Alot of that traffic on the highways was due to having scenarios where the on ramp would directly conflict with the live lanes. Just like real life cars need room to merge.
Another tip also I found in my game play last night that One Shop can also attract a lot of traffic too as I found out a convenient store selling food was attracting a lot of traffic creating a big traffic jam as I noticed that is where they were all going too which definitely surprised me. So I built a large Parking lot around that area and they all decided to park there and then walked to the shop from that parking lot. So the moral of the story is to take note of why there is a build up of traffic in the area and to check where the people are going. In this particular case they were just going to this food store, must of been good food there. As it was the only food store among other stores in that area.
You increase lanes so much, pointlessly often. It's usually not congested because there is not capacity on the roads, but because the crossing or intersection that is the issue. Then you don't just fix the intersection, but add even more lanes, often when there already are a whole lot of them. So now you have insanely massive amounts of lanes, that are not just not congested, but are essentially empty.
I really liked many of your upgrades and traffic fixes on this episode. I was hoping to see you implement a local/express solution on the major highway connecting west Bixton and Downtown, and Quincy Harbor. Through traffic would connect the harbor to downtown and the west edge of the map, while local traffic serviced west Bixton and Bedford. Nonetheless, your upgrades were simple: it didn’t require major infrastructure overhauling as my suggestion would require, and everything seem to work so far! Great episode.
I have an north American solution why dont you add another highway along the coast entering into quincy harbor and in a very north American style destroy couple of homes on the way, i think that would definitely solve the problem ;)
There aren't many intersecations for this waterfront artillery road. What is the differences between a highway and 6 or 7 lane artillery? Do you just want to make it cool with bridge and ramps? Most so called highways are only using simple diamond intersecation and have speed limit of 55.
I'd agree. Apart from turning lanes, more lanes are kinda stupid. That's why I love how biffa often does it. He makes new connections and handles things differently than most ppl
My thing is you’re using 2 lane roads as major arterial roads remember the basics main thoroughfares use larger roads to handle larger volumes of traffic. In the real would at least in America the smaller roads aren’t main thoroughfares for the most part. Since you started this city I kept thinking to myself he’s gonna have terrible traffic problems in the future. And sure enough here we are.
One point of contact. It will do it every time. I try and have the highway connect to at least 2 arterials at each exit (generally above and below) and have each major area have more than one exit serving it. This will allow you to basically split the flow over more area without just adding lanes. All my highways are still just 2 lanes each way, with added lanes only at service/system interchanges and the flow is still good at most times. Your map gets narrow in that one area so that makes it hard spread the flow out. Very nice city!
My city has 400k population now and traffic is gone!? I notice everyone walks miles to and from work. So i now have all these empty roads and my city feels dead. I want more traffic! It makes the game challenging and fun
You have not understood the problems about traffic jams! I can help you explain how it works and resolve the problems of effective maintenance if you want
It's looking like the city needs a main transportation hub for train metro and bus with sub hubs around the city. Plus after economy 2.0 update look into how your cargo is moving around.
I suggest getting the traffic mod which allows you to change the lane direction manually. & the traffic light mod will allow you to change the traffic light.
I ain’t gone hold you… that highway is way overbuilt. Rather than creating 8 lanes highways, how about making more options through the city and highway for sims to take to get where they need to go. That neighborhood in Bedford does not need that many lanes. 🤦🏾♂️
Stagered merges like at 32:50 work in cities skylines 1 and irl quite well, i use them in my cities. It seens they dont work in cities skylines 2 😢 probs a yield/giveway sign....
@@88balloonsonthewall70 Even in the US there are states where there are a lot of roundabouts, but science shows that it works really well so... why not everywhere?
I am a third of the way through and I am yelling at my screen. You updated all the highway segments EXCEPT the problem. If you did nothing else, but increased the stretch between your exit and your merge it would have been done. Hoping you realized that by end.
Guys are cars in your game also bouncing, dancing mainly during sunrise or sunset ? Second thing is, that traffic in my city is caused by Taxis coming from outside... really strange
I think, after watching you bulldozer some things here and the and trying to build areas with no space near the heat of the city.... I think you should do what Boston did. LAND RECLAMATION. It's realistic, and I think it's needed for Bixton. I think you should think about that mulligan.
there is a lane management tool to edit intersections' turning lanes. it is literally called "traffic" so please use it or imma get a stroke with those intersections
its likely that they'll add almost all the features that are only available through mods at the console release as its only PC right now they can download mods console players cant
People need to stop taking those goofy UA-cam videos that seriously yes if your in one of the biggest cities on earth in the most car centric country on earth adding another lane isn’t going to work, but in any mid sized city with slow to no growth it definitely helps, especially tourists areas for example that will always use the roads to get in
Your design is nice, bordering beautiful, but when it comes to lane math, you suck asphalt. Two lanes plus two lanes into a three lane? Two lane exit ramps?
Cities Skylines 2 is not a functional finished game, you literally can not play it properly without mods. Just use them until the game gets overhauled in a year or so.
22:20 “Daddy why are we flying?” “Oh son, this happens all the time! A giant god with a mouse makes our lives a living hell! It’s all normal.

Yep, and now he has insanely wide roads that effectively empty; not just not congested - empty. Fixing the intersection was all that was necessary.
bixton has turned into a smaller version of NYC

Great video man! I'm stoked to pick up Skylines 2 again after the update is out!

Love the videos, keep up the good work!
16:23 you've got a ton of people walking on the train tracks, wonder what that's about
Adding more lanes does not solve traffic it is called induce demand.
adding lanes can and do solve traffic problems
@@user-wq9mw2xz3j In certain situations it can, but its not the best or most efficient way to solve traffic.
Adding lanes does help such as dedicated turning lanes
doesnt apply in this game tho bc of the ai being so iffy 😆
I'd agree. Apart from turning lanes, more lanes are kinda stupid. That's why I love how biffa often does it. He makes new connections and handles things differently than most ppl
Maybe you could add a train station to Bedford to make people a bit less car dependent
Yeah it would also help reduce the number of transfers between bus terminals
just 1 more lane bro
Just one more track bro

Да, очень мало возможностей съехать с шоссе. Весь траффик собирается в одном месте. Город разрезан шоссе на слабо связанные части.
"A very North American Solution" *proceeds to put roundabout*
‘Today we’re going to be fixing traffic’ with more lanes..😬😬
Your trains are despawning
This video is how not to slove traffic problems
Hey goofball it’s a game people don’t use the road more because of more lanes like in real life
17:17 you need another way in and out. Or at least out of your industry area. It’s creating a bottleneck

That AI thumbnail is fire Tim!
Bixton location is beautiful i know its not real but it makes me wanna move there

LAND RECLAMATION.

I keep thinking of a bus and truck only lanes, possibly underground?
If the devs learned anything from cs1 the traffic manager mod was necessary to put in cs2.

Can you do a full day cycle please turning on the daynightb cycle in brixton playthrough thnx.
this illustrates how American road designers act by often adding 1 more lane
Although it is usually more than one. Sadly it doesn't properly emulate, at least not immediately, induced demand.
Can you put a save game of bixton on paradox mods
Traffic is awful because of the slow motion simulation game
why did you uninstall move it??
3:50 thats not very north american
Wild
Ill buy you coffe if you shared your game save :)
You city problem is that you have only one highway going north to south
Interstate? I think there is another one on the other side of auburn
I have a bigger city with only one highway acting as a bypass away from the city, the traffic is fine
I mean a highway on the other side of the lake
if the entire city can only use one road to get to an emergency shelter I think that might be a problem
