I glad to see there are people who still know how to make a trailer. This peaks your interest, showing a certain amount of action to get you pumped, but not showing too much. And gives you a general plan of the plot but not too much to spoil the whole storyline. Loved the first, can't wait for this.

This is how you make a martial arts film. This particular trailer does not do the movie justice. With enough action to fill three movies, The Raid 2 presents a master class in brutality, a mesmerizing ballet of violence where bodily destruction is contorted and elevated into jaw-dropping instances of abstract art. It’s a pulse-pounding blur of sound and movement, each fight meticulously shot with a striking visual scheme and breathless pace. The effect is thrilling and makes almost every other recent action movie seem unimaginative and stale. Though this crime epic isn’t intricately plotted, it doesn’t really need to be. Indonesian martial arts star Iko Uwais brings gravitas and enough heroic qualities to provide an emotional anchor to the story. All you need then is a high tolerance for carnage. I rate it 4 stars out of 5.

  • @VermillionGates

We just came back from this movie and let me tell you... this is one of the best martial arts films of all time. Actually, one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I haven't seen fighting like this in a movie since Tony Jaa. It's gory and brutal but realistic, people look like they're getting hit. I think they are actually hitting each other (not hard obviously) even the stunts are all real. No crappy CGI car crashes, no zoomed in camera to the point where you can't see anything and it just keeps coming. I like the Raid series but this one had some serious cinematic quality. Beautiful imagery, sad moments, raw emotion from actors and brilliant scenes. GO SEE IT! Please, this movie deserves your money.

Doug Magee That sounds too good to be true. I really hope that's legit. One of my favorite martial arts movies was Ong-Bak. IP Man was another awesome fighting movie. This ties in martial arts a bit better than other modern day fighting movies cause we always have that thought in the back of our minds "Why don't they use guns" and I don't mean to make this sound like "all Asian people are alike" but Eastern crime organization are a lot like the Yakuza. They abide by honor, respect, pride and this is a country that doesn't have the kind of money to order guns and ammo in bulk. Besides they look down on people who use guns. They don't make the organization to be the bad guys in this movie, aside from Bejo and Reza but they aren't a legit family. The real families are actually respected by their community and cops usually leave them alone because they do lots of community service and they keep their business clean. They really captivated the story by including realistic history. Yakuza are known to use weapons instead of guns, they think guns are dishonorable. And the families/organizations in this movie (despite being Indonesian) are very close the real deal. That's why they aren't the enemies, they only wanted the punk street gang and Reza's corrupt cops. There's so much to this movie I could talk about for days lol.

Probably one of the best and coolest movies I've watched in a long time. This movie was literally awesome from beginning to end. Super action packed (and yet still realistic looking), badass fighting scenes, cool characters, cool plot, cool everything! I honestly can't say anything negative about this film. It was simply...awesome. The first Raid was really cool too, but I liked this one better. The last fight scene that took place in the kitchen, with those deadly silat knives, was epic. Can't wait till the third movie is released.

I just got back from watching this at Cinema 21 Summarecon Mall, Bekasi, Indonesia. The place was jampacked. I spent 30 minutes looking for parking space and found it on the 4th floor. And I got a rather uncomfortable position close to the front. But damn, my frustrations turn to JOY once the cameras rolled. It was 150 minutes of PURE AWESOME! I'm definitely gonna watch this again and buy the DVDs and Blu-ray when its out. Seriously, it blows just about every actions flicks I've watched out of the water, and I've seen plenty.

People in the audience including myself lost their shit, especially during the car chase scene and last fight scene. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of great action cinema. Gareth Evans ending credits should have just said "you're welcome."

I saw it yesterday. You need to pay attention to the plot because it's kinda hard to follow some of the names, but I paid attention and did fine.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that it is brutal and intense in its violence. But, it's also jaw dropping. The entire theater was freaking out. The fight scenes are fantastic and extremely well shot. The larger budget makes the movie look incredible stylistically and color-wise. The car chase is an instant classic as well. Overall? Best action film I've ever seen. Period. Go see it now.
After it was over the complete stranger sitting in front of me turned around and said "HOLY SH*T". That pretty much sums it up.

This movie is DEFINITELY worth the buy. The action in this movie is completely adrenaline pumping, and Rama at the peak of badassery. I don't believe Iko could ever top this role as Rama, even from this sequel. He's like ultimate badassery in this compared to the first raid. The car chase was adrenaline pumping and really amazing, the fights were really great specifically the last fight. This movie is really savagely brutal and amazing its like poetic violence. Def cant wait for this to come on DVD to watch it again.

You know what would be a really great idea? Hire the guys who make the Raid movies, most importantly the choreographers, and have them make an Assasin's Creed movie. I bought the 1st to 3rd games (including expansions like AC2: Brotherhood) and what strikes me is how adaptable the choreography is to AC. I mean, the frenzied stabbing motions, bone-cracking and ballet of visceral violence remind me of Ezio's chain kills in AC2:Brotherhood and in later installments. They just have to that, I don't want to die before that becomes a reality. So, who's seconding my motion?

    SPOILER ALERT!
Do not read if you haven't seen the movie.
I say again, if you haven't seen the movie, turn back. This mini-review contains major spoilers!
You can really see Rama's descent into darkness and his struggle to maintain his sense of justice throughout the film. Like his brutal fight when he went on his first mafia job to collect protection from the porn factory, he beat the boss violently, but stopped at the last moment when he realized what he has done. Also, the part where Rama/Yudha fought to survive an assault by an armed gang who turned out to be men of the law (albeit corrupt) and his increasing inability to trust his cop boss, Bunawar. And Bunawar early on, set the stage by blurring the line between good and evil. And his statement about there being no clean war... You can really see Rama's desperation as he realized how trapped he is.
And that brings me to my favorite character of the second movie, Eka. Dude's last words made me think about the futility of their efforts to clean up a world so utterly corrupt. "You cut off one head, one more springs up to take its place. You want to get out?" (sarcastic smirk) "You've got to finish everyone of them."
And I like Uco's characterization as well. He might be a psychopath, but I feel sorry for the guy. Cause all it seems that he wanted was his father's recognition. A pat on the head and his father telling him something along the lines of "You did a good job, son. I'm proud of you." Bejo was pretty much playing him and he only, kind of realized it at the end. Though it was funny how that bugging device played a role in seeding and tying together the seeds of distrust in the end.

I know this sequel is enough to complete the story. But if somehow they can make the raid 3, set in japan (or anywhere) or maybe spin off about Eka & andi or maybe just prequel, and the quality doesn't reduced, the raid will get a place in best action movies in history

Just watched this an hour ago. My lord. It's like watching those Batman games done by real people.
Will try to see Raid 1. This was way better than many pure action films I've seen in America.
    Insane choreography. A real eye-opener.

I believe that the original 'Raid' was the first Indonesian film to be screened in US theatres. That says a lot bc getting US viewership is a crucial ticket toward getting widespread, mainstream recognition.

These two movies have been on my "I want to watch that" list for years. I found the pair of them as a set on blu-ray for about ten bucks and grabbed them. Finally just watched them and really enjoyed! Also, Hammer Girl is like, my favorite new cinema character.
