Can These Hall Effect Joysticks Work in a DualSense Controller?
Переглядів 2,3 тис.14 днів тому
While I enjoy the feel of the orange Hall effect joystick, it does feel different; “smooth” seems to be the most common adjective describing it. So I've still been looking for a Hall effect joystick that feels like a regular potentiometer-type joystick. And I think the Hall sensors in this kit get as close as I've seen. But there are complications. Modifications will be required to get these jo...

You will need a temperature controlled soldering iron, doesn’t have to be an expensive one. But get one that is at least 60 watts. I use the Hakko FX-951 but it’s expensive. Any good tin/lead electrical solder will work. I’ve always like the Kester #44 63/37. Get some solder wick. Take a look at this video: ua-cam.com/video/zxc6VIb8Ox0/v-deo.html. Most of the time I use a vacuum desoldering gun to remove the joysticks. I don’t know how well the cheap ones on Amazon work. But take a look at this video for removing the joystick without a vacuum desoldering gun ua-cam.com/video/slxgHcYHnm8/v-deo.html. The PC board holder comes from Amazon. Just search for PC board holder, it’s sold under a few different brands, should be less than 20 dollars.

The solder is Kester 44 63/37, but any good solder will do. The tin lead has a bit lower melting point than the lead-free, so it is a bit easier on the PC board. The vacuum desoldering gun is a very old Hakko 470, it's been discontinued for years. The soldering iron is a Hakko FX-951. It's the best soldering iron I've ever had, but a bit on the expensive side.

Edit after watching closer: Interesting note: I'm 99% sure that the box this came in is from a counterfeit unit. Legit canon PF-10 labels say "Printhead" on the box and unit. This one's box says "Print head" (with a space). I got scammed with one like this. Dunno what is different, or if they work in some printers, but mine did not, and Canon confirmed the counterfeit issue. Likely what happened here is someone replaced a worn out but good legit printhead (the one in the video) and got scammed with a counterfeit, then threw out the old one in the counterfeit box. They will be disappointed very soon. Stay sharp out there

Hey, just curious for your input. I recently replaced my drifting dualsense potentiometer joystick with a hall effect joy stick, identical to the one in this video. After calibrating it to be as close to center as possible, it works fine however it introduced a new problem of snapback, that is when running forward and letting go, the joystick registers movement in the backwards direction upon the joysticks return to center. Any suggestions on how to fix this while not significantly hurting the ability for the joystick to return to center?

Everything about this repair is impossible and I'm convinced it was by design. You need specialized tools, you can easily damage the PCB or other components. The solder doesn't melt even when I turn my iron up to 480C. All after getting extreme stick drift after 15 months of light usage (3 hours per week). I'll never buy one of these controllers ever again, it's textbook planned obsolescence.

Could you take a magnet and see if it attracts the same for "left/right" at the same face? If it does, wow, I need one of those. But yes, I'd imagine their custom hall effect sensor works differently from off the shelf parts seeing how the voltage is halved when it gets close. Standard sensors work by having it full tilt when magnets get close. i.e. North = 0V, South = 1.8V unlike this which is 0.9V.

I ordered a couple of them yesterday. I also saw some advertised as Hall effect, but the pictures were of regular joysticks. Those I didn't try, almost positive there going to be regular joysticks.

Thank you for this excellent video! I thought crimping would be very simple, but I am learning.

My dishwasher is only 2.5 years old and my pump failed. LG just flat out refused my warranty claim. Thankfully your video helped me get mine running again. Hopefully long enough so I can save up for a better brand.

well done, what is your lathe model?

It's a PRO-TECH 5278, just one of the mini-lathe re-brands. It does have an 16 TPI lead screw though. I still consider it the best tool I ever bought. I needed it at the time for one project and I worried that it would set around and never get used.

I tried dealing with LG and was told to run a cup of vinegar through it. It may help quiet the loud bearing noise. Great customer service

Only 2 years is horrible. And I don't know if LG realizes it, but their customer service is going to destroy their brand name. LG knows they have a problem with the pumps. Having their customers waste time is not going to help anyone. A few years ago LG would be a top appliance pick. Now I don't really think they would be at the top of the list.

Your repair video of this dispenser was spot on. Mine sat dormant for two years, the entire internal tube was a mass of soap gunk. Once cleared it was as good as new. Thanks.

Good vid, but if LG's quality was so great, people wouldn't be having all the problems with newer dishwashers. Mine is 2 years old.
