They are not even insults to begin with. The NBA today is just absolutely atrocious. The 90s and 2000s NBA was actually good, and Adam Sipver ruined everything David Stern did corrently.
Direct insults I think should be called. You dont want players cussing out referees all game just because they are frustrated. But just criticizing and questioning refs shouldnt be a foul for sure. And taunting should definitely be allowed, it makes the game more interesting for everyone.
my biggest problem with officiating is that often times both teams arent given the same treatment, if you're gonna call something a foul on one end, do it on the other one, too...

Zone was played all the way back in the 80s. There is very clear cut footage of zone being used to defend Dr J. The Pistons openly talked about using zone on MJ. It was used consistently throughout the 90s.
@coldsnap5742 It’s common knowledge if you’re not new to the game or under the age of 25. I just hate that it’s used as a reason to try and elevate modern players. Like no, it has been used all throughout the modern game. The main defensive changes that occurred were 3 sec and hand checking (the video creator got that part right).
Narrator's correct that zone was illegal until after 01. The old "illegal defense" violation was basically that - team got caught trying to play zone. The legalization of zone and implementation of defensive 3 secs went hand in hand; the idea was to boost scoring. I remember not quite understanding how that made any sense - and really, it didn't, not for the 2001 NBA - but maybe the league was smarter than I gave them credit for and knew that teams would adjust over time and start prioritizing long distance shooting. The "zone" that was being used on Doc, MJ, etc. was a combination of 1) 80s/90s halfcourt floor spacing that allowed defenders to help more easily w/o being far enough away from your actual assignment to get called for it, and 2) flat out illegal defense that didn't get called. Unless you were up against someone like Reggie Miller, perimeter defenders would play like 10 feet off their guy and the refs were good with it. So I mean, you're not wrong that teams played zone before the 01 rule changes, but the narrator isn't wrong about the rule changes.
But it was illegal, same thing with hand checking todays, it’s illegal but it happens every games, you can’t defend a Lebron, a Zion, Giannis, Jokic, Embiid or ANT without putting your hands on them, just look at Jokic scares on his arms …
Many rules from handchecking to continuation are written to be judged "at the referees discretion", and were never "made illegal" nor "legal"as people assume(d). Zone was illegal and called a foul. Prior to the rule change MJ himself said it would slow him down. If teams were able to play zone defenses, he said, he never would have had the career he did." I'll believe MJ over some rando on the internet.
I'll always bring up the HUGE changes that have happened to dribbling and what is considered traveling or holding the ball, every single play in todays game would be a foul just 10-15 years ago, not to mention 20+. This video doesn't even come close to showcasing how crazy it is. People act like players are just better at ball handling but in reality the vast majority of it is just that the player in possession of the ball can basically do whatever they want with the ball now giving them much more ability to make crazy plays. Its super interesting looking at all the rules changes for dribbling over the years and seeing breakdowns of what used to be called as travel, highly recommend anybody to look into it.

brunson and hart went on hot ones versus and brunson actually gave a couple good ideas. the first was that apparently refs get punished but we just dont know about it so he wants to make that public the same way the players punishments are. his 2nd idea that i thought was good was giving them more time off because refs travel more and ref more games than players play each season (some can ref up to 100 games in a season.) i think the time off and hiring more refs is good. i always thought having more of a revolving door of refs is good idea because if they are more likely to be replaced they may ref better (or anxiety would make it so much worse but that depends on the person)
Publicly punishing refs would be horrible How about the NBA just stops making a big deal out of it and players do the same Trying to turn it into a dramatic event keeps the NBA annoying
The sad thing is that it’s trickling down to college, high school, jr high, and youth league. It’s like this on every level of basketball and has been for years. The one traveling that gets me is when they catch it and then hop or take two gather steps after you’ve already gathered the ball.

I have noticed this new UA-cam basketball genre narrative that the 90’s was slow and overhyped which is bs. You weren’t there to watch it. You're right... The NBA is soft! The fact that LeBron is literally the Lance Armstrong of the NBA and the NBA doesn't care because they make money shows it!!!
The NBA is a Traveling, Ball Carry, and the offensive player can take his hand wrapped around the defensive player to score, but yet it's a defensive foul... League!
@@Fane_16 Nah man, because they didnt have to use a water fountain that said "colored" and could attend high school they're entitled. For real though, everyone's a critic and has a problem. Getting? It's been soft ever since The Pistons beat The Lakers in the finals lol The NBA lost alot of money. And that's all they care about. The owners and players are greedy. Players don't play for the fans just themselves. That's why I'm done with pro sports. If its just a business and loyalty respect and the fans dont matter then no reason to watch.
They can start by calling traveling, I mean I watch LeBraun carry the ball end to end only dribbling 2 times. Wilt chamberlain would average 150 points a game in today’s basketball.
