  • I first came across these at the age of 5 at a Methodist Guild Hotel in Grange Over Sands in Cumbria. They told little me that it did not work but it soon did.
Come forward by about 50 years and I came across another one. These are a short superhet radiogram from about 1952. I got the record player working but the radio - no go due to an Open Circuit coil. I tried.
Some factory design errors here. Using the spare pins of the rectifier for audio only for example. Pye stuff and Me just don't seem to get on. Every engineer has blind spots and I think Pye is one of mine!

I always found that warning about leaving a record on stationary turntable may cause it to warp quite amusing.
You'd have to leave it on there for a great length of time for it to warp which would also mean the set being on
un attended for a serious time which i suppose many people did which i have always thought very dangerous
for a valve appliance left alone in on. Why every valve record player and radiogram had a on/off pilot light installed!

Well with it off No …. But then a lot don’t have the amp under the chassis anyway ! It is not good practice though. And why not - well Cost !
