    Excellent video. Very thorough.
    I've seen some bad reviews regarding the trans in particular. Which put me off a bit. After watching this (a couple of times now) I feel pretty confident to buy one and do this fix from the get go. Been wanting one since I saw the first version in the early 90s.
    I've seen some vids w metal-gear conversions but I'm not sure. Anyway. Great stuff! Cheers from Sweden!
    Edit: on my truck there was a copper bushing towards the sprocket, so no spacers were needed there. I used a 0.40 mm shim on the rear. Worked great. Also had to re-adjust the gear-mesh a bit since it was quite off from the factory. So far so good. 👍🏻

    Ben, I too want to know the size of the washers. I have a nitro USA-1 still in the box new never ran yet as I have seen several videos of transmission problems with this unit, your video has given me the how to fix a problem should one occurs. Please share location and size of washers or shims. Great video very detailed.

    excellent video Ben!, definitely the most comprehensive video on this truck in terms on it's known transmission issues
    I cant thank you enough for responding to my comment in the last video, and then going out of your way to make such an in depth video with all the tips and pointers
    you're the first one to point out the importance of removing the protective coating on the transmission from the factory using a solvent such as acetone as well as using anti seize as the lubricant most other videos recommend white lithium which i suspect is "sticky" as you described and a poor choice in this case as it will attract dust and dirt, also the tips on shiftpoint adjustment were a great bonus!
    thanks again Ben, looking forward to your future RC videos

    Hi Ben, thnx for this great video and step by step instructions! I just bought this great truck, didn't drive it yet and I was kind of surprised about this issue. You don't expect such major issues on a new model. However looking at the exploded view in my manual I see the 6x13x1 shim at the rear support is already installed. Did Kyosho watch your video and solved the problem you think? This shim was not there in your model initially right? In that case maybe I don't have to do anything? Thanks for your reply! Regards, Mark (the Netherlands)

    @m1pistonhead appreciate your videos on this truck! Any idea why I can’t hit the throttle on mine? If I go any more than maybe half throttle, it acts like it’s in neutral w/ super high RPM and no forward movement. I’d think it’s a shift issue, but per your video it sounds like 1st gear is always engaged? I just finished the break in so I can’t imagine I broke anything. Thanks again!

    Hey... I really want the MT... but I've already read a lot about the problems with the transmission... so is the problem that the transmission has too much play between the bridge... and is that solved with the washers? And why do you grease the clutches inside?

    How is your transmission holding up? On my USA-1 the inside of my gear-3 stripped. So, I just replaced every part of the 3-speed with Kyosho replacement parts, but I might switch to the steel-gears available on Ebay.

    When I start my mad force and am about to drive away so when you press the throttle it does not want to roll forward and the engine sounds strained, when you release the throttle and accelerate again it slams and then it can run. Does anyone here know what it could be? there is nothing wrong with the clutch I have checked, and the car rolls perfectly as long as you do not start it
    do you know what the problem is?

    • @m1pistonhead

    • @m1pistonhead
      @m1pistonhead  2 роки тому

      It depends how much you drive and in what conditions. If you drive in dirt or snow or mud a lot then I would do it every 10 tanks or so. Or...when it starts sticking shifts again.

    • @m1pistonhead
      @m1pistonhead  2 роки тому

      @@philipsalamone8541 Personally I wouldn't use either of those. Both will tend to attract dirt and will wear away quickly. I chose to use anti seize because it will stay in place a long time without attracting dirt.

    Are these specific sized washers or just random?

    • @m1pistonhead
      @m1pistonhead  2 роки тому +1

      I had these laying around in my huge selection of washers so I don't know the specific size. I will say the washers on each end of the transmission will probably differ from truck to truck. However, the thin washer between the transmission and rear post needs to be very thin and have the same inner diameter as the trans shaft. With the end washers the main goal is to eliminate any end play between the shaft and posts while aligning the gears to the clutch.

  • @philipsalamone8541
    @philipsalamone8541 2 роки тому

    Just took mine apart..inner 3rd gear is all scored up after about a quart

    • @m1pistonhead
      @m1pistonhead  2 роки тому

      You should probably replace the third gear in that case. The poor factory set adjustment and sticky shift mechanism likely caused that so early.

    • @chadanderson2486
      @chadanderson2486 2 роки тому

      Shift cams suck. They are never presicision machined. Kyosho shafts are soft junk. With the right materials and machining this can work so much better. And get some support on the nose of the clutch bell gears!!!!

    Piece of junk. Reminds me of the sandmaster Mt that I once had. Even 10th scale nitro cars have metal clutch/gear transmissions. Kyosho really screwed everyone with this turd. They used the cheapest parts and materials on this one. Trans gears aren't supposed to be wear items. I bet it gets discontinued soon.
