I know these graders got kids who collect cards. What stops them from giving family and friends PSA10’s? Only thing I hate about the grading is there really isn’t any accountability to the whole grading system.

Great video! Don't even get me started on BGS man, i'm one of the guys that had their cards sit at Beckett for over a year, their prices are ridiculous although some cards do look nice in their cases. Beckett is also pretty arrogant as well and i think SGC will overtake them soon. I'll still grade with PSA due to overall resale value but SGC will be getting a lot of my business from now on. I pretty much agreed with you on everything here.

Thank you sir! Appreciate the kind words. My goal was for this to be as objective as possible but provide as much information for the collector to make an educated decision about grading in 2020!
The market is prime for a new grading company to open. If these current companies don’t expand capacity we have a bottleneck across the board. SGC that I’ve crossed to PSA have always crossed with an equal grade. Good video overall bud. I do wish SGC would consider a new modern case maybe clear for modern era cards. PSA needs to expand their grading services. Turn rates are just crazy!
It definitely is. I would love to see a company incorporate more technology including a digital measurement of the sizes to ensure that there wasn't any trimming. It seems absolutely feasible to do in todays age.

Thanks for this video. Overall I love SGC graded cards. The black border looks premium, different from the rest. Label is ok. Case so far good. 2nd PSA case is always sturdy, label is solid. Last BGS label is premium black, gold, silver. Very detailed but sometimes has a kinked on corner when being installed. Case is nice and thick but cracks easily. Phantom cracks shows up. It's great to have a 3rd option for sellers to get their cards graded.
Great Video! very well presented. Extremely important information for the new collector. It does have a bit of a "modern card" bias though. In my opinion when it comes to vintage/junk wax era cards, SGC is far superior to BGS in every way. Another pro SGC point is that they seem to be the least impacted by all the recent fraud/trimming scandal BS thats been going on. They also have the absolute best customer service. Obviously, I have an SGC bias, but I do collect and submit to all three.
It definitely has a modern bias. I'll be the first to admit that I know very little, if anything relevant at all when it comes to vintage. It's not my forte, has a steep learning curve, so I've stayed away up to this point.
Another gear video for us rookies. I do agree I like psa grading. I like the 10 better than the 9.5. I will be going with them when things open up again.
I prefer BGS even though lately price and turnaround time suck. My reasoning is PSA submission seems complicated. I tried SGC and somewhat like it but I'm sticking with Beckett. Why Beckett? Because I like the sub grades, easy of submission and the potential for a 10 Pristine or Black Label. This is just my opinion. Overall this was a great video with excellent insight on the highly debated subject. Thx Sir.

Bgs is a good option if you feel you have a perfect card because a Beckett 10 obviously outsells a psa 10 but it seems Beckett is protecting that 10 and they are hard to come by

Interesting, thought provoking take. Not very familiar with SGC, but have heard they may have the strictest grading standards. As far as PSA and BGS are concerned, there are plenty of examples with both companies where their subjective grading opinion on a card is erroneous. It's not only the company, but the individual grader(s) at the company that is grading your card that matter. Grading is just an opinion. Don't get the opinion you want, resubmit, or send it to another company for a second opinion. The only data point that should matter is the condition of the card. Don't like BGS 9.5, cross it over to PSA or SGC. If collectors and investors want to discount the cost of regrading, I can see a small price discrepancy for the same level of card. But why would anybody spend an extra ~$600 for the same or similar conditioned Mahomes? As I commented on Philmington's SGC video, I enjoy the BGS and SGC arbitrage opportunities, but for the good of the hobby, I hope the price levels of same conditioned cards from different grading companies eventually even out.
Once the market shows a clear preference in resale prices for a grader, things can stack up against the other graders pretty decidedly. That's what happened with CGC in comics, depsite their long turnaround backlog. It'll be interesting to see what CGC can do, entering into sports card grading. Personally I despise them because they love inserting themselves into markets with gimmicks, manufacturing collectables out of unremarkable items with "limited edition" labels, etc..
Yeah I wish I had known about their announcement before making this video as I would have liked to do a segment on it! It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.
Also I think resell values are changing due to new investors in the market. People like Gary V and others push the PSA brand so people looking to invest/flip are putting their cash into PSA, hence the price gap now in market.

