Exactly, just because a card costs a lot of mana shouldn't mean it by itself wins the game, especially when any class can play it. This is a great aspect of MTG where even the extremely expensive eldrazi titans aren't an insta win and boardclear
Going back to what Rarran said it ties into your point. Imagine clawing your way back into a game assembling a tough board just for your opponent to say “Looking for a stand-off? Careful it’s against me!” and now suddenly you’re losing because tons of your resources are permanently gone.
Genn/Baku aren't as good because for the most part hitting the button just keeps getting worse and worse tempo wise. The only exception is Even Warlock where drawing cards is always good and you're drawing better cards. No one is clamoring to equip a 2 mana 2/2 weapon in a 2024 aggro deck.
@DonQuixoteFan what? Genn and Baku were good and meta warping in Witchwood which was also only a 4 set format (which would actually be less cards than now since they didn't have minisets). Odd/Even payoffs had nothing to do with their strength especially since those specific support cards usually didn't see play. No one was playing Odd Druid.
@retronymph what? Odd Rogue was literally one of the best tempo decks at the time. Rogue had garbage 2 drops at the time (which is why it was also the premier Keleseth deck) so all it was really giving up for the hero power upgrade was step+prep. You just capped your curve on like Vilespine and Leeroy and flooded your deck with strong 1 and 3 drops like Henchclan Thug.
Not really, considering others Decks being able to Cheat Boards on 8 Mana, you possibly need him at nine. As f2p Card he is heavily needed to get any chances to win as f2p. Andci löst a bunch of Games because i now dont have answers to different Titans or sommun a Board full of undead or anything Like that at 8 Mana... Nine Mana is Just what He is needed at. 10 Mana is Just a slap in face for f2p Casual Players.
Reno is the most unfun card in the game, even more unfun than playing against Brann. You can't build a board just because the opponent could have it. It doesn't destroy minions but removes and slows you next turn. I just fail to see anything good about the card design, the mana cost is irrelevant, you just have one more turn of fun per game against Reno decks
I want to play a minion based deck, and not a one that tries to kill your opponent as early as possible or scam the game with small minions that have been handbuffed way too much. I want to play a midrange strategy that doesn't involve me shuffling endless Plagues into the opponent's deck. I want to play Thunderbringer, the free legendary we all got. I want to play Elementals, that fight for the board in the midgame but don't have much reach. Reno and Zilliax are the biggest reason why I can't. They punish me for playing minions. They punish me for letting them interact with my board. They punish me for playing a strategy that even cares about the board past turn 6. And they do so way, way too hard. I want the board to matter in Hearthstone. Zilliax and Reno are the biggest reasons for why it doesn't.
Mirage Paly has been working for me. It’s definitely not the most OP deck and definitely feels a bit worse without seeing Spirit of the Badlands, but it does feel like a board-centric strategy that can adequately play against a good chunk of decks out there
Straight facts man... Every time a new expansion rolls around it seems like every class gets a new ridiculous way to clear the board without getting punished
Constantly running into decks that dont give a fuck about the board and just put out 8/7 divine shield rush lifesteal on turn 6 followed by constant 10+ stated divine shield 1 cost minions just isn't it. Its not interactive at all. Way too much consistency for the top decks right now with multiple tutors for important pieces.
I’d be amazed if Reno is not still mandatory in most decks. You were spending all of your mana anyways so going to ten doesn’t usually make a difference. Removing all off the enemy’s locations, deathrattles, dormsnts etc. is still just too strong.
I’ve been out of the loop for a while, doesn’t Reno only work in Highlander decks after the nerf a while ago. I don’t see Highlander being that prominent in the meta other than Warrior, but Warrior has a bunch of other things going on in it that a Reno doesn’t seem enough and it punishes the lesser Highlander decks.
@@MiudmonDice at least 90% of the games I play, I’m playing somebody running Highlander variations. There’s nothing fun about that no matter how you choose to look at it.
Hey Rarran. You should do a card rating video of the upcoming expansion together with one or two of your MTG friends. There's so many ways to make a fun video, whether you pick out a few cards or if you make predictions together/against them. Make a tierlist or do a draftpick of the new minions!
"I never thought to myself that Reno was that broken" "Often when Reno was played against me, I knew the game was already over" These two halfs of the same phrase don't agree with each other.
Reno? nerfed? who cares? mana cost doesnt change what he does, which is to completely shut out all board based decks from this meta... this game is literally unplayable for people who dont wanna sit for a half an hour at a time playing one single game of cards.......
Reno is the most poorly designed card I’ve ever seen in Hearthstone. It invalidates too many deck designs. Even at 10 mana it will still define several meta deck archetypes, which should tell you that it is poorly designed.
At the very least clear off the owners board as well. Doesn’t read as much as a standoff when you can have board full of Giants standing in front of you.
