Growing up an atheist and becoming a Christian that goes back and forth with some doubts hearing that last lyric tears me up. “ heaven knows I’m prone to leave the only god I should’ve loved, yet you are far too beautiful to leave me” wow. All I can do is cry.
"Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love. Here's my heart, oh take and seal it....seal it for your courts above." -one of my favorite songs called Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.
I didn't realize this was a song with a biblical meaning, I'm not really Christian. I see myself in here. My friend left without saying anything, I didn't even know, and just then I realized how much they ment to me. This song makes me cry like every time knowing how hard will it be to see them again. The first line of the song really says more than enough
Well, it's a long way out to reach the sea But I'm sure i'll find you waiting there for me And by the time I blink, I'll see your wild arms swinging Just to meet me in the middle of the road And you'll hold me like you'll never let me go And beside the salty water, I could hold you close But you are far too beautiful to love me But it's a long climb up the dusty mountain To build a turret tall enough to keep you out But when you wage your wars against the one who adores you Then you'll never know the treasure that you're worth But I've never been a wealthy one before I've got holes in my pockets burned by liars' gold And I think I'm far too poor for you to want me It's been a long road, losing all I've owned You don't know what you've got until you're gone It's a nasty habit, spending all you have, but When you're doing all the leaving, then it's never your love lost If you leave before the start, then there was never love at all Heaven knows I'm prone to leave the only God I should have loved Yet you're far too beautiful to leave me
"heaven knows im prone to leave the only God i should have loved" and here i am, coming home. i will always cherish this album for helping me find my way back. the parable of the prodigal son is such a powerful allegory when you were raised in the faith and left it for many years
Dear fellow non-Christians, It’s ok to not believe in the religious parts of these songs! You can still like the music. You shouldn’t feel guilty for enjoying songs, they’ve been put out to a wide audience and you are a member of that wonderful, diverse crowd. Be yourself, believe what you want, and don’t let anyone tear you down!
I agree. If you don't have to be a pagan to enjoy Notos or Eurus, you don't have to be a Christian to enjoy O' Sleeper, Caesar, or this song. Then again, it certainly doesn't hurt.
There are some songs about god that just make your heart swell with the feeling of overwhelming love the father has for you and this is one of them. It's just lovely and the words sqeeze my heart and make me yearn to be closer and thank God for all he is
I think it's played with a capo on second changing the chord shapes to: C, Am, C, Am (enter voice) C, AM, C, Am, C, G, Am, F, Am, F, Am, G, C, Am. This allows you to do the hammer ons on the second (fourth) fret more easily, just hammering on with your middle finger on both the C and Am shapes.
Personally I found it a lot easier to capo 2nd fret and tune my B string up to a C. Then I just drone the G and B string while playing the bassline on the E and A string.
This has the feeling of hopping a train and then lying down near the opening, letting the sunbeans warm you face, while listening to your friends talk about goofy stuff
This is for God but I need witnesses. God I love you and I know you’re real and that you love me. But I’m weak and dumb and I make stupid decisions but I wanna change and get better and closer to where you want me to be but to do so I need your help. So everyday I’ll wake up and look for you and your help. I’ll fill my head, heart and mouth with your words and I know dat the God my parents serve, my siblings, cousins serve WILL become my God too. I love you ❤️
I've been trying to figure out the meaning of the title. I know what it directly translates to and that it's usually in reference to the deceased but I don't know how that fits to this song. I'm in love with this music but I wish I knew the meaning behind the title choice
I've actually never thought about this before, but my take is that it might tie into the references to the parable of the prodigal son that are present in this song as well in a couple others of the album. I just looked the parable up in the Bible and the father says something along the lines of 'my son was dead and came back to life' (can't quote directly because my Bible is not in English). Since this song would be the son coming home (if you look at this meaning because as with all art, there's more than one interpretation) the title would work, in a way. The only way I can describe the way it works is that it's sort of ironic, because the son is no longer 'dead' but the title has that connotation of thinking of the deceased. I can appreciate it a lot more now, so thanks for bringing it up! :) Edited in the name of grammar
@@atruegentlemortal8251 Ah! I knew this song was about the prodigal son but I guess I've always glossed over the fact the father says his son was dead and is now alive and well. (Funny bc this is the story we just talked about in my Bible study.) Thank you!
Technically, it is religious, but at its core, it's just a song about unconditional love. I think that's something we can all appreciate regardless of our background. But yeah, I didn't either. Lol
This sounds like the other persons perspective of Thus To Always Tyrants, this album kind of sounds like the other persons perspective to Dear Wormwood

"You're far too beautiful to love me" ok relatable am I right?
Yeah lol😂. I think it could also be taken as a metaphor for God's love for us.
always
it IS later followed by "you are far to beautiful to leave me," good to know those fictional characters I'm so attracted to will never leave me!
The lesbian theme song

I can imagine the prodigal son singing this while walking towards his father's house
It comes right after Wishing Well on the album too, which is their one about the prodigal son
Heaven knows I'm prone to leave the only God I should have loved,
but you are far too beautiful to leave me.

There was a time in my life when this was me. I'm so moved by these amazing lyrics.
The chords go: D Bm D Bm (enter voice) D Bm D Bm D A Bm G Bm G Bm A D Bm (end verse) D Bm
And the chords are the same each verse
I think it's played with a capo on second changing the chord shapes to: C, Am, C, Am (enter voice) C, AM, C, Am, C, G, Am, F, Am, F, Am, G, C, Am.

The last few lines of this song hit particular hard. I'm not religious so the lyrics take on a completely different meaning for me.
´´I've got holes in my pockets burned by liars' gold``, it's a phrase for who betrayed god for cheap achievments, perfect for me.
You've been playing in my head 💕🎶✌️
This is my love song for Goddddd 😇
Idk why but the vibe of this reminds me of Jed and Octavius from NATM, like, I’m picturing an entire little animatic in my head
