Nick Wright on NBA Playoffs, Jayson Tatum & Celtics, Anthony Edwards vs. Luka Doncic | Colin Cowherd

- Опубліковано 15 чер 2024
- Colin Cowherd is joined by 'First Things First' host Nick Wright. The pair discuss the NBA Playoffs, starting with the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers. They give their takes on why Jayson Tatum isn't an all-time great even if the Celtics win the NBA Finals in 2024. The Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves square off in the Western Conference Finals and all eyes are on their stars Luka Doncic & Anthony Edwards. Which player is more likely to be the face of the NBA and which NBA star missed their opportunity? How does the league view American vs. international basketball players? Next, they discuss the NBA vs. MLB, UFC and the downfall of boxing and college basketball. Nick & Colin share their earliest childhood sports memories and why LeBron James is the only athlete in the GOAT discuss that didn't have a historically great coach. Lastly, they hit sports media and politics and how the discourse has changed.

My favorite episodes on the Volume are with Nick and Colin
The factZ of Life
This is the BEST DUO. I understand the multiple reasons why they’re not on the same show on FOX, but this DUO is like Lebron and Wade man
And that’s not even me saying I agree with everything or every take Nick or Colin has. This is just good Sports media
having them not on the same show makes these podcasts even more special. it would be cool tho if colin made an appearance every once in a while on ftf other than the impromptu intro last week
Trump 2024
It's like the First Things First show and PTI. When you have people talking who share interests and like each other? It's a lot different that Steven S and Perk hollering idiotic takes at each other..
Calm the glazing only nerds like this combination 😂
Nick Wright really said that 20 years ago you didn't have to worry about misinformation LMFAO. The Iraq war disagrees
Listening to nick on his pod and here has improved my conversational vocabulary 😂😂. This man just said Metastasize 🙏🏾⚡️⚡️💥💥
Tatum had 36 12 4 and 3, played great defense and was a +20 in a game decided by 5. I am his biggest critic and he drives me crazy every game. But you can’t hate on a player for not fitting the narrative the media is trying to push. Colin saying he peaked 2 years ago shows exactly why this drives Celtics fans nuts. Tatum has continued to develop each year and just because he’s not Kobe in the final 2 minutes of every game doesn’t mean he isn’t good enough to lead his team to a championship.
Colin saying he peaked in 2022 just proves that he doesn't watch the games lmao
Does he have a championship? So clearly he hasn't been good enough yet.
If the Pacers were a better team and they took advantage, they would’ve lost, and then Tatum being actually bad in crunch time would’ve come to play, now, he gets bailed out by Jaylen and it’s no big deal, but you can’t be bad in crunch time and continue to win into the championship, that’s not how that works
Bruh Tatum literally went 1-6 or something crazy with multiple turnovers in the 4th and had to get bailed out by Jalen brown AGAIN 🤡
Damn, I guess the game ended in a Tie… that or OT doesn’t count as clutch time… make it make sense. There are no perfect players… and Tatum certainly didn’t peak at 24 years of age. His scoring peaked last year, and a Chip we did not receive.
Colin you gotta turn on the mic before you use it
😂
Collin doesn’t have his mic plugged in or something
If that's a metaphor?^^ It's true about half the time...^^
He's got the wrong input selected. Just like on his main show the audio is all fucked up here too.
He is lit up.
@@charlesmontgomery442 double entendre 🤫 lol
colin you’re fried make sure your mic is on next time
Love the childhood memories stories. Miss my dad. Loved going to all the Chiefs, Royals, Kings, and Comets games with him. He was a huge sports fan and we were fortunate enough to have season tickets.
YOU HERD IT WRIGHT!!! Best duo on UA-cam
They should definitely name tha show 'U Herd It Wright'
Ha! That's clever
Best video I watch every week. Nick is the GOAT and Colin is the perfect duo to accompany him.
The comparison between Tatum and Drexler is actually very interesting and I have to agree
Love these two. Colin so loaded he forgot to plug his mic in
Colin and Nick’s chemistry is peak Podcasting for me! Don’t always agree with their opinions but, they’re always very interesting discussions! ❤
If by chemistry you mean Nick constantly interrupting Colin then sure
Damn Nick…. Pro Biden???? Really??? 🤦🏽♂️ that’s very disappointing
The vast VAST majority of these Los Angeles elites are staunch liberals. Yeah it’s gross watching them support Biden but it’s to be expected from the left coast.
he just supports what all of his idols support.
Let’s go!! An hour of nick interrupting Collin
Without the ability to form a sentence on topic. It's really irrational at this point. "Here let me spend several minutes talking about the Lakers!" Bro they haven't played in almost a month.
Best comment I’ve seen!!!
