Nick Wright said it best, to paraphrase. "This idea that the nba in the 80's and 90's was like the Roman gladiators in the coliseum is idiotic. Nba in the 80's and 90's was slightly more physical with much worse athletes"
So let me get this, the whole “zero step”, palming, carrying, freedom of movement, landing space, flopping, traveling, jacking 3s, load managing, lacking fundamentals, foul baiting, less back to back games, an extra playoff spot and even a participation trophy championship to beg viewers to watch is the “superior” era? 😂😂😂
This era isn’t trash but I agree Jordan is 100 percent the goat but don’t bring down other eras to bring up the others or you’ll end up looking as bad as them
@@skap_attackI personally can't forgive a fan base , that makes excuses for a so-called GOAT!!! He couldn't close out players like Jason Terry and JJ Barrea. Facts. The Premier League is still as strong as ever. The NFL still pulls in more American viewers than any other sport. The NBA is the one major sport that lacks consistent excitement, because Adam Silver is the worst commissioner in sports history.

@skap_attack It's funny how people are not fan of the sports of basketball but are fan of some superstar and are getting butt hurt when their beloved star are being criticized (Jordan, kobe, or LeBron ) As an french guy who discovered basketball through vhs video like "come fly with me " , "NBA Jam session " " NBA superstar 2 and 3" " Michael Jordan playground " and also matching the dream team live I was in love with American basketball ; when I started playing the game I remembered I was butt hurt when my old French coach criticized the NBA saying it's not real basketball it's just a show because the refs didn't call al the traveling , carrying etc for the game to be more entertaining to the fan !!! It was in the 90's and an old basketball fan couldn't stand the NBA just like us old fan now can't stand modern NBA!!!! I will says that I'm a spurs fan and 1999 I was so happy when Robinson and Duncan win their first title but this final had the lowest viewership at that time , Jordan had retired and nobody wanted to watch a game that final score was 80-67 .... So yeah the nba that you have today is because the 90's didn't want to watch game when their idols Jordan retired !
LeBron and this era literally pushed millions of people away from NBA basketball. Foreigners like Giannis, Embiid, Luka, & Jokic are doing more to grow the sport now as half of the league's top players are not American. LeBron is still one of the game's most popular players because networks like ESPN will continuously shove him down viewers throats even if basketball fans don't want to watch him play. That's why they must make conscious efforts to talk down on every past era and great player, while constantly comparing LeBron to Jordan because MJ is who truly moves the needle.
You're absolutely right. Let's also not forget that the foreigners these days are substantially more skilled and actually play harder than any of the entitled American born players currently. The global takedown of the NBA is already in full swing. Top 5 players are not from here, give it another 5 years and it will be the top 10-15.
I remember when guys like Lebron would laugh and talk about 'you play good for a white guy'. Now I guess the new saying is 'you're pretty good for a black American, I guess.' Love it.

