- Here's a look inside the Roaster's Tent at Roasters Guild Retreat 2022 (August 25-28 in Delavan, Wisconsin). We get a quick look at all 9 coffee roaster manufacturers who were there, plus a deeper look at three specific machines. The tent is one of my favorite things about Roasters Guild Retreat, because it's rare that I have the opportunity to try out so many machines back-to-back. I spent a lot of time in the tent over the course of these four days, and still didn't get around to playing with every machine. Even still, I wanted to share some of these machine with you! So grab some green and come check out these coffee roasters with me!
Timestamps include:
1:14 Quick look at all 9 machines (in order: Probat, Stronghold, San Franciscan, Diedrich, Proaster, Arc Roaster, Loring, Ikawa, Giesen)
2:26 Diedrich DR-3
7:25 Loring 1kilo roaster (not for sale!)
9:03 Giesen W1A
As far as takeaways, or what machines did I like better... I can't really answer that. I didn't get enough time on any machine to really develop a preference for any one or two roasters. Instead, I jumped on a few machines just enough to get a feel of the functionality, the controls, and how it pushes heat into those beans. Overall, I enjoyed playing with all these machines!
Do you have a favorite small roaster? Have you tested out any of these machines? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for watching, and happy roasting!
Wow there’s some beautiful machines! I can only dream of having one of these one day. Great video!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the vid! Hope to attend the next one :)
I hope so too! See you there :)
Most roasters here in Singapore use Giesen while a few of them use Probat. Thank you for sharing with us these videos.
Thanks for sharing! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video Kat, the roasters you looked at seem to be great machines.
Thanks much! It was rad to check out all these machines - I only wish I had more time with them to really figure them out. Oh well, next time :)
@@roasterkat we never seem to have enough time in our lives, too do what we want.🤔
Hi Kat, love your videos on Roasting Coffee.
Do you a video where you explain how you became a Coffee Roaster and which are the steps that you took to become one? I want to open a small Coffee Roaster Company but I am just starting my journey and try to find as much information possible. Much appreciate your help and expertise. Keep up the good work!!!!
Hey, great question. I don't have a video like that, but I have some info on my Instagram where I talk about my journey into roasting. I have never opened my own shop though, so don't have experience there. Good luck with it!
That 1k Loring looks cool, shame it's not actually on the market. I roast on a Loring 70 and love the thing, the small Ikawa sample roasters are fun to play around with too!
Nice! Yeah I'm on the 35k Loring most of the time, and the little 1k was fun to play around with. No production in its future, you'll have to see it at a trade show!
So this is like RoastCon 2022 🤟
Basically, yeah!
Were the Ikawa's roasters also? If so, that would be interesting.
Yeah, they had 3 Ikawas there! I didn't have time to play on them though :(
I have a brand new 6KG Yoshan coffee roaster for sale.
Good luck! Sounds cool.
Looks like Giesen hasn't learned that you shouldn't let an engineer design a user experience.
Haha - it's definitely got a lot going on!
