- I recently bought a house in Asheville, and last week, hurricane Helene made landfall, bringing unprecedented devastation to the WNC area. This video is a documentation of my experience as a new home owner living through the storm and dealing with the damage it wrought.
As communities begin the long road to recovery, residents are coming together to rebuild, highlighting their resilience in the face of this natural disaster. Thank you in advance to anyone donating to the fundraiser. 100% of all proceeds are going to disaster relief here in Asheville as the area begins the long process of rebuilding.

The morning after Milton hit Florida we went outside to start cleaning up the massive mess in our yard and was so surprised to find our 15 year old neighbor had already cleaned up most of it. The kindness neighbors have shown us has floored us
That is an awesome young person he/she understands what being a good neighbor is all about & a shout out to mom & dad for raising such a wonderful young person.
As a resident of Lake Lure, thank you so much for bringing a load of supplies to our community!
Your Fire Chief Belongs In Jail! Git 'r Done!
I'm not surprised,I lived in Asheville,I was shocked, how the people were so friendly, drive anywhere, people always waved, invite you to dinner, really the sweetest people in the world, lead with their hearts.😁💚
Glad to help, dude! Chainsaw work is so satisfying! Asheville has got so much work to be done to recover, hopefully we can continue to raise money to help those who need it.
I'm beyond gutted for the people of that area. You are a humble and good person, and I wish y'all the best of luck recovering.
Thank you all for being a beacon of light and showing everyone a fine example of the very best in humanity. it's a spiritual battle of light against darkness and even the light of a matchstick will dispel the darkness. All of you, matchsticks shining together are giving off the light of a beacon. Stay strong and share together, while healing hearts and lives. Much Love to you all.
My wife ran to Asheville from Florida during Irma she said they were the nicest folks she every met. So gracious to even stangers. All the business owners were great too. Something special with that area I hope they come back asap.
One of the reasons I have watched your videos over the years is because of your stoke and your kindness! This video is informative and comes across in the best possible way! Thanks for being the type of person your community needs!
I haven’t cried in 4 days and here I go crying again. 💔. Survivors guilt is normal. It’s ❤ wrenching. You are in Asheville and not Florida because God knew you and your gf are a needed light.
We're glad that no one was injured. Everythings goong to be okay. 🙏
First off, congrats on the new home...that is awesome...and great to see everyone coming together in the video for each other! I'm across the hill in Erwin, TN and we're seeing the same thing on this side. Stay safe and best of luck with the home repairs 🙏
Thanks dude, stay safe out there as well. Gonna be making my way over to Knoxville soon, will be interesting to find that new route over

So glad to hear you are ok. Where have I been? A girlfriend, a new house, a girlfriend.....a new house. You guys take care and take the time you need.
First, I’m glad that you made it through unharmed. Helene was devastating but it’s an encouraging to see people come together and support each other.
You have me crying happy tears for you especially all the wonderful Godly neighbors you have helping one another continue prayers for all 🙏🙏♥️
Thank you for making the video and in good timing. We are in the middle of cleaning up from hurricane Milton in the Tampa Bay Area. The video gave me a sense of things will slowly get back to normal here and gave me a minute to breathe to reset. Thank you.
Thank you so much for helping, sharing the truth and so glad you guys are ok. Sending love, support, care and gratitude. ❤
Been watching since the Key West trip. I feel like I’ve watched you grow up. Proud to see your character.
Glad you and your girlfriend and foster pup are safe. Thanks for helping your community with taking them supplies around to help them! 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️🐶🐶
This warms my heart so much! We're praying hard here on Marylands Eastern Shore for all Harmed by helene ❤🙏
Wow, you did an amazing job putting together a thoughtful informative video about this. Glad you are okay and have such a great Community around you.
I wish you the best of luck, not a great start to your new home but you will come through it im sure. You are very kind & its great everyone pulling together in this awful sad time. ❤
Great job, guys. Every little accomplishment is a huge win!!
Yo so glad you were okay during all this. I live in East TN and we got a little but not like this… our hearts go out to everyone in WNC. Thank you for making this video. More coverage needs to be made so we can get more resources to your neck of the woods🤜🏼🤛🏼
Everything works out in the end and to see you paying it forward is inspiring to say the least. Thank you for sharing your experience with us all and may love and light follow you and all of those effected by this disaster
I’m so happy that you and your family survived relatively unscathed!