As a 17 year old for legal reasons I do not associate myself with my generation. MJ is the real and undisputed GOAT. Also did you see that LeBum left the game against the Kings four minutes early? Pathetic
All these delusional old heads in these comments, desperately grasping at their bygone era as Jordan is dethroned. I understand them, they grew up watching what they think is the pinnacle of basketball, they think Jordan is Black Jesus. It's generation bias and it will always be around. But, a 17 year old? Lol, if players in the 90's could shoot threes, like it's nothing, and space the floor like players today, do you think they would be great defenders????😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@therabbitify Draymond has more career threes than Bird lmao not saying Green is a better shooter but Bird is not spacing the floor like modern players are
More so because of officiated and how fake it looks but it’s way more entertaining than anything in the 90s most of the players out there were actually bad.
But they all say these are “super” Athletes but 2 of the most non athletic player has been dominating the league???!!! So MJ played against plumbers and electricians but the plumber and electrician is winning MVP’s and championship
Yeah, but it's not really the players itself. People shoot 3s cuz it's most effective. Does it suck? Yes. I hate when game is just about shooting 3s. But it's not really on players if it's most effective. Not sure about solutions if we should put 3s line further away or something, but there are some stuff about game itself, that it changed a lot and players are not really at fault there. You cant say to Curry stop shooting 3s if it's working. So it's a problem, obviously. Also offence is at it's highest ever, it's more difficult to defend the faster/better offensive players are. Again, there are many issues, but telling that players themself suck won't change anything nor is smart to do, as they do what works and gives wins. Is more on league management to change rules/game to make it more appealing to fans to watch it.
Gen Z is literally the goofball association. Best thing ever is when they tell you LeBalco is better than Kobe cause of individual stats, then you tell em that according to that logic, Doncic is better than LeBalco, and they fall back to championships. @comradeyellow6781 Here we go again. 2007 Possibly the worst team to ever make it to the finals outside of Lebron. He averaged 22, 7 and 7 for the series. Nobody choked, and Lebron didn't play bad, the dynasty Spurs were just better 2011 He choked. The only finals he'll do this. 2012 Won the championship while being the best on his team. D Wade averaged 22, 6, and 5, Lebron averaged 28, 10, and 7. Won finals MVP 2013 Beat the Spurs while being the best on his team. He actually started out playing sub-par, but during the last four games of the series only had games with more than 25 points, stepping up his game when it mattered most. He averaged 25, 10, and 7 for this series. Won finals MVP again. 2014 Had to face one of the greatest teams in basketball history and still put up 28, 8, and 4 while the everyone else on his team averaged less than 16 points. His team was just outmatched. 2015 Faced another one of the greatest teams of all time with much less help. Lebron averaged 36, 13, and 9. He physically could not have done any more. 2016 3-1 comeback while averaging 30, 11, and 9. He even averaged 36 during the last 3 games. Won Finals MVP 2017 I swear this dude only plays against dynasties in the finals. But anyway, this year he played against THE greatest team of all time but still managed to average 33, 12, and 10. That's actually nuts 2018 Lost to basically the same team, this time without the help of Kyrie. He still put up 34, 10, and 9 a game though. 2020 Won an admittedly easy ring during the bubble, but a ring's a ring. He did average 30, 12, and 9 and win Finals MVP though. Saying his career is "full of chokes" is literally objectively wrong. Just look at the stats. Saying "no legitimate rings" when a 3-1 comeback is staring you in the face is just insane.
The 90's was peak basketball, peak culture and peak life as a whole. We should counter with "We done with the 20's" which has been filled with absolute incompetence with not just sports but social culture as a whole and we not even midway through this train wreck.
I can sympathize with fans who would rather not watch teams shoot so many three-pointers. As far as the early 2000s go it was not uncommon for teams even the good ones to miss shot after shot after shot after shot. When 2 teams shot well from the field it was a blessing from the heavens. I remember reading an article about 90s basketball. Points were being lower than the 80s and today was not solely because of pace alone. The field goal percentages league wide were atrocious. Horrendous! So bad that league officials would actually meet several times to discuss how fix it. It was akin to watching NFL games 30 years ago before the passing era. A lot of games were played in which neither side could run the ball very well. It would make for a boring game. So many 3 and outs. Wasn't very entertaining. That's why the league opted to transition to the passing game. The NBA did the same with the 3. And the MLB did the same with the home run. Unfortunately while trying to make their leagues more entertaining they wound up dumbing down and oversimplifying the game.
I still don't understand how this guy got into the GOAT debate. Lost an NBA finals dropping to 22ppg, then twice in a row was on the number one seed and lost to the third and fouth seeds in the playoffs, then got back to the finals and had a meltdown vs the Mavs. Then lost another 4 chips. Has struggled to be above .500 with the Lakers. Seriously, when the f*ck did we start aguing for 'goats' who have so many negatives in their career?
He's popular, so the NBA will push him to the media and run with that. Hence the stat padding they're allowing him to get on with before he leaves. NBA trying to show that they can make GOAT's when they see fit.
People always say that players now are more skilled but forget that Iverson, Maravich and Jordan were not allowed to carry and travel as much. Todays players wouldn't dominate the earlier decades, they would be called for carrying every play.
When comparing era we also have to compare modern medicine and training into the equation. People just imagine LeBron wouod run rough shed in the 80s using 80s technology. He spends more money today than stars were getting paid back then just on cryogenic machines for his body and shit 😂

Its also why they came up with the phrase, makes the correct basketball play. No other player was that said for in nba history. But they needed a way to explain why LeBron likes to pass the ball out of his hands in the clutch
It easily cover the turd in the cat box, without admitting Jordan taking those shots IS the correct basketball move. And they say it like they forgot how they try to call out Jordan for passing to Paxson and Kerr.
EXACTLY RIGHT! When was it EVER about making the "correct basketball play"?? It was more so Alphas going hero ball in isolation. For better or worse, THAT is what the responsibility of the great players was.
@JeffVan604 he loves protecting his FG percentage. I've seen games where he went super passive. Like if you know he was on the court you'd miss him. You definitely wouldn't think he's the best player on the court. The commentators would say oh maybe LeBron is under the weather. If LeBron was sick he'd let the whole world know. Truth was he wasn't feeling his outside shot. If LeBron isn't feeling his shot, he goes super passive to protect his shooting percentage.
I only get my basketball content from here. This is the only channel that tells it how it is. Best commentary, best cuts and best music. Keep it up 👏👏👏👏👏
They were too young to see MJ play, and they're enjoying their Infinite Tsukuyomi dream of this era, created by the narratives and sensationalism of the Klutch Sports media machine.

