I started the water pump replacement on my 97 Tacoma 4WD XtraCab but decided to see the job on UA-cam. It's exactly as I imagined but it's great to have the confirmation. Thank you very much for taking the time to share this to help others. Much appreciated.
Great Job, thanks for the video. I was cracking up while listening though. Anyone tell you your voice sounds like "The Ladies Man". Don't take that as an insult. That made the video even better.
Nice video. One thing, you don't have to disconnect the battery because you can't get shocked from DC (12 V) battery unless there is some kind of inductor discharaging when you connect it. ...but this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
LOL, No, have not heard that one before. I do have a humor side, maybe I'll try to put a little funny "spin" on my future video's to make them a little more interesting. Thanks for watching.
Hey Robert great video. My sister has a 2000 Toyota 4 Runner that loos exactly like this 1999 version. My question is does the engine have to be on to notice the water pump is leaking or can in be bad enough that as soon as you pour water/fluid in the radiator it gushes out like a waterfall?
excellent video. I have a 1997 4 cylinder 4Runner. I suspect my water pump might be bad too. I have a squeak on my belts from a coolant leak somewhere. I suspect the water pump is leaking, but I have to take a closer look. I also have a misfire in cylinder 1. Can a busted water pump cause a misfire?
Robert DIY Yeah your right, the spark plugs needed to be replaced. Anyways my water pump is shot. You glossed over the hardest part of the job which is getting those damn belts off. How did you do that?!
Robert DIY Did you take the bolts all the way off that tensioner on the alternator? And then what it slides and it comes right off? What a horrible design!
Robert DIY How did you ever remove those fan bolts with that pully spinning around? Jamming a screw driver in there was all it took for you? It didn't damage the pully? this thing is going to fight me the entire way.
hey robert i have a question i changed the radiator on my 1995 toyota 4runner but now there is a new problem there is water leaking by the thermostat housing not sure if its the thermostat or waterpump. the location where the water is coming from is kinda by the front of oil pan right above there is the thermostat housing coolant is coming from there. any ideas what it can be ?
Robert DIY So far it didn't over heat i took it to a mechanics and they said it was the water pump so im going to try it tonight wish me luck and thanks robert !
+Justin Habetz I also have a '97 model and it is exactly the same as the model in this video. A side note to other DIY video makers: this is how it's done. Brief and to the point, covering all details and adding a few good tips where applicable. Thank you RobertDIY.
Would this be the same for a 97 4runner? They seem to be the same model. I have a continuous shrieking noise when my car is running and it doesnt stop.
Yes it does. The motor is shaped in a V pattern, 3 cylinders on one side and 3 cylinders on the other side. Some motors are I6, meaning all 6 cylinders are in 1 row.
The only video for the 2.7 4 cyl on you tube so thanks for taking the time! exactly what I needed to see!!
Glad it's there. Thanks for watching.

Depends on how bad the water pump is.
Nice job 👏
Thanks 😁

Loosened the tensioners.

Did you overheat the engine? Maybe you blew the head gasket.
Robert DIY So far it didn't over heat i took it to a mechanics and they said it was the water pump so im going to try it tonight wish me luck and thanks robert !
I have a 97 v6 4Runner, is it basically the same? Can I still use this video? Thanks.
Justin Habetz I'm not sure. Check wiki pages.

Thanks for your kind words.
Would this be the same for a 97 4runner? They seem to be the same model. I have a continuous shrieking noise when my car is running and it doesnt stop.
Probably a tensioner or roller.
I have a 1999 4runner. Doesn't v6 mean 6 cylinder?
Yes it does. The motor is shaped in a V pattern, 3 cylinders on one side and 3 cylinders on the other side. Some motors are I6, meaning all 6 cylinders are in 1 row.
Thanks Mate !
You are welcome
I have a 2006 4runner changed the water pump and thermostat. Now it's using water but can't find any leaks
Ouch
Probably just burping air and sucking in coolant from the overflow tank. Give it a week of long driving. It should stop "using" coolant.
and the 4 cylinder is a 2.7, the model name is 3rz
Roger McBride Cool, thanks for watching and sharing. - www.gofundme.com/n49rw0
I am not sure but I think it was a 2.0.
How do I remove the fan with out the belt turning. To take off the 4 screws
Bump it.
Robert DIY I finished it works great. Next I have to flush the system
Is that a 2.4 L motor ?
Same thing, just the cylinders are fatter
I have one to say, that's a beautiful fan SHROD. Jk
LOL, thanks for watching.
