Such a great looking car. A shame they didn't produce a VF version as a final swan song. Thanks for another great vid. Which reminds me. Better get onto to doing one of my own.
Absolutely loved this car back in the day, when I use to see that TV commercial with the large hurricane or typhoon in the Aussie outback back in 2005 I think it was I fell in love with this beast, they’ve become very rare and have gone up in value depending on the model but damn they still look good, it looks like a modern car. The 5.7L LS1/2 engine made solid power between the 225-260 kW mark depending on the tune you got and they sounded so sweet, the 4 speed slushbox was ok for its time but most preferred the manual, official 0-100 was estimated around 5.7-6.5 seconds which isn’t mindblowing by modern standards but they still went hard from in gear acceleration. Such a beauty of a machine, when Aussie roads were filled with real cars not SUV’s and Ute’s.
I agree Ross - 2000 to 2007 were golden years. Ford under Politis, Holden under Hanenberger (butchered their names I’m sure) I remember going to car stands and seeing the blue oval turbos, GTs came back as did the Monaro, and the HSVs were really good, Cross8’s were insane and you even had Toyota get in on the act with the TRD Aurions and Hilux’s. Like you I kept my two B series gems and love the VU-VZ Utes, what a great shape. Oh well hey at least I can buy a BYD now…😢
Great video. The V2 Monaro is my absolute favourite Holden. They look perfect to me, and drive better than the equivalent sedan did. I also agree that the 5.7 with the right exhaust and intake sounds the best of the LS variants.
Nice review mate, speaking of the VE/VF Monaro there was a concept car produced in 2008 called the coupe 60 which would have been the third Monaro series which is based on the ve. It’s in the Australian motor museum in birdwood or atleast it was.
Great review of the VZ Monaro, the owner has done some great work to this car. Love the interior and it’s interesting to hear it’s out of Troy’s Monaro. Also love the brake upgrade and the sound of the 6 speed manual. Sounds better than the auto. I always liked the look of these Monaro’s. The colour looks ready good too.
Nice to see cars that are fewer. The reason I changed to a Ford man after having slr lj 2 door Brock commodore is because, I was so blown away when I seen a gt 335., them typhoons pursuit Ute's are just not around every corner like a commodore comparing this century's vehicles.
Its unfortunate the Boss motor just has such a short ceiling of potential. I know Ford guys will say they aren't as bad as they seem and I know you can put a blower on them etc but as far as aftermarket and N/A mods its a shame they weren't like the LS.
A good honest everyday build, not too over the top or overly expensive. Nice to see more "normal cars" as opposed to big dollar street machine magazine cars.
This is my favourite all time car. Not the GTO or GTS coupes but this.... Had them on my wall since I was 7 (when it launched) CV6 was a joke because it was like all L67s ... AUTO ONLY FFs! "Back seats" lmfao! They even have a twin child seat mount points from factory! 🤣
I have a Cosmo purple VY Monaro with fluted bonnet and more power and l brought my Baby Daughter home from the hospital in it when she was born, one of the reasons I won't ever sell it.
If u ever in New Zealand ill take u 4 a hoon in my stock VY GTO NZ NEW, 6 speed manual. Black on Black beast with 250k on the clock..Was my daily driver 4 7 years but parked up now.. Cheers and peace from New Zealand
Awesome car! Great to see! The Monaro has a special place in my heart. I grew up in Australia but now live in the UK where I have owned 2 over here. Had a CV8 LS1 as my daily when there were new for 4 or 5 years and absolutely loved it. Wanted another ever since and now have a red HSV GTO LS2 (rebadged here as a Monaro VXR). Many mods and making around 500bhp. They have so much personality and are simple to work on yourself compared to European cars.
How can a 2 door that’s supposedly built in australia be more expensive in the country of origin than what it is overseas in places like the US? Literally makes 0 sense / but by heavens are these things way too expensive right now!

I’d love to get in a GTO
Yeah bro, my 2003 VY GTO NZ New is the sickest!!!
I love purple my favourite colour. The monaro was amazing. Im sad they didnt bring out the torana concept in VE liftback but oh well.
I totally agree! Awesome car
Big monaro fan as they were soo much more than just a 2 door commodore. Not keen on the 20 inch rims though but thats just me
I love the Walkies but yes the Monaro definitely has grown on me
@RossReviewsau I don't mind walkies but they're too big for the car
@@michaelhart5886 Agree
Anything over 18 just hurts performance anyway
Great review Ross. What a sick Monaro with such a tuff exhaust note 🤙🏽 A credit to the owner. Cosmo purple is definitely one of Holdens best colours 💜
It's the Manta twin 3 inch, l have a full stainless Manta 3 inch dual system on my modified VY Monaro which is also Cosmo purple and it sounds mint.

i haven't spoken to him yet but would absolutely kill to do a video with that car!
I was thinking the same. Excellent collab awaits.
I remember seeing first one at the Sydney motor show. And would been cool if Holden and ford Australia bought out more two door cars
Would have been very cool to be their back the
Wow that’s a factory color? Looks like midnight purple.. beautiful.

Yep. Designed in Australia though.
