You did better than me! I made it up to the ladder where you had to shimmy across along the cable and I couldn’t do it. Fear of heights. I backed down and took the Underwood trail to get to McCrae.
Nice, I did Profile trail to calloway peak to mccrae peak to swinging bridge to underwood trail and back all the way down to profile parking lot. 12.6 miles
I did this hike on this 4th of July. I made it to the top of Calloway peak. This hike is not for those with Acrophobia! Lets just say about 80 hikers started with me and only a dozen made it to the top of Calloway alongside me.
i made it all the way through calloway peak today, we didnt take grandfather trail back though because there was ice, i had a ton of fun and its about like 8 mile rouns trip
Michael Medina thanks so much!! It was our 3rd time on the trail, we were able to finally take the kids we work with on it and they loved it (since they’re all teenage boys they also made me nervous half the time) ha
Ayoo! I found ur channel again lol, I hiked from the blue ridge parkway, up to calloway peak* last weekend! 7 miles, 2k feet up and down! Happy Climbing! And I took my 10 inch tall chihuaha lol xD
Hey I hiked the grandfather trail fourth of July week and climbed the latter's at that ledge just fine, but coming back down at that narrow ledge with the cable, I got spooked and froze up on the ladder for a while. I understand the feeling. Enjoyed the video.
Nicki Howe hope you enjoyed the trail!!! Our next move is to hit the Profile Trail and make the trip to Calloway a it different. Profile is a 6/7 mile round trip trail
By far the most informative video about Grandfather Mountain trails! We will be there next week and hike the same trails. What was the name of the easier trail down that you took?
So awesome and thanks so much! We’ve hiked the ladders trail 3 times now and I can finally say after the 3rd time doing it, I flew through it and wasn’t scared at all! It was definitely intimidating the first time though.
So for the easier trail back, I don’t remember the name, but once you reach Macrae Peak coming from Grandfather Mountain (ladders trail) and continue toward Calloway (Macrae is about the halfway marker) you’ll come across a fork in the trail with trail signs. One sign will point you toward Calloway, another back toward Macrae (where you came from) and another down the mountain leading you back to the swinging bridge. If I can find the name of the trail I’ll let you know! That trail was definitely more strenuous since it was more elevated with less ladders, but way less terrifying.
My kids and I are doing this trail this weekend and I am scared lol. Not to mention that since we went back in September to try it out a little, I was more physically fit than I am now. I don’t mind the strenuous hiking part, it’s the scary drop offs for me! Aaahhh. Thank you for making this video. At least I’ve got an idea of what I’m facing.
I froze on the ladder #5 and couldn't recover. Wish I did. At 35 (at the time) I just couldn't overcome the "what-if?" I still wonder about a do-over.... 🙄
DO IT! There is always time for a do over if you’re in the area, that’s what we did! First time we did the hike we both froze on ladder 5 and turned around. Second time we did the entire thing (this was the video of the 2nd trip) obviously I froze a few times but still conquered! 3rd time we did it we took the teenage kids we work with and literally blew through the trail! It was a piece of cake (and I also had to keep up with them and they’re daredevils haha)
Awesome video guys/gals!!!! Thanks for posting. We want to do the same trail, but I'm confused: When you get to the Mile High Bridge starting point, do you start on Calloway Peak that connects to Macrae's Peak, or start on Macrae's that connects to Calloway? We want to do no more than 5 miles with the kids.
Hey so like what’s the way less scary trail called that you took to get back because I’d love to do this hike but ain’t no way I’m doing all those vertical climbs and ladders as an out and back descent lol.
These are the types of adventures I love to see!
Thanks Ty!! :)

I got a hiker backpack so I can carry my dog now, lol. I'm going back today lets gooo! The music in this video is fire!!
I took my dog up around grandfather today but stopped at the ladders with him. That would've been clutch lol
Nice, I did Profile trail to calloway peak to mccrae peak to swinging bridge to underwood trail and back all the way down to profile parking lot. 12.6 miles
Woooooo that’s so awesome! We’ve been wanting to hit the profile trail for awhile now, hoping to hike it soon before the weather gets super cold!

Her girl, funny to see you on the trail yesterday after having seen your videos.
Keep on trucking out there!

Thanks!
About to hike this trail today. This was super helpful. Probably won't make it all the way to Calloway, now. LOL

Super Cool! Loved the video! Maybe we'll catch you on the trails sometime!
OMG this looks as scary as it is awesome. I want to go so badly! Tell us more about the less scary path BTW.

How long did it take you to do the Macrae peak trail?

@americasmilitia it was closed when we went due to ice. We’re not giving up! We’ll be back soon!
@@jenrivard133did you end up going?? i’m pretty young and i’m kinda scared of doing this hike but at the same time i want to do it 😭😭
@@nat7300 I suffered a leg injury and we never went but instead hiked the Nuwati Trail nearby
Not to ask a stupid question but is it safe for an athletic guy to go on his own?

Did you ever find out? May be going and was wondering the same thing.
Pretty sure it’s called the profile trail!
What was the path you took on the way down Brittni??
It’s the underwood trail which bypasses all the ladders on the upper route. Hope this helps.
Brittni is braver than I am.
Haha thanks! Heights are not my thing 😂 But I do love hiking!
