When i built my PVC pipe gates, i bought a few meters of elastic rope. Thread it all the way through the pipe, knot it through a hole at the ends. That way, to put the gate up, just unfold and it almost pulls itself together like one of the popup gates. When you take it down at the end of the day, you can just pull the connectors apart, fold it together and it still stays as a single piece.
I think I’m finally going to pvc pipes but lately I’ve been using my metal badminton post as gates. I’ve also used real skinny and flat dowel rods and reflective driveway marks (the things in grass that mark the curb on snowy days). The dowel rods and driveway marks are nice since they just wiggle around if you hit them and don’t cause too much damage to the drone. Great video!
On a smaller scale, LED whoop gates are ridiculously easy and cheap to make in all sorts of shapes, I made a set that looked like Pac Man and the 4 ghosts, each with appropriately coloured LEDs. All you need is garden wire make the shapes with, circle, square etc., and some blocks of wood as bases to nail them to, wrapping the LEDs round the garden wire before attaching to the block.
If you use bolts & nuts to hold your gates together you can disassemble your gates to make a pole to get your quad out of a tree. Don't ask how many times I've had to do it...
I use pool nuddles with PVC pipe in it can get a 15 foot ladder gate with 3 5x5 foot gate and are super cheap and the best color are the fluorescent colors
Have you tried bending the PVC to get cool shapes? If you had some large circular object you could maybe use a heat gun and bend the PVC pipe around the circle. Another advantage of the PVC pipes is if you have a 3D printer you can print custom joints and just slide the pipes into them. It might help if you need to mount the gates to an unusual object rather than just sit them on the ground.
For LEDs, battery powered can be pretty convenient. Those run about $5 (Garden Ridge, Hobby Lobby), come in multiple colors, and fit perfectly in a standard short PEX tubing (LED strip doubled I think).
I've been making whoop gates for less than 30¢ by using bamboo skewers and 3d printed hinges. Triangular, square, hexagon, stackable... Too bad I'm terrible at flying a whoop 😉
Shaun does what he does best, makes fun for us pilots. 👍👍

I posted how to make them on RCGroups back in 2017, look for
"Build Log DIY £2 indoor FPV LED racing gates for micro quads"
I use hulahoops from the dollar store with LED lights inside them. Works great and is super cheap.
Great tips!
This engineer loves watching Shaun build these!
Thank you for the video !
Great video Shawn!
Thanks for sharing!
Pvc kicks butt!!! I got a big dive gate in my yard. I love pvc also use it for alot of fishing projects like a bait cage frame
Definitely appreciate these kinds of videos, useful info and straightforward tutorial - thanks!
Buuuuaaaugh! Let's go to HDepot!
Great Vid!
That’s cool. I’m inspired 👊🏻
Yes! Use the floor as your friend!
PEX gates FTW for round LED whoop gates. (Use the clear-ish stuff, not the colored pipe)
I’ve built the PEX hoops and they work great. If I recall the standard white short length sold was perfect (no need to cut). LEDs show very brightly
Excelente vídeo 💯👍🏻🔥...
OUTSTANDING🏋️♂️🏌️♂️🛸🚀
Cool.
Exelent stuff !

I paint the pool noodles with white wall/ceiling paint to make them easier to see.
Nice
Diiiiveee gate!!

You can change the light red to green when the race starts
You need to re-make this video! its a gem
Woo-hoo led Light Sabers 🚦😎
ОЧЕНЬ КРУТО!!!

What soccer bets did you use? I’ve been trying to find some for a while
Instead of 4 gates straight down you should stagger them so you have to steer through them
pvc pipes are great..until you start to go hard, already cracked 2 of them in like 4 weeks lol
is he saying PDC or PVC?
Thanks dad!
What pop up gates did you use?
These are the Soccer Goals Shawn used to make them! a.co/d/iScOwtp

Okay flitetest...
