    In Jan. 2020 I broke my ribs on the left side via a motocross crash. I didn't think much of it. 2 weeks later I started to have shortness of breath. After an X-Ray at a walk in clinic showed a total white out I was in the hospital fast via ambulance. A pleural effusion was advanced and I lost half of my left lung. Do not take broken ribs lightly. The surgeon lied to me and said he only took out 10% of my lung, a cat scan showed 50% after I was discharged. Do not take broken ribs lightly. I had one liter of fluid taken out but it still needed to be removed.

    Informative, I have this problem my specialist doctor prescribed me 4 kinds of medicine, I'm taking up my medicine for 2 days now i feel better, after 7days i go back my doctor for follow up check up and to have a new xray. If there is no progress of fluid, there's no doubt my doctor will advise for confinement at the hospital and need to have a tube to my lungs. I'm praying that the medicine will help me to reduce the fluid. Coz I am afraid to go to the hospital at this pandemic. 😇🙏

      Not always..... I had a Liter of Pleural Effusion drained from my lung that had built up over 3 months--- and never once did I cough during those 3 months.... Just a really constricted feeling when breathing, shortness of breath often, and an inability to lay flat without feeling pain radiating into my shoulders

    Plural fluid results are a key part of the clinical assessment, but all results must be interpreted in the context of the patient in front of you, to allow for accurate diagnosis and management, why?

    Hi Doc, I'm from Asia. May I ask your help please? I have loculated fluid collection in segmen 10 lung based on CT Scan result, i met general doctor, instead of Lung Doctor. I have covid 19 now and its hard to see Specialist doctor due of the protocol. I'm so sad and confused due I've read my CT scan result that there is a loculated fluid collection in segmen 10 of my lung, is it because of Covid 19 or something else? I don't have GGO. My lung clear from GGO. But there is a loculated fluid in segmen 10 and i wonder what is this? Is it because of Covid? And what should i do? Whether this fluid needs surgery? My saturation Oxygen is 98 percentage. But I have heavy cough now with sputum now, i'm using levofloxacin after azithromycin didnt work to reduce my sputum cough. I know i should meet Doctor but at least if you can help to explain it would means a lot to me. Since I can't easy to meet Specialist doctor due i still have Covid. Thank you in advance

    6:35 Yes you have VAN (vein artery nerve) under each rib, but you also have NAV *ABOVE* each rib too... Which is why we're told to intubate etc straight in the middle of the intercostal space. @MedCram can you please clarify?

    • @piepie7929
      @piepie7929 5 років тому +3

      There is no (significant) Vasculature bundle above a rib. Thus you most likely puncture a nerve if you go in the middle. The right position is above the rib as he explained

    • @kevinfrancisco5016

      Then the effusion is only small/mild. The trachea will only deviate if there is already a large portion of fluid accumulates in the pleural caivity.
