That dinner scene is insane. Especially once he mentions his daughter. The mother immediately begins crying because she knows they are completely fucked.
Awesome direction.
While Alejandro is frequently silent in the movie, he initially had more lines. "In the original script, the character explained his background several times to Kate," Benicio del Toro said. "And that gave me information about who this guy was, but it felt a little stiff to have someone you just met fifteen minutes ago suddenly telling you what happened to him and who he is." Working with Denis Villeneuve, Del Toro began cutting some of his dialogue to preserve the mystery of who his character is; Villeneuve estimated they cut 90% of what Del Toro was originally intended to say by screenwriter Taylor Sheridan. Like Del Toro, Villeneuve saw power in stripping the character down to a brooding silence, stating that dialogue belongs to plays and "movies are about movement, character, and presence, and Benicio had all that."
He was basically the punisher in this movie.
So rare for an actor to argue in favour of LESS lines but it made the lines he had so impactful.
Denis Villeneuve apparently hates dialogue and only wants to shoot silent films, so, this makes a lot of sense.
That is why Alejandro is kinda different in Sicario 2 which does not have Denis Villeneuve as director, very different approach to the character
That’s what made the movie more his story than hers…..if you think about 🤔
Such a fantastic, BLEAK film. It's one of Denis' best.
And written by Taylor Sheridan
@@GDLean12i hope the crew reacts to wind river
Ohh Incendies is wayyy bleaker than this imo.
@@hazri8758 eh, dunno about that
@@hazri8758certainly one of the most gut wrenching movies I've seen
That final scene with the kids playing football, enjoying their time, only to be interrupted by the distant sound of gunfire is just VERY sad.
And then right back at it, because that's just the reality of their lives.
I can't watch that scene without getting emotional. There's just something so bleak about those people just being used to living like that.
They still give birth to kids knowing they live in such a horrible place... Great decision on the people there right
@@howardron543 I mean, people in death camps did it too. Instincts of procreation, plus religion are just that powerful. That's how you get overpopulation in places like Gаzа.
@@howardron543dumbest comment of the day....
Sicario is one of those movies, EVEN with all the general praise from critics and audiences, I STILL think it's kinda underrated. Roger Deakins not getting the Oscar for this was ridiculous, at least he got it for Blade runner 2049 which was also very deserved.
The attention to detail about foreign and domestic legal parameters is what stands out to me…. The CIA needed the fbi in order to operate in the states, they needed Texas marshals to actually handle the extradition, and used the Delta Force (the military arm of the CIA) to handle the fighting. And then on top of all that, they used an unofficial non citizen,Alejandro, to do the “illegal” stuff. That way they can throw him under the bus if they needed to. “We didn’t break the law, this disgruntled Colombian lawyer did”
Delta isn’t the e military arm of the CIA. CIA has their own ground combat teams. Delta just works with the CIA when it needs to.
This is still my favorite Denis Villeneuve film. You guys should check out Wind River too. Written by the same guy.
And directed, it's Sheridan's first full feature if I'm not mistaken.
Wind River is incredible.
YES! Wind River is equally, if not more bleak and brutally realistic. Hell or High Water along with those two are all in an unofficial ‘Border Trilogy’, written by Sheridan. HoHW is the least depressing.
Oh man, Wind River is so good!
Taylor Sheridan. Yellowstone. Tulsa King. Mayor of Kingstown. Wind River. Hell or Highwater
The entire Juarez sequence is fantastic, if you notice we start with wide sweeping helicopter shots and eventually end with tight shots in between the trucks in the convoy. The city and the life is closing around Kate and she can’t escape it. Masterful film making.
They have no idea what a dense city looks like if they think Juarez is dense.
@@w415800 No one cares.
I saw the thumbnail and said "OOOOH" 😂 This is such a great movie, and del Toro is fantastic in it. Also, watching Calvin geek out about guns and armored trucks and plate carriers makes me feel like I'm watching this movie with my dad.
Well, you can see four of their next movies on website and get excited early
Yeah I have noticed him make comments on other videos that clued me in he was knowledgeable, but this is most I have heard him kind of geek out. I’m relatively new to following them so could be canon that I was unaware of
Another great Denis Villeneuve movie is Prisoners you guys should react to it if you haven't seen it
Love that Eric got the symbolism of that blue orange silhouette shots right away. Going in to the underworld
So many people miss the "water boarding" scene.
You hear him making water boarding sounds but there is no water going down the drain...
I know, I love how you don’t see water so it’s completely left up to each viewers imagination.