It’s so awesome and inspiring to see you be so willing and eager to help everyone around you! Keep up the great work of being an amazing human being! ❤
Great timelapse of the tree removal. Glad you're safe.
Prayers going out to you and all others that suffered damages and loss. You’re a solid dude. Glad everyone is helping each other.
Thanks for sharing. Growing up and still living in an area that is never affected by hurricanes it is really hard to comprehend the scope of damage and the recovery process.
Great to see how neighbors and communities can come together to help each other pull the pieces back together
Absolutely heartbroken for y'all - and all of western NC and surrounding areas. One of my favorite areas, and it's a lot to take in. Please keep your spirits up and let this community know what we can do to help beyond donations. And please update us on what's happening in town and with your house.
Thank you for quality, informative video that is genuine from your heart. Prayers for everyone
Basically camping indoors is so realistically crazy but back to basics is the name of the game!! Love the drone segment too! Kudos to you and your gf/wife ❤
Welcome to Asheville ! Great job they need us right now. Thank you for all you and your girlfriend did for your community!! NC is a great place 🙂
Survivors guilt is very real. I lost nothing but went through the same feelings.
Thanks for giving us a view into what's happening. It is good to see so many people coming together to help each other.
Amazing to see just how many people are relatively helpless in this situation.
Appreciate seeing the donations are finding their way to people there, also really appreciate you for playing your part, 💖 from Illinios.
Not to worry, you are doing great as a new home own, and wonderful neighbor.❤🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏
Wow.
I'd seen other tubers videos from those in your kind of area. Seth, bikes and beards etc but your video really showed how bad it is over there. Crazy.
Alexander- first, congrats on settling down, for now. Haha! I met you in Moab when the Spot you were riding exploded.. I was one of the medics that was in your video..
you’re a genuine dude, always come across so humble.. I think your documentation was great and don’t see how it could be misconstrued by anyone. I’m sorry you had to disclaimer it at the end. Between the human spirit and the way we band together in times likes these will in time leave the greater NC area stronger in spite of the deviation and loss..
Thank you for sharing this update. You're an awesome neighbor and human. ❤ It gives ME hope in humanity to see men, real men, work together, to accomplish a common mission. It is just beautiful to observe how you guys work together. And how everyone is living The Golden Rule. ❤
I’m happy you’re ok buddy. I’m in Augusta Ga, we also got hit really hard. I’ve seen things the past 2 weeks that I never thought I’d see…Hurricanes NEVER make it this far inland. Destruction everywhere you look…houses destroyed, people killed, cars smashed, the list goes on. We’ll all get through it, going to be tough. Good luck with everything.
Cute dog Kaya, hope she finds a permanent home
THAT is the BEST coverage of this that I've seen! GR8 work!
Always love to see you making the best out a bad situation, was sad to hear you didn't get to reveal the house the way you wanted but life happens sometimes and its awesome when you share these things
I was in Asheville, NC yesterday to help and assist the affected communities through churches. It is complete devastation in many small pockets of community where in some of the affected areas the government has not even reached out yet. You are not seeing a lot of this in the news. Keep praying people and also help anyway you can, tell your friends, neighborhood... Together we can achieve anything
In my opinion, last year a man who just mentioned to a bunch of us , the citizens in a situation, don't depend on the
government, because everyone has to fend for themselves. I'll be darn , that man was right , in what he said about
the government . I feel this man from last year was warning us , not that he knew anything the hurricanes or anything
like that . Kinda like a wake up call for everyone . My heart goes out for everyone in North Carolina, Tennessee,
Georgia and Florida . I live over 1,000 miles from Florida and when Helene came through our town , it rain a lot ,
and we had 75 mph winds , I was worried about our tree in front of the home , because it's a huge tree .
Please take care and stay safe .
Alex I'm glad you were able to get after the mold. As someone who has suffered from long term mold illness I urge extrem caution.
Damn dude, it's been so long since i've seen a video of yours, have been a follower since you and seth went on that roadtrip with your road bikes. Good to know you and the rest are ok and glad to see your videos with the whole gang.
after watching complete devastation for days it filled me with a sense of dread and seeing your video where i can that there is life and normalcy it gave me a sense of relief...for those that went through trauma seeing normalcy and having people on hand to help them is critical for their survival...God spared you because he has a bigger purpose for you...Having gone through a traumatic event just sitting next to people going about their day was theraputic...God needs you to bring people back from trauma
Not the ideal start to homeownership but you handled it like a champ. Thank you for being so selfless through it and helping those in need.
