George wasn't really into writing songs in the early years. It wasn't until the White album that he got the bug to writing songs. When he started hanging out with Eric Clapton.
It is what it was. I often thought if they continued to tour, with a much more massive sound system where they could be heard, (and hear themselves play), they could have gone on. With Brian Epstein to hold them together for short, limited tours. It would have been amazing to hear the later Beatles play live! Even with all the studio effects, many of the songs could have been played live with back-up musicians!

He downplays it here of course but the ordeal really frightened him as it was probably the first time his mouth had gotten him into such deep water. His interview with Maureen Cleave meant that the other three were being hounded because of it to the point that Epstein virtually ordered him to apologise. In context, it was just a storm in a teacup made worse by some US DJ refusing to play their records and rounding up public support in the name of religion.
