Here is a diagnosis and replacement of a lid lock assembly on a whirlpool top goal washing
    machine.
This will show you how to test the lock in diagnostics and test the switch itself. Although will not test the whole lock just from start to when I found the problem.

    Thanks for watching.

Thanks for showing that checking continuity between the White and Blue wires of the lid lock with the lid closed, determines if the lid lock itself Is / or Is Not the cause of a Lid Lock Error.
This Bearded Appliance Repair video is the only one I've come across which shows how to troubleshoot and narrow down the 3 causes of lid lock errors.

Hello. The video was very helpful. I have replaced my actuator, but was still having problems. The washer either takes forever to advance, or doesn't go into spin mode.
When I started a load now, it says sensing, and then the lid lock light keeps blinking 2-3 minutes so far. It finally stopped blinking and clicked. Now just the sensing light is on. I just changed out the lid switch with one that had 116 ohms.
Do you have any ideas why this takes so long?

Blue White reads 2.0 is that okay? Yellow White 0 which is good. Thanks...... got lid lock code, too full code, slow drain code and balance code(rods, rebound test all look okay)
. Fills washes no drain at beginning of problem,. Got it to manually spin fast once, Now it won't light up for 3 right 1 left, 1 right. Computer board bad?

The lid lock would blink when I started the washer. So I replaced it but it’s still blinking and won’t go any further in the cycle just keeps blinking. Could it also be the shift actuator

Yellow is solonoid? I thought blue went to the solonoid on one I tested a few days ago.
These do not have to operate in sequence?
Both yellow and blue show continuity before the solonoid is activated to lock the lid?
Saw a video where a guy used a jumper from white to blue.
    Your thoughts in that?
Btw, I would never leave one jumped. I would do it for testing purposes.

Lid switch homing on the terminals is on blue and white?
    Solonoid yellow and white?
Hope I have not already asked this.
It can be bench tested like this, right if there is no magnet involved?

I have an older style Whirlpool washer that doesn't have any lights or anything that lights up and I'm trying to figure out if my lid switch is broken and am having trouble finding anything. The washer does everything it's supposed to do except agitate or spin but I don't think the lid is actually locking and don't know how to check if it's broken. When I have the lid open and push the button it just makes a noise and won't agitate but I can open the lid and when I do push it, it will drain the water out. I've already checked the dogs and the whole agitator system and everything looks fine there and I've already checked the motor coupler and it looks fine as well. I don't know what else to do?

Do you have a video checking the signal at the board where these lidlock assemblies connect? I think it is J15. 1,2,3,and4.
I have lost all my tech sheets except one. It is dirty and hard to read.

I thought I saw this somewhere, but what is the red wire?
I know now. The red wire is feeding power to lock assembly and back to machine through the blue and yellow wires. Right?

Lid lock light comes on randomly sometimes days after wash locking the lid. Pushing button does nothing and locked lid and light will only go off after unplugging the machine

I have a whirlpool washer about 10 yrs old. Lid lock is clicking and flashing, does this mean the lid lock switch is bad?

    • @BeardedApplianceRepair
      @BeardedApplianceRepair  3 роки тому

Not necessarily. You have to test it out. Get into diagnostics and do the lid lock test. if it locks and unlocks your lid lock is fine.

You are not clear(you tell the wire colors for the solenoid) but not for the switch. You have to look close to tell where you put the meter leads to check the switch. You should have told the switch wire colors also.

How could you by-pass that switch?

    • @BeardedApplianceRepair
      @BeardedApplianceRepair  5 років тому +2

Carlos Valdez thanks for commenting and I know how annoying that lid lock can be. But I have to say I would not recommend doing so. I could tell you but that would open us up here at Bearded Appliance Repair for a lawsuit. If I tell you how to bypass it and you have kids and they happen to be playing around the washer and fall in during spin or agitate I would be liable for that. The lid lock is a safety measure that should not be messed with. You may think surely that won’t happen but These safety guidelines written by the government that the manufacturers have to follow are written in blood. Remember that. People get hurt if you bypass safety measures. I’m sure you know by now but I will not be able to help you with your request but I truly appreciate your comment and if you have any other technical questions for me I’m here to help.

What have you done to this point? Have you tried diagnostic lid lock test? Any error codes? First instinct is control board but something else could be causing it too. Get the errors codes off of it if you haven’t. That should help us in determining the issue.

Get the tech sheet out. When you lift the top of the washer up. On the front wall of the cabinet next to the basket on the inside. There is a bag with the tech sheet. Pull that out to see what your codes mean. ua-cam.com/video/eGgvv7YB6qk/v-deo.html
This video will show you where the tech sheet is.

I want to know the proper way to test a 4-wire lid lock on a Kenmore washing machine which looks almost identical to the Whirlpool washer in your video.
I am certain that you know what you are doing, but you do not know how to instruct anyone else to be able to do what you can do.
I have watched your video at least half a dozen times. At 2:53, you begin showing how to test the lid lock quite clearly. From 3:15 thereon, your explanation becomes as clear as mud.