This is so sad... Mr. Sampler i've looked up to you since I was in highschool and knowing you've gotten a house and gone so far is awesome to see. Looks like a great neighborhood with great vibes before the disaster. Houses can be fixed, I wish you the best. My house once flooded during a tornado and we had to shop vac water out all night long.
🙏 nuestras oraciones por su pronta recuperación!
You absolutely deserve the Nobel Peace Prize for producing an outstanding video when your whole world was literately coming down around you. If there is one thing we all desperately need right now is faith in humanity. You delivered it in spades. I shared this and encourage all of you to make this video go viral. (standing ovation in my living room)
Wow, thank you so much!! Itt felt strange to be documenting but based on the feedback I'm happy that I did. 🫶🏻
Good to see you stayed safe, was wondering about you being up there. Hopefully your new digs get fixed up soon.
So touching, the human element of it all.
I appreciate the inside look to whats going on. Information doesn't flow like it should
I appreciate your story
Keep on being you. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy the ride
You have a beautiful home , speedy recovery ❤️🩹 never been to Asheville always heard it was a very special place , thanks for sharing the struggle 🙏 prayers
Live on the south fork of the “ New Look Ri ver” outside Boone . We’re with you bud . Gotta restore this Heaven on Earth area . Hang tough , and get a ride in before you expect !
Kudos to you Alex. Way to share what you had with others.
Congrats on your new home! The damage doesn't seem so bad. I've seen worse happen right after a new home purchase. Hang in there, brother! Everything's gonna turn out OK! 👍
So sorry about your house but I’m glad you’re all ok and alive. I hope your house gets repaired soon
I am so happy that God sent you Angels to get you started on getting your house safe and I am also so happy to see that you are paying it forward, God will continue to help you. Please be safe and careful. I will continue to pray for your new house journey and safety. I also will continue to follow your UA-cam journey. Lots of love. God Bless Love’s 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
This was a very good video of one person’s story of the Helene Hurricane and the response in Western North Carolina. I live north of Charlotte and my son’s family is up in Boone. My son says they are all ok and trying to help others too.
Get some blue tarps to cover the hole in the roof for now. Tie the tarp down to the ground so, get long ropes. The downed power lines sounds scary.
I’m sorry for all the demise, after those two hurricanes. Very sad.
How many wildlife were killed or injured?
Thank you to the military for helping people obtain/giving out much needed supplies. Thank you to your neighbor for helping you tarp the roof. Bleach, bleach, bleach is your friend! Mop with bleach water, clean bathroom and kitchen especially kitchen sink with bleach water.
Lots of work to do!
Just glad you both are ok.
I'm glad you made the video and it fully came across as honest and authentic. That's the thing, everyone does what they can to help with the skills they have. If it's bringing over a chainsaw, bringing water, patching a roof, driving a trailer, using their UA-cam platform to communicate the challenges...that's what matters. Good luck!
Thank you man, that means a lot to hear and I agree, in the end we're all out here doing our best!
Aw man, that sucks really bad. So sorry 😢.
Good job on getting that roof opened and dry it out. If you can in the future, try to keep trees away from foundation or trim them off house. I know you realize that but it will help for future storms.
Blessings! Glad you’re ok!
you are doing a great job
What fabulous cooperation!
I don't live in the US and it only just clicked that hurricane Milton was unrelated to this and you're in completely different states. God bless all those affected across the country
Thanks for sharing!👍🏽
Damn man. Hope you recover!
Brand new home owner, doing phenomenal mate!!!
Glad to see you are ok and were able to come together with your neighbors to make a difference and help others. Always wonderful to see how we can come together in an emergency and make a difference.
My grandfather lives not far from Ashville in SC and while he got away without any damage it was still a mess. My twin brother went to help him and they said the biggest issue at first was as you said living in a bubble. He didn't know what was going on around him until he either went and saw for himself or talked to people that had. It made such a difference that my grandfather who is 82, has decided to sell and move into town where it is easier.
I was shopping for land on I40 AND BETWEEN LAKE LURE AND ASHVILLE. GOD PROTECTED ME! BEEN LOOKING FOR A YEAR!
