These replies are delusional. I'm going to upload a city with perfect transportation, private and public, yet the main highways are always jammed up after running for several in-game years due to the vehicle AI eventually all wanting to go in the same lane, for absolutely no reason(as far as traffic flow is concerned). The only way to fix it is with traffic manager and micromanaging the lanes so they can't switch lanes in the completely random locations. It is some horrific bug that occurs when there is enough traffic and the sim runs long enough.
@@HarryBalzak It's probably because the calculation doesn't care about congestion. If it was calculated based off of time estimation rather than distance, it would improve greatly. But I'm pretty sure that the game performance would take a hit, and it'd be difficult and slightly annoying to do.

It's a little bit of a shame that the lane behavior didn't get "fixed" in all that time. There is some bias to vanilla traffic to not use lanes if they never have to switch. Like I had a big one-way 6 (or is it 8?) lane block with lanes going "into the block" every so often. They only ever used the inner most lane (because they want to turn left at some point) but then I just put a tiny bit (the smallest distance it let me) 4-lane highway at the beginning of this thing and suddenly they use all lanes. Incredibly frustrating in vanilla which I'm playing rn for achievements.
If you do use the Traffic Manager mod, there is another mod that still allows you to get the acheivements (you may know this). Allows you to work around the loopy traffic but still get them achievements :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines I actually didn't know this and I'm now inclined to use it but it's a little bit of a cheat don't you think (for achievements) :D It's hard enough to control myself to not use "pimped" assets already.

It was interesting in Sim City 4 long time ago, why not put it here? Also myth "everything can be solved with a roundabout" is ... a myth. It doesn´t work irl, won´t work here for you lot. If anyone be inspired with real-life hacks and designes, there would be a massive improvement of traffic performance
@@siriusczech Except roundabouts massively reduce traffic and it is only the exceptional ignorance and arrogance of Americans that prevent them from accepting it.
@@arandombard1197 Roundabouts has many positives and I don´t know about US approach to them, so won´t argue. But the main problem of roundabout is it´s capacity and the way it is implemented in the game (we are under gameplay video, don´t forget) is way too "miraculous" as a solution. In many cases they would make situation in presented cities WORSE, while ingame they makes it better. Don´t know why
Apparently in Mumbai when cows decide to lie down in the middle of the road, junction etc. You are just expected to wait it out. So I'm not sure what the solution to that would be. Maybe tricky flyovers etc.
My solution: 1. The farm junctions all need to stay away from main road, it create unnecessary heavy truck junctions. 2. Seperate the road of downtown and those farms, such as direct-downtown elevate road, consider the wealth and density, it is valuable to do so. The remain ground road can exclusive for the farms. X. I see a lot of city builders love roundabout so much which I don't understand why. 3. Just unify all those roundabouts.
@@FullOilBarrel A lot of people think that they also look nicer. It CAN work in C:S, but you have to plan your main roads around using them from the start, otherwise it's a pain in the ass to change it all later, due to the problems we saw in this particular video. Personally, I don't like using them for that reason, and force myself to try and utilize road hierarchy and right-hand turns when I can. T-Intersections also provide better traffic flow than a X-Intersection, as you only have one turn-off instead of two.
Though it is impressive to go from 3% to 61%, i find the fact that the rush hour traffic only drops by 5% even more impressive. I can see that i need to use more paths in my cities.
One of my favorite things in this game is placing down pedestrian paths and bridges/tunnels and seeing lots of cims use them. :D Like public transport it makes such a huge difference in traffic (I wish my real-life country's government would realize as much lol)