If the offensive player initiates contact it's an offensive foul or no call at the discretion of the ref. The only exception to this is if the defender performs a flagrant foul after contact. Else they have free reign once the offensive player initiates the play. That one rule change would completely change the game for the better. They need to enforce traveling, double dribble, and carrying too. It's ridiculous what offensive players are allowed to get away with.
Nobody is stating the obvious. Women officials. There is also the issue of showmanship vs. sportsmanship. It appears showmanship yields better results, and that's sad.
Guys is just getting better and better by year they find ways to abuse the rule to their advantage nothing can do about that even role players can score 30 if they are hot. Just enjoy the game.
Maybe offensively they are getting better but I'm sorry you cannot say that they are getting alot better by exploiting the rules of the game itself. How are you supposed to enjoy the game when the games rules are broken non stop all game? You can stop that, you enforce the rules again simple as that. You call every double dribble, every travel and so on.
@tiktokformenofculture9753 I agree that players are better offensively. But what you can't ignore is the fact that a huge majority of that is due to the huge increase in 3pt shooting, more space on defense, and also as discussed above, the rules being exploited constantly by players. If they called every double dribble and travel and didn't give players points for flopping as well as hand checking and better defense then the scoring would definitely not be as high. I won't argue that players are better offensively but the reason it looks way better is because of those reasons not because of a huge difference in skill.
@tiktokformenofculture9753 The three point shot is great but the mid range game is completely dead. The players chucking up threes all game is not fun to watch or entertaining. I've seen many clips of lebron flopping that are 100% flops but I'm not getting into that and I'm not just referring to lebron I'm referring to all players. And people get fouled for breathing on someone and the reason the free throws are lower is because players are just wide open driving to the basket and just shooting 3s with a hand somewhat in their face. And as far as the kobe thing kobe grew up and played initially in the handchecking Era and was effective before it was eradicated. It just became slightly easier for him after it was taken out and even then the defense was still miles better then today. And you didn't mention the double dribble and traveling either because it's a fact, players exploit this all the time and have no repercussions. And I'm not saying either that Lukas 73 and those players games aren't good all I'm saying is that it's aided by these factors.
@tiktokformenofculture9753 The talent pool is bigger today so every team even The lesser teams have super stars. Joe Johnson, Danny granger, and Jermaine o Neal weren't super stars they were borderline stars that faced injurys. And the thing about lebron is because unlike kobe, lebron has played even further into the softer area where players whine about everything and load management is at its peak. And also because lebron has hopped teams to fit around him to win Championships and kobe never did that. And for the fouls, the fouling has become ridiculous when compared to the 1990s and even early 2000s where players could get away with trash talking and hard fouling people without getting a flagrant foul or a technical. And now because you can't touch someone while driving or taking a shot it increases scoring because people get fouled easily behind the 3 point line too which leads to 3 free throws or potentially 4 point plays. And if you watch the old 1990s you can definitely tell the fouls were called for harder fouls and not just touching someone on the wrist.
That’s why March has become my favorite month for ball. Beyond just getting to see my alma mater play I just prefer the focus on team play, solid defense, and much better tournament structure from the NCAA than the NBA. The energy at games is also just way better than the pro league so this whole idea that only offense sells tickets is a farce.
The nba is bolstering offenses because they feel thats what the people want to see but no they just weakened defenses and is making games a three point contest and low key the removal of hand checking really made defenses weaker
Rodman would be "almost unplayable"? He is the most valuable player of all time. He would be even better today, with managers like Morey that can recognize value. In his era, people didn't understand that 3s, layups, free throws, spacing, gravity, and rebounding have immense value in basketball. They thought SCORING was value (many still do). His defense wasn't even elite, it MIGHT have been above average. His rebounding is so freakishly good that he would be an AMAZING add to the GSW of the recent run. Put him instead of the Zaza or instead of Chris Paul or instead of almost any >5th best player on a recent championship GSW team, and they improve. Massively. That's absolutely disgusting! That's what player value is. Making great(est?) teams even better. I'd rather have someone who creates gravity and can shoot and space plus Rodman on my team than two players who hog lots of possessions and score inefficiently and can't play defense and don't rebound.
