(4:20) The screen knows what to do. It's just that the effect of the screen is to make the image brighter. Each iteration becomes brighter and brighter, until it's pure white. When you're up close, you see many iterations in, and it's just white. But it's displaying it correctly.

Screen turning white when seeing itself is a sign, that the game absolutely knows what it's doing. If it wouldn't, the edges would keep repeating indefinately. The screen eventually turns white because of the simple fact, that the screen shows the entire frame with slightely higher brightness, and that repeats itself for every version the screen shows of it in itself. Every iteration gets slightely brighter, until every pixel reached the limit of max white. It would be the same story with the screen turning darker or basically shifting the screen display zo any color - which devs usually do to make the screen look like a screen and not show perfectly clean original graphics.
The N64 didn't have this ability to alter the repeated image, which is why the screen you see in MK64 shows an exact representation of screen graphics. And it's limited power was the reason for the low framerate on that screen, but kinda impressive, that it could do that at all. From there on, screen space effects were pretty normal. Many games used them for mimmicking water effects. And even modern games still do. They take an internal picture of a water surface, add 2D ripples to this graphic and put the ripple version back into the game. It has been shown nicely on this channel in various episodes.

The opening statement about the models reminded me that the instruction manual alone made it obvious this was made by Sega and not Nintendo. They use low-res stock art with jpeg artifacting with for all the Mario characters. Except for Peach and Daisy. They actually got new renders, perhaps because it wouldn't make sense for them to be in dresses in this game.
Something that's honestly kinda crazy about that particular model of big the cat standing in the background of the awards ceremony is that it appears to be the model from sonic adventure 2, or at least a shockingly similar one. I have to wonder if they were specifically trying to reference his cameos in that game, where he would basically do the same thing...
Bigs the Cat looks like he's been up for 92 hours straight and just wants the Olympics to end already.

My favorite type of boundary break, cursed models
Big just standing in the background is an ongoing joke in Sonic series where he just shows up randomly in the background. Almost every artwork SEGA puts out he’s there somewhere in the background.
"I'm so sorry" he says, unaware that this is the greatest episode in Boundary Break history
Always love a fresh boundary break vid, even when it's for a game I never want to play (like this one), it's still great to see the way dev's use tricks to achieve certain looks and find all those hidden bits we would never see.
All these caved in heads seems canon to me for how many bricks they hit with their head.

I didn't even notice Waluigi was without his mustache until you pointed it out, so yeah he really doesn't look too different without it. Fascinating.
Interesting to note. The design techniques SEGA used for Character asset modeling are vastly different than what Nintendo uses. SEGA seems to make them like action figures, while Nintendo makes them like clay figures.

Fun fact, you can actually damage CCTV cameras by pointing them at the monitors they're attached to. I would do that as a teen in Sam's Club as they had demo models of home security cameras that were connected to a TV but, for whatever reason, the display stands were moveable, so I'd rotate the cameras to face the screen, which would show static for a few seconds then "Signal Lost". I got yelled at by an employee for doing that, which was when they informed me that it overloads something in the camera and destroys it.
