    @ 3:20 *Buteyko Method:*
*(1) Small breath in (2) Small breath out (3) Hold your nose & count 5 sec (4) Let go & breath gently for 10 - 15 sec (5) Repeat.* Do this during a wheeze, breathlessness, or cough. It's very effective, but we need to continue to do it.
If there is no response after 5 minutes, take puffer(s) medication right away.
@ 4:45 Coughing: #1 is to NOT take the big breaths during a cough. If you feel a tickle: *HOLD YOUR BREATH OR SWALLOW or try not to cough.*

I just now tried this technique for the first time during an intense asthma attack and it worked beautifully! My lungs are still a little tight, but the attack is over now (less than 10 minutes), and I'm absolutely amazed and grateful beyond measure. Because of extreme chemical sensitivities, I am not able to use an inhaler, so this will be godsend for me. Thank you so very much for making this video freely available. It is quite literally a life saver!

I have just used this method as I could feel an asthma attack starting to happen, I was coughing, wheezing, breathing really heavily, chest tightness, all the usual symptoms. I went on here to try and find some breathing techniques to help me and I have got to say this one has really worked for me my breathing has now calmed, I'm not coughing any more, I'm still a bit wheezy but it has broken that cycle you get yourself into when you have an asthma attack. I will continue to use this technique.

Thank you Patrick for posting this. A little over 4 years ago I watched your video. I was having a mild asthma attack and my inhaler just wasn't working 100%so I googled asthma and breathing and found your video. I tried the Buteyko breath hold and found it worked. I have been using the Buteyko method ever since and have reduced my need for inhalator about 95%. I do still need it during my allergy season but before I reach for it I try the breath holds and the breathing usually works. I will say its not easy to change hyperventilating habit and breathing through mouth but I found it worth the effort. I also have changed my diet which has made a difference too. Thanks again, for me your video and the Buteyko method changed my life.

l'm eternally grateful for this, l bought his book/video. l was going through a ventolin every two days and the preventer wasn't making much difference. It was just getting worse and l was facing going on even heavier medication. l have been using the breathing techniques ( basically just keeping my mouth shut and trying to breath less and the attacks just don't come up). l hardly use the ventolin now,at this rate l reckon l can be asthma free in a year or maybe less. l should have done this years ago but had a bad experience with a therapist who was trying to get me to breath through my diaphragm. l couldn't do it and felt frustrated. These techniques are really effortless and this guy is a great teacher. Don't be an idiot like me. Don't think you can get the gist by watching a video or two, buy the pack and read the book if your a bad asthmatic. It is priceless and a gift from heaven for me. If you read this and have a question l'm happy to answer but l don't sell the product or teach the method. Thanks Patrick!

For those suffering with asthma now and can't wait for 7 min,
Hold breathe upto count of five and then gently breathe for 10-15 sec.
Caution:- keep your mouth shut,i.e., don't breathe with your mouth,
Else you will allow cough to worsen and this would cause cycles of coughing.
Do this as many times you want and especially when you are close to an attack.
You can do this without or with your medicines along,as per your wish.
Extra:- lay on bed in upright position, while sleeping.
Well, thanks doc, your voice is so charming and above all, your nature to help people like me.
And to all the people reading,
Trust yourself. You will heal soon.

My mother had really bad asthma for 17 years (1973-1990). In winter, she couldn't even walk to the corner without having an asthma attack. Someone told her to take vitamin zinc @ 75mg EVERYDAY with food and some vitamin C. At 3 months she was completely cured. I mean, never again wheezing or an asthma attack. Also, in 1998 my father had to have 3 asthma treatments (one after the other) in one day and he was given a bag of asthma medicines to take for life. He did what my mother did and in about 3 months, never again had to take the asthma medicines again. Also, many persons have called me several months later to thank me from the bottom of their hearts because either they or their loved one no longer has asthma. The very rare times that I heard my mother wheezing, was because she had totally forgotten about taking the zinc for some time. (Don't know if it works for children, maybe 10 - 30mg but have absolutely no experience or idea if or how much would work on children.)

Pinching your nose opens up chest airways by acupressure reflex (gv26).
You can get the same effect naturally without any anitics by tightening lips (stiff upper lip).
In an asthma attack like do not gasp for air with slack lips and instead inhale with firm lips to relax chest irways by acupressure reflex gv26. So fiddling with the nose and tightening lips have the same workings.

Great to hear it was helpful to you @tinytinymustrdseed.
It can be counterintuitive for people not to breathe big gulps of air through the mouth when they are trying to get more oxygen.
But nose breathing while relaxed and creating a moderate 'air hunger' is exactly what you should do in that situation to ease your symptoms and improve gas exchange from the lungs to the blood.
Hope you had a pleasant snooze. 😀

This is really good advice and similar to what I do myself. It's really hard avoiding the tempation not to cough or breathe in deeply but it really does calm the whole area down and keeping the breathing as shallow as possible means the phlem will loosen up and come up by itself. I do disagree with the comment about sitting up to do this though but perhaps that is fine for many people. I find I need to lie down flat as this makes all my muscles as relaxed as possible. I actually do this way more effective than ventolin.

I use a neutralizer with Albuterol to break up thick saliva and mucus.
Keep in mind all the well meaning people some of its in our DNA and in my case my age and bodies deterioration might equal a out of control immune system. You need profesional care fro this no guess work. In the UK more than 300 people die every year from Asthma here in the USA it all most never happens. Once It was close I was intubated with a tube down my throat and i was put on life support. Over years it has not gotten better but worse.
I think most of us have allergies because we are dehydrated and the ENT part of our body suffers the most from it Sinuses dry up and begin to malfunction .
I am not yet sure but I think that's how it begins. Read about drinking water and its benefits all parts of our brain benefit and the ENT of our bodies also benefit. After a month or drinking the recommended 80 ounces a day or near it I will never stop. My health is improving . . that's all i am prepared to say right now. except in two weeks after you start drinking you will feel smarter ! and you will be. After that you find better solutions good luck.

