i spotted one driving around here in Colombia the other day, looks awesome, couldn’t take a picture because i was driving.
You can run accessories off the HV battery in the EV6 by putting it into "Utility" mode. Maybe what they're talking about is having this actually better integrated so that you don't have to go searching for this explicitly any longer, the car just handles long running accessory loads by feeding it from the HV battery.
Yeah that’s what it sounds like
I think the same as you Gman, in the Ioniq5 22 it's the same ( Utility" mode), but needed to be activated by the screen fonction. Personally, I call it camping mode because when I need to sleep in my car, I always use it to keep the car temperature and it's very efficient in energy use in winter 0c and at very hot night 30c it use only like 5% for all night.
Hopefully, the EV3 can be off, as the EV6 in utility mode the screen is always on which is annoying at night time! Also it's much more simple to use V2L than the interior plug, I am not sure where the interior plug in on the EV3 but the Chinese made EV5 has it in the boot which is far more convenient!
They've taken some tips from Tesla. Persistent iPedal in forward and reverse, awesome. The HVAC working in any "key" position is also so much nicer than having to tap the power button multiple times to "power on" the car just so you can get heat or A/C going. Simple quality of life stuff. Wish our EV9 had that.
Nissan Leaf has had that since 2017 forward and reverse and even better no brake needs to be pressed to change from forward to reverse and back to drive, only needs brake for first time engagement.
@@gregb1599 - good point - of the 7 EVs I’ve driven the Leaf has the best one pedal implementation.
My first thought with iPedal for other regen modes is that instead of using the steering wheel paddles to increase deceleration using regen (my current strategy), it will do so automatically when taking foot off accelerator. And I'm here for it! (Especially if the car can remember regen settings! 🤘)
The ipedal tech sounds a lot like in BMWs EVS. Its one pedal + stop sign recognition + keeping a minimum distance from cars in front no matter how hard you press.
Driving range guide is not present in my GT Line top trim ev9. European (German) version. I saw it on your video and on other reviews.
BTW, so far, I hate I-pedal. I love playing with the paddle shifters from 0 to 3 though.
Cheers man! Keep on with the good work.
I think by 3-stage power control they just mean that it will have off / accessory / on states but no longer the "READY" state which corresponds roughly to "engine running" in an ICE car.
Overall these look like some nice improvements, but not enough for me to want to upgrade my 2023 EV6, so that's ideal from my perspective ;) Plus I like the look of the curvy EV6 a lot better than the boxy EV3/EV9... I hope they aren't going that direction with the whole lineup.
Ev4 and Ev5 have different lines. They are more sedan like. There are leaked videos where you can see them.
Or maybe they are deleting accessory mode ? Then the 3 modes would be OFF, ON and READY.
@@Kiwidaedong ev9 has off, accessory and on. Ready mode has disappeared.
Then you will love the design of the upcoming EV4
I don’t know if you have any insider contacts to give you information about the 2025 Ioniq 5, but that’s what I’m mostly interested in.I’ve heard it’s going to be made in Georgia and will come out in the 4th quarter so I’m waiting for more specific dates. In the meantime I’m interested in EVs in general and the EV 3 sounds great but perhaps a little small for my wants. And the EV 9 is too large so I’m sticking with the I5 😊.
The 2025 Ioniq 5 is currently at the top of my dream-list, but this would replace it if it charged faster.
@@joer4367 I’ve test driven a handful of EVs now and the Ioniq 5 remains on top. The EV 5 would probably be perfect for me as it sits higher and that’s the one thing about the I5 that would be a bit of a compromise for me as it doesn’t sit as high as I’d like. I could maybe go for the EV 3 if they had a fully loaded AWD version, but I get the impression that it will be a two wheel drive and targeted at a lower price point. I’d probably already have the I5 if they didn’t come out with so many upgrades to the 2025. There’s a lot of competition for the I5 these days, but I can’t find anything that beats the I5 yet when considering the whole package.
You mentioned 12V issues on the EV9. These seem to have been fixed, pretty much completely. The only remaining 12V issues I read about are cars that have had the 12V die pre-update, so it was left in the single-digit voltage range and damaged. Or cars that have died on the lot from sitting, and jumped, then delivered to the customer with a partial charge before the OTA updates were applied. Once they get a new battery (hopefully under warranty) these cars should be bulletproof like newer builds that didn't run with the original software for very long.
The EV9 OTAs have been very effective at fixing the 12V parasitic drain bugs, and altered the top-up strategy to one that actually works. A lot of us on the forums/reddit have been calling it "fixed."
That’s excellent to hear!
So KIA finally caught up with Bolt EV/EUV 2nd generation in terms of the one pedal driving :))
Scary, ipedal is great for a gradual decrease in speed, but to wait to get to a stop street, that's a bit risky.
I traded my Ioniq 6 for EV9 and love this thing. Just read that OTA updates include the ICCU and other updates so no more dealership visits.
You’re so lucky. I must have gone in for at least 5 software updates over two years
Thanks for the update from Kia.
Any new news on the Hyundai ioniq 2 ??? Will that be a Sedan or a mini SUV?
I love the min/max range thing in my bolt. The bolt also has a bar that shows which one you're trending towards. Does Kia have that as well?
Anyone have any info on when Ioniq 5 will get access to Tesla chargers?
I thought they were going to allow the regenerative settings to work the same but instead of leveling out to 2, 4 and 6 mph for regen 1, 2 and 3 they would all be mapped to 0mph. 🤔 11:08
Could you dig up some information on the upcoming (and very late) v18 navigation/infotainment update? Is there a reason for the delay? That would be a good subject for a video I think.
If the 12v battery dies can you get out of the car inoiq5
I've seen video of a built-in dash cam mode too, which I think is new.