The border scene never gets old. The suspense build-up in music and everything is so well done.
denis is a master at that
especially when you take into consideration that both cars were just a distraction. the real target was Kate. They wanted to kill the domesticated agency attached.
Would love it if you guys reacted to Arrival. Again, it’s by Denis Villeneuve, and it’s one of my favourite films of all time.
It's my favourite Denis movie, and I think I love all of them. Arrival is just too special.
There was a slightly different ending in the original version of the screenplay, with Alejandro choosing to spare Fausto's family and physically humiliate Kate in the ending scene by lifting up her shirt and pointing out all of the bruises he gave her in their earlier confrontation. Denis Villeneuve, Emily Blunt, and Benicio del Toro were all dissatisfied with how this played out, so they changed it to better fit how they felt the characters would act in the situations.
that sounds more like Taylor Sheridan.. his women are either weak and victims or bordering on “mannish” in their bluntness and rudeness (Beth in Yellowstone)
35:46 totally get Eric's sentiment here. Some things are so horrible there's nothing more that can be said than "not good". A deep dive into the CIA drug stuff is enough to leave one numb after going down that rabbit hole.
The bleakness of it all is so artistic but so REAL. It's sad man, what the drug trade has done to so many lives. "Time to meet God"
Honestly all of Denis Villeneuves movies I have seen so far have been amazing. Would love to see you react to more of him :D
One of the best Acton Thrillers of all time. The score is set up like a horror movie.
“just give me the girl” thanos voice was hilarious 😂
This is one of those movies that hits so real and presses down on you. I had to watch a few hours of Futurama after this just to get my brain back to normal.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
one of my favourites, everyone is so good in it, especially benicio del toro
A masterpiece of real-world intensity and a well-chosen score.
Good reaction.
My favorite from Denis. The score, performances, cinematography, etc, all so good. Benicio is what makes this movie so rewatchable for me.
I came of age during this time, and this movie paints a good picture of how Mexico looked (and still does, tbh). We didn't have state police but the Navy, we had checkpoints, curfew, and school drills. You kinda get used to it until the bodies start appearing. Good thing the movie captures that, always reminding you that the consequences are terrifying.
Denis Villeneuve is a master.
This movie is written by Taylor Sheridan he also did Hell Or Highwater which he got nominated for an Oscar & Wind River which he directed
Denis Villeneuve should’ve directed the sequel
This is simply without a doubt, one of the best movies of century so far. I could watch this movie every week and not care because it is that good. I would definitely recommend also giving the second one to watch.
Hello from Mexico! I was raised in the boarder. This movie is sadly VERY accurate, specifically the first ride.
I've thought about this a tonne of times before, but I just really appreciate how Calvin's mind works in a similar vein as mine where I'm constantly asking logistical questions and thinking about the physiological and physical realities of situations presented in shows and movies.
Like the dinner scene, I wouldn't have thought about their throats being tight trying to eat.
The tension this film creates is incredible. Great reaction!
When the team has entered the tunnel, Emily Blunt hits her head on the top of the tunnel. Director Denis Villeneuve said in an interview that he left that take in since it added realness to the mission and the film itself.
One of my favorites, so glad ya’ll reacted to it 🙏🏽
F Yeah! Waited AGES for the Wave Crew's reaction to this one! Absolutely BRUTAL! Definitely Villanueve at his best! 🔥🔥🔥
On a related note, this makes me want Blind Wave to react to "Narcos."
You were talking over the bank scene and misunderstood. The "deposits" weren't deposits. They were payments against a loan. They don't get reported to anyone no matter how large -- though to be fair, after this movie, they probably started to be.
I think this movies ending just proves how the cycle of violence will continue as especially when you don’t play by the rules, despite what everyone was telling her their way didn’t work either
Denis directing, Roger Deakins as DP, and Taylor Sheridan writing.
Lightning in a bottle film.
I cannot believe how many movies yall have available to watch on the channel. I’m so excited for this!!!!
“Who do you think we learned it from”…. School of the Americas, gift that keeps on giving…. set the tone for the last 50+ years
Emily Blunt was sick with the stomach flu (though she insists that she didn't experience diarrhea) during the border scene, so her look of nervousness was a result of her illness.
I’ve been waiting for this day
"Hey, that looks like the Punisher"
lmfaoooo
"That guys going to be soo hydrated" had me in tear😂 hahah
glad you guys did this one. one of my favorite films. everybody kills it in this one.
duuuuuude I’m so freaking happy you guys are watching this , it’s such a good film especially by denis Villanueve 🤝 also hope you guys are having a happy Friday 🙌🏻
The score was amazing! Helps bring up the tension even more! 😮
That dinner scene stuck with me the first time I saw this film
Saving this for when I get home from work. Can't wait to see you react to the border crossing scene.