Thanks. The neutraliser sounds like a good idea and something worth trying. There is some very interesting research being done at a British University into the theory that asthna might be a problem with the calcium receptors not working properly. If so then a tablet medication could be devised which would be really great.

Richard Harding More than 3000 people die from fatal asthma attacks each year in the USA. If the Buteyko Breathing Technique was widely know, that number would be much, much lower. I had severe asthma for twenty five years and since learning BBT and employing it in my daily life, I have been symptom and medication free for more than ten years now. Every asthmatic should now about the Buteyko Breathing Technique.

A nurse in the ER told me the following. She said you no able to get out the carbon dioxide because the inflammation was preventing it. Because my lung are filled with the old air there is no room for new air. She blow out hard like blowing out birthday candles.
I keep with me in my pocket or in the car or both a Pulse meter because I know what sate i am in when I read my o2 count. So the the first time I got into trouble I remember what she said. The Pulse meter confirmed that my o2 whent up after just a few times.
I kept the meter on my finger an drove the hospital when ever my o2 got a little less I would blow out birthday candles it it would get back to normal or near it.
over all it was a safe journey but the trick works great. I have use both methods and I think they can be used successfully in combination. A your fears are under control as you see the immediate effect.

Richard Harding That's interesting. Blowing out hard would be a really bad idea for me but it obviously works with you. Although you still felt you needed to go to the hospital. Would this method perhaps prevent that altogether?

No Once the attack is in play I can only mitigated the effects to help me go to the ER. The Exhaust Bronch swells up so exhaling is not very effective. . but I have had other attack when i needed to hold my breath to get my numbers up. I recommend a pulse meter so you can watch the effects and see what you need to do. Without a pulse meter you can't be sure of your situation. I recently had a Asthma attack that took 4 days in the hospital before I stabilized. I also used two epi pens to stable myself to go the ER. Do not mess around with Astham it has nearly killed me many times. If you have Asthma don't guess about your condition get a pulse meter they are cheap check out Amazon. Keep a rescue inhaler and epi pen near. Many doctors still don't know the value of a epi pen with Asthma. in short you heart beats faster putting o2 in the blood stream faster and has saved my life several times. Don't wait long to use it better to soon than to late. glk

An Epi Pen? Do you have an allergy or do you actually use this for the athsma itself? I do sometimes use a Piriton type antihistamine as I find this effective. It sounds like your attacks come on very suddenly.

Blacksquareable My Attack go from Im ok but I feel the Attack to 10 min latter I am callg 911 for help in 3 word sentances. Asthma damages you and I think over time it gains the upper hand. I am alive today because I am prepared fo the worst where ever I go. But I strong indictators that Vitimims are protecting me from attacks. The Vitimins seam to be a very powerfull solution. I am search for the combination I need most I have about 20 or more that I get benifit from but its not pratical to take all 2 twice a day. So I am looking at Liquid Vitimins And of course " greens, Fruits and vegitables . . And Exersise !!
Yes that is one of my triggers so I take Vitimins to prepare .
" get fit " if you do that your 1/2 way there. "
Maybe next year I will come back and say I have become Asthma free. But remember what works for me or another might now work for you.
we are not all broken in the same way.
      Good luck

Asthma is most frustrating to me indeed. Very disruptive to my sleep. Wish me luck. During this method, I also try meditating as well and just try to relax. Quick question. During asthma season, any relation as to why I crave soda which I know as a fact is very unhealthy? Thank you for any feedback.

hi , for the reduced breathing method. when you exhale , you exhale softly , quietly , but for for how long ? until all air is emptied ? and then when u inhale softly and quietly , for now long ? until you have filled ur self up with air ?

    • @ButeykoClinicInternational
      @ButeykoClinicInternational  4 роки тому

Hi Chin. Listen to: Buteykoclinic.com/reduced-breathing Do slow breathing, deep breathing using the diaphragm placing your hands on lower two ribs. Breathe slowly with expansion and contraction of the lower two ribs- biomechanics. Also, spent time practicing reduced shallow breathing - biochemistry. Gently slow down your breathing. The purpose is not to maximize the lungs with air. The purpose is to breathe deeply but without breathing hard. Breathe slow and silent. Breathe so that you feel hardly any air entering the nose. As you breathe feel the lower ribs move outwards and inwards. Shallow breathing is not efficient for improving oxygen delivery to the blood. You can breathe into the lower regions of the lungs with very light breaths. It’s a balance. Breathing should be deep, but not hard. Its simple but not so simple.

The breathing process was the same if I used an inhaler.. that is, that i'd breath it in, and hold the breath about 5 to 10 seconds.. take a couple of breaths, and do it again. So I tried this without the inhaler, and it worked! I'm not sure yet if it's an O2 deprivation or a build up of CO.. but it works. I also realized that sometimes I'd tried to relax and hyper ventilate when i felt an attack coming.. and they were bad.. I'm convinced the hyperventilation actually made the attacks worse.

(30minutes before I write this...I almost died, because I have decided to quit my medication for asthma. I don't want to use pills forever)
I have been learning English for 1 year just for add my english vocabulary and improve my English...I mean with that I can find solutions for my asthma, because there are many sources in English.
Before that I have tried "wim breathing"... But your method works better for me faster for my asthma. So I hope my asthma is gone forever andd also have fit body like you.
    Thank you very much.