The reno nerf was totally right. Also the fact that previously it did not say your deck has to start with no duplicates boggles my mind. Since day 1 it came out I was advocating for this change. When a highlander card is run in any deck, not just in highlander deck you know the balance is shit.
If you ask me, "limit the board space to 1" should be completely removed or increased to 2 or 3 maybe. The fact that it just vanishes everything is really annoying to play against
For some reason, it always seemed to me like Reno was originally meant to empty the ENTIRE board when he's played, hence this whole *standoff against me* and the visual effect that doesn't really make thematic sense if there's a whole bunch of minions on your side already. But that'd probably just be too weak.
The new expansion does look incredibly powerful, and I think that's a sign for concern. The rotation somehow caused the power level to spike dramatically. You obviously can't speak to it very much but at the same time the next set is going to just spike the power level higher. How many nerfs are we going to need this time? I would be surprised if any expansion has had more nerfs than Whizbang. How many nerfs will this one need? It's just so out of hand.
I just played 6 games of standard. Two games were against no minion mage and the other 4 were all Reno decks. They were four different classes and 2 of those have no other Highlander payoff cards (Rainbow DK and Thief Rogue?!?). In none of those games was Reno played because every game ended prior to turn 9. I was playing Reno Priest in both of those games and each time managed to copy a Reno from my opponent. The nerf to Reno does not appear to have affected his play rate on the first day in my experience.
Perils in paradise is gonna be the most powerful set so far, I am a little frustrated that it feels a little bit like they are making the class cards without thinking that all the cards other than the tourists are in fact dual class.
I returned for the first time since Nathria and WHAT ARE THESE POWER LEVELS?! Turn 5 having a board full of 6,6+s is crazy. The things decks do are insane idk how to feelut
IMO the tourist keyword is one of the worst if not the worst they have made. 1.Class identity was really vague already, now it is non-existant. Mage with divine shield? Ramp not only for druid and so on and so forth. 2.Casual players will have no idea what it is happening. It is hard at it is to keep track of what cards to play around, now will be almost impossible. 3.It doesnt bring anything to the gameplay. It brings a lot to deck building but that is it basically. Why not give everyclass 10 more cards instead? It will be the same result. I can go on but I think you get why I am not a fan.
Reno should be nerved in a better way, it now is just a 10 mana clear whatever board, kazakus, was nerved the right way, waygate as well. Reno should be 20 mana and cost less for each 3 or four attack minion you play. And get back the if your deck has no dupliactes feature, then at least you have some way to interact with that card. Imho, that way. it becomes a more fair and balanced card. And demon seed should be reworked as well, wild is just aggro pirate rogue and demon seed, it's disgusting. I also don't understand why they gave priest a 5 mana hunter quest reward in the form of that legendary card called raza, They don't even need to work for getting such an insane buff, at least hunter had do do some real work to get it to happen. In wild it just becomes be shadowpriest, play raza win every game. I say that as a priest and warlock main. I don't get who designs these stupid cards even worse who sighs off on them? The meta in wild is just insane. My 2 cents on the meta, standard seems ok-ish.
I feel like they also nerfed Reno because they just changed how Highlander works. Can’t you not interact with Highlander activation anymore? So now he’s bumped up even further to make it harder for it to be an issue.
Reno is horribly designed, the fact you need to play speed aggro vs any Reno deck or just pray to God they never draw it or zilliax is miserable. Warrior single handedly seems to have draw, armor and clears every single turn and actively punishes mid range or anything that can't lethal by turn 8. The amount of board clears and armor without even HPing is insane.
I hate the current meta. Maybe hate is just simplistic way of me putting it. The Cards in rotation at the moment, I just despise them. And now Gen and Bakku are back. So now, Im just sitting on the sidelines for this year.
Reno removes minions, deathrattles, reborn, dormant, locations, anything on the board. I hate that it doesnt just wipe a board, it removes the minions as if they were never on the board. Can’t resurrect any, then your locked next turn to play 1 minion which is too powerful for control decks, getting basically 2 stall turns in a row, on 1 card. I both play reno and have reno played against, its a dumb tilting card lol
I get that the game should be balanced around casual players but holy shit do people overvalue Renos battlecry. The compensation is that your opponent has to play an objectively worse deck. It was only unfair if they topdeck it on curve (thus not having it as a dead card before that turn), or if the opponent failed to take any meaningful advantage of the singelton drawback for most of the game. I never even crafted the card. Control decks not running it are generally better. Now that you can’t just draw your whole deck and play Reno there is little reason to sacrifice half your deck to play one board clear.
Perhaps the reason why Genn and Baku seem less problematic now than they did back in Witchwood is the power level surrounding them. Because the game was weaker back then, the power boost from enhancing your hero power was stronger by comparison.
The problem with Reno is it’s just so unfun to play against and in wild it shuts down so many different types of decks. One single card should not have the power to delete archetypes no matter HOW much it costs.
