  • In this video I change the Brake Junction block on the green Volvo 242 2,1.
This is not the end of the brake overhaul as it turns out..
Sometimes fixing one thing just points to the next weak link in the system... This is one of those instances.

Ill continue on it as long as I got it in my garage.. and remember, I also have a Estate 240! That will most likely need some attention soon also! :)

when the failure warning device is what causes the failure, seems like someone should be getting a refund.

This valve is mounted different on newer models of the 240.
Mounted on the frame like that and leaking makes the metal rust works it way

I’m chasing an issue with my 240. The car misfires and was idling high. It no longer idles high. I replaced the oil trap and the hoses. Checked for ant vacuum leaks. Replaced a ton of hoses. Anyways it no longer idles high. But the car surges. It idles at 1000rpm. I’m thinking it’s the brake booster? I heard it can cause idling issues and the brake pedal takes longer than expected to come back up

Hmm... you could try to unplug the booster line and plug it... If it fixes the surges then the booster is a prime suspect. :)

Tried bleeding my brakes and only the front left upper bleed screws actually bleeds..all the others front inner/out or rear have no fluid coming out of the screws😬 what do you think could be the issue?

Hmmm sounds wierd.. But sounds like a brake overhaul is due....

Flare nut spanners are nice for getting the lines off for a job like this. But they don't stop stuck line from twisting and then remaking a replacement line.

Hei!

@@SeasideGarage thanks, I've done basically the same as you... New calipers and flexible lines fitted. Job done I thought, nope. Afrer the first drive I noticed there was some fluid on the front left a arm. Although mine isn't leaking as much as yours was.

@@peterjames808 Yea. it seems to be a common issue :) good luck!

I don't think the brake spider is a common issue but those anti-squeal shims you mentioned in a previous video do make the brakes soft and are best left in the bin.

Great video! How dit you get off the switch and plunjer of the old box to reset the system?

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage  3 роки тому +1

Thanks! I did not take the old plunger out to reset it... it was actually pressed out by the leaking seals..
But on the new box i did take it out to reset... you can just wind it out like a regular bolt.. :)

@@SeasideGarage I know this is two years ago now haha, but do you have further details on how you did this reset thing to set the piston? I had to replace mine looked just as dirty as yours, but I still have spongy brakes and the brake light on

I just ordered one off a guy on turbobricks which eliminates the piston and relocated the sensor to the brake fluid cap. Hopefully gets rid of the issue and $78.
