Queen were asked by director Russell Mulcahy to compose the theme song for Highlander movie but they initially declined. After seeing the scripts and 20 minutes snippets from the filming they all went: "WOW! THAT'S US!" 😮 and wanted to do one song each 😅 so here we are: Freddie wrote Princes Of The Universe, Brian came with touching Who Wants To Live Forever and a hard one Gimme The Prize (Kurgans Theme), Roger with A Kind Of Magic and Don't Loose Your Head, sweet John wrote a lovely ballad One Year Of Love... Songs for the movie were reworked in the studio (made longer ...) and became a crucial part of 👑 12th studio album A Kind Of Magic. You really have to react to A Kind Of Magic (Official video) and heavy rock/metal song Gimme The Prize.
@@CoachCastTV🥰 thnx. Btw: Brian uses Washburn RR-V guitar 😮 but just in the video because he was afraid his Red Special 🎸 would damage and the shape of Washburn suits better to the video ...
Your new place looks absolutely beautiful. Great sound! John and Brian mimed with instruments which weren't used on the actual record. That happened often. At the time, they had a huge argument over whether to release this one or 'A Kind of Magic' as the lead single, with each song's respective author arguing on behalf of his creation. 'Mortal Kombat' is genuinely a great film, whereas 'Annihilation' is so bad it's brilliant. Brian's solos can be aggressive, melodic and so direct that they're a fatality, a friendship and a brutality packed into one!
They had arguments which song to release as a single but they decided to release Princes in the US and Magic in the UK because of the Highlander premiere...
They did the whole sound track of the movie. When they were first approached to do it, the boys said no they weren't interested, but after watching the movie trailer they jumped on it. They said “we can write great songs to this.’ And they did.
Hi Coach and Mrs Coach! Have you heard “Play the Game” by Queen at Milton Keynes 1983? Another marvellous live performance by Freddie Mercury. His piano playing is phenomenal as always.
Epic! While perfect for the movie, I think the song describes Queen themselves too, in a way. As far as I'm concerned, I think they still are EMPEROR WIZARDS of the stage and universe, not Princes, Kings etc! To this day, the effect their music still has on the soul and crowds are a pure magic all their own that is eternal! They set the bar at a height that has yet to be met!
Happy 1st Anniversary. Please react to another song from the Highlander film called Gimme The Prize (Kurgan's Theme). Kurgan being the main villain in the film. This is the song where Freddie was pushed to his vocal limits by Brian during recording. Another gem of a song by Queen is Machines (Or Back To Humans) which is prevalent for the world we live in today. Freddie was ahead of his time with this song 40 years ago.
Congratulations on your move and anniversary. Love this video, camers angles are very cool. Queen doing Queen stuff, a soundtrack. Thank you for reviewing this song. Boomer Sooner.
Happy Anniversary!!. 🎉🎆🎇✨ My favorite Queen song. Love the Highlander movie too. Coach, when you get some time, sit down and watch the original movie. Christopher Lambert is always going to be Connor MacLeod to me. Highlander was 1986, Mortal Combat was 1995. Next for Queen, may as well do "Who Wants To Live Forever", the Highlander movie love theme.
Congrats to your Anniversary ... "One Year Of Love" by Queen (Highlander O.S.T., too) sounds to fit to your anniversary, if you haven't heard this song yet! :)
Happy #1 Anniversary Mrs. Coach and Coach! I'm so happy for you and so glad that I have been a part of your Queen journey. The Queen army told you we would stick by you and I'm always happy when I see familiar names in the comment section - that says a whole lot about how we love the two of you and your reactions to "our" Queen. I love John Deacon's song, "One Year of Love" from the Highlander movie so, if you haven't done it already, you might want to give it a reaction. And don't forget "Who Wants to Live Forever" - LIVE in Budapest, 1986 (use the remastered 4K version) if you want to see Freddie singing with every ounce of his being and hear Brian's guitar literally singing his magnificent masterpiece. Wishing you much success in the future! Love ya!
Such a kind comment. Thank you! While we know you are here for Queen, we appreciate all the support everyone has shown. It truly is nice to see many of the same names we saw very early on in our channel's history.
