnold. It's right up there with the Christmas episode. That show had a really strong way of tugging on your heart strings.
Isaac Barlow I agree. Maybe they dont need to be introduced at a super young age. But certain things should be. The younger the better. For example, death and sickness to a 4 or 5 year old, but the sex talk at maybe 12 or 13 while adolescence is at its peak.
Honestly, we NEED this in today’s cartoons for kids. Being an adult is tough, but being a kid is also tough in its own way. You have little to no control over your own life, you’re also hit with hormones that make you think and act weird. You experience your first taste of love and heart break. Maybe family problems at home or school. Kids are like blank canvases, they can easily be dyed any color. But certain events or messages in their life can help and change who they are. I remember certain episodes of several shows that really made me think and feel a certain way. I started to understand deep emotions and how those shows taught me to deal with it in a positive way. The early 90’s and early 2000’s was the golden era of cartoons. Some cartoons newer out there like Adventure time, Steven universe are great but nowadays most shows are all about bright colors and acting “wild” for literally the most random reason with no plot just GO,GO,GO to the next gag. It’s not about being creative, it’s about what sells and how fast corporations can put out a cartoon to try and boost ratings. Very sad, but I believe there’s still hope ❤️
Title: "9 episodes of *Kids' Shows* that dealt with serious issues" First thing the video says: "The video you are about to watch contains material *not suitable for a younger audience.* " *WAT*
it's probably bc youtube would flag/demonetize this for not suitible for younger audiences, if he didn't make a disclaimer himself? idk thats what I think
Well, some young people cannot handle such subjects. Thigns like cancer and death can be new to a child or they dont understand and may react badly to it.
This "After-School Special" made us ALL giggle while 'we got 'stoned!' LOL!!! Oh, the WELL "spent days of my youth!" ;-P SEE the FILM! OMGiggle! ua-cam.com/video/Rz-3vn1XR_g/v-deo.html
I remember that episode of 'That's so Raven' and I remember as a kid just being confused as to why she wouldn't hire her because she was black. I was raised in a home where I was taught to be polite and to treat everyone with kindness no matter who they were, what gender they were, what sexuality they were, what disabilities they had, or what they looked like, so it was an odd thing for me to see on TV and then to realize that it is a real thing that people do. And to this day, it is still odd for me to see people with such attitudes and reactions to things like that.
Most people who are like that probably come from different backgrounds. Their beliefs are different because of what they have been taught or have learned.
That's so Raven was my favorite show since I was a kid it was the first time I realized about racism and there was another episode when she was being a model for the clothes she made and they photoshopped her body and she said why did they change her body and she wanted it back not photoshopped, love your body, color, size and race :)
SPARTA X57 worse that nearly none do so. TTG went so far as to take serious lessons to a point of insulting. We need shows to be bold with that stuff and show this properly
I know it's Nickelodeon, but I swear that in an iCarly special (I think the one Keenan Thompson appeared in), Sam makes a clearly upset comment about her dad leaving her family and there was a LAUGH TRACK... No comment, just wow...
That cancer episode of Arthur unfortunately got pulled after lance armstrong admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs. It's unfortunate, as it is quite a good episode and could have worked with any famous cancer survivor had they only known.
@@LukaTisus but in hindsight, I find the fact Lance hid so much to be more unpleasant because he seemed so likeable on the show but it was all a bunch of lies.
The key difference is that everyone with Autism lies on a spectrum. The low end of the Spectrum means that you need 24/7 care and can’t independently function. The high end of the Spectrum means that you can adequately function on your own and have an IQ of roughly 125 or higher. The muppet on Sesame Street seems to lie somewhere between the middle and high ends of the Spectrum.
Julia! ❤ I loved the way they handled that, even going so far as to show what sensory overload is like. Also, Aurther did a segment about a child with Asperger's, which I felt was nicely done as well, especially the way is was explained to the main character of that episode. Sometimes it really is like being on an alien planet.
Sensory overload... oh my god... it probably one of the most excruciating things I've ever been through in my life (when it happened). It's not like you're on an alien planet, (for me at least) but it feels like my head boils and I'm in war or something. The sounds get louder, echo more, and I feel like everyone is gossiping behind my back... yeah, you could say I was very impressed that Sesame Street took it upon themselves to cover something that is still stigmatized to this day.
@@justalpha9138 I was referring to how autism can be in general. It can sometimes feel like a foreign country where you know only the spoken language, but none of the body language, hand signals, slang, customs, etc. But yeah, sensory overload is nasty. I like the description you gave of the war zone. It's very fitting and evocative. :)
Robbie Farabee I don't think so but they aired it less often than other ones. Same with the smoking episode. I only saw them waking up very early in the morning to them half way through.
I watched the Charlie Brown cancer one in preschool. The school held a Bunny Hop for cancer and after the hop, I remember going into a room I had never seen before and watching this. Since I didn't know how serious cancer was and had a short attention span, I only remember Lucy thinking she'll get cancer because Linus gave her a glass of milk.
Andrew Prahst I did a show at my theater of Charlie Brown and while I think the director tried to make it happier, every scene he was in he was basically just really sad
Awww.....my friend died of Stomach cancer yesterday . he died because he drank coke and ate chips and more soft drinks . he was already warned that don't drink soft drinks by a doctor . BUT.......STILL HE DRANK THEM. he was vomiting blood after that so all the male teachers ( we have soo many male teachers ) took him to hospital . the next day he died 😢😢