I read somewhere that they are now saying the EV3 won't come to the US until 2026, rather than 2025.
That would really suck
@@heydrewstudio kia says end of this year eu and us is next year. if they manufacture ev3 Mexico monterrey, us divers can get 2026.
And that could be torpedoed by trump becoming president and extending the 100% tariffs onto all Mexico made Evs.
I think Korea since they are a free trade partner might be exempt though?
I'm wondering if hyundai will build their ev3 segment competitor in the new savannah GA metaplant?
With the full tax credit that could be an insanely compelling smaller ev. 😎
Maybe off topic, but have you or anyone else got any info on the Hyundai ev3 segment competitor? I've been hoping for a shrunken down i5 type ev with the hope it'll be built eventually here in the U.S. at the all new savannah GA ev metaplant! 😀
Been told I-pedal is not the best for highway driving where just coasting is more efficient.
@@amigatommy7 it's just what he said in the first half ir the video
I use adaptive cruise control on highways.
@@saifullahakram5972 Yea; especially in stop-go.
Most of this is already in Bolt EUV. I underrated my car 😏
Sounds like good things coming which is encouraging in this current car climate where interest in EV's is slacking off. I have a 2024 Ionic 5 Disney and at 1800 mi the gear box just went out. The part is $5000.00 and not easy to come by but dealer located one. Now waiting on the part and then the repair. They can't tell me much about it other than it's serious so Hyundai has some work to do.
Gearbox? There’s one gear. And I could have sworn from the Munro teardowns that the diff and planetary were integrated into the motor. Has the dealer seen this before or did you get unlucky I wonder?
@@ChuckvdL Never seen before and I think I will try to reach out to Hyundai. This is a special edition car only a thousand were manufactured. I feel like I need further explanation. Do these techs really know what they are doing??
I just hope they'll make it possible to set i-Pedal so that it remains engaged for the next time an owner gets in the car. Other hopes? That they'll program a "dog mode" into the system. That such software improvements will be included in an OTA update retroactively.
They definitely can do it and it seems like vague laws are the only reason they don't do it. My Ioniq 6 remembers Auto Regen which I prefer so there's no reason it can't remember i-peddle. The only concern would be a new driver not knowing how it works which can be solved with a profile or some other system.
Seconded on dog mode. Like, I don't have pets, but I sometimes have stuff in the car that's temperature sensitive and I just want to be able to leave the climate control running while I'm doing errands. It annoys me that there's Utility Mode, but that you can't leave and lock the doors while it's running (yes there are a couple of work arounds, no they don't work for all models).
@@seabreamso the roll down your window, locking it from the outside then rolling up your window don't work for all models? Yeah I agree that it should be more elegant and that we should be able to turn off ulitity mode by pressing it again vs having to hit the start/off button in which we have to hit it again to start the car for the AC or heater.
@@volcalstone That's tricky if you have an Ioniq 6 where the window and lock controls are in between the front seats, not on the doors. While there might be people with long enough arms and enough co-ordination to clear the closing window in time to pull that off, I'm not one of them.
@@seabream the only other way I could think of is to just manual lock your door with the key. I believe the key is separated from the fob on the 6 which isn't the best setup if you ask me.
What is the most efficient mode? I use level 3 generally
Level 3 is good in lots of stop and go, but I’m told at highway speeds L0 and coasting to slow down is best
From what I've seen in various (not scientific) tests, mid level auto mode is the most efficient. But it depends on conditions and driving style.
Coasting > Regen > Friction
I am a bit worried about the HVAC announcement. Maybe i am deaf but i haven't heard anywhere the word heatpump. I hope in their quest to cut cost they haven't cut out the heatpump.
@@MrTree421 According to what I've seen till now, the heat pump will still be in the EV3.
is this not what "auto regen" mode is?
@@LarryHow I had similar thoughts. I always wanted them to make I-pedal sticky the same way auto-regen is sticky. Ditch the ‘max regen’ functionality and make grab&hold on the left lock you into/out-of ipedal, and then they can let you adjust the level the same way you can in auto. The control logic would be symmetrical, it would make more sense to the driver.
just link the profiles to the keyfob!
Wish it charged faster.
Has anyone found the use case for the Auto version of i-pedal (right paddle hold).
Auto isn't i-pedal. It uses your radar to sense a car in front of you and slow you down but not to a complete stop though. You still have to engage the left paddle or your brakes.
It's very useful over longer stretches of local traffic or on backroads where it isn't exactly highway cruising nor is it densely stop and go.
@@volcalstoneyep! Auto isn’t “I-Pedal” - it’s practically the complete opposite!
I drive in Auto basically all the time. It lets the car roll more freely and not try to slam on the brakes when you take your foot off, but it also automatically brakes to match speed when you’re approaching a vehicle.
Yeah.
Soo if the camera stops working....
If any of the safety systems stop functioning they give many warnings
@@TheIoniqGuy let's just say that i am the type of guy that would always like to have the option to brake manually ;)
I'll hold judgement till I experience the system first hand and see how it actually functions
@@TheIoniqGuy well depends who's in control of the systeml..
Thumbs up for coasting efficiency! (Mullosk furiously taking notes)
Incorrect vag already did cruising or coasting instead of aggressive 1 pedal regen with the id.4 and it doesn't help efficiency in real world driving at ALL!
WLTP = 600 km
Just remember that 'coasting' has been illegal for many years in the UK. Is it still illegal? I do not know.
Makes sense. It’s a bad idea to change into the neutral gear while driving. That’s not what the car is doing here (you’re still in Drive).
I'm glad KIA/Hyundai are making reasonable alternatives to Tesla.
When Tesla implodes, their consumers will be stuck.