BTW… Brian is “playing” that other guitar in the video because he was afraid of the fireworks damaging his Red Special. This is probably my favorite guitar solo, which is ironic because Freddie wrote it! (This is all a Freddie song, I believe.) But, TRIVIA: Did you know that Freddie “couldn’t really read sheet music” (his exact words; he said that was why he stopped taking piano lessons at the age of 12). Anyway, I’ve always wondered HOW he wrote down the music for his songs then… and with this one, Brian did mention that he had to “translate” it into standard type of sheet music that other guitar players could use, and he said that having to do that, “was interesting”. 😅🫣🤔
Freddie, Brian, Roger and John were really born to be kings, they are Princes of the Universe ... Here they belong, fighting to survive in a world with the darkest powers 💪... they came to be the rulers of us all 👑... Freddie is immortal, he has no rival, no man can be his equal, he is in the future of us all... 💖 He's got our world in his hand, he's here for our love and he made his stand! Congratulations on the 1 year anniversary. Enjoyed your reactions over the past 12 months and today's was no exception. Great song and would love to see you react to Who Wants To Live Forever (from the same movie) and also A Kind of Magic (also from Highlander) but the live version at Wembley 1986.
What an anniversary!!! I'm sure you realise how important and emotional your reactions have been to old school 'old age' Queen fans like me!! I wish you both every success with the channel, your move, your new home and each other! Sending love from the UK.
One of the first Queen songs you reviewed was Somebody to Love , Montreal. The same song in Milton Keynes is very different. I believe that you will enjoy. Glad your move went well.
Broadcasting directly from the new digs in Florida! Here are the pool babies, Coach & Mrs. Coach! Thanks for this reaction. One of my favorite bits of "Highlander" movie trivia is that the evil villian, The Kurgan, is played by Clancy Brown....who is also the voice of Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob SquarePants.
Hi guys. Happy 1 year anniversary of reactions. It has been good watching you both with differing ideas of what you like, and unifying for your reaction channel for our pleasure. This as you have mentioned is from the soundtrack to the Highlander movies and also the theme to the Highlander TV series that followed. So far, you have reacted to this song, Who Wants To Live Forever and One Vision, and although One Vision is my favourite song from the album, this hard rocking song is a very close second. I would love to see a reaction to the official music video to the song. A Kind Of Magic, and perhaps also the live version from Wembley 1986. I hope you do it quite soon. Rich from the UK.
In this video (and in the movie) there is also the great Sean Connery. The beautiful 'Who Wants To Live Forever ' and 'One Year of Love ' are also part of the soundtrack 😎
I heard the songs from the film before seeing it. Could NOT imagine HOW it would work. YET it did!And the placement of the soul scorching Freddie vocals (R&B style ballad) ONE YEAR OF LOVE was not what I expected either! Just Freddie & John...and someone else on sax...oh and strings.
Hey team ‼️ lined up and another queen video with exactly a one year anniversary. Coach’s geniousness ceases to amaze me💥 mrs. Coach must be very proud😎
Hi dear coach! Pls react to gimme the prize. Also from highlander soundtrack. Freddie complained that singing it made his throat sore. I believe most hard rock they ever played. Always a pleasure watching your reactions.

Hi folks! Happy anniversary! Turns out, I *have* been here since the beginning! How is it a year already? "The Highlander" was a good movie-in spite of Sean Connery's buffoonish portrayal of a Spaniard with a Geordie accent. So glad you're back! If you haven't done "The Miracle" video yet, that's the one you want next, just for the atomic cuteness! Love you guys!
Agreed, Mortal Combat is a great great movie and also part of a song from Napalm Death is there, he he))) Love them because of Queen))) If You will be reacting to Napalm Death, check out their song Napalm Death - Silence Is Deafening ( official video clip 2005)! Also check out Queen - Headlong! All the best to You!
