Xs doesn't need any tuning the engine was derived from rally background. That's its nippy to weight ratio. This will give a lot cars on road good run. I loved that car 20 years ago

We had the 205 1.6 GTi and 1.4 XS in my household during the late 1980s and I had access to both cars. The XS was a complete match for the GTi from 30-70 through the gears but was a much better drive because its steering was lighter. Whilst I love the modern safety features in modern cars, I miss the days of the warm or hot hatch rather than the current sanitised and bloated offerings from manufacturers that are quite bland to drive. no matter how fast they are.

I had a 1.9 too and I agree. The XS was basically a Rallye in street clothes and what fun it was on a winding Lincolnshire backroad.

Good stuff, here in America not many people know of the 205 and its legacy. Like the person before me said, your channel will thrive if you focus your attention to cars like the 205. They might not be the fastest, but in my opinion, they have a deeper personality than any modern hypercar. Nevertheless, the 458 video was still a masterpiece and I'm looking forward to see what this channel will bring. I'll definitely subscribe.

This used to rev to 7800 rpm, I did 110 max on xs. 0 - 100 used to fly all the time, after 100 it struggles.
Gear box fairly strong I went through 3 gearboxs. 1st gear was the best just drive and rev it

Awesome video production. Hope to see more of you guys.
The 205 is definitely THE 80's hot hatch. I only own a 1.1 205, but even that is a blast to drive. These XS are pretty hard to find and the GTI is getting to the 10 grand territory. Oh, I miss the days when you could get a 1.6 GTI for €1500. Should've bought one then...

Ok, I get that everybody is nostalgic about their old car but no need to get carried away and oversell it. Get into an accident with a 205 and you will quickly realize what is the tradeoff for "lightweight".

I had a 1988 XS in dark metallic grey. Was a nice comfy car (the seats especially) that was raw to drive and v nippy. Swapped it for an 89 Citroen AXGT in the end which, although had the same engine, was not as quick as the 205. Happy days them.

The most eager sounding 85bhp! I think you make an appropriate point about these kind of cars returning in the modern low-emission era. The newly released Suzuki Swift for example weighs an impressive sub-900kg, let's hope a similar kind of feeling can be recaptured someday soon when they release the 'Sport' model. If Peugeot did a similar thing now, I think they'd sell like hot cakes.

    Hi Gents,
    I enjoyed the video.
It looks like your a bunch of real petrolheads and I commend you for that.
I am sure you had fun filming the 458, but there are eleventy million 458 videos available all over the interweb.
That said, if you can continue to create content about less obvious vehicles like this delicious 205 XS then I think you could be on to a winner. Look forward to hearing more about the E39 projects too.
Keep up the good work and I'll be sure to check back soon.

I had a Gti 1.6 had it tuned it was a beast to 0-60 faster then a Porsche missed that car as soon as I sold it the gti had to driven with a care as it was prone for under steer if you were kanning it and would just take off on the corner due to its incredible lightness if you were not totally on the ball this hot hatch will never be beaten just wished I’d kept my little pug

Thanks for the video, brought back great memories of my 205xs that I had in the late 90s. The engine loved to be thrashed, and if you floored it the twin choke opened up and it started screaming along. I remember thrashing it down a dual carriageway in mid Wales, being overtaken by a tw@t in a BMW only to outbreak him at the next roundabout and thrash him going round it, he caught me up on the next straight but I felt very smug. Even pimped it up with a Motolita steering wheel 😀. Good times.

I may only have a 205 1.1 Style, acceleration is around the 10 second mark and 60hp can be a bit sticky in some situations but once you're up to speed, she can hang onto any modern hatches in the twisty country lanes. I always keep her in a garage overnight and make sure she's in an immaculate condition because these little cherries really are something for the future.

  • @TeslaNick2
    @TeslaNick2 7 років тому +3

Awe, I miss my little 205xs. One of the most fun cars I've ever owned and a unique character not replicated in the GTi models.
The low ratio gearbox (especially second gear - anyone who's driven one knows exactly what I mean - it's even evident in this video), low weight, that free revving engine with the roar of the twin choke carb that just wants to rev and rev, the boost effect from the second choke at about 3/4 throttle. It was just such a great combination.
Great for poking around twisty lanes, not so good doing 80mph on a motorway thrashing along at 4,500rpm.
I gave mine away in the end, to a friend's son. I still wonder if it's still around.

I had a post facelift 90 model for 2 years and absolutely loved it.
The performance on offer from so little power was amazing. Being in my early 20’s I often found myself out sprinting unsuspecting drivers in Land rovers from the traffic lights. It was really economical too. Handling was amazing, every journey, no matter the speed was enjoyable. Only downsides; a leaking sunrooof and dizzy cap that allowed moisture in durning overnight downpours. Overall though, one of the favourite cars I have owned. Great to see a video about it.