He just had too much wine before the show started lol. Nick is one of the best NBA media minds out there with his takes.
😅@@drzalejandro7
😂
Even as a Laker fan the media hate on Tatum has me rooting for him.
Yes..
If ur rooting for the Celtics then ur not a Lakers fan
Cant hate on Tatum and Celtics, when Lakers get almost swept by Nuggets twice. Give them credit for being in it till the final 4
Tatum? The HATE on Indiana no matter HOW hard they play or how good they are, because they're not the "story" you want? ARe you KIDDING me???
Bro the media literally made him a superstar and then he does nothing
I didn’t know the best duo in sports talk has a podcast together ?!
“Everyone who disagrees with me is a conspiracy theorist” what a genius take
Colin, you're mic wasn't plugged in.
Great episode as always
Colin doing 1/6 talk holy hell please turn off the MSNBC. You watched selected, edited images/videos on a corporate network. Old and/or rich people seemingly almost always choose ignorance over acknowledging they could be wrong or even simply keeping an open mind about not knowing everything. Was a good video until the last 10 minutes
It’s a lil cringe how right they think they are on this.. maybe cause they were closing the show and didn’t go too deep on it?
I thought the same thing - it reminds one the importance of diffidence on things which one is ignorant on.
When these guys turn to politics, it becomes a nightmare…
Tatum has officialy become underrated. He is 26 and being compared to all-time players, and the conversation was mostly in a negative light.
Is saying he's about the 8th best player underrating him?
Nick's ability to reel off sports history is impressive
33:33
Nick literally just described the WWE
Great convo
The term Nick was looking for is “Overton Window”
We get Nick & Colin on The Herd & on The Volume. Awesome
Weak men create hard times. Hard rime created strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times produce weak men. Colin getting it wrong makes me lol
The coherence of Colin really shines when he's on a pod with Nick, who by contrast seems abit all over the place with his delivery.
Colin is old and he gets where his place
Thanks for being open and honest with your opinions and takes in and outside of sports!
Nick representing his favorite team the bengals again I see
If the chief's start out 0 for 2. Nick's fake bravery will be on full display.
Great Derreck Thomas story @nickwright
Please do this every week
Aye !!! Time for the almost weekly ritual
My favorite duo to listen to but Nick please stop abruptly interrupting Colin
That’s what makes it funny and unique kid!
You almost have to, Colin can talk for hours uninterrupted.
Agreed, but that’s how you know nick is comfortable in the convo. It’s just kinda how they work
im sure if colin had an issue they would discuss it if u do who cares 😂
Imagine Colin and Chris Brou
Term you're looking for is the "Overton Window"
lol at Colin basically criticising media for basically being dumb😂 he's the king of random hot takes
Nick n Colin are great together but I also love him with Wiles n Broussard
Just like on his main show the audio is all screwed up here too.
Tatum made the Celtics relevant again
love how this is all about sports while simultaneously not being about sports at all
2:00 I don't mind Cowherd AT ALL, but I'm here for Nick Wright. I always skip the introductory preamble, sorry, fellas.
I guarantee you that no fan cares about the opposing team being a "better story" when their teams are competing in championship rounds.
Kudos to Nick for not participating in the "dog whistling" language Cowherd kept using. 😂
Your Lebron story is very similar to mine. I grew up about an hour from Akron and he would play schools we played even though we never played them. Not a big or good enough school. But I thought it was so cool a guy from where I’m from was getting all this hype. I used to watch him on ESPN and buy all the magazines he was in. I loved he was my age and getting all this hype. I just was a fan since then and followed Lebron where ever he went.
I do like these late at night, they talk about what I want to hear. No drama. Whether I agree or not, they know enough to make a point.
Btw - Bird was one guy who didn’t have the build they mention. At all. Kareem. But I get the notion.
Never seen a guy get more shit for just being a nice guy and a good person than Jayson Tatum.
Colin: I only talk about old stuff when it’s old stuff I remember. You could probably even say that’s not old stuff. Things I’m fond of never age.
This is GOLD pound for pound best DUE in sports talk when together.. mic drop!
If you're going to talk about jan6th then you have to acknowledge the FBI agents in the crowd
Hey Nick, why do the LA Lakers count the Minneapolis Lakers rings?
The actual way the adage goes is "strong mean create good times; good times create weak men".
Weak men create hard times. We're at the 4th turning...
He got it wrong on his FS1 show too. The full adage is: "Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times."
@@willzinc6137 That is correct. I gave the abbreviated version that applied to his usage. I like Colin Cowherd a lot and consider him one of if not the most interesting figures in his space but he does mangle adages and misuse vocabulary on a regular basis. Lately he has been using "inertia" as a synonym for momentum which is the opposite of its meaning when used as an adjective.
