    Okay, is it just me, or does it seem like there's a number of things that start out in America, but then go overseas to Asia, and just get exponentially better? 😀

      Alex Blair Yep. What's really funny with 7/11 is that the American 7/11 licensed out the brand name to Asian franchisees and then the Asian division got so successful that they bought out the American 7/11 company when they were facing financial troubles (in the late 90s, I think?)

    Originally as the name indicates, in the US they were open from 7 AM to 11 PM, 7 days a week. Back in the day, that was really cool as most small towns had Sunday closing laws and if you were travelling and needed food or a cold drink, it was almost impossible to find anything open except restaurants.
    After the tsunami 7-11 did a lot to get urgent supplies to people. That was when I learned how cool they are in Japan.

    One of the other reasons I liked so much about any of the convenience stores in Japan is the sheer variety of choices of food you can get there,compared to what we have here in Canada and is way way superior. Whenever I was there,not only did I stop by 711's but also Lawsons and Family Marts as well....constantly busy in many locations,it totally puts the ones we have here to shame and its not even close. There's other ones too but those three are what I often went a lot to get stuff. Looking forward to them again sometime next year for my 3rd time to Japan!

    The name _7-11_ originally referred to their hours operation. 7 a.m. to 11 p.m, 7 days/week. In the early 1960s these broad hours were almost unheard of in the USA. I first learned about how nice Asian 7-11s are from the TabiEats UA-cam channel, where they have done several videos on eating stuff from 7-11s in Tokyo.

  • @sgseek

    Thailand 7-11 rice dishes are good. have tried a variety of them and they taste good. No mystery meat, but real meat used and done well, only small portion size. Just ask them to microwave it for you and eat.

  • @Ralesk
    @Ralesk 7 років тому +1

    Osaka 7-Eleven (and FamilyMart too I think): you can buy to-be-warmed-up trays of meals, and... no, you don't need to go home and use your microwave, they have one, will heat it up and you can eat it right there in the corner of the 7-Eleven.

  • @1972TAH

      7 Eleven shops in Asia usually don't have gas filling facilities or Slurpee machines. They are mostly busy and their customers are rarely for dry cleaning, taxis, etc. You order concert tickets online anyway. You mostly go there for snacks, alcohol, or cigarettes. And a lot of male customers reading creepy comic books for free.

    7-11 is not so ubiquitous in my part of Florida. the closest one is 6 miles. far closer are circle k, citgo and sunoco.
    I usually go to the circle k at present. it's the closest. the prices are reasonable. I have to cross the highway to get there, but there's a traffic light and crosswalk.

    You can't get clothes drycleaned at 7-11 in Japan, and there are virtually no pay-as-you-go cellphone plans here either. The rest are mostly true, though. The food selection is obviously different based on which asian country, I wish we had the mashed potato vending machine!In Japan you can get copies of certain official documents issued at 7-11 (think birth certificate, land deed, car title, etc, although the actual documents available are different depending on the laws of the city you live in).

    1:58 Thanks to Amazon's lockers in the US, you can now at least receive Amazon packages to 7-11. While that's not an all purpose mail delivery location, it's at least better than nothing. Though, Amazon is also putting its lockers into 24/7 grocery stores like Safeway. So, receiving packages from Amazon is not exclusive to 7-11. This means that receiving packages at 7-11 in these stores in Asia is not really that unique anymore.

    HK 7 Eleven has all the Chinese food they cook at all the Asian resturants. The 7 Elena in HK can put all the Chinese and Asian resturants out of business.No waiting instant made in 3 minutes microwaved delicious.
