It was a tough bite out there! This was my best day out of a couple trips to this spot, the previous one I had a few muskie follows but ended up getting skunked.
Any day catching is a good day, regardless of the size of fish caught IMO. Even if you don't catch anything, being on the water and in nature is good for the soul.
Braving the chill in search of some river beasts...why not??? You caught a few, finished with a nice pike up by the dam and probably learned something. Success. Thanks for taking us along Matt. We'll see you next time. Blessings
Thanks Matt, I really enjoyed this river trek that resulted in some nice pike! Looking very much forward to those river monsters later in the fall! Take care and be safe!
Matt, Ty for a great Saturday morning watching. I get excited when I see your on thanks. Sounded like you got the lure as a perk from a company , They gave it to the right person.

Thanks for another episode, Matt. Looking forward to your ice fishing drops. My daughter is at UND, and there's snow on the ground. I figure safe ice isn't too far off. I know it's difficult to put out weekly episodes when you're going through other issues, so thank you! Life ain't fair, I've been in your shoes. My only comment is, keep doing what's right, good things will come.
Love the fact that you are still using your Tarpon 120 after this many years. I just recently acquired a Pelican Catch 120 from my uncle and I love it. It’s understandable how you mainly stick with one kayak if it really fits you
I’ll fish from my Tarpon until I put a hole through the hull! Maybe longer I guess lol, I had a crack at one of the scrupper hole bottoms that would let several gallons of water in per trip toward the end of summer, had to plastic weld that one.
Hey heyyyyyy Matt 👋🥸... This was awesome, I'm so glad that I get to tag along on some of your expeditions since my injury I haven't been able to fish.. and I absolutely love fishing sooooo.. Ty for allowing me to tag along.. See you on the next one an stay safe out there.. Buh Bye from Central Canada 👋🤓
Nice pike video, Matt. Sounds like your weather changed this week. Friends in the Fargo-Moorehead area posted pictures of their first snow storm moving through. Stay warm. Tight Lines!
Would love to catch some of those pike and muskie but they don't have them in California.love your show Rob from California.good luck and be safe out there.
Pike don't GaS about getting caught. I had the same fish twice on more than one occasion one had the lure clamped in his mouth not hooked and eventually tossed it at the boat. Then seeing it splash down he hit it again and was hooked for sure. Another one put back in the water hit the lure dangling beside him. I think they get mad and go into attack mode. I use Perch Rapala and strangely a 5 Mepps with a rubber worm on one hook. It seems to work I don't know why. Mepps are awesome.
Smashing video like it alot love the pike perch an muckey videos tho carnt beat them plus on a kayak for play bud keep up the good work still watching afder 3 years ❤
I fished the bunny lure earlier this summer, didn’t have the greatest day with it but I caught a few bass. I’m holding onto the footage still I might upload it closer to spring time.
FWIW, this is a $140 swim bait. 😳 It really moves and I do love that white stripe on top for visual orientation. Metro Glide is no longer offered in this perch color, however, just Night Shiner, RG Shad, Golden Shad, and Crappie. Just as a very long shot, the Crappie version might just catch the biggest smallmouth in your river. Really big smallmouth love to eat crappies. I caught a 6-1 smallmouth on the New River in Virginia that puked up a crappie as I fought it, and had another half-way down its crushers when I landed it. Frankly until then I didn’t even know there were crappie in there! FWIW. 😮
Yeah that’s why I played it safe with a steel leader on this one! I’ve tried a smaller crappie glide bait for smallies and caught several nice ones, but I might have to try one of these bigger ones some time! I know I saw a really nice looking crappie one quite a bit cheaper, maybe the Bass Pro brand one. I’ll be doing some lure shopping the next month or so to get some new stuff for next year!
When you first caught a long and big fish, why did you release it again? Why didn't you take it home to enjoy? I'm curious about the taste of the fish you caught.
Man I watch you all the time I would love to have a few lures from you signed I love you content I lure hut slot at lakes I bet there's some nice ones lost at the lakes you go to
Yeah they aren’t cheap. I get a little nervous tossing those expensive lures. I kind of prefer cheaper stuff, that way I can bring a spare. There’s nothing worse than only having one and losing it to a tree snag or something then my day of filming is pretty much done.
I either tie a 50lb fluoro leader or use a 30lb steel Berkley leader. Expensive lures like this I like to play it safe with steel, although it would probably have a little better action running a fluoro leader.
I'm 66 and I fish to fish, I don't care to much about size, I just like to catch and release, I did keep a few trout for my Mom when she was alive, But I wonder do you keep any or are you just fishing for the fun? Maybe catch the State record of whatever species that got on your hook?
Usually I fish for fun, I’m more looking to get footage than fill my freezer. I might keep a few pike though once I start getting them through the ice. My three year old daughter loves fish but she always picks the breading off so I’d like to try baking some pike fillets one of these days.
Do you attach a split ring at the end of your leader? I recently got into glidebaits and realized attaching the bait directly to the snap kills the action due to the "gap".

It’s foam from water turbulence at the tall dam a short distance upstream.

It’s a Frabill conservation series, 25 or 26x30 if I remember right.