I see different prices on Ebay and other sites. Thanks for any help and Thank you for this video by far the best grading video out there.
Thanks Kevin and appreciate the question. I will generally submit the value as the raw card value. Given that you don't know how the card will grade (usually), I enter all of my valuationas as the raw card value. If you are confident that the card will grade gem mint and the valuation difference between the raw card value and gem mint is large, I will pick a value somewhere in between. Ultimately the valuation mainly impacts the insurance amount that PSA will charge you once the order is complete, so it's in your benefit to have the value be high in the event that the order is lost or damaged.
SGC has way better resale value on Vintage Cards like I’m into that 19th century old judge cigarette card collection they look amazing in this SGC holder because they’re like a tan color card with black print so the black holder of SGC really makes it pop
Just found your channel. Great breakdown of the 3 grading companies. Should be interesting to see if SGC takes advantage of the momentum they have gained and can keep it going.
I have a good chunk of my cards graded by the big three: SGC, Beckett and PSA. I'm primarily a vintage sports cards collector. I've taken my vintage Beckett (BVG, NOT that BCCG crap! But BVG) cards into a few different card shops and I've had the clerk tell me that BVG isn't as respected as Beckett (the Beckett for the newer post 1980 cards). I then have to explain to these clerks that the 1960s and 1970s BVG graded cards I'm showing him never had the opportunity to get graded by the "new" Beckett b/c they're older than 1981. It's beyond belief that I've had three clerks at 3 different shops over the last five years make this mistake: essentially thinking that old pre 1981 cards can get graded by "new" Beckett when they can only get graded by BVG! It drives me bonkers!
From your personal experience of grading cards, as well as other card graders in the industry, how long does it take to determine the authentication and condition of the card? What’s that process like?