Nowadays players are less skilled because they have no handles or defense. Being able to travel, double dribble, and carry the ball does not mean you have good handles.🙄
There’s a part of the modern game that I love. It’s what’s mentioned in Thai video about floor spacing, position-less and switch heavy ball. Tactics are fine. It’s the rules designed to make defending practically impossible that makes the modern game difficult to support at timesz
It's all about scoring if you look at a player now it's a foul 90% of today's NBA players would not make it in the 90's NBA and as a mavs fan I love Luka but understand the problem
Guys, remember the time when Mt. Mutombo was allowed to wag his finger at opponents after blocking their shots? That was fun to watch! Players were allowed to stare people down after dunking on them! It used to be much tougher to score, especially with drives to the basket, because defenders were allowed to hand-check you and bigs were allowed to man the middle! So, we saw some defense! Some resistance! Now the lane opens up like when Moses parted the Red Sea, you can't touch a guy, there's no big manning the middle, and you have shooters all over the place, which is fine, but could you please bring back hand-checking and allow bigs to man the middle? I don't wanna see any more incidents like when Tim Duncan was tossed outta the game just for laughing! Or when Giannis got a technical just for staring someone down after he dunked on him! These things are ridiculous! Plus load management, plus the past few all-star games being a disgrace to the game! Back in the 90s, I remember being impressed when Richard Dumas and Latrell Sprewell averaged 15 points in their rookie seasons! Now, I hear about 50, 60 and 70 points all the time and I wanna throw up, because where's the defense?

Vegas "rules" but even Rome had a "rise and fall" ----my favorite empire.
Editing always on point man💯
The NBA is a joke now. Nobody really cares and their viewership numbers are going to continue to crash. Good riddance
I AIN'T DONE WITH THE 90s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 2000s>
They were good as well@@ImTitan16
Well said.
Thanks@@buddyforbes7157
brunson and hart went on hot ones versus and brunson actually gave a couple good ideas. the first was that apparently refs get punished but we just dont know about it so he wants to make that public the same way the players punishments are. his 2nd idea that i thought was good was giving them more time off because refs travel more and ref more games than players play each season (some can ref up to 100 games in a season.) i think the time off and hiring more refs is good. i always thought having more of a revolving door of refs is good idea because if they are more likely to be replaced they may ref better (or anxiety would make it so much worse but that depends on the person)
The threat of losing your job might make it different for referees. They might think twice about techs.
Publicly punishing refs would be horrible
How about the NBA just stops making a big deal out of it and players do the same
Trying to turn it into a dramatic event keeps the NBA annoying
They prioritize the offense over defense so it’s no wonder the players hardly play defense
and the free throw a player has on games increased 😳
Well comprehensive and a good job. Glad you highlighted the carry and travel as those make me feel sick
We need mid-game deathmatches. Refs are fair game.
The sad thing is that it’s trickling down to college, high school, jr high, and youth league. It’s like this on every level of basketball and has been for years. The one traveling that gets me is when they catch it and then hop or take two gather steps after you’ve already gathered the ball.
"Getting" 😂
What do they mean "getting" the league is already way way too soft🤣
@@ExcaliburSonictheKing Thats what I'm saying 😂 been like thisnfor years now. And Adam Silver is the commissioner of Charmin baby soft tissue paper 👶
@@crosswiz6 Fr, Adam Silver has done nothing but steal money and create a completely terrible product that is causing the NBA to decline. All he cares about is making money off of what he does. He doesn't care about basketball (especially the defensive end), the NBA's success, the fans, or the players who play in his league for him. He is just stealing money from an organization that's declining due to his own terrible work. Overall, he is a terrible commissioner and rule creator.
@@ExcaliburSonictheKing Yup, worst commissioner in all of sports
@@crosswiz6 Facts he needs to be fired and asap
@15:50: ...but it was that era when it was fun to watch NBA games.
Don't wanna go back to the 80 point games but right now every game is a boring three point shooting contest with almost zero defense. Something needs to change.
Start calling the moving screens as fouls for starters and call the gather step traveling as it ALWAYS has been
Most accurate description of 90's and early 00's era ever.
Rodman unplayable?? Feel like he could start for any and all teams playing today.
Agreed, he'd be playable for sure. If I can compare him to a player today, it's probably Vando who starts for the Lakers.
@@hecevans8749I’d personally compare him to Steven Adams. Defence and offensive rebounds through the roof. Rodman is slightly better at both of those things and Adams is a better screen setter and passer.
But they are both defence rebounds first, scoring second. Dive on any loose ball, hustle constantly. I see many parallels.
To the OP: Rodman would definitely start today. This youtuber has some questionable takes at best…
Facts! Because he could easily average 25, maybe even 30 rebounds per game, with all this up and down three-point chuckathon!
Hell nah. He drops 4 points a game with no bag and would probably foul out and get Td up every game.
Today, rodman would be fouled out by halftime in any game.. Officiating is atrocious now
damn the thumbnail is hard
Where did you get the rodman quote "if you can't beat em beat em" from i can't find it
Adam Silver: 💵💵💵💵
We need real defense back
I've seen more travel in a few minutes in this video than I have seen from all travel shows of the world 😂
Great video!
I have noticed this new UA-cam basketball genre narrative that the 90’s was slow and overhyped which is bs. You weren’t there to watch it. So unless you go back and watch entire seasons, going off stats only tell half the truth. Also as a person who had a career as a corporate analyst, I know that you can find anything you want, to suit your narrative in stats if you look hard enough.