@@rllapte LOL inertia. I somewhat enjoy when he misuses terms and sayings. I should find the clip of him misusing the strong men, good times adage on his show. What he said made absolutely no sense.
@@willzinc6137 Also, as you know, Colin often says his opinions will change when he gets new information. His opinion on Baker Mayfield as a starting quarterback has changed more times than you can count. He now regularly identifies Baker as a franchise QB. I like Baker but that's a stretch. Baker currently holds the position of starting QB with a team that is at best mid-tier and earning close to bottom of scale for a player in that position. I would say that Baker's hold on that status is tenuous at best. That's not my definition of a franchise QB. At least half of the current starting QB's have a much more secure hold on that status. I would say that Baker is continuously staring down the prospect of being relegated to backup.
1:09:47 “you haven’t earned my time.” I love that. That’s how I move.
"You Herd Wright"
These 2 are your classic echo chamber of agreeing with each other. No push back, no critical thought, just the you agree with me or you’re an idiot and do t deserve to speak. You should always question things especially when the media has openly lied about things. What’s the problem with asking questions? If you’re so solid in your answer and the facts then answering questions shouldn’t be a problem. Nick is a classic example of someone who loves to talk racism and race issues when that’s inherently something that is fluid and is different for everyone based on their experience so you’re gonna get different responses from different ppl regardless of your race. And it’s amazing to me they still have this level of trump derangement. Have they ever thought maybe half of the country think differently than they do? Does that mean 50% of the country is just dumb?
if u gonna put a mic in front of you. make sure it works ?
Pretty frustrating considering how much money he makes owning The Volume. Hire a sound tech Colin😂
Ant is extremely athletic and smooth. His shot is streaky and he has moves but not elite level handles. He’s just not close to being the best in the league yet. However the team is stacked and is allowed to play EXTREMELY physical so they are gonna try and push him as best ever and get him an early championship.
Nick channeling Scottie Scheffler with the orange colored shirt.
I love this duo. Interesting conversations.
Overton Window
Yep exactly
The direspecting to Tatum and the Celtics is crazy.
What year did they win a championship to be respected? They’re just saying that every other team that was knocking on the door this long usually has already won a title. If they don’t win this year it might get ugly in Boston
Agreed. It went from they're inconsistent to basically getting full on hated on by the media. And they just came through in the clutch which is what the media says they wanted to see
@@miguelmacias1322since when was winning a chip a requirement to respect someone? I guess you have zero respect for Allen Iverson, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, TMac, Vince Carter, Steve Nash, Reggie Miller, Stockton & Malone?
The 91-94 Bills of the NBA. But what was “disrespectful” about what these guys said about the Celtics? Saying Tatum is 8th best in league? Comparing him to Clyde Drexler? None of that is wrong. To those outside of Boston, as much as they respect that Boston is a very good team, NOBODY is scared of Tatum.
Those 2 are Cs haters until they win a chip, if they do win these 2 talking heads will change their stand as fast as they change their underwear.
Nick cannot stop interrupting
Sound is really bad
Realm. Nick was looking for the word realm
No, it was the Overton window.
An adult conversation about sports. refreshing. The tv show is great but this is 10x better.
These guys are GREAT together! Alone they're complete assholes but mutual dilution makes them tolerable!
Loving Nick forgetting what the Overton Window is called.
Yep
I would love to see these two with Paul pierce and Tim legler. Would be a fun interesting and knowledgeable foursome
I love when Colin gets ratiod and blasted on Twitter and then does this show and reiterates the points that got him owned on Twitter. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm a right wing liberal. I enjoyed the discussion on the state of political debate in our country. I absolutely agree that many will argue the "Cowboys won the Superbowl" when we have other facts.
On the insurrection... I was horrified. It's generally been the left that riots and loots. It sucks when it's your "team" that did that.
Colin said many claim the insurrection was a firework party gone a little sideways. I enjoyed that metaphor, but it has worked in reverse in many instances. Many on the left claim a murderous mob forced their way into the Capitol building in Trump's behalf.
The problem is, Colin, just like with the Bobby Knight story, we have video evidence of the guards waving for the crowd to approach the building, and holding the door as they filed in. There's also video of guards walking down the hallway with rioters.
I'm not saying it wasn't a tragedy. It got scary in there. We have video of bad things happening in the capitol that day, but to claim the capitol was "stormed" is just as dishonest and ridiculous as it would be to say the Cowboys won the Superbowl.
Facts have to have priority, and neither side actually cares about the facts. The left just wants to make Jan 6 the biggest tragedy since Slavery, and the Right wants to say it was only a picnic where someone scraped there knee. Both sides are ridiculous.
