Sadly the owner of the small chain that made it died and the family only cared about money and not maintaining what truly got them that money and now has a regional producer/distributor make their French Onion Dip.
I did a tour with my daughter's class of the Golden Flake factory in Ocala a few years back. Had the chance to try them right off the line, still hot. Most amazing thing EVER!!!!!
I know what u mean I live in Columbiana, and have to take 280 from Chelsea to go to work in inverness. I actually leave like 2hrs before I have to be at work. and I'm glad I do because one day it took me 1hr to get to work when I normally only takes 25mins

So, as far as awesome snacks go, I'm much more apt to grab some chips than I am to grab something sweet! That said, I don't have any chips but I did find some Bacon sunflower seeds! I love sunflower seeds anyway (especially the dill pickle ones) but when I discovered that the greatest flavor, food, seasoning, and scent to ever exist (Bacon) now exists in sunflower seeds...I was just in heaven! So, for me, I would have had the barbecue chips number 1, cheddar sour cream #2, dill pickle #3, sour cream and onion #4, jalapeño #5 and original #6. But I have never tried Golden Flake brand. I'd love to try them!

I live in Ohio but we were in Tennessee last week, and having seen this video I bought every Golden Flake flavor I could find.. The one I absolutely crushed and couldn't stop eating was the crinkle cut Mesquite bbq. I like the flavor of the sweet heat more but the texture of the regular bbq was out of control. I gained 5 lbs in chips this week so thanks for that haha! Every flavor is worth trying for sure
Years ago when traveling we stopped at a convenience store in Indiana and asked for Golden Flake Chips. The clerk looked at us like we had two heads. She said they didn’t carry them in their store because it was a “southern” chip.....like it was a bad thing! My husband and I got a good laugh out of that.
I'm sure I had plenty of Golden Flake chips before I had the dill pickle chips but it is my most vivid memory of them and they are the absolute best!!! I was instantly in love, I was 10 yrs old and my dad bought them for me at gas station in Anniston AL. Yep I love them that much. LOL! Also Barber's French onion dip is something that is hard to find in Georgia but that is my heart! Lol! Obviously I have a lot of fond memories connected to Alabma snacks bought for me by my dad. :) I sure do miss living in Bama.

The dill actually goes with french onion dip really well. The only dip they pair with and the only thing those chips are good for. I mix a bag of sweet heat and a bag of sour cream and chedder together. Just open both bags, pour one in the other, and shake it all up for a min or 2. Best chips ever.

Sweet heat is the best! We don’t get them in Colorado, so when I go home to LA, I always have some. I recently went to a Cracker Barrel and they had Sweet Heat Charles Chips. Not the same :(
Early years grew up with Utz, but it's been Golden Flake after that. I am thrilled to see both companies together now. I like the Utz hot chips. They're good. But they better never ever change my Golden Flake Hot chips. Nobody else makes a hot chip like that, with that burn. Or even that kind of burn. Honestly I have to resist buying them because the bag won't make it home. Makes me smile just thinking about it.

Here in England we have Strong Cheddar grated and Onion raw and baked beans on our Baked potatoes. Split that hot spud open and add cheese, onion and beans. Fit for a king. chuck in a decent sausage and you go to heaven.

They aren't as good as they *used* to be though. I remember in the 90s and 00s they would be redder than the devil, probably 80% of the bag, and it would set your butthole on fire. Now they're like plain with 10% seasoning, and one or two red ones thrown in. I've recently discovered Uncle Ray's Hot and Utz Hot and BOTH are superior to GF (and it pains me to say this, as a Southern woman).

As a native Alabamian I wanna know where you buy your Golden Flake chips bc getting seven of these bad boys with none of them having been missed by the chip powder fairy is a pipe dream in my part of the state.

In Pennsylvania our most famous regional chip is MIDDLESWORTH. When I was in the army my family would send them to me when I was stationed in Korea, California and Germany. Yes they are that good.

Sweet heat is the best! We don’t get them in Colorado, so when I go home to LA, I always have some. I recently went to a Cracker Barrel and they had Sweet Heat Charles Chips. Not the same :(
Early years grew up with Utz, but it's been Golden Flake after that. I am thrilled to see both companies together now. I like the Utz hot chips. They're good. But they better never ever change my Golden Flake Hot chips. Nobody else makes a hot chip like that, with that burn. Or even that kind of burn. Honestly I have to resist buying them because the bag won't make it home. Makes me smile just thinking about it.
Wanting a slice of white bread with your chips is dangerously close to a potato chip sandwich, one of my childhood favorites.

I’ve noticed that nobody has commented yet I live in Alabama A&M Iowa having white sauce on my baked potatoes with sour cream and cheese on the baked potatoes it is delicious
Here in England we have Strong Cheddar grated and Onion raw and baked beans on our Baked potatoes. Split that hot spud open and add cheese, onion and beans. Fit for a king. chuck in a decent sausage and you go to heaven.

They aren't as good as they *used* to be though. I remember in the 90s and 00s they would be redder than the devil, probably 80% of the bag, and it would set your butthole on fire. Now they're like plain with 10% seasoning, and one or two red ones thrown in. I've recently discovered Uncle Ray's Hot and Utz Hot and BOTH are superior to GF (and it pains me to say this, as a Southern woman).
@@WeberIMayRoam You are right on the money. Uncle Rays hot is outstanding. Full stop. Utz Hot is right up there with it. But Golden Flake Hot is a different kind of hot and not like those others or like anyone else's hot chips. Utz already owns Golden Flake and I wish they would buy Uncle Rays.