Hi there! I have a question. You know how a lot of panini cards have a little bend/curve to them? Like they’re not completely flat a lot of the times? Will that effect the grade of a card? I see many cards I like that could be 10’s by my eye, but the only issue I’m running into is that bend. I appreciate anything!
That from my experience does not affect the card. Some cards and sets have a natural bow to them based on their production. It will flatten out once sonically sealed. So long as there are no surface wrinkles or creases, you should be good to go.
I wish sgc had better resale value they are just not a option for flippers/resale value. Psa and bgs is the only way to go if you plan on reselling I hope sgc can close the gap on the big 2
Yup, there are very few options where SGC makes sense for flipping. There main benefit is you might be first to market but that doesn't have mass appeal. I hope it changes.
@@TylerShort I have made some sales this weekend all sgc modern cards & got asking and for example Luis Roberts 1st Chrome $100 x2. Acuna Complete series bat up $120 & $100 on the other. I sold earlier testing a 2020 topps Bo SGC 10 for asking $40 got $30 and same for a Yordan. Wasn't sure on pricing at the time because they were some of the 1rst offered. ROI was pretty good. I think if they want the card grade & slab with a good company SGC makes sense. Or either wait till 2021 for your 202) rc cards from the other 2. 🤷♂️ I hope this helps ya or anyone else curious.
What are your or anyone’s thoughts on submitting to any of the 3 grading companies with a bulk of say 5-10 of the same cards to be graded... will this make them grade your cards any harsher since they are all the same in a row being looked at and/or scrutinized? Just curious of everyone’s opinion on the matter...
I will do this a lot, but my strategy that I've outlined in previous videos is to arrange the cards to be presented to the grader in order of worst to best. Psychologically, a grader might think after seeing what they perceive to be a mint 9 card...if they see something better than a mint 9 card, it will bode well for the rest of the cards in the order. Not sure if I'm explaining it that well but I do this in every order
I've never liked BGS personally. I mean look at the Bowman Chrome Trout "pristine" 10 at 6:00 in. The upper left corner is showing white...on a "pristine" card. That's why I actually think SGC should be ahead of the pack. I find their grading the toughest and most consistent.
If SGC and Beckett graded cards sell for way less, why don’t people buy up the beckett and SGC grade day cards, crack them open, get it graded from PSA and flip them?
(This is before watching) I think bgs will take the lead because of the fact that it gives you the sub grades and the holders are better and more protected.
solid break down. Mostly agree. I sub PSA first, crack PSA 9s and sub BGS 2nd for 9.5s Working well. Where did you get the grading video. Very cool to see!
I don't collect much modern and I have never submitted a card for grading but, I've been collecting investment graded Vintage HOF'ers (centered) for the past 10 years.... the eye appeal on the Pre WW1 stuff must be there because of the vast number of lower grades. I am tough on grading and very picky. MY Conclusions: SGC from 1800's thru 1915...that's where they initially developed their reputation. The old label SGC is preferred....I don't like SGC's new label. The grade letter is too big. But, I'll get a PSA if no SGC's available. SGC/PSA from 1916 thru 1941 (Doesn't matter) 1947 thru today it's PSA. The BGS case is too thick and that blurs the card somewhat. I don't buy much modern.....maybe someday, though. from the 1800's thru 1941 SGC and PSA prices are very competitive. From 1947 to modern...the PSA holder is the better investment over time. SGC will have a difficult time in PSA territory. What do you think?
Very fair video, BGS no longer has a guaranteed turn around for a few week prior to the virus. I know from 1st hand experience on a 2019 Wander Franco Bowman Chrome 1st Auto..
@@DropDatBass none have been more than 21 working days once they receive the submission and it's returned. I have done 1 day turn around and it was successful. 2020 Topps Series 1 Yonder RC/Cup Clear card 8/10 SGC 10 GM
Yup, just announced. I'm hopefully that PSA and BGS stance (no bulk sub for PSA and no guarantee for BGS) are temporary, but with the attention the market is getting, this may a longer term thing :(
I would love to agree, if SGC would at least acknowledge receipt of my submission. It was picked up June 12, and since then?....crickets! Their facebook page has been stagnant since june 3. My Latest PSA order is now being graded, passing up my SGC order. SGC cashed my check, and has my cards. I know you dont work for them, but have you had better luck with them lately?
Is there anyone that’s willing to help me figure out information about my rookie Lebrun James cards it would be greatly appreciated i want to find out what is it’s worth grade etc
I have a 2002 Jamie Mcmurray graded 98 they mispelled his name and car # if the individual card has an error of a mispelled name I would consider it worth more than if the card was mispelled by the card company who made/printed the card. I guess I'm saying this since I had to pay for them to grade and label the card in a hard plastic protection case. Anyways what's a brother to do. 😆😆😆
I finally got my SGC order back today after 102 business days. It’s was terrible. I will never use them again. Besides the ridiculous grades, 3 cards weren’t fit into the encapsulation! They moved around every where. Never again!
so SGC 10 is basically selling it raw but letting buyers know card is in mint condition. honestly, if thats the purpose id rather go with GMA just to get it graded. SGC does have nice cases though, but the resale value is just not there.... ill pass.
Unfortunatley you can't compare a 10 to a 10 across grading companies. The PSA 10 (Gem Mint) is equivalent to a BGS 9.5 (Gem Mint), which is now equivalent to an SGC 10 (Gem Mint). There is not Pristine grade for PSA. It is one of BGS and SGCs differentiations IMO
If they get their TA under control, I might start sending some orders to them again for sure. Hobby needs all of the grading companies to be competitive and healthy
Beckett 10's are more valuable then PSA 10's by far and if you get a Black Label its worth over 10x's a PSA 10. I find PSA lets a lot of chipping slide and corner damage and off centering slide. I have submitted thousands to each and Beckett has a far better case with more protection and charge way less then PSA. PSA will charge you 5,000 to grade a single card, lol, pathetic. I see PSA10's that would not even grade a BGS9 on ebay. I sent 150 PSA 10's to Beckett for an upgrade, and 3 came back as BGS10's, the rest did not, and I pre screened my PSA 10's. By far Beckett is the best grader.
That's not true. PSA 10 = gem mint. BGS 9.5 = gem mint. BGS 10 = Pristine. PSA does not have an equivalent grade for a BGS 10 pristine, hence the gold standard comparison being and always has been PSA 10 vs BGS 9.5
Tyler whats crazy is you recorded this video only less than 8 months ago and look how you valued the MJ 1986 Fleer at only $48k and now they are selling for over $110k.
Beckett 30 day with sub grade 30 bucks and psa 75 day with no sub grade is 20 bucks. I would say Beckett should get some credit for the turnaround time for the sub grades
I am going to send to sgc as an experiment. Plus say if you were to send some Yordan rookies to PSA they probably wouldn’t be back till the playoffs.
SGC has a thick case. I don't know the maximum size, but I do have about 20 thick cases in my PC.
Aww, definitely good to know. I'll have to show an update. One day I'm going to submit to them just to try it out