Imma be honest..I almost cried when they told big bird Hooper died. It was like telling a child. He's like "when's he coming back."
End My Life but true
Kai's nothere same
I believe Big Bird is actually meant to represent the mind of a young child. That's why he's so naive and questions everything.
I think Mr. Hooper's death was the first episode I saw.
I actually did fucking cry, he had the most innocent reaction and I couldn't handle it.
@@rjstudios21 You mean his GIRLfriend; he and Janice have a crush on each other.
@@rjstudios21 it also shows that Linus was NOT dependent on it.

That would be nice. Kids need to learn about the real world.
I would like that, especially about mental health, I feel like kids should know about those types of things, along with people who judge people of who they are (like racism, homophobia and so on) so they know that you don't need to be ashamed of who you are, and that it's okay to be you
Ik! Most cartoons now just have fart/butt jokes that aren't funny
Back then they did but now parents want to ignore it or shield kids from it. Parents mistake Influence & Education.
That is true. Kids need to learn about the truth. However, what they also need is to learn how to be happy and to understand how important it is to feel that way. Not just to talk about bad vibes.
Man, Mr. Rogers was such a wholesome, lovable guy. He taught kids serious issues. May he rest in peace
Rodgers I always think about that time some gangster stole his car, found out who’s car it was, and gave it back
I always loved that story
The funny thing is, people thought that I changed my name to Roger because of him. I actually changed it to that because of the “Rent” character Roger Davis.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Just know that they are in a better place, they are in peace, they have no worries.

This made me cry
Jennifer Papillo I'm like crying so bad rn.
The "owie in her head" broke my heart..
You know what's funny, all these shows are all pretty old shows. They're from the "old Disney" and none of them are from the "New Disney." Because now a days, kids are not shown real life problems on shows, and that's sad. 😥
Liz Fordays Same ;-;
At the same time though, as much as it is important to know about these topics, notice how none of the episodes in this video were...

Fred Rogers was an incredible man, and I almost feel more comforted by his words of guidance as an adult than I did when I was young. Even when he talked about something less serious, the way he spoke always made me feel so safe and...loved. He was everyone's neighbor.
People think that he’s the reason why I changed my name to Roger (I’m trans). It was actually because of a musical I love “Rent”.
Another dark episode of Arthur was “April 9th,” which was similar to 9/11.
Honestly, the 2001 attack could of been avoided, IMO.
i checked, it was a episode about the school catching on fire
Oh yeah
that seasame Street episode must have been really hard to shoot considering that he really was dead..so sad :(
yea, the actors including big bird had to do it in one take because they were so upset even talking about it.

Damn right.
when my sister was diagnosed with cancer, we received “why charlie brown why” on VHS from the hospital. i was only about 5 or 6, but i easily identified with the sisters. at the time when you’re young, you get jealous of your sick sibling. you wonder why no one remembers you or why everyone is always so happy to see them. you obviously don’t realize that you never want that disease, but it hurt me deeply to see my sister get all the attention while i was put on the back burner. it did an amazing job of helping us all relate to our new reality.

Totally!! it's amazing how a show meant for little kids shows them how to deal with cancer, tragedy(the episode April 9th) understanding autism etc
I mean my favorite has got to be the one about the media, featuring the backstreet boys. (I think, anyway. The one where one gets a crush and finds out her crush is a hologram.)

I'm surprised they didn't bring up grandpa Dave's memory album. As it talks about Alzheimer's and is becoming a big thing with many kids grandparents

im surprised full house wasn’t on here.
It wasn't just eating disorders that Full House tackled...they also had episodes about child abuse, peer pressure, underage drinking, and death
Gabriela Mallo yes! I forgot to add that; thank you.

Yo Steven Universe though
Rae Wright steven universe takes two main issues: sexuality and love, which teens can understand more so than kids. Older cartoons cover a wider variety of things which kids can understand more easily than Steven Universe's symbolism.
the writers know they’ll get loads of hate bc ppl are really sensitive these days :/
It may be disturbing for children... but they have to know these things eventually.

Ok boomer

I remember that episode of 'That's so Raven' and I remember as a kid just being confused as to why she wouldn't hire her because she was black. I was raised in a home where I was taught to be polite and to treat everyone with kindness no matter who they were, what gender they were, what sexuality they were, what disabilities they had, or what they looked like, so it was an odd thing for me to see on TV and then to realize that it is a real thing that people do. And to this day, it is still odd for me to see people with such attitudes and reactions to things like that.

Recently, Sesame Street did a segment on autism and they had a character with autism but still explained that everyone with autism is different.
Julia! ❤
I loved the way they handled that, even going so far as to show what sensory overload is like.
Yeah, that is a good estimate.