Reno is still playable at 10 mana, There are so many instances of you are not allowed a comeback from Reno until a whole turn later this allowed the other player pretty much two turns and getting a strong hero power
Reno wasnt just fine at nine, against mist decks you would need at least 2 Renos at 8 and nine mana to get any chance against those decks todays - or against things like those priest lokalities..
this is the worst patch i might have ever played, druid is the only deck playable at high legend yet they decide to nerf every deck that had a chance against it
Reno is a mistake, much like several cards since Witchwood. It's a card from two expansions ago and he is being nerfed now. These nerfs are the same thing as always: Sweeping the dirt under the carpet and pretending that the whole house is not filled with trash.
The fact that the 8-mana Zilliax basically guarantees a 16HP heal is still bonkers to me. Hands down one of the best minions ever printed and one of the best control tools every printed. Oh, also, it has poison for some reason.
Something I noticed from Whizbang card roster that the blizzard really isn't really designing the game anymore for control gameplay in some while. And the nerfs that have been going on (or lack thereof) heavily reinforce that image. Anyway, think I am done as the PiP looks like its going to control the trend with aggro city and nerfs to control strategies even if they are not even showing up in t1 and barely in t2.
I hope Paladin gets new variety in meta, I'm so tired of how boring it is to fight handbuff paladin, it's the exact same thing that sucks to lose to when they manage to draw all the buff minions they need
I know reno is a sentiment outlier but its not broken. I think because the next expansion focuses on locations so much they dont want people to ignore all the new locs for fear that reno will poof them
It's actually great seeing you finally get the recognition by Blizz you genuinely deserve - I mean, you're keeping the non-bg part of this game alive almost singlehandedly lmao.
If I were to learn a massive pro software stack from scratch, I would not choose to tie myself to Adobe with its subscription model and anti-consumer practices.
Reno at 10 just delays the inevitable if a slow reno deck survives to turn 9 they'll almost always survive to turn 10 they just have so many board wipe options this is coming from a reno priest/reno warrior enjoyer 😂
I think the 1 mana nerf matters for every Reno deck besides Control Warrior. It has insane board control and armor gain, which deserves more nerfs besides Reno and Unkilliax.
So you like the unkilliax nerf because it helps one of the most consistent and powerful ladder climbing decks in the game? Coolcoolcool. And, if we're just nerfing based on feels, Boomboss and Puppet theater should be nerfed into the ground. Those feel so much worse than Reno.
They did this solely for fragro (can't say the f word on ziontube) players... like that reno nerf does nothing to druid at all just everyone else using it as a clear
My most hated card ever is Ziliax. Reno felt always strong and sometimes he won the game on the spot yes. However i felt Ziliax was way more unfair, i literally lost yesterday 7 games in a row to ziliax because i didnt draw the instantly needed hard counter. Not only is the tempo swing so huge, but it also feels so horrible to have nothing to do against. I Played since HS Release. Kill zilliax. And i doubt a one mana nerf is enough. I dont wanna see Zilliax in any of my games. For the love of god, kill this card entirely. Thank you for Reading, enjoy your day
Thing with Reno is that it just feels SO BAD to get played against you, and is a win button against board based decks
Exactly, just because a card costs a lot of mana shouldn't mean it by itself wins the game, especially when any class can play it. This is a great aspect of MTG where even the extremely expensive eldrazi titans aren't an insta win and boardclear

I'd be down with more Genn and Baku, my even DH has been doing numbers. very bad numbers
My main issue with Reno is that losing that next turn to build your board back up is often enough to decide the game if you are a minion focused deck.
Genn/Baku aren't as good because for the most part hitting the button just keeps getting worse and worse tempo wise.

@rarran don't respond to this message if Blizzard are adding Monk soon. Kthnxbai
Lets fucking GOOO just packed Reno so now he is getting dusted the fuck up!!
Reno is balanced
Hey Rarry, do you find premiere pro a good editing software? Or would you jump ship to a different software if you had the opportunity to learn it?
I love premiere
@@MoreRarran thanks for the reply! Glad it works well for you. Hope you don't run into many crashes
If I were to learn a massive pro software stack from scratch, I would not choose to tie myself to Adobe with its subscription model and anti-consumer practices.
i would put it on 11 mana so noone can play it but can put it into odd decks
Oddyn Warrior is eating good with unkilliax
congrats on your top 800 legend, and even warlock looks pretty good!
Yeah give me Genn and Baku FOREVER!
@@synchronium24 reno warrior is already way weaker than handbuff and flood paladin, it doesn't really need nerfs
bismilah im higher rank than rarran
small indie company mic quality
Pirate rogue is going to be insane.
Nerf it to 11 mana? Lul
It seems absurd that Velarok and Sandbox Scoundrel are not nerfed. Most top 100 legend players are playing Excavate Rogue for a reason.
They could make Reno 11 mana and it would still be too strong. The effect needs a complete change.
Thank you for Reading, enjoy your day
Nerfing because crybabies cry is crazy
