I started my T206 collecting a few months back..I prefer the look of the pre war in SGC. The black gasket makes the color pop much better. I will do PSA in 50s and newer...cheers.
Hello, New sub after finding this vid! Not sure if you'll see this, as I just ran across this and it's 3 years old. I'm also a T206 collector and love any T206 content. Interesting that you're collecting Toledo. Did you know the Harry Hinchman card you showed is a picture of Bud Sharpe? Ironically, the Sharpe T206 is actually a picture of Bill Hinchman, Harrys brother. Also, there is a Shappe version of the Sharpe card. Quite the debacle, yet not considered an "error" by T206 collectors. Keep up the T206 content and enjoy your day.
That’s amazing - thanks for the info! So much to learn about this set and so much fun collecting it. Appreciate you dropping a line and this tidbit. And thanks for finding me and subscribing. Cheers!
Excellent video and nice showing them side by side. I do the same with my cards when I’m looking at them and I’m with the group that thinks the SGC is much better with vintage and especially t205/t206 cards. Good call about the white borders. I’m about to show a Ryne Sandburg second year donruss they looks stunning in SGC slab. Thanks for sharing
David M - nice. Can’t wait to check out the sandberg and your other videos. I wanted to do this kind of comparison as a total rookie so it was fun to do the side by side. Thanks for watching!
I agree the SGC makes a better presentation with the black border. That being said, I cannot wrap my mind around why they created that much extra space for the card to move around in. I do not collect that vintage of card, so perhaps others can answer if there are some groups of cards out there that are slightly taller than T206 cards that SGC was trying to create a one-size fits all holder to accommodate?
good question - I'm not really sure. Some of the dudes on here know better than me but you'd think authentic t206's would all fit pretty snugly in that mat. Form what some of them say this might be the exception. And to be honest I haven't noticed that much give on my others. Thanks for watching Harris!
I've decided to only submit at this point to SGC and not renew my PSA subscription that ends in Dec. I'm still waiting for my bulk order that I submitted in Dec 2019. Also i think their new bulk order that is divided into different years is just ridiculous. I usually have in the past submit cards from the 60s, 50s. 80s, 90s, 2000s, in one bulk order and now this is no longer possible. So for the time being SGC only. I really dislike BGS for various reasons including price of submissions and return time. I had to wait 13 months for their non guaranteed service.
I'm with you 100%. I just submitted my 2nd order to SGC. PSA submission never appealed to me because of 1) subscription cost and 2) those long turnaround times. I have lots of PSA slabs, of course, but happy to submit to SGC. Cardboard Chronicles' channel had an interview with Pete from SGC and it was very interesting. Thanks for dropping by!
Dont mind my name, I'm an NBA fan but I have over 150 raw t206s. Always preferred raw over graded because you actually get to see the card up close and in detail better. I definitely agree with you, buy the card NOT the grade!
Great vid. The topic has been on my mind for some time now. I too collect T206 (right now that's all I collect). Personally, I prefer the SGC for the appearance (especially the new slab) and submission price. I agree that the cards "pop"/look better in the SGC slab. However, I wish the SGC slab was the same size/weight/thickness as the PSA. I like the way PSA slab feels in the hand. Plus because they are slightly thinner than the SGC slab you can fit a bit more in storage boxes I guess. I usually look for and buy SGC graded cards but will not pass up a good deal on a PSA card. What I was really surprised with was the gap space you had in your SGC card. It made me look at several of my SGC cards and I didn't find one that had such gap space as yours did. Not sure what happened there. Funny thing though...as I was looking at my SGC slabbed cards I started to feel that I would prefer that the corners gaps/spaces were not so pronounced and more subtle like the PSA slab. Looking forward to future T206 vids...oh yeah...I subbed!
Nice - thanks for the note! And yes, I can't believe how much that one is sliding around, so that's annoying, but I'll live :) But totally agree on the pronounced space. PSA is pretty great, too. Thanks for watching and the sub! Also - will have a video soon with two new big (for me) T206 pickups.
Absolutely with you. I find myself only searching for SGC for t206 these days. More affordable and they look great in those slabs. Thanks for checking this out. I have more SGC/ t206 videos coming. Cheers.
Thanks, Mike - appreciate it. Excited to get my first SGC order back. And thanks for the sub, too! I’ve been watching your videos and subscribed to you for a while so that was cool to see 😎
SGC has lost their way with vintage cards. I graded three t206s all the grading was horribly inconsistent. I had a card with a clean back, nice centering and nice corners that only got a 3 and another that’s worse with the same grade. I’ll likely cross them over.
In my opinion for the pre war stuff SGC is by far the better company. I feel their grade is more accurate than PSA with the old stuff. Plus the black insert makes them look nice and you can't pass up the cheaper price of SGC either.
My set is SGC only. I strongly prefer them for many reasons that you stated. I know that your big complaint with the SGC holder was the cards moving around and that is a legitimate issue with that particular card but having that much space is not typical for sgc t206 and I have seen plenty of PSA slabs with the same issue. I believe they may have cut the gasket that way for the card because of the Diamond cut but I am not sure
Cool man - thanks - and hoping that doesn’t continue. Don’t think the space deal will and haven’t really noticed it on my others. Have a SGC submission coming soon, too. Thanks for watching and the sub - been subscribed and watching your stuff for a while 👍🏻
I'm all about "Buying the card not the grade". PSA is too inconsistent with older cards. You could take 4 examples of your card in a PSA 4 and they will all be significantly different. The SGC cases look really nice but i'm not a fan of the bulkier case. SGC is in prime position to steal a big chunk of the vintage market right now with all the problems PSA has had. Just my thoughts. Take care man.
Absolutely - thanks for the thoughts, Clint. I think that's the right philosophy. I have tried to collect 4's (is PSA and SGC) but swear I sometimes see a better eye appeal card in a lower grade. I don't think the bulkier SGC case is for everyone, you're right. And I did notice the wider SGC case doesn't fit as well in my graded box - a bit tight! Thanks again, dude - be safe over there!
SGC used the wrong sized insert / gasket on that card. Shouldn’t be nearly that much room at the top. Look at other SGC cards on eBay, etc. I think that one may have been intended for a larger E / Candy card. Both SGC and PSA do this sometimes; if they run out of the proper sized slab they will substitute. Nice cards!
John Collins thanks very much, John - for watching and the info on the insert. I put it up against my others in SGC slabs and it’s higher in the slab, too. I wonder if I can email them and see if they’d reholder it. Thanks again!
I think you’re onto something. I really dig SGC slabs but at the new price point it seems hard to not go with PSA if you ever might sell. Thanks for weighing in.
Cards in PSA holders seem to command about 25% more money, hold the card more tightly, are the easiest to shop for due to higher populations, they also seem to be more strict with their grading, and more consistent. I like the way the SGC holders look, but that's not enough to convert me. Just wanted to add one more thing to consider. In my opinion, the way that SGC holders are designed, it gives your cards the illusion of more rounded corners. Which is not a good thing. It's just my opinion though.
All great points - thanks for watching and weighing in. Agree on maybe slightly more value (but I’m not too keen on selling), holding the card tight, etc. Hadn't thought of the rounded corner thing and you're totally right! I'm still going to be buying PSA cards, I'm sure, too. Just leaning SGC for the vintage stuff. Thanks again!
25% more is a stretch in my opinion especially on T206 where values are very comparable and I believe the gap is closing on modern as well. I have differing opinions on their grading consistency as well as their holders doing a better job, as just today I got a t200 that moved so much in the PSA holder that the corner got stuck in the gasket under the plastic. As you said though, definitely all about person preferences and opinions.
I started my T206 collecting a few months back..I prefer the look of the pre war in SGC. The black gasket makes the color pop much better. I will do PSA in 50s and newer...cheers.
Totally agree - that's how my collection is heading - thanks for watching!
Canadian Cards exactly what I plan to do

