- Come explore Grandfather Mountain State park with us! First, we explore the Animal Habitat area, followed by Forest Gump Curve, and lastly the mile-high swinging bridge!
Grandfather Mountain is one of the most visited places in all of North Carolina. The views at Grandfather Mountain are amazing, and there are miles and miles of hiking trails to explore throughout the park.

Awesome video! Do you still have to have a reservation to go to this state park? Are there any other trails in this area that you recommend? Just subbed!
Thanks for the sub! For right now you do still need a reservation but if you visit their website you can reserve a time, or you can call and reserve a spot over the phone! There are so many great hikes in this area. There's good trails through Grandfather State Park, and there are trails all along the Blue Ridge Parkway! One of our favorite trails is Rough Ridge, and of course Linville Falls!

Does anyone know if you can drive to the Top Shop and go on the elevator to the bridge? If so do you need a reservation to go on it to the swinging bridge! I’ve had double knee replacements and it’d be tough to do that much hiking and climbing!
You can drive all the way up. They have handicap parking and an elevator to reach the bridge. They have reservation times/tickets on their website.

I live in Boone but never knew this lil random fact. I am headed up there next week to take a photo by the sign. Also not far from G-Pa Mountain (which overlooks it) is an awesome less visited spot on the parkway called Beacon Heights. When you’re on the huge 2500 sq foot slab of granite you are looking up at the mile high swing and the south/southwest face of grandfather mountain.