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR ONE OF THESE, seriously I've never been more motivated to make a disaster traffic nightmare just to see your wizardry at full scale. It looks like someone beat me to it, haha. Seriously though it would be kinda cool to see a city (even purpose built) with all the traffic DON'TS to both serve as a tutorial for new folks but to also show solutions to the corners people unwittingly back themselves into. Picked up so many tricks and tips spread over so many of your videos, makes me want to watch A 1 stop shop of like the 20-25 DON'TS and how to fix em. I really like seeing the solutions you come up with that you gotta apply to cities built. For some reason it sticks better than vids that just slap together an oops and fix it demonstration. Anyway, love the vids, love even more you help so many people in the process of entertaining us all. The sheer effort and dedication people obviously poured into their cities that you help clean up is maybe the core thing that makes your videos so addictive (and I can't be the only one who notices when you just sigh under your breath trying your hardest not to beat people up for mistakes you see over and over since you realize that they often don't know they are making them/they are just doing everything to fix it on their own...as a guy who Sherpas lots of folks through difficult content in multi player puzzle/shooter/rpg games I know exactly the feeling when you gotta teach the same thing over and over to new folks but gotta remind yourself they just don't know 'the way').
I think you did quite a good job! There are a few thing I would have done different. Yoiu could make the streets connected to the main road in the farm area one way instead of deleting them. Also I think there needs to be another way to cross over the highway, that would also take some pressure of the main street. :)
I don't want to see my city fixed, I want to fix cities. That seems more fun than the actual game. Thought though: when cleaning up city traffic, contrast road upkeep costs before and after.
I agree, my only issue is that I'm not that familiar with all of the popular mods people use, so if I download a city I'm not quite sure how that would work since I mostly play vanilla. Would Cities automatically install the mods it needs for that city? I guess there is only one way for me to know
Wow, you are doing a great job there. I always try to completely eliminate private vehicles by having a lot of public transport and using those neat Old Town districts, so my traffic flow is usually >90%, but your solutions for a not-so-eco-friendly city are very interesting. Might try that out (although I'll probably end up with my old ways again... hehe). Car-free towns just do run very smoothly and create so much less noise pollution, solving two problems at once.
Bypass/ slip lanes work so well for me generally. I was practically yelling that when I saw the double roundabouts. A lot of. Trucks just want to go straight. Make one ways on and off the highway for industrial traffic by the cargo thing and industry areas.
Or what ive been doing, make dedicated roads only for trucks and emergency services, i use industry roads and ban other vehicles, run them around cities with small roads for them to enter off of, minimizes trucks jamming traffic and lets them get around faster
2 rules will get you a working city: 1. Options. Make sure you don't funnel everyone through one road. 2. Priority roads. Make sure you provide a net of fast, big roads through the whole city, so people don't get stuck as soon as they leave the highway. If you won't youse the improved AI of TM:PE you'll probably use highways for that, since the sims are terrible at utilizing lanes with the standard AI.
Honestly I love your solution to fixing the traffic. Keep up the great videos :) Only suggestion if you want to call it that is personally I like to put a sort of express path from industrial areas to harbors. Usually underground if its a significant distance away since they view it as an optimal path and keep trucks off the streets over all.
I've found that having sections, like housing and industry sections, with one way streets going through it focus the traffic in a more manageable way. Also, having Highway to a sub-highway to main streets also helps divide traffic in manageable ways These also make it more desirable to walk or use mass transit as driving makes you go a longer way to get out of sections
I like the traffic mod you are using to control traffic flow, the lanes they use and to make them give way. Although to be more realistic the mod needs an extra button called "including SUV's and Merc drivers!" Love the vid's, keep em coming.
I would've left roads connected, but made it so you couldn't turn across traffic. I would've also added more highway connections and more highway crossings, even to where I shorten existing connections.
theres something oddly satisfying about watching all these city fixes. haha my brother showed me some like a month ago and ive lost count of how many hours of these ive seen now
The game is cities skylines and it's fun to play I swear and frustrating if ur Garbage trucks stopped working and the city for polluted because of the trash that haven't got collected And everyone got sick lol
I would place a tollbooth just after the highway junction (the one fastest in to the city with low cost. People that don’t want to pay will drive around an those that have to go fast will pay
I recently purchase Cities Skylines, and absolutely love it! Then I ran across your channel!!! Not only are you VERY entertaining, but I've learned a lot from your videos. Thank You!!
12:34 - 14:15 didn't help at all. those cars that were "moving again" were being forced to go straight (by the TM:PE lines that were just drawn), when they really wanted to exit into the city. cars already had the far left lane to use to get through. people need to stop building such dense cities. make citizens drive further. it helps.
at first i actually submitted it to sam bur but he didn't want to do it, missed a big opportunity seeing that this is the most watched video of biffa :)
lol no, i was working on the city since 2017, playing very infrequently tho. Rush hour was not as penalizing as the Real Time mod. So, when I updated to Real Time, everything went south. Also, I always disable vehicle despawning, which is enabled by default.
@@nathanstarseeker2009 it's not about the cpu - simulated people are limited to 65.000 to limit cpu overload (but you can manually change this); the despawning is because it can get to a point with bad design where the vanilla AI is not able to move even an inch. When cars despawn, at least the rest can continue. The mod disables normal despawning but enables despaning for confused vehicles (calculation errors)
You should use the Transport Manager Mode more, if you already have it. E.g. In the farm area...the little roads south to the big road...make them only turn right onto the big road and don't allow left turns. The big road can only turn right into the little road. This removes the intersection and they can turn around in the roundabout if they need to go left into the town. You could also improve lane management in the roundabout.
Watching "Past Biffa" is sometimes very aggravating. With experience, he's learned things that he passes on in his videos. Watching stuff from before learning, like turning off junction restrictions at roundabouts and not using dedicated turn lanes on the main road, I'm like, "C'mon, Biffa, don't do that!". It's amusing.
Biffa, use shift+click on a road giving way, it set give way to the main road, just keep in mind if there is a roundabout at the end it changes the node connecting to the main road aswel.
A strategy I don't think I've seen you use in any of your videos so far is using the heavy traffic ban to stop trucks from taking shortcuts on roads that can't handle the traffic. Spotted at least one spot you could have employed it here. Anyway, idk why but I enjoy watching these! Cheers.
I tried the Realtime mod a while back and it was completely broken. Maybe I'll give it another try as it's one of the mods I've always wanted (or wanted to make) for realism but not when the dev(s) ignore several people reporting the same bug and condescendingly referring them to the FAQ without reading anyone's replies trying to explain that the FAQ does NOT address the problem..... Anyway, the real underlying problem with this city is that there are 43,000 people crammed into way too small an area. Also, WAY too much high density for such a small town. I am impressed you were able to fix it with out addressing those concerns. Like real life, cities in this game like to sprawl, and you need to plan well ahead before placing any high density zones.
1 thing I do which helps even more with roundabouts is lane management. I watch a lot of your videos and the amount of videos that I see with roundabouts only having the outside lane being used is enormous.
Biffa: Would you have done anything differently? Me: First, build frontage roads for the farm roads to eliminate the junctions. Second, upgrade the main road through the Old Farms to a four lane freeway (two each direction). Third, eliminate the two roundabouts at the freeway / main road junction there and provide ramps for cars and trucks turning left off the freeway. Fourth, provide alternate access to the farms and small suburb to and from and across the now two freeways. Fifth, build a metro!!!
Real time mod also gives you peak power and water consumption at realistic times of day like evening and morning. Solar power production dips at night too. It's tough to deal with haha. Morning and evening traffic sucks then it gets all better at night.
well I bet you have never been in a 5km ONE LANE traffic jam when 2 other lanes are completely free and the few people on the free lanes occasionally trying to merge into the blocked one :D makes me hope for a city skylines 2 with better vanilla traffic
@@brohvakiindova4452 that can happen IRL in the States where there is construction that chokes the road to one lane. People waiting in line actually get *_FURIOUS_* when others use the free lanes properly and merge at the lane closure.

