You introduced me recently to Parrot OS as my first Linux distro (using virtualisation). Thank you. I'm really enjoying working the terminal and commands.
Oh I'm so watching this when I'm done with what I'm doing. ParrotOS is probably my favorite Linux distribution! I can't wait to see what you have to say about it this time! :)
Parrot lover here! Like a lot of viewers, I literally lol'ed with your "maybe you need to play some chess while pentesting." I'm new in cybersecurity and still in the toddler stage in pentesting. I had a much more experienced colleague recommend Parrot over Kali, so I tried and *loved* it. My main selling point was the the Root Terminal window: I launch it, input my password *one time* and then I can input whatever I want without having to enter sudo over and over and over. In my training so far I haven't found any tools or applications which aren't available or don't work, and I haven't experienced any bugs so far. So I definitely get your point about bloat, but it's not a deal breaker for me. Like you mentioned, it already takes up a lot less resources than Kali, so I don't care. Anyway, love your video, and especially love how you say over and over how this is your personal opinion and people should use whatever works for them. No hate here! :)
@@joseluiscoelho6796 I would've sworn on a stack of Bibles that I checked for this several months ago and couldn't find root terminal on my Kali machine! I just searched now and it popped right up :D. This won't make me go completely back to Kali (I have some other issues with it) but thanks for pointing it out. I stand corrected.
You can also use the `su` command with no arguments to convert your current shell into a root shell. This should work on any distro that has su, which should be most of them.
I agree with EVERYTHING you said here. I use parrot, kali and have a built from scratch distro with the tools i need as my daily driver. I hate this argument and d**k waving contest when it comes to distros. People need to use what works for them and leave other people alone.
I've not used Parrot much but I do like it. I think ultimately its an all round security distro not just focused on pen testing so I do see why the forensics and blue team stuff is in there.
I use Parrot on an 10 year old 17" Dell Laptop besides my MacBook Pro. Can't complain much. I like the distro. Never used Parrot as a pre-built image for a virtual machine. I use it mainly for admin tasks, a bit of blue teaming and a little forensics. So Parrot is fine for me, since I'm not a pentester. I got rid of some of the packages I don't use (or like).
Hey! Parrot fan here. I get what you're saying and I think all distros should be minimal (or as minimal as possible) so users can add their favorite tools. Although, having preinstalled tools is a great way to learn about new software.
And Yes it's better to re distribute not only as branded as security . Also for forensics , reverse engineering and also i guess for blue team and red team would be nice. So they can cut down the bloatware .
I’ve actually switched from Kali to Parrot OS because I couldn’t get my wifi adapter to go into monitor mode in Kali, but with Parrot it worked right out of the box
I strongly agree with you , parrot os is not the same as before , it changed alot. And also i found some of the tools doesn't work properly , and there are many tools that are available only for kali (kali exclusive ) . So its always better to use Kali as suggested by offensive security. I think you cannot consider parrot for daily study and pentest use . Parrot is okay to have as a secondary OS.
offensive security team are the ones who made kali so ofc they will recommand kali duhh xDD don't get me wrong tho i've started alsoo since back Track back in the days and i still like kali nothing wrong with it but also i've been using parrot for some time now am not a professional , but challenges, HTB boxes , THM and CTFs and parrot is doing fine on a VM with 3gb of ram on a very rusty slow and old laptop
The main problem with parrot os is their repo dependencies that is old. Not support for ppa repo. Also not available latest softer updates like:- chromium, firefox, obs-studio ,
Love your content man..jst keep up the good work. I learnt the basics of cybersecurity n pentesting from your videos. Jst wanted to express my gratitude ❤️
You don't want to use "Parrot OS Security Edition" for your daily driver (OS), believe me - there is "Home Edition" for this purpose. The Security Edition is mostly for pent-esters and security researchers, and mostly it used as Virtual Machine Guest OS =)
Loved this distro, unfortunately, I had to go remove it because of amd bug, kept getting errors about video card and stalls randomly. Tried looking for fix but nothing works. Maybe I will install it again when I get a new laptop with nvidia or something.
when it comes down to it, all a good hacker "needs" is a tty connected to the internet and something like busybox. with that, anything can be achieved with some skill. (IMO). Peace.
Having an issue with parrot sec at the moment, trying to learn more about pentesting and was adviced to install Parrot os security But my pentesting app folder is empty except for wireshark that I just installed. is says that there are 600+ tools in parrot sec but mine is empty, any ideas how to solve? This is the second install I have made of parrot sec and neither has the tools. Not installed in virtualbox, installed as primary OS on two different computers.
I think the repo problem was due to parrot's upgrades, if u just switch mirrors it's fine . As of now the whole distro is updated and it's also been flawless and much faster than Kali. I also install to ssd
I am learning cyber security, I'm just a beginner only learning about aws az 900 at the moment. for the future of my course and hopefully a career in ethical hacking would I need linux ? if so what "flavour" of linux would be recommended ?

Parrot vs kali... It's a cold war bro... But kali is the best... It has great history and it's the first hacking OS... And also it developed over many years...
Hard disagree, I may not be experienced enough with these operating systems but parrot is SO much lighter than Kali, ideal for my laptop coughing blood
@@thotarojoestar3045 I agreed... Parrot is lighter than kali... But it has some serious upgrade issues... And also when you downloaded the OVA file of parrot it doesn't support for VMware... You can ask from professional penetration testers what distro they use to do pen-test... And the answer will be kali... I think Parrot OS is so called "bloated" because it's meant to be a daily driver and/or a security researcher's tool.