As always, Roger Deakins doesn't disappoint with the cinematography.
Denis is such a powerful film maker. To end on character, so in orbit of the story, that absolutely personifies thr hesrt of the story. Brilliant.
One of my favorite feel bad movies
It’s a beautifully shot, wonderfully acted, and masterfully produced film.
One of the most STUPID things ever done in any film. Telling a CIA kill squad that you are going public about their illegal operation while in the middle of the desert on the Mexican/US border………
They had to let her live so that she could sign the papers, otherwise the whole operation does nothing for them
The movie that introduced me to Denis. Still my fav of his! Fantastic film!
Suspense perfection 👌🏻
Succession then Sicario? Content has returned to all-time highs gentlemen
I love your reactions, I love Benicio del Toro, I love Sicario, thank you!
Yo Eric thanks for the Closing time reference by semisonic 😊
Denis Villeneuve 👌☝️Great director
Favorite line is when the merc has the FBI guy on the ground with his foot on his chest and he says “Just lay back, let it happen…” 😅
written by Taylor Sheridan, he's amazing. check his other films and tv shows, please! Yellowstone, Wind River, Hell or High Water, day of the soldado, tulsa king, mayor of kingstown, 1923, you'll love them all!
Roger Deakins baby.
oh this just hyped me up, i hope they vote in the sequel in the future too
I hope one day they watch the society of the snow
Just a star studded cast it’s incredible
We gotta get them to watch all of Sheridan's work now! :D
I live in El Paso and at the time when Juarez was considered the murder capital of the world was crazy and sad. In its worst days, we would hear about the daily murders. High amounts of murders and bodies were mutilated, dismembered and just left everywhere. It was terrible seeing it on the news every day.
Just asking, will you guys react to 3 Body Problem?
Fort Bliss is an Army Base, not Air Force. I know because I was there for pre-deployment training as a 15Y/Apache Avionics.
Calvin on the light steel plates, the foiling missed. It sounds like steel but those are Kevlar plates. Very light weight, expensive, but effective.
I cannot believe you guys have not seen this already
Great movie with some amazing shots. 2nd was good too but this original one is a classic.
amazing video! if you guys havent watched prisoners yet (by denis) its insane.
Aaron and Calvin laughs at the start 😂😂😂😂😈😈😈😈
Love me some Benicio Del Toro. Also, did they not recognize Agent Sitwell from MCU and S.H.I.E.L.D.
I am surprised you've not seen this!😱
Wow Holdovers almost immediately followed up by potentially my favorite action film, I love blindeWave.
3:19 How would you clear a floor latch? Genuinely can't think of the standard method they would use. Remote bomb defusal robot to work on padlock or cutting in?
IMDB Roger Deakins please.
You couldn't even spell the name
Denis Villeneuve is a legend
More Denis Villeneuve movie reactions on the channel please! “Prisoners” is another fantastic film by him.
Man i hope they get to arrival (2016) someday ... this was great
Nice to see you guys branching out and reacting to romantic comedies now.
There is a part two of this.
One of the best films. Can't find anything close to it anymore
thanos, the collector, Spider-Punk and W'Kabi, the punisher, sitwell.. who else am i missing.
I "like" this movie a lot because the director did it so right he make it feel so authentic the feels from reality it is "scary" that feeling that you might die in any moment and terror from the cartels and such, I live in Mexico but from where I am it was from 2009-2014 I felt that fear from guns and a lot of deaths and specially because I was a kid living alone every night with fear so the feels from this film were so accurate
3:00 Aaron.... No way that's how you remember him :D lol
If you love this, try watching Incendies. Another masterpiece from Denis Villeneuve.
"that's a great shot" the cinematography of this movie is done by Roger Deakins, a man who has won Oscars for his contribution in movies. Movies such as Bladerunner 2049 and 1917.
Also, I don't believe it was gum pushed into his ear, it was a forced "wet willy" (British slang for wetting your finger and sticking it in someone's ear) only very forced to cause pain.
Eric either borrowed Rick's medical weed card, or is a cat and is signaling he's very comfortable :D
Awesome reaction. This movie is so freaking intense and disturbing.
He didn't shove gum into his ear, he lubed up his finger so he could shove it 2 knuckles deep.
You guys would love The Way of the Gun (2000)
Yes! One of my favourite movies from the 2010s! Roger Deakins is the goat!
"Guy Ritchie's The Covenant" is pretty good 💡👍
My favorite movie
Finally!