Lebixxh, Lehype, Leloser, Lequit, Lemedia, Lepawn, Leburger King and one of my new favorites Lebalco James, will be a fkn ghost.
You putting way too much effort into those words while trying to make bron look small lmao. Also who knows, you think it that way, but after 50 years there will be 98% of people who never seen MJ played and only biggest fans might watch it back. But who knows how basketball will look in 50 years. Even when I was growing and playing, we had tons of action near the rim, now people just shoot 3s for most part. That's shit for me to play and shit to watch, but that's what works and thats why they do it. If rules won't get changed it will go to that even more, which would be bad, as I think for watching purpose it was much better more physicality near the rim, but it's not really on the players to change the rules, as long shooting 3s works, they will keep doing it

Dunno about fans, sounds more like haters who hate lebron. Outside basketball he said a lot of bs and flopping aint making him more respectful, however only idiot or someone who doesn't understand anything about basketball can say lebron is trash. He is player who makes one of/biggest impact for almost 2 decades soon in the league. I don't like him much as a person, but saying he isn't amazing and on of all time best is just ridiculous. Same as saying he wouldn't do as good in 90s basketball as it was way more physical. Holy moly, he is probably best physically prepared player in who knows how many years, how physical era would be an issue for him? Because he cries about fouls? Well he prolly would still cry about them, just after being hit more, but he is last person to think who couldn't play physical basketball.
@Lokalo1 why did you write this comment again? Like why write this at all? This was about how the present generation just flat out disrespects the past players for paving the way
It’s a last ditched attempt to crown LeBron as the GOAT. They know that LeBron will not surpass MJ, so they have to discredit the era that MJ played in.

Without those era of basketball like the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, & of course the 2000s we didn't get this kind of basketball today. All that I can say is that what ever the era is, we need to appreciate greatness while it still can
Unfortunately, most of your generation isn’t this wise and appreciative of what came before them. Most 18 year olds know nothing before like 2015. Respect.
You making up fantasy isn't going to change reality. MJ is still the greatest to ever play the game and this is without all the flopping and being the traveling pants player who needs to build a super team to win championships. He can pump up his scoring to whatever, he can have that, but he'll never be the goat. 20 years and 4 rings, yikes. In a league that's as soft as tissue paper, where two of the best players are the least athletic players seen since the 50's. Ayo bus drivers giving the current NBA hell and both are foreigners, NBA has been reduced to scrubs. When the dream team got clapped overseas, should have known that was the beginning of the end. Mediocre basketball association!
Please make a “we done with the 2020s video”. Viewership ratings of today compared to the 90s shows that “the trash ass 90s” was more entertaining to watch
Well it was more entertaining to watch, even though skill level was lower, that's a fact. Though, not sure why NBA not doing anything to change this. Watching how people throwing 3s is not fun, I agree. Although if you have great shooters and it's more efficient why not to do it? I mean you can think about it as always best showcasing is extremes. If you have someone shooting 3s with 100% accuracy there is no point shooting 2s right? And we are at the era where shooters are best we ever had, they shoot on average higher percent than any other era, plus often shooting 2 steps away from 3 point line, which as far as I know wasn't really a thing before and still having higher %. What we need is some change in rules, as current basketball sucks for watching even though players are faster and stronger and more accurate which is really sad. Even playing outside myself I feel how game changed, people avoid physical contact more, shoot 3s way more. That's less than for me to play, though they shoot 3s better than when I was young. Also ppl did shoot a lot from mid field, they do that way less nowadays and I guess it kind of makes sense, either you shoot from closer distance or you shoot 3s, but it was very popular 15 years ago to shoot mid distance. Things change, sadly it changed so much that I prefer to watch football instead basketball, but that's not cuz players are bad, is more like they shoot too good 3s so that's most what they do and it's boring.

Idiots love to hate on the 90s, and push a baseless belief in players being superior, yet their hero is still playing "great" 21 years later. If today's Era were genuinely superior then James wouldn't be able to compete logically.
The idea that Jordan had no left is preposterous. I was there. I saw it with my own eyes. He could go either way and finish with either hand with ease. Sad for those too young to know any better so they take these revisionists’ words for it
Hey snapped there is footage of jordan finishing with left times and dunking the ball with his left if you can show the footage the 93 nba finals jordan finished with his left multiple times
This era of NBA is trash! And if they are done with the 90s, let em also be done with those multi million dollar super max contracts that if not for Jordan and 90s, NBA players today wouldn’t be getting 💩
Kobe did a interview saying European players were learning the game the right way and American players weren't focusing on fundamentals. So the current state of the game should be of no surprise. Kobe saw where it was headed. The nba is the weakest sports league we have in terms of competition and thats a fact.
We need to be spreading the reality that we have entered the New Plumber era where defense doesn't matter and points are heavy inflated. Maybe it needs a new catchy name but any recent stats from today's games I give as much worth to as the dudes in the 50s/60s

As an french guy who discovered basketball through vhs video like "come fly with me " , "NBA Jam session " " NBA superstar 2 and 3" " Michael Jordan playground " and also matching the dream team live I was in love with American basketball ; when I started playing the game I remembered I was butt hurt when my old French coach criticized the NBA saying it's not real basketball it's just a show because the refs didn't call al the traveling , carrying etc for the game to be more entertaining to the fan !!!
This is the best comment on this video. Well said.
Now I guess the new saying is 'you're pretty good for a black American, I guess.'

