When I look for extraneous solutions, I always check what x can NOT equal to. That way, if it's one of my answers, I know its extraneous. Still check other solutions, though, to be sure.
A bit late of course but you have much simpler algerbra, where factoring doesn’t come into account, so not really the same. This is much, much more complex.

6:11 instead of replacing the middle term you could save a ton of time by dividing -5 and -9 by the constant and you'll have your answers.
