"hi, I'm Mike Mangini from the band, Dream Theater, and I've been a Vater Slipknot artist for years."
Can't wait to see Mr. Mangini on tour with DT!!!
Cheers,
Peter Wildoer
This guy is a monster. DT made a great choice getting him.
Tamed monster. Looks like Mangini is steered by jp and jr. Yea he is beast but he would do anything to get this job, so he's taking an easy aproach so he would not getting kicked by the band (as mp would return, he tried previously after dt had gotten a drummer but got rejected anyway)
His facial expressions are hilarious
I personally didn't think u could replace Mike. I wasn't wrong, he's unreplaceable but you have covered him admirably and your new stuff with DT is Freaking unbelievable!! You are fantastic!! I'm now a big fan. Great job!!
I love the way he totally feels the groove, even when he's playing relatively simple stuff. That's how you can tell the difference between an amateur and a professional. Amateurs respect only the flashy stuff, while professionals respect everything.
tl;dr Mike Mangini rox
I love watching Mike play. Not only is he amazing but you can always tell he loves what he does.
What I really like with Mangini is that when he's drumming - he's SO into it! It's exciting watching him play, and he's excited playing as well! I love when musicians really shows joy while they're playing.
I could watch you play all day.
The absolute passion and joy he has for music is so awesome to see. I can't help but smile and feel excited about music when I watch him. :)
Also, watching him work that Hi-Hat with one hand at 5:05 dropped my jaw. WOW!
mike, you know that finally you got what you deserve know in DT...you are the best and all the past few years you had to fight so much....but finally you got what you deserve....not just the best band bla bla... a platform where you can devlope your concepts and finally bring your musical geniousisty to the public you need... you are the MAN...........YEAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He makes the best drummer faces!! Love it!
i dont know why im always always always love watching him drumming. he is a genius.
King of drum Technique, a true master!
beautiful kit! clean and neat
This kit sounds good. Love Mangini's work.
Mike, thank you I like your style lots. You have just become a very big influence for me. I really like how you use the crash as a ride. Thank you, and I will try adding that when I get on my set tonight.
Not too much to say. He's the best. I'm 17, listening to DT since I was 9. Thanks, Dream Theater.
I love the fact that he doesn't only use high end cymbals, lke the K's and the Avedis' lines, but also ZBT's, ZXT's and ZHT's. They all sound great, and very unique in their own way. Plus he makes me appreciate my ZXT's as valuable cymbals!
Awesome Mike! Really enjoyed the 2012 Houston and Austin shows! Amazing addition to Dream Theater!
a great guy and an incredible drummer. psyched for new DT
I love Mike's various "drumming" faces. Brilliant!
Vater makes the best stuff across the board imo.
A true musician and music lover at heart. I originally wanted Thomas Lang or Marco to get the gig only cuz I knew of them. Mike is great for Dream Theater
Mike you are the best! And you also come through as very human and humble in the Auditioning videos with DT, not too common among other "cool super drummers...."
Make sure Dream Theater makes at least one Tour stop in Stockholm!!
it would take me a entire year to tune and place everything just the way I would want it. Annnnnnnnnd I still want your set.
Very interesting Vater Cymbal Slick Nuts. What a cool invention.
The Vater company is always coming out with great products.
Mike your playing is very tasty and your speaking about the Vater Slick Nuts is educational as well. Best of luck with Dream Theater. They are one of my favorite bands.
Don't care for the sticks myself, but i will invest in these. Very practical invention. Thank u Vater!
damn ! Sick drummer on sick band !!! cant wait for your new album guys !!
Killer demo. You're mad Mike!!
I showed up for mangini, but i stayed for the slick nut demo. Gonna get me some hi hat ones now. Great video.
I love Mike's various "drum" faces. Brilliant!
I didn't want this video to end.
a dramatic turn of events will be the most amazing album all time yet
One of the best
What an amazing musician!
These things really are the most helpful and coolest things ever!! I have the same problem he did (meaning as I hit the cymbals, the wingnuts would tighten and loosen, to where it would be dangerous for the cymbal becoming too tight or having them become wayyy too lose and I don't like that)
i love his energy
that guy is awesome. such a good drummer
I'm gonna have to try these as I have my 24" Paiste Rude ride hanging from my drum rack. Thanks for the idea Mike.
You Sir are the man!
i love you Mike mangini
Awesome. Amazing drummer!!
Mike Mangini is very cool. What a tripped-out kit! Sorta reminds me of the Moonie kit from the 70's with the high and mid-toms in front and the floors on both the left and right side. Moon only had one hi-hat, and he didn't play it much.