This is where Colin and Nick always lose me each episode. They say these things so matter of factly and they're rarely correct when it comes to anything political. They can believe anything they want politically but they're always taking the same potshots at one side of the issue being discussed and ignore the flaws of the other.
I think the implications that go along with an event like that are generally weighed pretty heavily
Right wing liberal? Explain that ….
@@persephone9360you mean having police wave you inside and staying inside the velvet ropes on a guided tour by police then being charged 30 years. You root for stalin...

1:15:55 that obviously cuts both ways. Bill Clinton would be run out of the democratic party today for about a hundred reasons, and those are just the political ones.
no he absolutely wouldn’t (politically)
As an individual of the younger generation. I fear Collin to be right, crazy will continue to be crazy. And people wont take it seriously until it's too late. Loved the discussion at the end!

1:02:40: The Overton window
Yep
I think Colin is way off about Hockey. Recently have gotten really into it and it’s so fun. Hockey Playoffs are the best playoffs in my opinion. So fast, so physical and really intense exciting moments.
I can’t wait for Colin to ask a question or intro a topic and not be able to finish what he’s saying 😂
Yeah because you know who is guaranteed to interrupt the entire hour! Smh
He couldn’t even wait more than 30 seconds to interrupt Colin , it’s insane how little self awareness he has for the interrupting he does
Great duo for sports talk! But when Nicole gets some wine in him he loves his Biden
STOP HATING ON TATUM GIVE RESPECT
Overton window!
I think that’s the word Nick you were looking for, Nick.
Best duo, love listening to you guys
Man I love this combo end I understand Nick gets excited but he cut Colin off quite a bit in this episode.
I'm a Celtics fan and I agree Lakers are the top team in the NBA and have more relevant titles to the current NBA league format of 30 teams and 16 playoff teams. But considering the Lakers moved to a state that has the weather and Hollywood advantage, the Celtics did pretty good having the same amount of titles but without these attractions.

37:28 limiting the number of weight classes in boxing might get people killed. It's different in MMA because they don't take as many punches to the head. I think that idea should be studied before it's implemented.
Colin, your echo is loud

10:26 good point by Colin on Tatum
Nicks story of telling his dad about the game Derrick Thomas was having, and him not believing him-- lol-- and his little comment of "was that the first time i ever proved my dad wrong?" Haha.. not only did that crack me up.. but it triggered a memory when i was about 10-12 years old, somewhere around 1999, my family went in a road trip vacation, and my dad and i were talking sports in the front seat... And we had lived in Phoenix early in my life, and Danny Manning had played for the Suns in the early 90s.. and my dad made a comment about "yea he was a really good player at K-State"... And i said "no, dad, he played for the KU Jayhawks." And he questioned me and dismissed it, but i KNEW i was right! Lol. And when i got home i went and got one of my trading cards (cuz those used to be cool, ya know) and showed him his bio on the back, and it said he went to KU.. and my dad gave me a look ill never forget, like, "how did you know that and i didn't!?" Kind of look .. and i remember it being the first time i ever proved my dad wrong. Lol. Great comment
Colin, love ya buddy but you are butchering that quote. “Tough times create strong men, strong men create easy times, easy times create weak men. Weak men create tough times.”
You guys should do a show together.
Because Nick and Colin are SO incredibly smart I enjoy listening to all of their perspectives, including when they veer into politics. But because they are SO incredibly smart it proves the point that people who are focused on sports should probably not talk politics. Wright says that Reagan would be "run out [of the Republican party] on a rail" because he said, "We're a country for all people." I mean, if you listen to current Republicans, including Trump, they say basically the same thing! And Colin talking about J6 and saying, "we watched it!" Dude... you watched specially selected clips! Had you watched other specially selected clips you'd have a completely different impression! What the current media lacks, whether left or right, is nuance. Most sports commentators don't have time to think about political nuance and should probably just stick with their area of expertise.
Yup I thought the same thing when Nick was talking about Reagan. I do wonder if they had more time or could be more honest if they would admit that if someone pressed them on it
Why can these guys not talk sports without talking about politics and embarrassing themselves? It’s so excruciatingly clear they have zero idea what they’re talking about and have nothing in common with a normal voter. Please stop, it hurts
Watching these two rich, pro-establishment guys talk about politics is AWFUL
So don’t watch it?
Love Nick but his argument for Lebron and against Jordan because Jordan had Jackson goes in direct opposition to his take on Mahomes and Reid. Nick already thinks that Mahomes is the best ever and he already puts Reid in the top 5 category with a chance to be the goat if he wins more SBs.
I've never understood Nick's affinity for LeBron so nice to hear the back story