I hope that they do. Early reports are that they are starting to get backed up though, so we will see
I have a good chunk of my cards graded by the big three: SGC, Beckett and PSA.
Awesome video! Really thinking about sending some 2020 series 1 rookies over to sgc soon
Very good suggestion. Hoping you get some gold label 10s!
From your personal experience of grading cards, as well as other card graders in the industry, how long does it take to determine the authentication and condition of the card? What’s that process like?
Shalom- First time seller of sports cards and I learned so much from your detail video on psa, bgs, and sgc. Thank you for your time on doing this going to watch somemore of your videos. Blessings to you, you just gained a subscriber!Blessings - Family_Legasee
thanks for this in-depth breakdown
Thanks man, much appreciated
What to do if the slab is scratch or damage? My card slab got chipped on the side when I received it, probably because of shipping.
Thanks for all of the info. Tell us how you really feel ;)
Haha, definitely!
If SGC and Beckett graded cards sell for way less, why don’t people buy up the beckett and SGC grade day cards, crack them open, get it graded from PSA and flip them?
Many people do exactly just that! There are no guarantees of a crossover but the crack and submit game is alive and well
(This is before watching) I think bgs will take the lead because of the fact that it gives you the sub grades and the holders are better and more protected.
Their cases for sure offer the best protection! It all depends on which factor you value the most!
I find the sub grading to be too tedious.
I'm assuming the sgc pries will go up due to psa and bgs being so backed up, right?
Definitely, they've been slowly climbing up as more people are getting cards graded by them. But then again, everything is up!
solid break down. Mostly agree. I sub PSA first, crack PSA 9s and sub BGS 2nd for 9.5s Working well.
Where did you get the grading video. Very cool to see!
So do you send your PSA 9's into BGS with the PSA 9 slab? Guess the card would have to be highly valuable to make it worth the cost of doing both
I did a combination of filming my own cards in addition to the videos that PSA has on youtube. SGC I believe was from their website
Really good video! Thanks man!
Thank you sir!
What does a PSA 10 equal for SGC grading?
SGC is the most consistent grading company overall
I prefer HGS. Beautiful job with sub grades.
How long did it take for your card to be returned to you?
SGC is my fav..top shelf
very well put together thanks
Thanks you, much appreciated
Great video, thanks!
Thank you sir!
Outstanding videos!!!!
Thank you sir!
GMA best prices and turnaround times. I submit a lot of cards to the and they do not pass out all 10’s. I have used them all best bang for your money
I haven't ventured off to GMA as of yet.
Do you think at some point psa’s prices will go down
Unfortunately I don't think that will ever happen again :( Grading has officially caught on as mainstream in the hobby.
1. SGC
2. Beckett
3. GMA
4. PSA
Sgc cases blow psa cases out of the water. Bgs is a close second. Those blk slabs make almost every card pop. For best resale value psa is the best.
so SGC 10 is basically selling it raw but letting buyers know card is in mint condition.
honestly, if thats the purpose id rather go with GMA just to get it graded.
SGC does have nice cases though, but the resale value is just not there.... ill pass.
Anyone heard of EMC GRADING?
I don’t think you considered that a psa 9 could’ve scored a 9.5 with Beckett. In that scenario, you lose money.
Definitely true, there are times where it is better to send to BGS to get a Min Sub BGS 9.5. Card specific though for sure.
but wouldn't you compare a 10 to a 10, not a Beckett gold 10 (not black label)
Unfortunatley you can't compare a 10 to a 10 across grading companies. The PSA 10 (Gem Mint) is equivalent to a BGS 9.5 (Gem Mint), which is now equivalent to an SGC 10 (Gem Mint). There is not Pristine grade for PSA. It is one of BGS and SGCs differentiations IMO
HGA 2021
good review... :-)
Thank you Stevie!
I would say right now SGC is number one bgs number two and PSA number three. PSA slabs are awful looking and their labels look like Avery labels
Beckett da best
If they get their TA under control, I might start sending some orders to them again for sure. Hobby needs all of the grading companies to be competitive and healthy
Tyler are u really short?
Haha...sorry to disappoint. I'm around 6'1 whatever that classifies as
Tyler Short .. I’m the same height & it’s considered above avg but, I’m sure u knew that...I think the avg male is 5’9”
Lol you could have 3 kids running around Lolololol !
Lol, I guess we shall see in 12 months haha!
Best? They all take 6 months or more
When comparing resale value you should compare a PSA 10 to a BGS 10 not a 9.5.
LMAO PSA is in the same boat as far as turn around times..
Did you see when this video was released?
Lol i just noticed that sorry.
Stay away from SGC. They have no email or phone to contact them. Visit theyre site and see for yourself. Theyre turnaround times is a lie