No, China main highway will never be only two lane, they have eight lanes at least unless in rural area

*Goal:* Fixing Manila and Mumbai's Traffic.
*Difficulty:* Impossible
*Scenario Influences:* Counter Flow Tendencies, Massive Congestion on Rush Hours
Sadly , not just during rush hour
Fix Edsa of manila it's bad during going home
Apparently in Mumbai when cows decide to lie down in the middle of the road, junction etc. You are just expected to wait it out. So I'm not sure what the solution to that would be. Maybe tricky flyovers etc.
I live in Manila and traffic is so bad I don't even want to go out of the house
You havent seen kharachi
My solution:
3. Just unify all those roundabouts.
chongjunxiang3002 roundabouts are good in real life, not in c:s. To add insult to injury they take an enourmous amount of space
The T-Intersection thing is something I picked up in Simcity 2013, and it carries over rather well.
roundabouts are amazing in every aspect
Man, seeing the traffic clear up is really therapeutic.
No cars? No traffic
No work? No money
Hotel? Trivago
11:36 man i would kill for a bike path that well planned out in my actual city i live in!!
Single figures to 60%
Some damn fine work there!
Thanks! It was tough lol :-)
I don't have this game but for some reason I can't resist watching you play it lol

That roundabout tool is the coolest thing I've ever seen
but which mod is it?
@@mortxiii its really easy to find and use cities skylines mods, just type in something along "roundabout builder" in the steam workshop and youll prob find it
My traffic flow was 5% and I thought that was good...

Yeah I think you have it reversed...

It's really nice to see bicycle lanes and footpaths being so much included by you, definitely a relevant and often seen way to deal with the traffic here in Europe.