I would suggest revisit your first song but from a year later 1982 Milton Keynes ( pronounced Keens) much unused concert, and dig into a think 4 volumes of Deep Cuts, records not always known other than being played at concerts or B sides which didn't really get airtime on the radio
This is one of those songs where I wish they didn’t do their signature tempo changes. Brian’s quitar solo is so good, it’s frustrating it stops so suddenly…
Not my fave Queen album, but there is some good tracks on it. Two to look at I suspect have not been requested. Mad The Swine which was recorded during the first album sessions but not included at the time. See What A Fool I've Been. Recorded during the second album sessions and used as a B side only. Two Christopher Lambert films I love are Fortress Nd Fortress II. They always got poor reviews. Cheesy action, but great fun to watch.
Perhaps for the anniversary-or-so episode you may try to react to the full Gentle Giant's ZDF concert, 50 minutes long. It is (in a rather poor video quality, though it may look fine for the small window inside your video) located here: ua-cam.com/video/RpvbRdSiXUY/v-deo.html One of the greatest modern music concerts ever put on video, indeed! As somebody commented there below the video, "00:00 to 50:25 was particularly outstanding"...
They were filmed in Brussels by the German TV channel ZDF. Typical concert songlist of the band for that time. Lots of variety and outstanding musicianship. The guy at the keyboards (that also occasionally plays cello) is their main composer, Kerry Minnear. He along with some contributions from the bass player (that occasionally plays violin) Ray Shulman was the core creator of all those intricate melodies.
When the star of the movie was asked by Queen to be a part of their video, he told them he always wanted to be a Rock Star and jumped at the chance!
That's fantastic!
One of the rare times Brian played a guitar other than the red special
Probably one of the most underrated Queen songs. That intro 🔥
I know you will enjoy Who Wants to Live Forever, live in Budapest. It’s part of the Highlander movie soundtrack.
The whole Highlander soundtrack is lit
They also did the soundtrack to the Flash Gordon movie. Thank you for this i ❤ it.

Hey you could react to ' Don't lose your head' from the same Album and soundtrack. Great singing by freddie but not Sure if you will like it
A new remake of Highlander is on its way with Henry Cavill, I hope it's as good as the original. This is the theme tune to the "Highlander" TV series.
Very interesting. Hopefully they do a good job.
Have you reacted to the song flash from Flash Gordon by queen ?
We have not.
Try Gimme the prize from the same album...
🙂🙃😙 ❤💛💚
Not my fave Queen album, but there is some good tracks on it.
Two to look at I suspect have not been requested. Mad The Swine which was recorded during the first album sessions but not included at the time. See What A Fool I've Been. Recorded during the second album sessions and used as a B side only.
Two Christopher Lambert films I love are Fortress Nd Fortress II. They always got poor reviews. Cheesy action, but great fun to watch.
He just nailed the part of Raiden in Mortal Kombat. Thanks for the suggestions.
Hello: thank you for all of your reactions. Hey, can you check out Rolling Quartz - Azalea music video? You will like it. Thank you again.
We need to get back to them. Thanks for this suggestion.
Question? Have both of you reacted to any XG music videos yet? If not can you give them a listen? Any XG MV will be fine. Thank you
I think we have 3 on the channel at this time.
Perhaps for the anniversary-or-so episode you may try to react to the full Gentle Giant's ZDF concert, 50 minutes long.
It is (in a rather poor video quality, though it may look fine for the small window inside your video) located here: ua-cam.com/video/RpvbRdSiXUY/v-deo.html
One of the greatest modern music concerts ever put on video, indeed!
I wonder what the hell happened to Lambert. He wasn't very popular but he was very dedicated. His role was meh but he was very dedicated.
Yeah, he's a good actor.
@@CoachCastTV Yeah. We need him bsck considering there is a huge Highlander crossoover going to happen!
😅Freddie Mercury looks like a BADA$$ in this video
We Want KPOP BOYS GROUPS 😭
Go watch highlander
Just watch the original movie and the series. The other movies are OK too god awful
It was released mainly in the US, Canada, New Zealand & Australia (not the UK) and it bombed...
except it then bounced back.
Since then it's become a cult classic 😂
Happy Anniversary!
Thank you!
