    Hey Zane! Small world! We went to grad school together and I remember you talking about bonsai as one of your final projects. I was the guy that did somewhat funny videos for most of my projects, including at least one with you in it. I am an avid gardener and have been for most of my life. I've maxed out most of my garden space; my specialty is cacti and succulents. However, I thought I'd try my hand at bonsai and was considering building a plant shelf dedicated to that prospect. I bought an orange bougainvillea the other day and was going to give that a try. I have 4-5 bougainvilleas in the garden and believed it'd be a good candidate. I searched "bonsai bougainvillea" and heard your voice - "Wait what?" I'll start watching your videos now for your advice. Great to see you continuing with your passion.

      Thank you! I water my portulacarias once they dry out 100%. It depends on the soil and season but if you use well draining soil then usually daily in the summer

    A beginner here, I found your video very interesting…. Thank you for sharing all your work! I learned a lot today! As a new subscriber I have not watched all your videos…. Hopefully when I watch them I will be learning enough to get going with this new project for me.. I transplanted today a Jade plant I had in a large pot with other plants and a timely advise from you to place them on the ground since I had placed on top of a stone… should a new transplant get 3-4 hours of sun or no sun at all?

    • @zanestrees
      @zanestrees  2 місяці тому +1

      3-4 hours should be good since jade is a succulent. Enjoy the journey!

    I thought the smaller limb on the bottom added width and shape, kind of a miniature fig tree look, looking at the display along the back wall you do seem to tend towards a similar style of design.

      I totally see what you mean on that branch. It was the lack of thickness in relation to the upper branches that made me decide to remove it. I definitely have a style so went with what was more comfortable. Thanks for the feedback!

    Am I making a mistake by placing my clippings and branches in top soil instead of well draining soil ?

    • @zanestrees
      @zanestrees  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes dwarf jade will rot in wet soil so need well draining soil. They propagate best in the summer

      Hello! I use cactus/succulent soil while the plant is in development but when in a bonsai pot, I use pumice/lava/akadama. I have a video all about my soil mix on my Instagram and TikTok pages.

I am just beginning to get involved in this aspect of working with plant and I would like to have as much information as possible..