Adam Silver trying his best to help LeBum.
Maybe for money💲💵💵💵💸💸💸💱💱💰💰💰😂
I stopped watching NBA over 10 years ago and baseball since the '94 strike. Now just a waste of time.
15:09 "The NBA is in a good place" 😂😂😂 WHAAAAT???
ABSOLUTELY get rid of the 3 second rule
Dont forget, Get a Tech for smiling on bench🤣
Same sh*t happened to football (soccer), rules protecting the offense while fcking up the defense, utter BS.
8:29 Dennis Rodman would get ejected for those hand swings today
10:52 my gf thought I was crazy I just suddenly burst laughing at this clip 🤣🤣
You're right... The NBA is soft! The fact that LeBron is literally the Lance Armstrong of the NBA and the NBA doesn't care because they make money shows it!!!
I loved the way the 04 Pistons played. To each their own.
The LeBron effect! lasting legacy of being SOFT, TRAVELLING AND FLOPPING! it even influence the Refs! 🤣🤣🤣
Same ol same old talk now going 3yrs. 😅😅😅
The NBA is a Traveling, Ball Carry, and the offensive player can take his hand wrapped around the defensive player to score, but yet it's a defensive foul... League!
European players: shows Steve Nash a canadian
Cracked me up
He technically was born in South africa
How’s Draymond playable but not Rodman lol
You missed out on one important factor - the fact that this generation of players grew up entitled, and without a sense of professionalism.
Shocker. An old head preaches about professionalism.
Entitled ?!!!! Bro most of these guys were struggling, homeless or got abandoned by their parents
@@Fane_16 Nah man, because they didnt have to use a water fountain that said "colored" and could attend high school they're entitled.
For real though, everyone's a critic and has a problem. I guess they think people who worked real hard to become one of the very best in the world should never talk about it.
Depending on how technology goes I could imagine some kind of Robot AI as Refs, they would be neutral, have no ego and couldn't be bought.
BRING BACK HAND CHECKING!!!
Adam silver has been such a push over it’s insane. Obviously not all his fault but I’d say more then half is
They can start by calling traveling, I mean I watch LeBraun carry the ball end to end only dribbling 2 times. Wilt chamberlain would average 150 points a game in today’s basketball.
These payers would be average in the 90s. And they would have shorter careers and shorter prime if they would this soft
nah rodman would be fire nowadays
it's the sports betting!!!
Not this a Rebound ahh thumbnail
10:39 david stern just dropped the hardest line known to mankind
This has always happened. The lakers were not going to three peat if not for the officiating.
Only smart comment here
Maybe offensively they are getting better but I'm sorry you cannot say that they are getting alot better by exploiting the rules of the game itself.
The game has went completely boring when they brought in the zone defense. I quit watching.
They don't even play defense.
getting t'd up for hanging on the rim for 1-2 seconds after a dunk is ridiculous
Thumbnail artist is getting paid fat stacks for this one
You can travel and pickup your pivot foot so yea it’s easier to score.
Thumbnail is wack
The nba is bolstering offenses because they feel thats what the people want to see but no they just weakened defenses and is making games a three point contest and low key the removal of hand checking really made defenses weaker
Thanx for covering up what so many people think
People don’t say it but Adam silver is the worse commissioner in league history none of this should’ve would’ve flied if David stern was still here
The NBA is unwatchable now.
Adam Silver needs to be a little Stern
All i thought of when i saw the thumbnail: "LAPD WAS CALLED"
Imagine how many fines and techs Dikembe would get for each finger wag 😂😂😂
Nowadays players are less skilled because they have no handles or defense. Being able to travel, double dribble, and carry the ball does not mean you have good handles.🙄
theres teams playing w 2 bigs nowadays still
Damn that thumbnail is wild, I'm sipping some wine & actually thought lebron got booked for something 😂😂😂
Referees do what their told...but by who?
By the league in their official and unofficial capacity.
Dr J would average over 40 pts a game in this NBA. He would not even need to shoot 3 point shots!
Great vid on the state of the NBA!🎉🎉🎉
Pace doesn't affect offensive rating. Offensive rating is just PP100P.
The league is an entertainment company. But lots of people still bet on it.Less and less watch it.Not on TV anyway.Where does all the money come from?
Now, I hear about 50, 60 and 70 points all the time and I wanna throw up, because where's the defense?
the changing pivot foot on the turn around jumper drives me crazy, you have no chance to defend against that.
warriors took 3pointers to a whole another level not rockets
It’s not just the NBA mates. The authorities soften other sports as well. Why this is happening is beyond me.
Makes betting easier when the variables are controlled.
As a league official and a TikToker, I consider CP3's remarks a crime against humanity