We are coastal NC. Hurricanes come almost every season…some just a small storm, some large and vicious. We keep tarps on standby for occasions such as this.
Wonderful sharing of your experience ❤ from your ❤️
You & your girlfriend are as a shining 🌟 stars 🌟
.. being helped ❤
.. HELPING ❤
if it's not covered ( roof ) the insurance companies might not pay to have replaced.
A lot of changes are taking place, throughout the USA. *Remember MOLD grows very fast and worsen the situation* .
Get rid of the insultation and air it out , and then check the wood around it , and then replace the insulation and drywall the ceiling.
And if you need to have someone aka Roofer to check the ceiling , then it would be best to do it .
Amazing. Humans coming together during the worst division in history. It touches my heart to see all the people come together to help. GOD is alive and well in our hearts. Wish you the best my friend.
Hang in there. I've been through this, except in my case the tree took off the entire corner of the house, cleaving it almost to the ground. This is the whole reason for insurance, they'll come out and rebuild it and it'll be like it never happened.
One strong suggestion : when the tree people come out, it's worth it to have them look at, and take out, anything else that looks suspect.
Neighbors helping neighbors is core essential humanism at work. :-)
Although it's really hard to see positives in a situation like this, as a new homeowner, you will come out of this with a much better understanding of how all the systems and structure of your house work together, which will be a huge boon in the future.
Also : one can never underestimate how useful a vehicle with a trailer hitch, and battery powered tools can be
My thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone effected by this devastation. Also if you cant find actual cat and dog food. Cans of tuna and other canned meat will hold them over. I truly believe humanity pulls together in these times. Take care from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 🙏🏼💞🌎
Yeah. Debby came through, tons of rain, couple days later the rivers flooded, got a foot of water in my house for about 5 days. Lived in SE Ga my entire life, never had something like this happen, never seen it happen. Just when I branched out and got a place in another state so I could bike more, I get yanked back to take care of that disaster. If you are feeling like a dope, don't, you and I are far from the only people who got blindsided by the storms this year. I'm thankful it wasn't worse, I have nothing but sympathy for those who got caught up in all of this. If I were you I would have thought a house out by Asheville would have been a good idea too. Edit: By the way, if you need to get on a steep roof, just pull the foam out a couch cushion or something, watch a video of how roofers use it, just scootch around, has virtually unlimited grip.
Moved here from Florida too, 28 years there through many stronger hurricanes but never saw damage anywhere near the level here. Got to know the neighbors really well and planning on keeping some community dinners going periodically even as things get back to normal so that’s been the silver lining. Hope you can get everything fixed up soon!
I looked up roof Maxx without even getting to the end, but they only work with asphalt it seems, ours is metal. hugs from fairview
And then Hurricane Milton came along a week later…2 hurricanes in two weeks, so sad.
Congrats and good luck.
Shit man sorry to see that, I also live in WNC and we had 4 trees fall on our house . It is so demoralizing to have this happen, when it happen to my house I was in such a bad place in my mind, but our community came together and help us out with getting the trees off the house and cleaned up. Hope your community/neighbors are coming together to help you out. One thing I have learned and truly love about this area people are so giving of their time and possessions to help their fellow neighbor and community.
dont have survivors guilt, your video helps us know what's happening thank you.
Don't think about it too hard you cant control the weather or the situation you are in, but you can and looks like you have been helping make other peoples live a little better and thats all you can do. Much love, its awesome to see people looking out for each other!
Nice Community dude. You found home. Get’r fixed.
I just found your channel. So sorry you’re community is going through this.
Im SOO SORRY to hear of your damage to your new home. Oh...BTW...I HATE TREES...in my yard.
ah that sucks! buying a house, then having it destroyed, my parents house was like this too, was 4 years old, and then a lightning hit it, the house is still there of course but a lot was destroyed. all the electrics where shot, the main beam of the roof caught fire, but thankfully not quickly enough, so it could be saved.
Good Firewood for winter
Went through similar in flood 2021 germany. Lost everything and three friends but my health and job. I still consider myself lucky and fortunate compared to others that took a huge hit to their body. Which makes grieving about what happened a very wired mixture of emotions. All I can say is that I appreciate every day despite being technically homeless and am very grateful for so many friends and family members that gave me a place to stay and did pry deeper to give emotions the very room they need to dissipate.