RT's one way city worked flawlessly though!
Exactly my thoughts!
I don't even know or play the game but this is relaxing to watch haha
I don't want to see my city fixed, I want to fix cities. That seems more fun than the actual game. Thought though: when cleaning up city traffic, contrast road upkeep costs before and after.
I agree, my only issue is that I'm not that familiar with all of the popular mods people use, so if I download a city I'm not quite sure how that would work since I mostly play vanilla. Would Cities automatically install the mods it needs for that city? I guess there is only one way for me to know
I've never heard of this game before but you've got me interested!
Can you please fix the traffic in the city of Atlanta
ikr lol. tbh, its not that bad, but i dont work, so i probably dont know what its like
Wow, you are doing a great job there.
I always try to completely eliminate private vehicles by having a lot of public transport and using those neat Old Town districts, so my traffic flow is usually >90%, but your solutions for a not-so-eco-friendly city are very interesting. Might try that out (although I'll probably end up with my old ways again... hehe). Car-free towns just do run very smoothly and create so much less noise pollution, solving two problems at once.
the traffic at the start is literally where i live all of the time, god bless the m25 for ruining my whole borough
Those two roundabouts called for total elimination and replacement with additional ramps to complete the interchange
2 rules will get you a working city:
Keep up the great videos :)
Only suggestion if you want to call it that is personally I like to put a sort of express path from industrial areas to harbors. Usually underground if its a significant distance away since they view it as an optimal path and keep trucks off the streets over all.
I've found that having sections, like housing and industry sections, with one way streets going through it focus the traffic in a more manageable way.
Also, having Highway to a sub-highway to main streets also helps divide traffic in manageable ways
These also make it more desirable to walk or use mass transit as driving makes you go a longer way to get out of sections
I like the traffic mod you are using to control traffic flow, the lanes they use and to make them give way. Although to be more realistic the mod needs an extra button called "including SUV's and Merc drivers!" Love the vid's, keep em coming.
I really like this series. You are giving me ideas on how to have better traffic flow. So thanks for that.
You're welcome :-)
Super close to 200K subs congrats 🎉🎊🎈 👏👏
Thank you! Can't wait :-)
I would've left roads connected, but made it so you couldn't turn across traffic. I would've also added more highway connections and more highway crossings, even to where I shorten existing connections.
i think this is the best series for me............. just loving it.
Nice thankyou :-)
Hey, I want to see you fix actual world cities in your videos. It would be interesting to see a city be changed and see the improvements.
Learned a lot from this, was having issues with a main road creating very dense traffic and I think I can fix it now. Thanks
I actually love the real time mod, it creates a nice challenge on managing the traffic on top of the realism it adds
dang 4% that's news to me!! never thought it could get that bad! good job fixing it Biffa!
How many people has Biffa "murdered" during his Fix It series? lol
Yeah, he deletes buildings instead of moving them. You just murdered a hundred people in that building! lol
theres something oddly satisfying about watching all these city fixes. haha my brother showed me some like a month ago and ive lost count of how many hours of these ive seen now
I live in an area that utilizes those middle turning lanes. They're nicknamed 'suicide lanes'. Indeed, they are a horrible decision in busy areas.
HauntedShadowsLegacy where I live we have that and well it lives up to its name
Where I grew up we called them chicken lanes cause you're playing chicken with the left-turners coming on the opposite way.
I'm so happy to see a video on this mod!!! These videos are getting better and better.
Thank you Thunderstruck :-)
I don't even know that game and it's the second 30-minute vid I'm watching
The game is cities skylines and it's fun to play I swear and frustrating if ur Garbage trucks stopped working and the city for polluted because of the trash that haven't got collected
And everyone got sick lol
Got here via Jalopnik. Watching you work and hearing your commentary is mesmerizing.
Welcome and thankyou 👍😀
I would place a tollbooth just after the highway junction (the one fastest in to the city with low cost. People that don’t want to pay will drive around an those that have to go fast will pay
I recently purchase Cities Skylines, and absolutely love it! Then I ran across your channel!!! Not only are you VERY entertaining, but I've learned a lot from your videos. Thank You!!
Thankyou and enjoy CS 😀
12:34 - 14:15 didn't help at all. those cars that were "moving again" were being forced to go straight (by the TM:PE lines that were just drawn), when they really wanted to exit into the city. cars already had the far left lane to use to get through.
