For anyone who's coming to this video now, I had the idea of basically leaving the spring swimming in Super Lube, much like we do with mechanical keyboard switches, although here the idea is to deaden the click rather than the ping. It's had a noticeable effect - the clicking is still there, but it's less consistent, reduced maybe 50%. Still feels nice and smooth to use.
A very nice human directed me to this video as the clicks from both my ds5 controlers' sticks was driving me nuts😭🤮 thanks dude for taking the time to address this. Subbed👊

I had the first release Dualsense, the click started after about year 2 in both sticks. Drove me nuts and tried to replace them but ended up with the USB, Microphone and charge not working (think I scratched some traces). I then bought a new PS5 in March and after about a week the sticks started clicking, currently RMA'd and awaiting a replacement. Atrocious this has happened considering I have a gen1 Xbox One controller, Switch pro and numerous other pads with no stick issues. Feels like Sony are trying to upsell us to the Edge, which worked on me! Good on you for finding the issue!
The alps joystick modules have a faint click when they are new and I can't tell if it gets any worse as they wear. If it developed a click in time I would expect that to be a different problem. Lot of thin plastic in the joystick modules that could wear or crack and cause a problem.
I really hope someone has an old alps joystick to try. I'm thinking they changed the molds at some point. And maybe didn't do a lot of testing with the changed parts.
Lubricating the springs a little bit might help. Favour Union also even lubricates the potis inside. They're still trash compared to alps (not good either) :D
I tried a bit of machine oil, hard to tell if it reduced the sound any. I think grease might work but getting it to the spring is a problem. I think they are just really cutting corners now in making the joysticks.

The other controller's joysticks are somewhat loose. I guess the only thing I could do is to change them.
That sounds like a different problem. It may be that the joystick modules are worn out. The Alps joysticks have a faint click at the very start of movement.
@@metalplasticelectronics354 I agree, that's a different case. Btw the "alps" label on them is different to my US controller. Don't know if the manufacturer used some other stamps for parts that appeared in my newly acquired European controllers. Or if they are some knock-offs placed there after a repair. Well, I was told that the sticks were repaired but the solder looked intact. Anyways I have already ordered a replacement.
Yeah, and I am talking here about late xbox 360 controllers. Of course they are a little different to the ones in your video.
All three I've tried did it
This seems like a defect and or recall its super annoying while playing ill be returning my controller because this xbox controller is wayyyyyyy smoother that this shite controller feel bad for anyone that has to use these controllers xbox player's already have advantage by already having better stick😂
Just seems to be an effort to make them as cheap as possible.
Dumb as hell
So it's normal?
I think you could say it is normal for the Alps joysticks. But I don't think they designed it to click.
For me its not clicking but not smooth and
Im bad at explaining
If it feels mechanically rough, there is probably a problem with the plastic guides in the joystick module. Did the problem start out of the box or after some use?
@@metalplasticelectronics354 after some uses i feel like it stutter when i try to use the joystick slowly if u know what i mean its not smooth when its moving slow its stutter
That sounds like the potentiometers are going bad. It might be possible to just clean them. Probably little flakes of the resistive element are coming apart.
@@metalplasticelectronics354 so i should get them to be fixed right
brand new xbox controller makes this annoying click. feels like a cheap POS.. wasnt cheap either..
Happens on my Elite Series 2 as well, brand new