80s and 90s made the game go worldwide. The current era is turning fans away. The ratings dont lie.

Possibly the worst team to ever make it to the finals outside of Lebron. He averaged 22, 7 and 7 for the series. Nobody choked, and Lebron didn't play bad, the dynasty Spurs were just better
2011
He choked. The only finals he'll do this.
2012

2013
Beat the Spurs while being the best on his team. He actually started out playing sub-par, but during the last four games of the series only had games with more than 25 points, stepping up his game when it mattered most. He averaged 25, 10, and 7 for this series. Won finals MVP again.
2014
Had to face one of the greatest teams in basketball history and still put up 28, 8, and 4 while the everyone else on his team averaged less than 16 points. His team was just outmatched.
2015
Faced another one of the greatest teams of all time with much less help. Lebron averaged 36, 13, and 9. He physically could not have done any more.
2016
3-1 comeback while averaging 30, 11, and 9. He even averaged 36 during the last 3 games. Won Finals MVP
2017
I swear this dude only plays against dynasties in the finals. But anyway, this year he played against THE greatest team of all time but still managed to average 33, 12, and 10. That's actually nuts
2018
Lost to basically the same team, this time without the help of Kyrie. He still put up 34, 10, and 9 a game though.
2020
Won an admittedly easy ring during the bubble, but a ring's a ring. He did average 30, 12, and 9 and win Finals MVP though.

From the year of 1980-roughly 2011, the NBA was an amazing product. After 2011, it has been going straight down hill.
@@skap_attack I grew up watching the NBA when Jordan was on the Wizards, so I have a bias for the 2000s. You had players preventing Shaq from scoring when they were much smaller than him, which is impressive.
The NBA has never been more skilled than it is right now. The only reason people dont like todays of basketball is because people hate Lebron James that much. Im fine with complaints about the All Star game because thats valid to complain about. Guys need to play harder. But to say that guys dont play hard in the regular season when games matter is ridiculous. If you turn on any NBA game you will see players all north of 6'6 hitting threes with guys draped all over them. Its harder to play defense, its not a lack of defense. You didnt have to cover the width of the court in the 90s. There was like 2-3 threats to score on the entire floor at the most. Now every player can shoot and go north of 40% from three on any given night. Get over it. @@skap_attack
@@skap_attack I can sympathize with fans who would rather not watch teams shoot so many three-pointers. And the MLB did the same with the home run Unfortunately while trying to make their leagues more entertaining they wound up dumbing down and oversimplifying the game.
@@skap_attackNah after 2015 it’s when it started. In 2016 when they suspended Green is when things got suspicious
The whole "Jordan doesn't have a left" is weird because MJ has some of the most iconic left plays in NBA history. 89 "The Shot" on Ehlo, going left. 91 Finals switch hands mid-air layup, finishes with his left. 98 championship shot over Russell, crossed over to his left for the pull up. That's off the top of my head.

As for fatherless, I know there are tons of fatherless kids growing in america, especially black community, but is there any actual statistics that there are more players from such background? Not like there were no fatherless children back then. Curious if there is any stats about it, as it ain't relevant, but prolly isn't even right statistically as current competition is as high as ever, almost half NBA is not even american players, so that would imply children need to prepare and invest more money into it more nowadays to get to NBA, which is hard to do if your father is absent. @@kaybigg

The NBA wouldn't even be as powerful or relevant today if it weren't for the MJ (and later Kobe) era of basketball. These guys need to be grateful for what we got.
You mean "had", referee ball is what is left now.
These kids do this with literally everything that came before them.
The levels of insecurity these kids have is insane, and it's so bad all they do is attempt to tear down what came before.
When I was growing up, we celebrated all the film, music and sports that came before us, and we incorporated it into what we were currently into, not just hate it because it wasn't produced in our era.
Of course, the 90's produced some of the best music, film, television and sports ever watched or listened to.
It's why we have a good eye for bullshit, and accept no less than the ACTUAL best.
All of the hate just comes from insecurity that they know they can't live up. The things we are seeing in sports in general are so often a microcosm for society as a whole. BUT social media has never been as big of a factor as it is today. And of course the kids are running that currently.

@@Lokalo1 because they jack up more 3s today, you say today’s players is more skilled? I disagree