people need to stop building such dense cities. make citizens drive further. it helps.
"people need to stop building such dense cities" - my intention starting this city was reaching 1 million population
just started watching a few days ago. i dont even play Cities:Skylines but damn its so satisfy when you fix things. keep up the good job.
I thought this was a Sam Bur video
Close :-)
at first i actually submitted it to sam bur but he didn't want to do it, missed a big opportunity seeing that this is the most watched video of biffa :)
They made this city to send to you on purpose, lol. How could you have traffic that bad? Goodness.
lol no, i was working on the city since 2017, playing very infrequently tho. Rush hour was not as penalizing as the Real Time mod. So, when I updated to Real Time, everything went south. Also, I always disable vehicle despawning, which is enabled by default.
@@TurkishKatil lil question, why is vehicle despawning a thing
@@dutchstylz5531 id assume that it has to do with CPU load. Having that many objects in detail within loaded bounds could cause a function overload.
@@TurkishKatil actually that makes alot more sense, thanks for clarification
And I thought MY city traffic wise was awful! 😆 Real Time Mod or not, it's NOTHING compared to this one! 😆 Suddenly, I feel better (no offense)...😏
Lol 😀
after watching you and RTGame, my strategy to cut down on traffic would be to use many meteors on the city. No more traffic to worry about!
a Biffa CS video on my birthday is just pure awesome!
A strategy I don't think I've seen you use in any of your videos so far is using the heavy traffic ban to stop trucks from taking shortcuts on roads that can't handle the traffic. Spotted at least one spot you could have employed it here. Anyway, idk why but I enjoy watching these! Cheers.
What are your mods? You have so much types of road. How do i get those? Thank you.
Never played this game before, but watching traffic jams clear up is oddly satisfying
The edge of the map is where the Matrix starts!
dude i dont'even play this game a lot but u got me addicted on the ocd shiet, keep it up! (ur explanations are really good also)
Looks like Indonesian roads, without the bikes though 😂😂
I was up last night till 3AM watching these, all in realisation that my cities are really bad and these have given me loads of information.
Try creating a replica of Miami lmao. Good luck solving that traffic issue.
Even the Miami of 1983-84 would prove to be impossible to fix. That's why I loved it when the Metrorail opened, I could just ride above the city!
I can not believe how much I love watching you fix traffic
👍
Dear God, what a jumble ! Way too many roads joining up randomly.
So basically you are not supposed to use stop signs?
Someone should make traffic accident mods just to make them useful then.
Kly if collision worked
1 thing I do which helps even more with roundabouts is lane management. I watch a lot of your videos and the amount of videos that I see with roundabouts only having the outside lane being used is enormous.
Yep, looks just like Nashville...
Regular 40 mile back ups for no reason at all at least 2 days out of the week...
I know I’m a late comer on this video, but you’ve given me some ideas on how to clean up my own traffic mess. Thank you!
That 3 mile long walking tunnel would be sketchy as FRIGG
Lol :-)
Biffa: Would you have done anything differently?
Me: First, build frontage roads for the farm roads to eliminate the junctions.
Second, upgrade the main road through the Old Farms to a four lane freeway (two each direction).
Third, eliminate the two roundabouts at the freeway / main road junction there and provide ramps for cars and trucks turning left off the freeway.
Fourth, provide alternate access to the farms and small suburb to and from and across the now two freeways.
Fifth, build a metro!!!
It's the EDSA simulator....you're a legend if you know what I mean...
Real time mod also gives you peak power and water consumption at realistic times of day like evening and morning.
Solar power production dips at night too.
It's tough to deal with haha. Morning and evening traffic sucks then it gets all better at night.
The traffic"
-is this my country?
the difference is that this is a city with a 40k population to have that kind of traffic you would need at least 400k population in real life
I don't know how da hell I ended up on your videos but it's addictive watching this stuff lol.
Fixing traffic by removing half the turning lanes in the city forcing everyone to drive forever.
I applaud you for your skills and knowledge of cities skylines to fix that
To be fair, I've been in longer traffic jams. I think it was like 5 km and took about as many hours.
IcedLance I have been trapped in a less than 1 km bridge for one hour in Jakarta hahaha
well I bet you have never been in a 5km ONE LANE traffic jam when 2 other lanes are completely free and the few people on the free lanes occasionally trying to merge into the blocked one :D
makes me hope for a city skylines 2 with better vanilla traffic
@@brohvakiindova4452 that can happen IRL in the States where there is construction that chokes the road to one lane. People waiting in line actually get *_FURIOUS_* when others use the free lanes properly and merge at the lane closure.