This was soooo awesome. Very nice demo! :-) Some awesome stuff going on!
That face when he's drumming. . . THAT, my friends, is the face of TRUE fun.
That snare sounds so good !
Love it mike.. :) U are a really good drummer, like Ur Technique.. Its my dream to learn play like that.
Drums are one of the few instruments that conform to the player & the hardware is evolving to allow even more flexibility. Mike's mirrored kit is but one example of personalization.
i'm ready to see a live show!!!!
I like the way he uses all zildijian lines not just the main ones, mikes so cool!
I started playing drums at the same age as him, so I feel very good about the future
That setup looks so damn fun, I just wanna play it for an hour
That rack setup is sick!
@Wildoerfaren you did a great job on auditon too! :) Greets from Poland :)
And the award for the best faces made while playing the drums goes to, Mike Mangini
Awesome person and Drummer!
Drumming is an art... Not supposed to argue about it.
Rocking the ZBTs!
I love mike mangini
with Dream Theater
he is amazing
he is such a great guy
Awesome skills with one hand.
His kit is amazing, not to mention his drumming. New DT song is godly.
Can't wait to see you and DT in action in July! MM rawwwwwwwwkkkkkkkkkkks! \m/
@Wildoerfaren You're a super great drummer too, best of luck
@metaldrummer47 Yes, you would push the button on the back of the skull to bring it back up. Same deal with the regular Black Slick Nut Cymbal Fasteners
Can't wait for the new album. It just may well be the next great shift in DT's sound - the likes of which haven't been witnessed since Jordan arrived,
Great drummer on great band !!!!!!!
I love the Vater Extreme sticks
I remember years ago, Zildjian had a similar budget priced cymbal line called Scimitar. The ZBT's may be just an updated version of these. The ride was fair, crashes useless, but I really liked the Hi Hats. They played and sounded good in a positions, and cut through in the mix. It's all about sound you are wanting. I even used a circular saw blade for a while because it had a great chime sound, lol.
He could play on pie pans and make it sound good.ZBT's are great hi hats for that crunchy rock sound, plus they cut really well through the guitar/bass sound live.I had to play them on a loaner kit at a one-off festival and they were cool!
I love how he has this giant set and still hits only like half of the drums on it.
the faces he makes while drumming are priceless
This drum se is great!!!!
Agreed. They might not be what you would use all around your kit but i use them for trash hats and i have started using them as floating stacks.
Hi this is Mike Mangini from a band Dream Theater and I've been Vater Slipknot artist for years.
Definitely not unnecessary at all. Everything he has is in a perfect spot and that kit blows any kit out of the water =]
@VaterPercussionUSA Thanks dude!!
THANK YOUUUUUU BRO AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!
@oxling1 Yep, 2 22"s as his mains, and remote 18" and 26" for intricate technical parts and more ballad-y stuff respectively.
Look at that epic fingerwork!
Amazing!!
@camelwars95 I saw that too. I have played ZBTs and hated the hi hats most, so I was amazed when I saw them on his kit. They don't sound bad in this video though.
@MuffinSpecial they also sound very crisp in different genres of music, they are extremely versatile and are a very good pair of hats. n00b or Mangini
awsome finger technique!
@MrMarcuuuss I'll be honest with you, I play left hand lead. My Crash/Ride on my left side which sits above my hi hats back aways feels better. My arms fully extended so i can use all my different muscles in better ways. It takes a bit of getting used to but it feels better after a while.
those are the best sounding ZBTs ive ever heard. I call Studio Trickery on that
He loves what he do. hi fits perfectly at dream theater. very gentle person but a monster at a drumkit.
Heck yeah Mike Mangini! Pretty darn cool...
i love his drum face so much :D
I use these as well. They really work well.
I love at 4:50 when Mike said ''Because it helps me to open to close...DURING THE SONG'' It's like ''I can do that... but you don't'' hahaha !!!
He talked about it at a drum clinic I saw him at, and he said it's simply the sound he ways. As you probably know, his whole set is about one; Dark vs. Light cymbals, his toms are set up like tenors, etc. So, the ZBT's were just the right hi hats to contrasts the ones he has on the right of his kit.
with this drum set..he don't have to go to gym..
Richard chad / his kit is set up for when he's 90. He's look'n ahead
dude these facial expressions are rockin my world
@BarrinRayne I used them at my church, after using a set of new beats, the zbt hats are the best for their price, and they have this certain body you cant get with any other cymbal
Best drummer in rock music.
he so fast in one hand as i am with two.. freaking amazing
he is awesome!
Mike, you're a MONSTER