SGC >>>
When I did my T206 player back run, I only looked for SGC graded copies. It's just what I like and I'm a collector, not a flipvestor.
Absolutely with you. I find myself only searching for SGC for t206 these days. More affordable and they look great in those slabs. Thanks for checking this out. I have more SGC/ t206 videos coming. Cheers.
I trust SGC a bit more with vintage and prewar as well. Great video!

Right? Sort of a win all around. And turn-around times, from what I hear, are quicker with SGC. Thanks, man!
@@GreenvilleGear yeah they are. Right now it seems like most are getting back in 3 weeks.
@@brandonstebbins7242 Nice! Getting ready to send in my first ever submission - I'll definitely put it on the channel. Take care!
PSA's crumpled baggies are beyond ugly. SGC is infinitely more attractive.
Big time. Hate those baggies inside the holder - not great and I agree! Thanks for watching and commenting!
PSA must agree with you, because they just bought out SGC.
Hah! Good point. What a story, by the way. Will be interesting to see. Take care.

Someone at SGC put in the wrong insert. All my T206’s are SGC and they are all a snug fit.
Totally. They ended up fixing it for me, once again they had great customer service. Thanks for saying hi.

SGC downfall will be two fold- prices as high as psa without equal return and grading time. With CSG coming out, psa and sgc will get less business.
I think you’re onto something. I really dig SGC slabs but at the new price point it seems hard to not go with PSA if you ever might sell. Thanks for weighing in.

Please show me exactly where a PSA card outsells an SGC card by 25%. Then I will find anything you said somewhat credible.
